My favorite ingredient for sun protection
Y’allllllllllllll! I want to hear about all of your favorite sunscreens in the comments! Telll meee about them and why you love them! Okay so. My skin’s absolute favorite SPFs all include zinc oxide. Zinc oxide is generally considered the safest and most effective ACTIVE sunscreen ingredient. This is so important to me because I have sensitive, acne prone skin and I cannot risk damaging or irritating it with sunscreen (which is supposed to protect your skin anyway AM I RIGHT??) so using this non-irritating ingredient is a must for me. Enter: the sunscreen on my freaking dreams—PAULA'S CHOICE - Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 . This is a great formula for normal/oily combination skin but even with my combo normal/dry/oily skin I love it. I just have to use a facial oil under it. I found out about this product and mineral sunscreens in general from Instagram reviews surrounding acne prone skin. Mineral sunscreens are supposed to be better and less irritating overall for sensitive skin, since they reflect UVA and UVB rays from your skin rather than absorbing them. This matches my personal experiences too! I’m not a scientist though so don’t quote me on that LOL. I strictly only used this sunscreen (I didn’t use any other SPFs) for a 2 week period and my acne and redness faded SO FAST!! I highly recommend this formula especially for oilier skin types. It layers pretty well throughout the day also! I have to rate it 5/5 stars.

Which Paula’s Choice SPF is right for you?
NOTE 1: this does not include every single SPF from Paula’s Choice. This is simply the SPFs that I own from them. NOTE 2: By posting this, I do not condone the past racist actions by Paula’s Choice and their lack of shades for medium and dark skin tones. My skin type is sensitive combination dry and acne prone. Review: Hello!! I thought today I would take you through the different textures and my thoughts on these Paula’s Choice Sunscreens. I own 3 different formulas at the moment, and I like them all but for different reasons. 1. Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 (mineral formula): PAULA'S CHOICE - Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 Target: combination, normal/oily skin. Purpose: Sun Protection & anti-aging. Texture: thick, somewhat mattifies the skin, leaves a light tint to the skin (not for medium or dark skin tones). Reapplies very nicely. No sunscreen scent. Includes the antioxidant resveratrol (anti aging and skin healing). I have dry skin, but I combat this formula’s matte effect by applying this after I apply a facial oil in my AM routine. It’s $33 for 2oz. I’d recommend this if you have oily skin for daily use. My rating is 4/5 because I wish they offered this for medium and dark skin tones. 2. Youth-Extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50 (chemical formula)PAULA'S CHOICE - Youth-Extending Daily Hydrating Fluid Target: normal, combination skin. Purpose: sun protection + anti-aging. Texture: incredibly lightweight/watery formula, no tint or white cast. Dewier finish. Reapplies without any issues. Light sunscreen scent. Includes “soothing plant extracts.” I have to use this after a pretty basic routine—chemical sunscreens often irritate my skin so that means no other actives are allowed in my AM routine. It’s $33 for 2oz. I’d recommend this for all skin types, except super sensitive. My rating is 4/5 because the chemical formula forces me to have a basic AM routine. 3. Ultra-Light Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 30+ (chemical formula): PAULA'S CHOICE - Ultra-Light Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 30+ Target: blemish-prone skin. Purpose: sun protection + minimize pores. Texture: super lightweight (similar to the youth-extending), no tint or white cast left behind. Dewier finish. Reapplies magically! More heavy sunscreen scent. It’s a basic formula so it doesn’t irritate or cause breakouts for sensitive skin. This allows me to use my usual AM routine, no burning even though it’s a chemical formula. It’s $33 for 2oz. I’d recommend this for all skin types, but especially acne-prone and/or sensitive! My rating is 4/5 because of the heavy sunscreen scent! Long story short: I really like these formulas but all for different reasons. Have you tried any of these? What are your thoughts? #CheriePartner

Morning routine: Combo skin, hyperpigmentation
This is my morning routine generally. I have combo normal to oily skin, prone to breakouts and have a lot of post acne scarring that I am trying to improve. CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser I originally used the CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin and whilst I do like it, I find that I like the experience of the hydrating one more. I have been using it for about 2 weeks. If I find that the hydrating version breaks me out (which would be my biggest concern) I will likely switch between the 2 in my morning routine. The Ordinary - Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2% I have been searching for the perfect Vitamin C product for me to use for ages, and without a doubt it is this one! it does have a relatively oily finish, which can be tricky for daytime so make sure not to use too much. However this would make it hard to use if you have especially oily skin. The addition of Alpha Arbutin is awesome and good to see in The Ordinary products, since they can at times have basic formulations. I'm hoping to see continued improvement in my hyperpigmentation and scarring in regards to this product. PAULA'S CHOICE - Invisible Finish Moisture Gel I have loved this for the 3 months I have been using it! Throughout the day I have so much concern that my skin will be too oily, especially after using the 2 previous products. This product is so awesome for my combination skin, still so hydrating and it leaves you with a dewy yet matte feeling finish. I was concerned a gel moisturiser would leave me feeling dry, but it doesn't and gives me the feeling of hydration that I want out of my daytime moisturiser. PAULA'S CHOICE - Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 I love this SPF! Similarly to my moisturiser, I wanted a product that wouldn't leave me greasy and would hopefully help reduce oiliness throughout the day, and this is perfect for that. It has a slight tint which helps with white cast concerns, and leaves you feeling matte to the touch but doesn't draw out any hydration. The product also plays really well under makeup that I haven't concerned myself with trying to fit a primer in somewhere whilst using this product. Also how does one prime without compromising your suncreen anyway? Please comment how you would do that, at which stage. After moisturiser but before SPF? I have no idea. Great ingredient list as well, full of antioxidants. This is usually my morning routine, it doesn't vary too much at all. I reserve night time for my retinol and exfoliation, as well as any supplementary serums. Thanks for reading 😘

