ingredient spotlight: oatmeal
This post is all about oatmeal, which is definitely something I never thought would be in skincare. However, I’ve found it insanely helpful for dry or normal skin types, as well as sensitive and acne prone skin. It’s very soothing and repairing! It is produced by finely grinding oats, then boiling them. The antioxidants found in oats (and colloidal oatmeal), can help soothe skin! It also contains water-binding properties and is an effective skin protectant. The FDA categorizes colloidal oatmeal as a skin protectant, allowing it to be listed as an active ingredient on skincare products. Today I’m going to be talking about three products with oats, FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner , Krave - Oat So Simple Water Cream , and the Herbal Dynamics Beauty - HYALURONIC ACID & OAT OVERNIGHT RECOVERY MASK . — Wild Oat Hydrating Toner: perfect in my AM routine when I need some extra hydration AND to tone, but don’t wanna dry my skin out. I usually apply this with my hands, after I wash them, and just kind of pat the milky toner in. It’s a great layering product, and I can layer a few pats of this in before going in with my moisturizer. It’s pretty watery, but somehow manages to pack in a lot of hydration; sometimes I’ll mix it with a serum to get extra hydration. I make sure to bring this down to my neck and chest cause I don’t wanna leave those out! Because this has colloidal oatmeal, it’s super soothing, mega hydrating, and the most calming. I am nowhere near empty because a little is a lot, but I would totally repurchase this for my am routine when I run out. $22 for 6oz, which is kind of a steal. — Oat So Simple Moisturizer: with oats and squalane, it’s hard to go wrong with this moisturizer. This moisturizer is perfect for my normal to oily skin for the day time, as it’s a water cream and not very thick. It boasts only NINE ingredients, so you can see just how important the oatmeal is to this product. It’s a very soothing and calming moisturizer, sinks in quickly, and neutralizes redness pretty fast. I will occasionally use an oil with this if my skin is dry, but this and the rest of my routine do a pretty good job at hydrating! It may not be enough for dry skin or skin that is prone to lots of environmental damage over the course of the day. This runs at $28, which I also think is a good deal, and I would repurchase it! — Hyaluronic Acid and Oat Overnight Recovery Mask: unfortunately, I do not like this product. The texture of it really throws me off, as it’s very moisturizer-but-balmy. When applied, it kind of streaks along my face and doesn’t sink in for a while, and doesn’t really add any hydration or soothing properties like the other two I’ve mentioned. It has more of a wash off mask feeling than an overnight, as it doesn’t dry. This is the first product I’ve tried with oats that doesn’t hold up! The full size runs about $30 (I have the mini at $17, gifted).
Best budget friendly hydrating toner!
Best budget friendly hydrating toner!
I picked up the First Aid Beauty Wild Oat Hydrating Toner about 2 months ago in a pinch. I had run out of all my hydrating toners at the time and needed a quick and inexpensive replacement to hold me over until I replenished my stock. Never did end up repurchasing my old toner. FAB claims this toner hydrates, relieves and soothes and I agree on all counts. If my skin is feeling irritated or sensitive I always reach for this and apply a few thin layers or until my skin audibly sighs with relief. The toner is a milky consistency, you see it’s viscous enough to form steady droplets but still very fluid. I love the consistency of this because it doesn’t disappear instantly and leave you wanting more. It takes a while to soak in so you’ve got to pat it in a bit but it leaves behind a moisturized, protected feeling finish that’s not sticky or heavy, just healthy. Strangely I LOVE how this toner smells. It’s unscented but it’s got the best unscented scent, I can only assume it’s the oat aspect coming through. I find it makes my user experience that much more enjoyable and you can find me, fave buried in my hands huffing this stuff on the nightly. I’m nearing the end of this bottle and ive gotta say, this is the most bang for your buck hydrating toner I’ve ever tried. At $22 and a 2 month duration with daily use, this is the toner I’d recommend to anyone and everyone. 5/5 ⭐️

My Favorite Serums (Dry & Senstive Skin) 🤩
My Favorite Serums (Dry & Senstive Skin) 🤩
When I shops for a serum, there are two things I evaluate before spending the 💵: * Can it help dry skin? * Will it irritate me? Well these two products are what been saving my skin the past few months from stress and dryness. They don’t do anything fancy other than hydrate my skin & exfoliate to give me a glow 🌟 The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 can be purchased for just $6 at ULTA and is the best HA I have used so far. It plumps my skin, packs in hydration, and is non-irritating. The texture is like a lightweight gel and little goes a long way. I apply it by pressing it into my skin after I have applied my toner. HERBIVORE - Prism 12% AHA + 3% BHA Exfoliating Glow Serum is an amazing AHA/BHA exfoliator and perfect for those of us with dry skin. It has a very similar texture to the HA from The Ordinary, and feels just as hydrating too. This product is a bit on the pricier side [retailing for $54] so if this is out of your price range, my next fave exfoliating serum would be The Ordinary - Lactic Acid 5% + HA ⭐️ The Prism serum I typically apply during my night routine and the Hyaluronic Acid is used on an everyday basis. I love using both with my HONEST - Calm On Foaming Cream Cleanserand my FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Wild Oat Hydrating Toner 💛 I usually follow up with the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration as my moisturizer 🧴 ✨ What are your favorite serums? #CheriePartner

👩‍🔬My Tretinoin Journey ~ 8 Weeks in
