How to (Temporarily) Shrink Your Pores in 1 Hour
How to (Temporarily) Shrink Your Pores in 1 Hour
What you might think are stubborn blackheads that you can’t remove, no matter how religiously you use salicylic acid, are actually sebaceous filaments, which are basically a combination of sebum (your skin’s natural oils), bacteria, dead skin cells, and even the single hair in your hair follicle that have all come together to create that annoying clogged pore. Unfortunately, the size of your pores is determined by your genetics, and they can’t be truly “shrunk,” no matter what a product claims. Although you can only temporarily reduce the appearance of your pores, it’s a pretty simple and extremely satisfying process known as “gritting.” I first learned about this process from Fifty Shades of Snail, whose process is well known in the online skincare community. The process uses three products — a BHA chemical exfoliant, like salicylic acid; a clay mask; and a cleansing oil — and takes about 1 hour max. It’s recommended that you do this in the morning, about once every few days, so this is a great way to indulge in some skincare self-care on the weekends! Below are my favorite products to use for gritting: COSRX - BHA Blackhead Power Liquid This is one of my favorite chemical exfoliants: it’s affordable, effective, and applies beautifully! I use this for gritting and for chemically exfoliating twice a week. AZTEC SECRET - Indian Healing Clay I only use this mask for gritting. I personally don’t find it helpful to regularly use clay masks, as I’ve found them to be a little too harsh for me, even with my oily/combination skin. I use raw apple cider vinegar to make my mask, which helps to lower the higher pH of the bentonite in the clay to a more skin-friendly level, which should be around 4-5. Simple Skincare Science has a great post about whether you should use water or raw apple cider vinegar to mix with your clay mask. There are other types of clay masks that might be more suitable for your skin type, like kaolin clay for dry or sensitive skin or French green clay that has more healing properties. This specific clay mask is just the most affordable and easily accessible option! Orgain - Organic Mct Oil Unflavored Okay, this is where things might get a little weird, but I use MCT oil as my cleansing oil. MCT oil is most commonly used in keto/low-carb diets as a source of energy. I use MCT oil on my skin because it’s extracted from caprylic acid, which does not cause problems for malassezia, or fungal acne. I have a huge bottle of C8 MCT oil from the brand Kiss My Keto that I decanted into a smaller vessel with a pump. The only downside is that because this oil wasn’t made with the intention of being used as a cleansing oil, it doesn’t emulsify when you clean it off your face. I get around that by using a lukewarm, damp towel to gently remove it. If you end up trying the “gritting” process, let me know what you think in the comments!

Looking For A Calming Cleanser?
Looking For A Calming Cleanser?
COSRX Pure Fit Cica Cleanser ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 I semi-recently discovered COSRX and am pretty impressed with their products so far. I started by purchasing their COSRX - Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence Snail 96 Essence, then their COSRX - BHA Blackhead Power Liquid Blackhead Power Liquid and then, while looking for a calming cleanser, purchased their Cica cleanser. COSRX is cruelty-free and is labled as “clean beauty” (that doesn’t actually mean anything in the skincare world, but nonetheless). The COSRX - Pure Fit Cica Cleanser is billed as low-pH, calming, soothing, strengthening and protecting. * “A mild cleanser with a rich, gentle foam” * “This foam cleanser effectively balances the skin, helping it stay smooth and supple” * “Formulated with CICA-7 Complex and Pinus Pinaster Bark extract” *CICA-7 is said to smooth and protect irritated, sensitive skin and strengthen the skin barrier. *Pinus Pinaster Bark extract contains Vitamin E and is said to relieve and help in skin recovery. (*Source: Amazon’s product listing) It also has Centella in it. It’s scientific name is Centella asiatica*, it’s higher classification being pennywort. “Centella asiatica known Gotu Kola is a medicinal plant that has been used in folk medicine for hundreds of years as well as in scientifically oriented medicine.” (*Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3834700/#idm139695891535344title) So far, my skin is a fan! I have had many instances (particularly with my neck as my skin is SO SENSITIVE AND TEMPERAMENTAL THERE) and this has been a really gentle cleanser that caused zero irritation and I was even able to use some on my healing neck. It had been about a week or so since it had had an adverse reaction to a product and I was able to gently use this without any real sass from my neck. I was initially a little worried because it has a sharp natural scent that I thought might irritated my skin or drive me crazy but it did neither. The smell washes off with the cleanser. It seems to be doing a really nice job in combination with the rest of my skincare routine and it is becoming my most-frequently-reached-for facial cleansers. I would definitely recommend this face wash. An effective, gentle cleanser from a cruelty-free company is a total win in my book.

