Natural Looking Concealer Application Tips & Tricks
Natural Looking Concealer Application Tips & Tricks
The best concealer application makes you look awake, brightened up, and doesn’t age you by settling into your creases! Since I truly believe the magic is in the application, the concealer you have is probably just fine. That said, I really love the Kosas Revealer Concealer because is nourishing to the under eyes and the formula dries down nicely while still looking like skin! Kosas products are formulated without fragrance, talc, parabens, and dimethicone/cyclic silicon’s just to name a few. They are also cruelty-free. My skin tone is fair, and my skin type is normal to dry. I like to use my concealer for the occasional blemish and to brighten up my under eyes but the tips below are still applicable for wherever you might apply your concealer. For flawless concealer application: 1.     Don’t apply too much product. I try not to apply the product directly to my face but instead to the back of my hand. 2.     You could use your finger to tap a teeny bit of the product on the desired areas but using a Real Techniques beauty sponge to thin the product out on the back of my hand first (by blotting), then apply to the face delivers best results and is much faster. 3.     Avoid applying directly under your eyes, smile lines, forehead wrinkles, etc. If you MUST have concealer on one of these “creasy” spots, go light. 4.     Set it! Use a good setting powder to set immediately. For those areas like under my eyes where I want to conceal (even knowing I have wrinkles there) I use a setting powder to avoid creasing. I love the Aisling Organic Rice Setting Powder. Since its translucent it will work on most skin tones. It goes on light and I love the blurring properties it has.

Skin concern: acne, dark circles
Skin concern: acne, dark circles
I’m a huge fan of Kosas makeup, so needless to say I was thrilled when they dropped a concealer (and right when I needed a new concealer, too!) I love this brand because they tout themselves as being “makeup for skincare freaks,” and that’s such a perfect description. Their products are always chock full of soothing ingredients that not only look great as makeup but also help improve skin with regular use. I have their tinted face oil, cream blush and highlighter, and lip balm, and I love them all! This concealer has been a daily staple since I got it. A word about the shades: Kosas says to get the same shade as the tinted face oil, but I had to go a shade lighter (I’m a 3 in the TFO and I got a 2 for this concealer). They do tend to run pretty yellow-y, undertone-wise, so I would highly suggest getting a sample or swatching these if at all possible before committing to buying. So this concealer is marketed as a concealer, eye cream, and spot treatment, highlighting again how Kosas aims to make products that are both makeup and skincare in one. I use this on my dark circles and on any acne or scars that aren’t covered by my base. It contains ingredients like arnica, caffeine, and peptides, which help support natural healing processes and brighten the skin. It also has hyaluronic acid, squalane, and botanical extracts like algae extract, rosemary leaf oil, and fennel fruit oil. It’s also vegan and cruelty-free. This is a very creamy concealer that I find blends very well into a natural, skin-like finish while doing all the concealing I need it to do. It wears super well throughout the day—the only caveat it that it does crease badly on me if I don’t set it with powder. While it’s not a dramatic difference, it does seem to be helping slightly with the healing of blemishes—at the very least, the moisturizing ingredients keep the skin soft instead of dry—I’ve tried too many concealers in the past that made blemishes look like dried up frosted flakes 😩 I highly recommend Kosas to all my fellow skincare freaks, and I think they knocked it out of the park with this one!