Sunscreen Is Always and Forever
Sunscreen is an essential part of any skincare routine. It is the number one proven preventative treatment for anti-aging. The sun’s rays, most specifically UVA and UVB, are damaging to our skin. They cause free radical damage, something that plays a role in collagen breakdown and inflammation; two things that are super important to pay attention to when talking about anti-aging. Plus, those rays exist in all weather, rain or shine, so sunscreen is a must! Sunscreen is also one of the first steps in treating hyperpigmentation! The sun activates our melanin production, like a tan. This over-production is exaggerated whenever we experience trauma to the skin, like a cut or a blemish. With those of us who have more melanin, we are more likely to produce stronger hyperpigmentation. With the use of sunscreen, we can help the fading time of hyperpigmentation to speed up! As a sunscreen lover myself, I have a few favorites, the one that will always have my heart year-round are: Krave - The Beet Shieldis a chemical sunscreen with SPF 50. Packed with a lot of soothing ingredients! Sits amazingly under makeup too! PAULA'S CHOICE - Youth-Extending Daily Hydrating Fluidis a chemical sunscreen with SPF 50. Packed with tons of hydrating ingredients and antioxidants. This can replace your moisturizer in warmer months! Something I only like reaching for when it’s warmer is the PAULA'S CHOICE - Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30It is tinted and leaves a silky matte finish on the skin. Some that I have my eyes on to try next include Black Girl Sunscreen. It has been deemed better for drier skin types year-round or if you lean oily, it is great for the colder weather. It is known for its beautiful glowy finish! Another one I have my eyes on that has been getting incredible reviews, that can be used year-round, is the Soothe Bamboo Sun Essence by Keep Cool. Regardless of your choice, if it works for you, that’s the sunscreen that matters!

Do you have maskne? Read this...
Hey friends! I want to start off my post by saying I have sensitive acne-prone skin, combination dry with rosacea. I work in a people-facing job about 25 hours a week, wear a mask for 8-9 hours on the days that I work. MASKNE IS REAL! I have some helpful tips as well as some products that have really been helping my skin. One of the main factors contributing to maskne is having a mask pressed against your skin for hours and hours at a time, trapping your dead skin as well as any bacteria that is exiting your nose or mouth onto your face. There’s nothing you can do to stop this if you have to wear a mask all day like me... Let’s get into my maskne tips! TIP 1: Never re-use a used mask. This should be obvious. If you are using a disposable mask, throw it away after you’re done using it. If you are using a cloth or reusable mask, it must be cleaned after each use. By re-using used masks you are reintroducing bacteria that is already on the mask as well as any makeup, sunscreen, dirt, and oils left over on the mask from the previous use. AND NO, just spraying it with disinfectant won’t do it...run it through the washing machine or hand wash them! TIP 2: Always wear sunscreen under your mask. This is one of my KEY tips. You might be thinking—my face is covered, why do I need to wear a sunscreen? Well, sunscreen provides a barrier between your skin and anything around it, especially mineral sunscreens, which means it could help stop maskne from forming as easily. My favorite sunscreen to use under my mask is PAULA'S CHOICE - Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 —it truly creates that perfect barrier, plus it has great antioxidants in it so you get skin benefits as well. I love this SPF a lot, but it does leave a beige white cast on darker skin tones, so I’m rating it 4/5. It’s available at Nordstrom for $32. TIP 3: Exfoliate! Washing your face at the end of the day is obvious—however, just cleansing your face won’t clear out your clogged pores or remove all of your dead skin. I recommend using a gentle toner, like THE inkey LIST - Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA) Gentle Exfoliating Toner every other night to un-clog your pores and help remove dead skin. This will help prevent acne from forming! The PHA Toner is quite inexpensive, at $9, and is available at Sephora, and has no fragrance! I’m rating it 4/5 since it’s a very basic formula without any additional benefits. TIP 4: Alleviate irritation. Irritation in the skin can cause acne—yep, when your skin is red and/or hot it means it’s in attack mode, and acne can form. What irritates the skin then? Well, a mask rubbing against it for 9 hours can do the trick... so what do we do? Grab some Azelaic Acid! PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster this formula is not only anti-inflammatory, it’s also antibacterial. DOUBLE-YAY! I mix it into my moisturizer in the AM. $36 at Nordstrom. #CheriePartner
