My Acne Journey (Long Story)
Hi there! My name is Chelle, and like I’m sure many of you have dealt with, I have been in a battle with acne since I was a teenager. It’s been the bane of my existence and a constant thwart to my self-confidence. About 4 years ago, I started using Curology - Curology formula which, at first, worked absolute wonders! They prescribed to me a formula with azelaic acid, and for about 3 years, I felt like I had conquered and controlled my acne issues. Of course, I still had the scars and enlarged pores, but no new breakouts or cysts. I was incredibly satisfied and for once in my life, I had gained some the self-confidence that I never had growing up. I even enjoyed not having to wear as much makeup. However, a couple months before my wedding last year, I started noticing some acne beginning to consistently form in my chin area. I at first attributed to pre-wedding stress (which honestly didn’t make much sense because I actually didn’t do all my wedding planning). But even after the wedding, the breakouts continued to worsen. I reached out to Curology and they switched my prescription to the more aggressive tretinoin. It helped to control it somewhat, but unlike before, new breakouts would surface every week. So with that being said, I’m going back to square one with my acne journey. I’ll using Cherie as a journal to document my successes and failures as I try to, again, get the zits under control. I happily welcome recommendations and feedback! I am by no means a skin or beauty expert, but my hope is that my journey will somewhat encourage another individual that they’re not alone in this battle! Here are the list of products that I am currently using. I’ll do reviews of them as I go! Acne Control Facial Moisturizer
hello all! 💓 so i’m not crazy about Kiehls because they have fragrance in a lot of their products and I generally stay away from that but I LOVE this moisturizer! the downsides are few- just that its $48 which is too expensive for most people and the percentage of salicylic acid is pretty high for daily use all over your face (1.5%). if you have dry skin, I think I’d steer clear 👀 i’ve been using this on and off for at least half a year and every time I use it, my acne seems to become much less inflamed very quickly! the texture is a lightweight cream but feels super hydrating nonetheless 🌟 I mentioned earlier there are usually fragrances in Kiehl’s products but this one doesn’t have any! 🎉 this product was mainly formulated to clear and prevent acne and I think it does the job well! I’d highly recommend this to someone whose skin doesn’t dry up easily or has hydrating serums! 🥰 Kiehl's - Breakout Control Acne Treatment Facial Lotion

Check out- Matte moisturizer for Oily/ Acne skin
Check out this Matte moisturizer for Oily/ Acne prone skin 😍 Swipe left for result and texture close up!! 🥰 This shot is taken by me! I received this Matte balancing moisturizer from @grownalchemist in my Boxycharm box last month and I tried it!! GROWN ALCHEMIST - Matte-Balancing Moisturizer Spoiler Alert - It's Amazing!!! As the name suggests it truly goes on matte on skin while making it super hydrated and moisturized at the same time! And yes, it doesn’t leave a white cast at all! Goes on clear but matte ❤️ ✨What is it?? - A lightweight moisturizer that hydrates facial skin while balancing the skin’s oil levels, leaving skin with a matte finish and increased clarity. ✨ Ingredients call out: 🌾Açaí berries - Rich in fatty acids 🌾Omega’s 3, 6, & 9, phytosterols and Vitamin C - Rich antioxidant and anti-bacterial properties. 🌾 Poylphenols from sesame seed - Reduce the appearance of excess sebum reducing shine and restoring balance. 🌾 Tomato and Aloe vera - Abundantly rich in lycopene and polysaccharides give the skin a radiant and smooth appearance while also helping repair the appearance of skin damaged by uv induced oxidative stress. 🌾 Rice bran - Tocopherol antioxidant properties assist improving the skin appearance by reducing signs of aging and visibly removing blemishes. ✨ My experience: 🌾 It comes out as a thick, milky serum or lightweight moisturizer 🌾 Goes on skin, instantly hydrating while the occlusive Ingredients start to create a white color and emollient finish and after rubbing for few seconds it settles into completely matte, soft finish 🌾 Keeps skin moisturized for upto 12 hours, my skin is getting dry these days with this it stayed hydrated and smooth the entire day 🌾 Helps a little bit with active breakouts due to Rice bran's Tocopherol Anti-oxidant properties 🌾 Reduces redness and Check this Matte moisturizer for Oily/ Acne prone skin 😍 🌾 Works perfectly find under makeup 🌾 My T - zone area produces less oil when I apply this The only con or downside of this product is it's hefty price. It's 69$ for 2 fl.oz which is a little on pricey side for me but the way it performs on skin is what makes it worth that price! I haven't found any moisturizer that goes on completely matte for my oily, acne prone skin. Generally I prefer matte finishes as they tend not to highlight pimples and raised bumps or scars. This works perfect for that. Do I think it's worth 69$? Yes because of the finish and Ingredients. Would you like to try this??