👩‍🔬My Tretinoin Journey ~ 8 Weeks in
Hi all! I started tretinoin / retin-a about 8 weeks ago for the first time. I got my prescription from Curology specifically seeking tretinoin, which I told my doctor so he would be sure to prescribe it to me! Always tell them if you’re looking for a specific ingredient! 👩‍🔬What is tretinoin/Retin-A? Tretinoin is a Retinoid; retinoids are derivatives of Vitamin A (retinol, retinaldehyde, retinal, isotretinoin, adapalene are others.) Tretinoin’s intended and approved use is for acne, as it was created for acne treatment, but it is very often prescribed for anti aging and skin texture because through the decades of research, doctors found it was great for reducing wrinkles and large pores and repairing sun damage. Tretinoin increases cell turnover and exfoliates the top layers of our skin Decreases the shedding of dead skin cells into our pores + decreases inflammation It works much more deeply and much more effectively than its non-prescription counterparts, such as regular retinol Although strengths cannot be compared across the board, it has been observed that retinol is roughly 20 times less potent than tretinoin Decades of research confirm tretinoin as the holy grail, “gold-standard” in topical treatments for fighting acne + clogged pores, as well as smoothing out fine lines + wrinkles, reducing pigmentation from damage, and evening the skin texture 🙋‍♀️Who should use tretinoin? Tretinoin is suitable for most people; the only people who should be wary of it are those who have extremely sensitive skin, rosacea ❌Do not use tretinoin or any retinoids when pregnant or breastfeeding!❌ Dermatologists say that tretinoin is a great option for comedonal acne since it exfoliates + prevents plugging of the pores 💊Using/starting Tretinoin - tips from me + my dermatologist I’d recommend starting with tretinoin in a lotion/cream formula as it tends to be less harsh than the gel due to having soothing ingredients included in the formula. Curology has a cream formula that I absolutely love LOW + SLOW : start with a low dose (ask your doctor and give them your history) + go slowly with use. My derm recommended starting M W F of each week but do it less if you are experiencing too much irritation always follow instructions + advice from your dermatologist. With curology, I am able to send my provider messages and pictures with concerns and requests Simplify your routine! I did cut back to hydrating cleanser(s), hydrating toner or essence, thick moisturizer, my curology formula, + an oil on top to lock it all in. As your skin accustoms you will be able to slowly work those treatment products back in SPF ALWAYS🌞 I started tretinoin at 0.005% and upped to 0.01% after one month and I am seeing smoother skin and smaller pores, with very little purging. Pictures are from ordered from oldest to new except the first which compares starting with 8 weeks. FULL Gentle Hydrating Skincare Routine
FULL Gentle Hydrating Skincare Routine
This has kind of been the theme of my entire Cherie page since its creation, but I’ve been needing to really hydrate my skin more since the weather’s become colder. Having rosacea means I always need to do extra research on the products I try. So after some experimenting, trying a LOT of new products, and deciding to stick to some old favorites, this is the routine I’ve come up with for myself: AM Routine Cleanser - Inkey Oat Cleansing Balm: A recent switch for the winter. Leaves my skin feeling nourished and hydrated, but doesn’t tackle my acne very effectively. Might switch back to my old cleanser (Cosrx Good Morning Gel) and just use this when my skin is feeling tight/for double cleansing. Toner - FAB Wild Oat Ultra Hydrating Toner: Another recent switch. This toner is so hydrating that I don’t need to use hydrating masks or overnight creams as frequently as I used to and it’s very calming. Serum - Peach & Lily’s Glass Skin Refining Serum: This is definitely worth the hype. My skin has been noticeably smooth since using it. Spot Treatment - TULA Go Away Acne: Uses benzoyl peroxide to work on acne which can interfere with rosacea, so I don’t use this on my cheeks but it works well in other areas. Not a repurchase for me. Eye Cream - Cetaphil Deep Hydration Refreshing Eye Serum: I said recently that eye cream doesn’t work for me, but I’m starting to get wrinkles under my eyes and thought it was important to kick up the hydration and attention. This one is quite gentle and pretty affordable. Moisturizer - CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion: Undefeated! If I need some extra hydration I’ll add a couple drops of Leo Oil and mix on my hand using my ring finger. Sunscreen - EltaMD SPF 46 on days with no makeup or ILIA Serum Skin Tint: Both are mineral sunscreens and unscented with protection in the 40s. PM Routine Cleanser - The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm: ...and I’ll double cleanse with my old Cosrx Good Morning Gel if I wore makeup that day. Toner - FAB Wild Oat Ultra Hydrating Toner Serum - Paula’s Choice CALM 1% BHA Lotion Exfoliant or 10% Azelaic Acid Booster: I like to alternate between these two serums. The BHA (salicylic acid) targets pores and redness. The Azelaic Acid Boost contains salicylic acid too, but is more effective at targeting rosacea specifically. Eye Cream - Veriphy 20/20 Eye Cream: Received this as a gift and I actually really like it! Contains ingredients like peptides, niacinamide, and cucumber extract. But it’s wildly expensive and I won’t be able to repurchase. Moisturizer - CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion + Astrologiens Leo Oil: At night I always combine these two if I’m not using my Naturium Sleeping Cream (2 pumps + 2 drops). I have individual reviews on a number of these products, so if you’re interested in learning more about something feel free to check those posts out or just ask a question here :) Most of these products are generally rosacea and sensitive skin safe. I have type 1 rosacea for reference.
