How to Bring Back Damaged Curls
How to Bring Back Damaged Curls
The photo on the left was from September 2018. My hair was extremely damaged from straightening almost every day and also from chemical damage due to constant changes to my hair color. The curls on the left were my BEST curls, I remember how much I loved my hair that day! Fast forward to the picture on the right - my current curls. When I first started I would describe my curls as Type 2b/2c They have transformed to Type 2c/3a as I worked toward healthy hair. Here are a few tips to repair damage: 1. Use Deep Conditioning Treatments - my hair was dry and brittle from all the damage. I incorporated deep conditioning treatments like MIZANI - True Textures Moroccan Clay Steam Hair Maskinto my hair routine, using it weekly in the beginning to bring some moisture back to my curls. 2. A system such as OLAPLEX - Bond Repair Trial Kitwill help repair and strengthen damaged hair while you’re growing it out. This is extremely helpful to try and maintain the hair you have. 3. Understand that time is the one thing that will really help your transformation from damaged to healthy hair! It takes a lot of patience but it is well worth it. 4. Protect your hair at night to prevent breakage. I highly recommend investing in a silk pillow case. My favorite is from LILYSILK - 19 Momme Print Silk Pillowcase with Hidden Zipper. Cotton pillow cases can snag your hair, which can cause breakage and also knots...which can cause breakage when you try and detangle the next morning. I also sleep with my curls in a braid, covered by a bonnet, or up in a pineapple using a silk scarf. Lots of choices! 5. Reducing heat damage is vital. Taking care of your curls in the beginning is hard work, and we don’t want to negate that effort by continuing to cause heat damage! Personally I stopped using flat irons and curling irons on my hair entirely the first 6-8 months. I straighten my hair now maybe once a year, the only heat that I use is a diffuser on low. Good luck on your journey to healthier hair! Let me know if you have any questions in the comments #cheriepartner

5 Tips to Start Your Natural Curl Journey
5 Tips to Start Your Natural Curl Journey
I started my natural curl journey in February of 2019 and although it takes lots of research and experimenting, it is well worth it! My top 5 tips (where to start) to get your natural curls back are: 1. Cut out heat styling If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent most of your adult life trying to straighten your curls into submission. The first tip to getting your curls back is to stop using a flat iron/curling irons on your hair. I know it’s tempting to straighten your hair on a “bad curl day”, but the sooner you cut out heat styling the sooner your curls will bounce back. 2. Use Moisturing Shampoo/Conditioner It is going to take work and LOTS of patience to nurse your hair back to life. I highly recommend OLAPLEX - No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo OLAPLEX - No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner MIZANI - True Textures Moisture Replenish Shampoo MIZANI - True Textures Cream Cleansing Conditioner Bounce Curl - Enzyme Gentle Clarifying Shampoo Bounce Curl - Super Smooth Cream Conditioner The mentioned products are ones I have tried and adore - they will bring life back to your hair. 3. Add Deep Conditioning to Your Routine At the beginning of my curl journey I deep conditioned in the shower once weekly. Depending on the current health of your hair, using heat while deep conditioning may help even more. You may need to deep condition more or less often, let your hair tell you. Some of my favorite deep conditioners are Briogeo - Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Hair Mask MIZANI - True Textures Moroccan Clay Steam Hair Mask Wild Haven BOTANICA - Botanical Hair Mask 4. Research and Experiment With Curl Methods The Curly Girl Method (CGM) is one that many curly girls all over the world swear by! I personally don’t follow it but I would recommend reading about it and deciding if you want to give it a try! Everyone’s curls are unique to them - meaning your curls have their own pattern and texture and it takes a lot of trial and error in the beginning. It’s all worth it, I promise! Check out my IG page @type_ofbeautiful for examples of curl styling methods. 5. Be Patient!!! Getting your natural curls to be their very best takes time. I started to see improvement in my curls around the 3 month mark (and gradual improvement since) but everyone is different. As time passes, the combination of your hair getting healthy and learning the best styling methods and products will help your curls transform! It is tough, especially in the beginning, but rewarding in more ways than I can count. Have you started your curl journey yet? Let me know in the comments! #CherieCreator #BeautyWithoutBarriers
