2020 empties and new goodies!!
here are all of my 2020 empties!!! i went ahead and categorized them by brand so that i dont get things mixed up. etude house ——————— ETUDE - SoonJung pH6.5 Whip Cleanser my favorite fungal acne safe cleanser!! its perfect for dry combo skin! ETUDE - Etude House SoonJung pH 5.5 Relief Toner a great fungal acne safe hydrating toner! better for dry skin, it would sometimes leave me oily at the end of the day. drunk elephant ————————— DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum although this serum isn’t fungal acne safe, my skin seems to enjoy it. it has a gel texture and actually regulates my oily forehead DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Cream another non fungal acne safe products. BUT doesn’t cause me to have breakouts!! its a thicc cream but doesn’t leave me feeling oily!! DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream Deluxe Sample again... not fungal acne safe but STILL didn’t cause me to have any breakouts!! the protini feels similar in terms of thickness and the over all feeling on the skin but it feels more “ wearable “ first aid beauty ————————— FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Oil-Control Moisturizer i was super excited to tey this out because the ingredients are fungal acne safe and the claims were ideal for my skin type but sadly i was disappointed 😞 it didn’t control my oil but rather left mw with this shine on my forehead! and it didn’t moisture my dry cheeks. epic fail FIRST AID BEAUTY - Hello FAB Coconut Water Cream this is a very basic fungal acne safe moisturizer i recommend to literally every one. i do like it and all but i find my skin still breaking out while i use this product. i would give it a 3 1/2 stars but i cant. CUROLOGY!!!! ———————— Curology - Curology formula Curology - Curology formula if you have fungal acne THIS is the treatment you NEED to try!!! my holy grail!! naturium ————— NATURIUM - Marine Hyaluronic Water Cream NATURIUM - Marine Hyaluronic Water Cream technically this moisturizer isn’t fungal acne safe because it contains polysorbate HOWEVER its one of the last ingredients listed so its not likely to have any affect. this is my FAVORITE MOISTURIZER!!! super affordable and feels luxurious and its amazing on my combo skin NATURIUM - Niacinamide Serum 12% Plus Zinc 2% my favorite fungal acne safe niacinamide serum!!! its affordable and it does exactly what it claims to do. literally cant get any better than this other lonely products ————————————- boscia - Green Tea Oil-Free Moisturizer this is a fungal acne safe moisturizer however its not very good at moisturizing or controlling oil 😕 but the packaging is cute i guess

My favorite maskne friendly skincare products ✨
My favorite maskne friendly skincare products ✨
It’s a little ironic that some of my favorite products in general are very maskne friendly products (which is something everyone is going through right now!). I personally have oily, acne prone skin with hyperpigmentation. For me it comes down to non-comedogenic ingredients, treatments (like BHAs), and hydration without being too heavy. My holy grail acne treatment in general is the CLINIQUE - Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel . Every time a pesky blemish pops up I pop a little bit of this on that baby. It’s 1.5% salicylic acid which will help go into the pores and clean out all the dirt, sebum, and debris while reducing inflammation. I’ve been using this for almost two years ago and it’s the best spot treatment ever. For my pigmentation, inflammation, sebum control, and texture I’ve been alternating The Ordinary - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% and GOOD MOLECULES - Niacinamide Serum . Azelaic acid is perfect for acne as it kills the bacteria causing it. This one is a little bit on the thicker side but it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. It’s help a lot with the reduction of my inflammation as well as brightening post acne spots. The Good Molecules niacinamide is the best one I’ve ever used! It has a gel serum consistency that absorbs so nicely into the skin without making my skincare pill like I’ve had in the past with others. It also helps with reduction of inflammation, lightening of hyperpigmentation, and balances sebum production so that’s less sebum that can potentially get trapped and cause breakouts. Now comes irritation! I had a really bad reaction to my mask back in June. I’m not sure what caused it but you could see the irritation in the outline of my mask on my face. The FIRST AID BEAUTY - FAB Pharma Arnica Relief & Rescue Mask soothed that down immediately and brought relief. It contains a lot of hydration and stress reducing ingredients like arnica, centalla asiatica extract, and cannabis sativa seed oil. Then a lightweight but hydrating moisturizer is key! I’ve been loving the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Oil-Control Moisturizer during this pandemic as it hydrates my skin (which is a must when you’re using acne treating products) but it absorbs almost instantly so you don’t feel like something heavy it on your face. It has a really nice gel consistency that is perfect for oily skin. It also contains oil controlling ingredients to help you throughout the day. And finally I use The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil which I think is perfect for anything treating acne scars. It is rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants needed for cell renewal. You only need a few drops and it absorbs right in. It’s non-comedogenic and helps reduce the signs of aging, adds hydration, and supports your moisture barrier.

