Best Serum: TIA’M, It’s Skin, The Ordinary?
Best Serum: TIA’M, It’s Skin, The Ordinary?
Of all the skin dilemmas in the world, I personally bear a grudge against dark spots. For some reason, I always seem to get them. 😭 To combat this troublesome issue, I typically rely on serums that can lighten dark spots and pimple marks. In this review, I’ll be talking about 3 serums I’ve used in the past for this specific purpose! First, we’re going to talk about TIA'M - My Signature C-Source Serum Tiam My Signature C-Source Serum. I actually found this serum while looking for good vitamin C serums online. The reviews seem pretty nice, so I was enticed to try it out myself. This product 6000mg of 100% vitamin C and 20% of L-ascorbic acid and claims to have 40 times more Vitamin C than oranges and 200 times more than mandarins. Wow. All I can say is, I think it did work on my skin, though it oxidized quite fast. One thing you have to know about vitamin C serums is that most of them have to be kept in a dark, cool place to prevent them from turning dark yellow or orange. I kept this product in my fridge, but it still changed color rather quickly. At almost $18 per 30ml bottle, I figured it would be too expensive to changing it just to use it to its full potential. But hey, at least it didn’t make my skin too oily! The second serum I bought to combat my dark spots is It°S SKIN - Power 10 Formula VC Effector It’s Skin actually has a ton of serums, but I chose this one because of Vitamin C’s lightening effects. It contains both vitamin C and green tea extract to lighten skin blemishes and even out the skin tone. At $10 per 30ml bottle, it’s a lot cheaper than Tiam’s. I also found it not sticky and it didn’t make my skin oily at all. Lastly, I didn’t have to refrigerate this one unlike Tiam’s, though I still kept it in my fridge just to be safe. The third and last serum is The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% If you browse through my profile, you’ll definitely see how much I love this product! I think I feature it in almost every other product roundup, haha. True to its name, it contains niacinamide and zinc. I love how effective this product is in making my skin brighter, smoother, and softer. Although it’s also a bit sticky, at least it managed to fade my dark spots and acne marks pretty well. I’m still not at a ‘glass skin’ level, but with this product, I think I’ll get there in time. So, which one is the best serum for me? If you said TO’s Niacinamide serum, then you’re absolutely right! It costs $15 per 30ml bottle, which is a good enough price considering the effects. It’s Skin’s serum would be my second choice, mainly because of its value for money. I probably won’t buy Tiam’s again, unless I’m completely out of choices. What’s your current serum? Feel free to share it with me in the comments below!

Tips & Tricks To Glowing Skin
Tips & Tricks To Glowing Skin
One of my biggest skin issues is dullness. Aside from the complication that is combination skin, I really dislike how lackluster my complexion can be sometimes. It can be really noticeable in photos which is part of the reason why I’m not really fond of taking selfies. What really helped me achieve a nice glow is niacinamide and glycolic acid. I discovered this by searching for skincare guides online and trying out different products. Honestly, I was a bit scared to experiment at first but I was also really excited, especially when I started seeing the effects. Simply put, glycolic acid strips away all my dead skin, revealing the fresh skin underneath. Meanwhile, niacinamide gradually lightens my dark spots. This results in fresh, glowing skin. It’s an amazing combination that really made my skin change for the better. I’m using a total of five products for my ‘glowing skin’ routine: 1. The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution 2. Nacific Phyto Niacin Whitening Essence 3. The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% 4. Mimi White AHA Serum 5. PASSION & BEYOND - Phyto Aqua Cream Take note that I don’t use all of this within the same routine. That’s because not all of them are compatible with each other, specifically niacinamide and AHA. Using them in the same routine can cause flushing and redness. In addition, it will also raise the pH of the AHA which will make it less effective. It’s simply not worth using them together. For instance, I use TO Glycolic Toner, Nacific Phyto Niacin Essence, and TO Niacinamide Serum at night. Meanwhile, in the mornings when I’m not planning to go out, I take one scoop of Phyto Aqua Essence into my palm and add a few drops of AHA serum. When I do have to go out, I don’t use the AHA serum because it can increase my chances of getting sunburned. Try these products and see if they work for you too! 💋