No Makeup Makeup in under 10 Minutes
No Makeup Makeup in under 10 Minutes
These are my go-to products that I can quickly swipe on my face in under 10 minutes and feel put together. ULTRA VIOLETTE - Lean Screen SPF 50+ Mattifying Zinc This is UV newest sunscreen in their lineup. It is a mineral sunscreen which appears to be slightly tinted but ends up just looking like you have this wonderful blurring filter on the face. Perfect for my No makeup makeup days. Although I have dry skin, I don’t find this drying at all! I’ve taken a star off because I still do prefer glowy sunscreens but I think I’m going to love this in summer. CHANEL - BAUME ESSENTIEL Multi-Use Glow Stick After applying sunscreen, I apply this to the peaks of my face. Applying products on top of this gives me the most beautiful lit from within glow and I love this product because it’s just pure DEW with no sparkles or metallic finish Kosas - Revealer Super Creamy + Brightening Concealer A hydrating, a natural finish concealer which had yellow undertones that helps cancel out any redness around my eyes and blemishes. This is my ideal concealer, not too heavy or cakey but super brightening! A holy grail for sure. CHANEL - Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream Gives you the perfect “I just got back from vacation” effortless glow. I love this because it is just so easy to apply and blend out. I’ve taken off a star because it’s not inclusive, I wish they would expand the shade range! ANASTASIA Beverly Hills - Micro-Stroking Detailing Brow Pen The newest brow pen in my collection. It’s very pigmented and allows you to draw natural looking hair like strokes. I’ve only rated it three stars because I find due to how pigmented it is, it can be a struggle to get thin strokes and the brush could be thinner as well. Glossier. - Boy Brow A classic for a reason! The perfect product for fluffy, natural brows. This is my holy grail! I have very coarse brows and this holds them in place like no other. I use the shade “clear” ILIA - Limitless Lash Mascara the peeerfect mascara for a busy day because it never smudges or transfers so I don’t have to worry about checking for panda eyes. In addition it gives me the most beautiful fluttery lashes, a new holy grail for sure! Kosas - Wet Lip Oil Gloss A holy grail lip product because it feels like a balm but gives me the “my lips but better” look. It’s the perfect gloss because it is so easy to reach for and apply without even needing a mirror. I’m using shade “Dip” #CheriePartner

A full face in just 10 minutes!
A full face in just 10 minutes!
Happy Friday, cherie fam! I don’t know about you, but my friday makeup tends to be especially quick and easy. Anyone who has a zoom call with me on fridays can deal with it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) I wanted to share the makeup I put on this morning in just under ten minutes! The finished look is casual, put together, and glowy, and my real skin is still visible under the light makeup. Basic info about my skin: I’m oily and acne prone, and my main concerns right now are dark circles and hyperpigmentation from acne. I also have sparse brows and I like to fill them in—if I do nothing else, I’ll do my brows because I feel naked without them 😂 Here’s a step by step, including all the products I used: First, I apply a few drops of the Kosas - Tinted Face Oil Foundation all over my face, blending it into my hairline and neckline. I’ve reviewed this before, so I won’t go into detail here, but I love it! I just spread it and pat it in with my fingers—no beauty blender/brush needed. Next, I use the Kosas - Revealer Super Creamy + Brightening Concealer under my eyes and on any blemishes. Scroll back a few posts for my thoughts on this concealer and why it’s worth repurchasing! Third, I apply the cream blush from the Kosas - Color & Light: Cream Blush & Highlighter Duo on the apples of my cheeks. I usually use a brush, but I can use my fingers in a pinch. I have the color Helios and it’s such a beautiful deep orange shade. The formula itself is very creamy and nourishing—it really feels like skincare AND makeup. I set everything with a light dusting of the Milk MAKEUP - Blur + Set Matte Loose Setting Powder . I love this powder, and it’s lasting me FOREVER even with daily use, but I desperately want them to improve the packaging 😩 The mesh makes it difficult to get the product out at times. I do my brows with a few quick swipes of the Milk MAKEUP - KUSH Fiber Brow Gel , my holy grail brow gel. This is the only product on my brows and LOOK how it fills them in! I do a quick coat of the bareMinerals - Lashtopia Mega Volume Mineral-Based Mascara to add length and volume to my lashes. This mascara last alllll day without flaking at all on me. Last, I swipe on some nooni - Appleberry Lip Oil , and I’m done! I LOVE this tinted oil—it feels very hydrating without being sticky, and it’s an incredible bargain compared to other tinted lip oils out there (I got it for $12 on amazon). It has a pink tint and a subtle berry flavor. And that’s it! All of these products are so simple to use, making them perfect for a quick and easy makeup look. #CheriePartner