how to clear up your fungal acne
how to clear up your fungal acne
growing up i never really had acne. it wasn’t until maybe 8th grade till i noticed some texture on my forehead and it only got worse throughout my freshman year of high school. after trying every acne treatment ever invented (ok maybe not all of them) ive finally have found out a way to maintain my FA so that i dont look like 14 year old me anymore 😳 what is fungal acne? fungal acne ( malassezia folliculitis ) is when the healthy yeasts that live on your skin get too comfortable and start to grow. causing that raised itchy texture we all hate what causes fungal acne weather ( hot humid climate ) sweat stress certain ingredients (lipids, polysorbates, esters, oils, and fermented ingredients) what to avoid ok so as said in the previous section, certain ingredients can promote the growth of malassezia. and it just so happens that a HUGE percentage of skincare on the market will be formulated with these types of ingredients. i know very sucky so here are some ingredients to avoid! -absolutely NO oils. the only oils that are fungal acne safe are squalane oil, mineral oil, MCT oil. -all polysorbates including 20, 40, 60, 80 -fermented ingredients ESPECIALLY galacmyces -fatty acids ( stearic, linoleic, myristic, oleic) just to name a few -esters ( glyceryl stearate is the most common one) treatment and ingredients that help -Curology - Curology formula ( clindamycin, niacinamide, azelaic acid, zinc pyrithione) - green tea extracts -honey/ propolis extract -slicylic acid (bha) -sulfur ( De La Cruz - Sulfur Ointment, Acne Medication, Maximum Strength) - tea tree oil - urea - sun exposure 😀🌤 - then we have the inti dandruff shampoo like Nizoral - Anti Dandruff Shampoo and head & shoulders - Classic Clean Daily-Use Anti-Dandruff Shampoo but in my opinion i find them to be unaffected but idk try it for yourself some of my favorite products for fa -CeraVe - Salicylic Acid Facial Cleanser -Curology - Curology formula( azelaic acid, clindamycin, zinc pyrithione) -NATURIUM - Niacinamide Serum 12% Plus Zinc 2% -Glossier. - Super Pure Niacinamide + Zinc Serum -FIRST AID BEAUTY - Hello FAB Coconut Water Cream -FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Oil-Control Moisturizer for more information about fungal acne go to www.simpleskincarescience.com and go read “The Fungal Acne Treatment Bible (2020): Cure Malassezia With Science!” to check if your skincare products are fa safe go to - folliculitisscout.com -sezia.co -skincarisma.com ( that one isn’t as reliable but it still pretty good) like and share! xo melanie

quarantine empties!
quarantine empties!
so as we all know..... we’re in a global pandemic. and while some people focused on loosing weight, learning a new skill, or maybe playing animal crossing, ive put my mind on using up some of the products ive had laying around for a bit. the first product i finished up was DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum i first used this serum on december 5th and would occasionally stop using it. but may 2nd would be the last she would pump her luxurious insides😪 next was DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Cream like b hydra i first used her on december 5th and her last few pumps were on may 2nd. i was kinda shocked to find out that id run out of this product on the same day as b hydra but i mean... oh well. then we have FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Oil-Control Moisturizer i first used this moisturizer on april 6th and her death date is undisclosed 😳 i really don’t remember when i finished her up but i can only assume it was around the beginning of june 🤷🏻‍♀️ idk sowy and finally.... the moisturizer that took me the longest to finish was boscia - Green Tea Oil-Free Moisturizer i had first gotten this moisturizer for my birthday but had started to use it on march 12th. and finally finished her last night soooo on august 19. throughout her time i had started to use other moisturizers like the fab ulta repar oil control. then i finished up the drunk elephant moisturizer, then back to the fab moisturizer then i bought the naturium moisturizer aaahhhhh so much shopping i know. but i recently has gone back to the boscia moisturizer to recover my skin from a fungal acne breakout but now that shes gone, FIRST AID BEAUTY - Hello FAB Coconut Water Cream will take over her position 😀 like and save! xo melanie

Why is your skincare pilling up?
Why is your skincare pilling up?
Nothing is worse than finishing off your skincare routine to find that something in your routine is balling up on your face. This can be such a pain in the morning because you basically have to start over before you can even start applying make up. There are a few reasons why this may be happening. 1.) Ingredients aren’t meshing well together This has been the case for me lately with the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Oil-Control Moisturizer and Supergoop! - 100% Mineral Smooth & Poreless Matte Screen SPF 40 . Then first one is water based while the second one is silicone based. When I apply the sunscreen on top of the moisturizer it pills up immediately because they don’t mix correctly and separate. Despite loving both products I’ve found they don’t work well together so I no longer use them together. 2.) You’re applying products in the wrong order This has a similar point as point one. Water and oil don’t mix. If you’re putting oil based skincare on before or sandwiching it with water based skincare their is a /potential for pilling. Generally you want to use your water based serums first and then use any oil based skincare on top to create a barrier to seal in any actives. 3.) You’re applying too much product I’m definitely one to want to throw everything on my face in way more quantities than I should but now is definitely the time to take a step back. It’s very tempting but less is more. Your skin can only absorb so much product. If you’re overloading it on there is potential for unabsorbed product to pill. These are all potential reasons why skincare can be pilling up. It’s a total pain to deal with but hopefully realizing why it might be doing this is the first step to correcting it. 🖤

Light as air moisturizer!
Light as air moisturizer!
This is my new holy grail moisturizer! 😍 actually this brand has now become one of my favorite skincare brands! They heavily considered people with sensitive skin and this moisturizer is no exception 🙌🏽 My skin type is very sensitive, combination, and acne prone. I need a moisturizer that is moisturizing, not to watery and not too rich (full of essential oils and fragrance). If you have a suspicion that your skincare may be breaking you out, then I would check for those things in your skincare. This moisturizer is the best of both worlds: no essential oils, no fragrance, rich but not too rich. It’s everything I wanted in a moisturizer. Also, the packaging is pretty big! First aid beauty’s price range is up there ($25+) but they give you a lot of product, and you can tell they a lot of work into making their products sensitive skin friendly! After using the moisturizer for a month, I’ve been keeping my acne under control! Sometimes I even put the moisturizer on my hands because it just feels therapeutic.