WORTH THE $$$: SAVED MY TEXTURED/SCARRED SKIN
WORTH THE $$$: SAVED MY TEXTURED/SCARRED SKIN
SKINCEUTICALS - Retexturing Activator Face Exfoliator -$82 Key ingredients: - Hyaluronic acid: plumps the skin to restore fine lines etc. - Amino acids: Anti-aging benefits - Glycolic acid: exfoliant; improves texture of the skin - Kombucha: promotes radiant and soft skin What it does: - Resurfaces and replenishes the skin by promoting exfoliation - Helps rid fine lines for a smoother appearance - Increases radiance Why I bought it: - I bought this product initially to help with unwanted, uneven textured skin left behind from acne scarring. Product details: - This serum is clear with no noticeable smell. It is not thick but also not thin. I do not find it sticky after being applied. How I use it: - I use a few drop of this serum in the morning before my heavier creams/serums. I apply it all over my face and even extend it down on to my neck. Results: - As far as scarring goes, this product has made a HUGE difference in the appearance of dark marks. It has evened out my skin texture noticeably but I think with continued use it can do more. I have noticed my skin tone to be more radiant as it claims. As far as fine lines go, I use other products for fine lines so I do not think it’s fair to give a review in that category. (I have been using this product for close to a year now) Would I repurchase/recommend? - If you are looking to fix textured skin left behind from scarring etc. I would say this product is for you. The price is a little on the high end but I have not found a product that can deliver the same results as this one did (if you have one, let me know.) For that reason I will be repurchasing. #CheriePartner

So when I ran out of The Ordinary niacinamide, I looked to something else that was still within a reasonable price range. TO’s niacinamide was out of stock everywhere :( Seeing that I was still on a budget, and I needed a serum that will still (hopefully) lighten my scars, I came across this— Physicians Formula Skin Booster Vitamin Shot. Of course, I chose the brightening one since my main concern at the time was dark spots and scarring. Before purchasing this, I looked up the ingredients, and it contained vitamin C and niacinamide as its active ingredients. I’ve read everyone’s reviews and most of them said that this serum worked for them. I thought, “ok, why not give this a shot?” (pun intended 😏) And so, I bought it. Here’s the unfortunate part—it didn’t really work for me. ☹️ Whenever I buy a new product, I’m always hopeful it’s going to work, but I do prepare for the worst. Thankfully, I didn’t break out from this, but it just didn’t do anything good for me. I didn’t see much change in my dark spots and scarring. However, I think it did a decent job at keeping my skin hydrated. Other than that, nothing. Since I bought this, I did want to try to use it up or just most of it in hopes of seeing noticeable results. Still, nothing happened. This product isn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either, at least for me. I’m very happy that others had better experiences with this, but this was a miss 😕 Maybe the concentration levels of the vitamin C and niacinamide were too low for my skin to function with. Vitamin C for Sensitive Skin?

The Ordinary has a large profile of different Vitamin C products. These include: The Ordinary - Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone The Ordinary - Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% The Ordinary - Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% The Ordinary - Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10% The Ordinary - Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% The Ordinary - Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 15% Solution The Ordinary - 100% L-Ascorbic Acid Powder ———————————— The Ordinary - Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F This product is an oil-soluble derivative of vitamin C that can be used in a higher concentration. It contains Vitamin F which is also known as fatty acid. This includes two fats: linolenic acid (ALA) and linoleic acid (LA). ALA is part of the omega-3 family, whereas LA is part of the omega-6 family. These help maintain skin barrier. Vitamin F (which technically isn’t a vitamin at all) works well with other topical active ingredients and is safe for all skin types. The Ascorbyl solution is a light oil solution. It has a high potency but is very low in terms of stinging. The absorption rate is 1-5 seconds. It costs $17.80 CAD, which is more expensive than some of the other TO vitamin C products. I like this product because it is a light-weight oil but is high potency, and the fact that it doesn’t sting upon application is wonderful. I know some of the other TO vitamin C products can sting quite a bit. This product is great for: ☀️Dullness, uneven texture, uneven skin tone, and fine lines and wrinkles. This product does apply quite oily but once it is absorbed into the skin you forget you applied an oil and are left with a bright complexion. This can be used in the AM/PM. Definitely recommend if you have sensitive skin and want to try a Vitamin C product and not worry about the stinging :) This could also great for all other skin types!
