La Roche-Posay Holy Grail Sunscreen
I’m very picky when it comes to sunscreen because it always seem to make me breakout like crazy. This is my absolute favorite sunscreen, made by La Roche-Posay, that smooths into my skin so beautifully. It’s a lightweight fluid that leaves zero whiteness. It smells fresh and has never upset my skin. It’s my holy grail because I know that whenever I’m wearing this, it truly protects my skin from the sun. I wore this sunscreen during a lacrosse tournament in Florida, and after 8 hours in the sun, my face was the same color that it was at the beginning of the day! This stuff is magic and I’d definitely recommend it. P.S I haven’t tried it out under foundation yet but I have seen some reviews saying it pills under foundation :’(

Let’s talk about Sunscreen habits!
If I am picking one product to take with me to a deserted island, it’s sunscreen. Not just because it’s sunny there, but because it’s SO important to your skin! W H Y S U N S C R E E N ? In a word: Protection. The sun, while gloriously warm, radiates Ultraviolet Rays (UVA and UVB) which our unprotected skin simply can’t fight off on its own for very long. By using sunscreen, we build a blocker for our skin against UV rays. Why do UV rays matter so much? Sun damage: those dark spots, saggy or leathery skin, and wrinkles. Aside from those signs of photo-aging, there is also the risk of skin cancer that arises from frequent unprotected exposure to the sun. W H A T K I N D S H O U L D Y O U U S E ? There are two main kinds of sunscreens: Mineral (Or Physical blockers) and Synthetic (Chemical blockers). Both are effective for protecting your skin, they only differ in HOW they protect you. Mineral sunscreen (sometimes also deceptively sold as Organic sunscreen) works as a shield that doesn’t allow UV rays to penetrate the skin, but instead reflects them. While Synthetic sunscreen (sometimes referred to as inorganic or chemical) work by absorbing the UV rays and converting them into heat - which your skin then releases. Not sure which type you’re using? It’s easy to tell: mineral sunscreens contain one of two main active ingredients: zinc oxide and titanium oxide. If yours has something other than one of those, you’re holding a synthetic/chemical one. W H O S H O U L D U S E S U N S C R E E N ? Everyone! Doesn’t matter how fair or dark you are, you should protect your beautiful, but fragile, skin at all times. W H E N D O Y O U U S E I T ? Ideally, everyday, in all seasons. We really only associate sunscreen with warm weather, but UV rays can penetrate your skin 365 days a year. Also, those rays penetrate windows. So, don’t be fooled that you’re escaping them by being inside. TL; DR - Sun damage is real and sometimes you can’t even feel it happening. Aside from the scary stuff (cancer), Photo-aging is an unfortunate, but preventable, side effect of sun damage. Regardless of how many serums, creams or masks you use, sun damage can catch up to you. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter which type of sunscreen you use (based on active ingredients), as long as you are using it appropriately. Pick one you love to use and stick with it. Don’t get caught up in the flashy marketing, just make sure you’re picking one that suits your needs. Read up on ones that are best for your skin type: if you sweat a lot, or sensitive, or even acne-prone! I carry a powder one with me at all times for re-application. Here’s how to take care of oily acne-prone skin☺
Most of us acne patients suffer from oily skin. Excess sebum produced by our skin may clog pores which eventually leads to acne. In this post, I’d like to share my top tricks in controlling my oily acne-prone skin and hopefully be able to help even at least one of you 🙈☺️ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐎𝐬: 1. 𝐃𝐎 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐰𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐚𝐲. This has always worked for me. Sometime before, I tried not washing my face in the AM and it just made me so much oilier during the day resulting in more breakouts. Importantly, remember to wash your face every after workout too. Sweat combined with sebum is a perfect recipe for acne and skin irritation. 𝟐. 𝐃𝐎 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐚 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡. Although salicylic acid cleanser helped tremendously in my teenage years, it isn’t necessarily beneficial for me now that my skin is more dehydrated and my skin barrier compromised. Salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide cleansers may still help on days when you’re feeling extra oily but resist using it daily. Use a gentle foaming face wash from Vanicream, Hada Labo, Cerave. 𝟑. 