Are you sure you picked the right BHA?
Are you sure you picked the right BHA?
BHA HYPE TRAIN. I know you’re on it and if you’re not seriously consider adding it to your routine permanently. As a warning before adding BHA patch test and introduce it slowly into your routine. I’ve been using BHA regularly for a long time now. 10 months of Paula’s Choice until my bottle was finished. That’s not too bad seeing that I paid $30 for it. In 10 months I was able to see some progress. I did have a little bit of a purging phase on it but overtime I saw a reduction in my sebum output. It helped a ton in cell turnover as I saw my acne scars fade faster at the cost of patchy and dry flaky areas. My provider told me to build tolerance up to daily use but even at 3x a week intervals the dryness haunted me. Once I finished my bottle, it didn’t take me long to replace it. I’m not saying Paula’s Choice BHA sucks but I also don’t like its scent. Smells like I’m pumping gas in the boonies. All I know is that my BHA doesn’t have to smell like lucky charms and rainbows but does it have to smell like gasoline? I bought the COSRX BHA power liquid which I actually prefer so much more than Paula’s Choice. COSRX uses 4% betaine salicylate whereas Paula’s Choice uses 2% salicylic acid. My skin type is combination and my nose and cheeks area are the more prone areas for sebum build up and sebaceous filaments. Maybe the dryness was causing me to produce more oils and sebum which didn’t really help my skin concerns. Salicylic acid is more harsh in comparison to COSRX’s betaine salicylate formula. So after making the switch, I waited one month to see the effects. I thought it wasn’t as effective as Paula’s Choice at first but now I’m really starting to see results. Paula’s Choice BHA would leave me super dry that my pores looked more stretched out. Now with COSRX Blackhead power liquid my pores feel and look tighter? If that’s the right word to describe it. The sebaceous filaments are still there but I know it’s deep and will probably take time if it will ever go away. It is smaller though so YAY! Thank you Cherie for providing a platform where we can encourage each other in being comfortable in our own skin. I know that I have a hard time remembering this on my own but maybe if i write it out it’ll help me to remember that even if it bugs the heck out of you having textured skin is ok. I reviewed PC with 4 stars before but now that I found a better option and was able to see its effects on my skin i’ll be updating my review to 3 stars: PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator COSRX - BHA Blackhead Power Liquid

