My Cuticle Care Picks + Tips
My Cuticle Care Picks + Tips
Admittedly I haven’t taken care of my cuticles much over the last few years. They weren’t “bad” but I know I should’ve given them some TLC more often. Cuticle care is vital to overall nail health. The cuticle treatment I was previously using is from DECO MIAMI - Lemon Blossom Cuticle Oil It has a strong lemon scent and feels so greasy on my fingers. I can’t pick up my phone or type on my computer without leaving grease spots behind - yuck! I didn’t use it consistently enough to know if it worked because I didn’t like the effects, so I can’t speak to effectiveness. It’s easy to apply but tbh I don’t recommend it. I’m going to de-clutter it. $12 on brand’s website. I recently did a Cherie post about 2 Nails Inc. products that saved my nails. One of them is the .INC. - Superfood Nail and Cuticle Repair Oil I like this oil because it sinks in quickly & doesn’t leave my hands feeling greasy/like I can’t touch anything for a while. I consistently use this 5+ days per week and it really has helped my nails and cuticles to look & feel stronger. The dropper makes it easy to control the product. I’ve noticed that I get hangnails less frequently. Hangnails are the result of torn skin near your cuticles. They can be painful, and if picked at, can lead to infection. Tip: when I do get a hangnail, I carefully clip it as close to its base with a nail clipper. I much prefer the Nails Inc oil to the Deco Miami! I included a before & after of applying this product. See how my fingers don’t look greasy? $15 on brand’s website. Tip: Other considerations to keep in mind for cuticle care are using gentle hand soaps & hand lotion. If your hands are constantly dry, your cuticles are likely dry, too. When your cuticles are dry they are prone to tearing/damage. Cuticles serve as the barrier between your skin, nails, and new nail growth. When cuticles are damaged, your nails are more susceptible to damage. In that same vain, try to avoid cutting your cuticles so as not to cause damage. Since we’re in the midst of a pandemic, not using hand sanitizer isn’t really an option, so opt for ones with moisturizing formulas to reduce the drying effects. At work we have some from Hempz, which I like, but don’t personally own (hence no photo). Moisturize your hands whenever you can! I sometimes use a drop or two of cocokind - Watermelon Hemp Oil in some unscented lotion to give an extra boost to my hands (oil was PR from brand). Hemp oil is very nourishing without being too heavy. $14 on brand’s website. All brands mentioned are cruelty-free and have vegan options. Nails Inc & Deco Miami are non-toxic nail brands with mid-range prices ($10-15/polish/treatment. The Cocokind oil is great, but you can also use any nourishing oil you have at home, like marula or jojoba, to add into hand lotion for an extra boost! #CheriePartner