𝐃𝐎 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲. You can have oily skin and dehydrated skin at the same time. Because your face is not hydrated enough, your glands may overcompensate for the lack of moisture by producing more oils. Do not ever skip this step! Your best option is to use an oil-free, non-comedogenic moisturizer like Paula’s Choice Clear Oil-Free Moisturizer, Neutrogena oil-free and hydroboost gel cream, and if you have rosacea too, use procure rosacare gel. 𝟒. 𝐃𝐎 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. SPF 30+ or up should always be worn especially for oily skin. Unprotected sun exposure can lead to more acne flare-ups. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide mineral sunscreens are your top options. Zinc doesn’t only protect skin but also helps calm irritated skin. My favorites are Elta MD physical and Purito Water, Clinique Broad Spectrum, .. If you like chemical sunscreen better, I highly recommend Eucerin and Sun BUm. 𝟓. 𝐃𝐎 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬. Keratolytic ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid that are available over-the-counter can be your best friends when used properly. It is important to note that when using an active, stick to a minimal skincare routine to reap the best results and use of one acne treatment at a time is a must, especially if you’re just starting out. If you have moderate to severe acne, I would go for Differin Adapalene gel or a retinoid such as Retin-A and Atralin. Retinoids may not only get rid of your acne but also heal and renew your skin in the deeper layers. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓𝐬: 𝟏. 𝐃𝐎𝐍'𝐓 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫-𝐞𝐱𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞. Over-exfoliating is probably something we’re all once obsessed with. Unfortunately, this habit can only lead us to a damaged skin barrier thus, compromising our skin’s own ability to heal itself. It’s best to limit the use of exfoliating ingredients twice a week when starting or one exfoliating acid/active at a time once a day after your skin has adjusted. 𝟐. 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞. I say it all the time, fragrance in skincare is BAD and does nothing good for you. The use of fragrance in cosmeceutical products is unregulated and companies are not required to disclose all components used in their products. The formulation may have a lot of unknown toxic chemicals that can be harmful to you. Without knowing and often initially not externally evident, fragrance can irritate your skin deep down, cause toxic hormonal effects, and may even cause cancer. Fragrance is a NO-NO for everyone and most especially for acne-prone people or those with other skin diseases. I have suffered the consequences of my bad choices myself. Do yourself a favor and ditch your fragrance-containing products too. 𝟑. 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐡𝐨𝐥-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬. Certain types of alcohol such as ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, and alcohol denat. are extremely drying and irritating especially to acne-prone skin. 𝟒. 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐮𝐩. Always make sure you wash away all makeup and accumulated dirt on the face before you sleep. 𝟓. 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐬. Change your pillowcases frequently. I always make sure I sleep on new ones every week. 𝟔. 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞. Picking at your acne can only add dirt and germs to your skin and may cause more issues. Frequently wash your hands if you’re an absent-minded face rubber or cover the pimples with acne patches. Top 5 sunscreen - especially for acne-prone skin
Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 I will be the first to admit that I was not serious about sun protection in my youth, but now I’m on the sunscreen train and never coming off. One of the reasons why I never wanted to wear face sunscreen was because it would leave me with inevitable breakouts. It took me a long time to find formulas that work with my skin and Supergoop’s Unseen Sunscreen is now my go-to. 💛💛💛 What I really love about it is that it’s oil-free and doubles as a makeup primer. It literally glides across the skin with its velvety formula and leaves it prepped for makeup, so you don’t have to worry about layering anything on top of it and potentially overwhelming your pores. (I do, however, add a little bit of a glowing on top of it to my high points for a dewier glow but Unseen Sunscreen has the rest of your skin covered!) 💛💛💛 The only thing I cannot vouch for is it’s shine controlling properties. My skin is oily enough to begin with and if it’s a stressful or sweaty day, there’s nothing that can stop my shine (this low-key sounds inspirational?? Lol) 💛💛💛 I would definitely recommend to a friend, especially if they have acne-prone skin. It's a little expensive ($32) compared to other sunscreens, but it really works and a little goes a loooong way.