Why do we exfoliate? To remove build up that may cause other skin concerns Your skin renews itself every 30 days and if your old cells and build up are still on the surface you start looking meh 😑 flat, dull, scaly, or pimply! Acne-causing bacteria feed on the oil trapped by skin cells that don’t turn over quickly enough. We lose ~500 million skin cells daily. Exfoliation is the 🔑 for prevention. To help improve the penetration of other products Exfoliation can help that immensely by letting the good stuff sink as deep as it can into your epidermis. Yes, we want penetration 😂 The better absorption of your products, the better the skin maintenance. Acne-causing bacteria feed on the oil trapped by skin cells that don’t turn over quickly enough. When do we exfoliate? All year round and especially during... ❄️ COLD WEATHER 🥶 In winter, humidity levels drop drawing out moisture from your skin causing more cells to dry out and accumulate on the surface. Heat waves in Cali there may be but WINTER IS COMING. Exfoliate to uncover the fresh and smooth beauty underneath. EXFOLIANT TYPES Chemical: AHA, BHA, enzymes, serums, peels yas! Physical: Microbeads, plant fibers, konjac sponge etc. How often? Dry/sensitive: 1-2x per week with a chemical exfoliant. Use an enzyme based exfoliant for sensitive types, for dry types use glycolic acid and don’t skip moisturizer! 🧴 If you’re into physical exfoliation you can use TATCHA - The Rice Polish Foaming Enzyme Powder Oily/acne-prone: 2-3x per week with a chemical and/or physical exfoliant. Build your tolerance to exfoliating and look for salicylic acid, a BHA because it’s oil soluble! TryPAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator or COSRX - BHA Blackhead Power Liquid Combination skin: 2-3x per week with a chemical and/or physical exfoliant. The best part about having combination skin is that you can try anything and see what works best for you. A skincare addict’s day dream! Mature skin: 2x per week with a chemical exfoliant. A cherie user recommended enzyme exfoliants because it helps with anti-aging. Try an AHA too! 📝 if you’re new to this introduce it slowly, check ingredients, patch test and talk to your medical provider. You need it but you need not overdo it! 🤩

CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin This hydrating facial cleanser is a MUST in your skincare routine! with 3 ceramides and hyaluronic acid, it’s gentle enough to use on the face. unlike the Cerave foaming facial cleanser, the hydrating cleanser doesn’t strip your skin of the essential oils it needs, but hydrates. the consistency of this cleanser feels water based and goes onto the face feeling very hydrating. I usually leave the cleanser on my face for about 1 min and then rinse with lukewarm water. Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Smoothing Gel Exfoliator 150ml This hydro boost exfoliator has given my skin new perceptions. This exfoliator has helped my acne scars and textured skin to become very minimal. The consistency of this exfoliator is gel like with micro beads to help the exfoliating process. this product is gentle enough to wear it doesn’t leave micro tears in your skin, but I can still feel the beads exfoliating! I usually place a pea size ( a little goes a long way) in my hand and rub it together to create more product to place on my face. I rub the product into my face for about 30 seconds and let it set for the other 30 seconds, then rinse with luke warm water. I use the exfoliator about 2-3 times a week. DERMA•E - Vitamin C Concentrated Serum I have just recently started using the Derma-E vitamin C concentrated serum, but by the looks of it, I think it has really brightened up my skin. I use about 2 pumps of the product every morning and apply evenly to my face ( it smells like fruit loops!). Don’t forget to apply sunscreen before going out! COSRX - BHA Blackhead Power Liquid I have struggled with black heads, especially on my nose, my entire life. I tried pretty much ANYTHING (even pore strips; yuk!) to try and remove my blackheads. I came across this product on my favorite estheticians page and decided to try it out. I was amazed after just a couple days of using that my nose looked as clear as the rest of my skin! it’s recommended to use 1-2 a week, but I use it every day. I apply with a cotton round pad to the areas affected (usually just my nose) and let it sit and continue my skin care routine after it dries! CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin Not much has to be said about this moisturizing lotion because it simply is the best! my heart will always go with Cerave products and this is the best lotion I have found for my face! I apply it evenly on my face and neck once in the morning and once at night.

GAME CHANGER! 🔥
GAME CHANGER! 🔥
This is my first Korean skincare product that I purchased 💖 I was struggling with small bumps on my forehead and large/clogged pores and so I purchased this at a Riley Rose at my local shopping mall (you can also purchase this on Amazon and Ulta). I’ve seen a HUGE improvement on my skin using this product. I started using it once a week and then increased to twice a week. Currently I am not using it because I’ve been trying to repair my skin barrier (I over exfoliated + winter weather 😑) but I will definitely return to this product! ✨Product highlights✨ + has a pump application + not expensive! + lasts long + saw immediate results + can be purchased on Amazon or Ulta ✨ How I apply (after my toner and before my serums): + two pumps on a cotton pad + evenly wipe across my face + let sit for 10-20 seconds + apply serum/moisturizer I definitely love COSRX and will be researching more products to try out ✨