One empty, one newbie!
One empty, one newbie!
I know I appreciate these types of posts, because if someone uses up a whole product and decides to repurchase it, they’ve had the time to form a solid opinion of it, for better or for worse. That’s why I wanted to share this product, the Kosas - Revealer Super Creamy + Brightening Concealer , because I recently repurchased it after running out of my first tube. Clearly, I’m a fan! I got this concealer pretty soon after it first came out. I’m a fan of Kosas in general—I like their tinted face oil, cream blush and highlight palettes, tinted lip balm, and liquid eyeshadow. They seem to have a pretty good shade range of most products, and I like that they have high-intensity blush options for deeper skin tones. They did get some blowback for their bronzer range, which isn’t inclusive of darker skin tones, and I hope they’ll take the criticism to heart and use it to do better. In addition, Kosas is considered a “clean” brand, as they adhere to Sephora’s clean beauty standards and they exclude over 2700 ingredients, including parabens, sulfates, talc, petroleum, and aluminum. They are also cruelty free and leaping bunny certified. Now on to the concealer! Kosas claims this is a medium to full coverage product with skincare benefits to brighten skin. They claim it’s like an eye cream, spot treatment, and makeup all in one. It has ingredients like caffeine, pink algae, arnica, peptides, and hyaluronic acid. The formula is super creamy and truly feels nourishing. I will say that the undertones do tend to pull a little yellow, so I would recommend swatching to find your best match if possible. I was able to swatch these in store before COVID hit, and I found that I needed a shade lighter than my shade of the tinted face oil. This brightens up my under eye area and covers my blemishes without looking too dark. This does tend to crease under my eyes if I don’t set it with powder, but every concealer I’ve ever tried ends up creasing so I think it has something to do with my eye shape or something. The formula blends super well (I just use my fingers), and it leaves a natural, dewy finish. I was shocked when I tried it in store because it seemed to just melt into my skin and it didn’t look like I was wearing anything at all. I’ve used this concealer under my eyes and on blemishes almost every day since I got in back in... March? February? Point is, it’s lasted me a looong time, so I think the price of $28 is reasonable. I hope this post was helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions about this product. 💕 #CheriePartner

Then ➡️ Now (scary post for me)
Then ➡️ Now (scary post for me)
Only a handful of people know what I’ve gone through with my skin. I was diagnosed with Perioral Dermatitis in 2013. I noticed a burning rash forming around my nose. My mom took me to a dermatologist where I discovered that I had dermatitis and NOT acne. I was put on an intense antibiotic that was harsh on my stomach. This medicine did make my rash go away - BUT only for as long as I took it. My dermatologist didn’t have any other ideas for getting rid of the rash so she continued to prescribe me an antibiotic for the next FIVE years. (yes - I know that was bad). Most dermatologists suggest makeup worsens and can seriously aggravate PD, but I wear makeup 90% of the time and nothing can stop me. Without it I was miserable. After having tried almost every single face makeup product in the U.S. (and many from other countries), they are my tried-and-true favorites during perioral dermatitis flare-ups. They successfully conceal without making the condition any worse. First, ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40, $46 It contain niacinamide, non-nano micronized zinc (zinc oxide is a great ingredient for treating PD), and hyaluronic acid. Make sure to shake this up really well before applying it. It’ll have a slight white cast for a few seconds, and then oxidizes to your skin tone like magic. Second, Kosas Revealer Concealer, $28 It isn’t a foundation, but it has the coverage of one. I like to micro-conceal for a fresh look when I don’t feel like beating a whole face, and this is one of the best products for that. It has panthenol, which is a form of Vitamin B5, and it’s known for healing skin. I’ve applied it on top of a PD flare-up and I had no adverse reactions.