A great non-irritating SPF
Drunk Elephant umbra sheer is a physical sunscreen that delivers powerful broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection and aids in the prevention of free radical and oxidative damage. It’s the only SPF that doesn’t irritate my skin and doesn’t break me out. A lot of the other SPF products I tried either burned upon application or caused acne after 4 days of use. Umbra Sheer is different because it actually heals my acne. As someone who is acne prone, I found this sunscreen to be my little trusty because any time I am struggling with acne or any skin concerns, I know this will be my comfort product that will give me SPF protection while also soothing my skin. I have used this SPF for two years every day and I honestly can’t use anything else because this is so good. It heals and soothers my skin any time it needs some tender loving care. This is an amazing option for everyone and especially those who are sensitive and acne-prone. It addresses target concerns, such as Fine Lines and Wrinkles, Dark Spots, and Dullness and Uneven Texture. It’s formulated for normal, dry, combination, and oily skin. It has a lightweight cream texture that leaves a shiny residue on the skin. I definitely recommend this to everyone if you are looking for a good non-irritating daily wear SPF. I put 4 stars because it’s very greasy and feels somewhat heavy on the skin (which is normal for a mineral SPF). It’s tricky to use on the days when I want to wear a full glam makeup look, as it makes my foundation look shiny and greasy. So, if you want to look matte, this SPF will not do that. It’s great for those who don’t wear a full face of makeup every day because just makes foundation look too shiny. If you wear this without foundation it just leaves you with a glow, so that’s why it’s perfect for everyday if you don’t wear makeup every day. It retails for $34 which is a little pricey for an SPF product, but I trust Drunk Elephant formulations and truly found this to be the best SPF ever. To me, the price point is worth it for what you get!DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30

My skincare products and routine : any thoughts?
Hi loves, so even though I already have a pretty good routine for my skin, I feel like I still have so much to learn and therefore maybe other adjustments to do with my habits to really have a good and effective routine for my skin! Here’s what I usually do : (this is for someone who has combination skin; the t-zone gets oily, other parts tend to be dry and sometimes even sensitive; i never had major acne too so i wouldn’t label myself as “acne-prone skin” type of gal🤷🏻♂️) 1) CLEANSE : I wash my face with the acne wash by Benzagel Benzagel - Acne Wash ** If I run out of product : I use another cleanser from Alya alya skin. - Foaming Micellar Cleanser *** After one of the products listed here, I use the cleansing butter from Wishful to remove excess oils/makeup before anything else! HUDA BEAUTY - Clean Genie Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm 2) EXFOLIATE/SCRUB : I exfoliate my skin (1-2 times a week) with Wishful products HUDA BEAUTY - Yo Glow Facial Enzyme Scrub 3) Tone : I’m still pretty new to the “skincare” world and I never toned my skin up until today so feel free to suggest/recommend me products you tried and/or heard of that were good, that’d be great 👼🏻💓 4) Essence : I use to put some of the serums of L’Occitane en Provence to replace the essence I still don’t have! Then again, feel free to suggest me products you think would work!! Thanks 💓 5) Serum : I ran out of the product itself but usually I was using (like mentioned before) L’Occitane en Provence’s serum and it really felt nice on my skin! L'OCCITANE - Peony Perfecting Essence 5.1) Serum #2 : I can also switch with L'OCCITANE - Immortelle Overnight Reset Oil-in-Serum 6) Moisturize : I’m using Wishful’s product called HUDA BEAUTY - Honey Balm Jelly Moisturizer and it really feels nice on my skin! 7) Sunscreen : Right after moisturizing my skin, it’s recommended to directly apply sunscreen on top of the moisturizer of Wishful (or HUDA BEAUTY) LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios XL Lotion SPF 60 8) Oil : Even though I had the sample version of the actual thing, I’m currently working with L’Occitane en Provence’s youth oil, which leaves my skin shiny and cute 🥰 L'OCCITANE - Immortelle Divine Youth Oil 9) Eye cream (or gel): Apparently it’d be nice for me to use some eye cream (based on the analysis that Cherie provides me) but I’m not currently using and not so sure of which products I should/shouldn’t be using! Then again, if you know any good stuff that’d work perfectly with my type of skin, let me know in the comments!! That’s all for me, I know I don’t have the perfect skincare routine but I’m ready to consider any constructive feedback on the thing(s) I could try/do/change to improve it! Thanks, have a good one 💓