GURWM: Remove Makeup, No Acne Next Day✨
I love a full face, taking it off is always a completely different story. This is my current routine for no breakouts the following day! I always start with: GARNIER - SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water with Rose Water I like to get as much eye makeup as possible off with this gentler cleansing water. It’s very light and gets the job done. I also get any lipstick or gloss I had on as well. Next: THE FACE SHOP - Rice Water Bright, Light Cleansing Oil This is my oil cleansing step. I love this oil and have done a review on it so I won’t go into too much detail. Being able to take to pumps and get the heavy duty makeup off my face is so satisfying. I then rinse my face off then use my GARNIER - SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water with Rose Water again... then rinse that off. Next : PACIfICA - Rose Kombucha Flower Powered Face Wash I love how this leaves my face. It so gentle and calming and gets any heavy makeup I leave on as well. I then follow again with my GARNIER - SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water with Rose Water Next: CeraVe - Renewing SA Cleanser For Normal Skin Even though my skin is combo I find this to be very beneficial for my skin. I only use this twice a week in a similar routine to this. Since it’s a wash off treatment it’s not as strong as a a mask or serum. Next: PAULA'S CHOICE - Enriched Calming Toner I use this toner every night. It’s literally amazing on my skin. It leaves my dryer cheeks very hydrated and nourished. It also gets any oils and left over dirt (as shown). Next: The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution This is my 2/3 night to use this toner for the week. It can be drying but I find using it in this routine is very beneficial. It exfoliates the top layer of my skin leaving it refreshed and ready for the next step. Next: The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Making sure this sits in my pores is very important. Not only controlling oil but used with the Glycolic Acid it helps my acne tremendously. I just pat this in my skin and rubbing a little in the area I feel my pores are huge. (The dropper does not touch my skin) SKINCEUTICALS - A.G.E. Eye Complex for Dark Circles This is my HG fr dark circle treatment. I have seen amazing results with this cream. Yet, since I use the Farmacy Cherry Eye Cream during the day I only use this at night. Last: nooni - Applebutter Lip Mask I LOVE this lip mask. I use it sometimes twice a day. It leaves my lips so soft and smooth. It doesn’t have a taste or much of a smell (which is extremely important to me) I use disinfecting wipes to clean any tool I use in another product after every use!

If y’all have never tried anything from the face shop, I highly recommend trying their chia seed line. Not only has their chia seed like helped me keep my skin clear, I always go back to this moisturizer because this will forever bring my skin back to the way it should be! ✨ If you saw my Clinique moisturizer review, you’ll know I started breaking out from using that, it made me miserable waking up everyday with a new pimple so immedietly I knew I had to go back and grab this! 💁🏽♀️ Which is what I did and NO JOKE, the next day, I didn’t wake up with a new pimple and today, I don’t have any on my skin! Research more on chia seed skincare and you’ll read about how great it is for those with acne prone, sensitive oily skin! If you have acne in this area, this might be why
So for the past month my skin has really been going thru it. I’ve been having acne and closed comedones all along my cheek, chin, and jaw, to the point where my skin almost feels like sand paper. Truthfully, I don’t let it affect me too much. I know I’m a human being and acne is completely normal. So there’s no need to take it out on my self confidence or self worth that I worked so hard on! That being said it’s still my body talking to me, and it’s still something to treat! If you sprained your ankle and knee accidents happen and everything will be ok, you’d still treat it! So even though I know I’m still ok and healthy and my skin is going thru a phase, I can’t ignore that it needs treatment. I have a pretty great skincare routine. YTTP kale cleanser, chemical exfoliant 1-2x a week, top tier moisturizers and serums and evening curology! But for the past month NONE of them have worked on me! So I finally went to a dermatologist because this clearly is way above my knowledge as a self-proclaimed skincare junkie. I did a televise and paid my insurance co-pay if $20, and after sending my derm photos of my skincare and a ton of other info on my the verdict was..... Hormonal acne caused by too much testosterone production! My doctor let me know that the placement of my acne, along the cheek, jaw, and chin, is 100% hormonal and that acne that closed comodones and acne he was seeing on my face is due to over production of sebum because of my body overproducing testosterone. He also said that this is super common among women over 25! I felt relieved to finally pinpoint what exactly was causing my acne (because I didn’t change anything in my diet or routine and just months before my skin was clear) and I was prescribed epiduo forte Spironolactane, a pill that blocks testosterone He also advised me to chuck my skincare routine and just use CeraVe - Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser as a wash and CeraVe - PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion along with the AM version as well. I am so happy I went to a derm because I would’ve been trying product after product feeling hopeless! I should receive my prescription later this weekend and I also have a 6-week check in coming up, so I will let you guys know how it goes :) If you have any q’s about seeing a dermatologist IRL or online, drop them below and I’ll do my best to answer them.
