Hyaluronic Acid 101 x DermDoctor
Hyaluronic Acid 101 x DermDoctor
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a humectant that famously holds 1000 times its weight in water. It pulls in water from the environment and from the deeper layers of your skin. This ingredient seems to be ubiquitous in skincare products nowadays and it can be found in a lot of moisturizers. Benefits: -Immediately plumps the skin, softening fine lines and wrinkles -Hydrates the skin (specifically high-molecular-weight HA) -Assists in wound healing Dermatologist Tips: -Hyaluronic acid is your first step after cleansing -Must be applied to damp skin! -If you live in a dry climate, make sure to moisturize immediately after -Can be used once or twice a day -Safe to layer with most other skincare ingredients My Top Picks: VICHY - Minéral 89 Face Serum This contains a high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, which has moisturizing properties and sits on the surface of the skin without causing inflammation. It contains only 11 ingredients making it ideal for people with sensitive skin (like me). Also, Vichy’s proprietary volcanic water has actually been studied and proven to have skin protective and healing properties THE inkey LIST - Hyaluronic Acid Serum The price point here is unbeatable. Again, with a simple ingredient list, you’re unlikely to run into issues with allergy or irritation. This contains a multi-molecular-weight HA, which allows you reap additional benefits, in addition to hydration and plumping. This also has matrixyl 3000 peptide, which can stimulate collagen synthesis Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Serum Both high and low-molecular weight hyaluronic acid for added benefits. This also contains glycerin (another amazing humectant) and vitamin B5 (an amazing anti-oxidant) NATURIUM - Quadruple Hyaluronic Acid Serum 5% A great option fragrance-free, cruelty-free option from Naturium! This contains multi-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid that hydrates, plumps, and repairs the skin. #CheriePartner

How to properly apply Hyaluronic Acid? 🧐
How to properly apply Hyaluronic Acid? 🧐
First thing first? What’s is hyaluronic Acid? It is also known as hyaluronan, is a clear, gooey substance that is naturally produced by our body. The largest amounts of it are found in your skin, connective tissue and eyes. Its main function is to retain water to keep your tissues well lubricated and moist. Hyaluronic acid has a variety of uses. When used in skin care products like creams and serums, hyaluronic acid brings moisture to the surface of your skin, Because of its ability to draw and hold water, it can be used as a humectant in your skin care regimen. The HA within our bodies holds a thousand times its weight in water to not only retain all that moisture in our skin and joints, but also prevent all that moisture from evaporating into the air Promotes Healthier, More Supple Skin and many other things, depending how you are using it! ‼️‼️‼️Now how to properly use!‼️‼️‼️ hyaluronic acid needs to be combined with a water-loving lipid to truly hydrate the skin. If not applied in conjunction, the hyaluronic acid could actually be drying out your skin. Hyaluronic acid works by drawing moisture into the skin through its water-attracting (humectant) properties. But without a layer of moisturizer on top to act as a barrier (especially if your skin is already dry or you're in a climate with low humidity), the hyaluronic acid can actually draw moisture from your skin—hence the subsequent tightness. So it is best to apply your serum right after washing you face on a damp skin or by using right after your essence or toner!!! Also, a little tip, I stopped using towels and just letting my skin dry on its own after washing my face! It has helped me so much as towels retain dirt and bacteria. Plus, it reminds me to hurry and apply my HA right after before my skin dries 😉. These are by far some of my favorite hyaluronic Acid serums! I hope this helps! Affordable and Effective Skincare Anyone?
Affordable and Effective Skincare Anyone?
Let’s talk The Inkey List. I’ve been hearing about this brand for MONTHS and never really paid much attention, until recently. I started seeing people I really trust enjoying a lot of their products and thought, hm, maybe there is something to this. So, I asked the company for a skincare routine for me based on my type of skin and concerns. So far, these are the products I’ve tried from the routine and my thoughts. I’ve been incorporating 1 new product per week but I started with the basics all together, so the Bakuchiol, Brighten-i Eye Cream, Salicylic Acid Cleanser, and Hyaluronic Acid serum have been in rotation for about a month at this point and were the first 4 products I used together. Next I incorporated the PHA Toner, and lastly was the Vitamin C serum. •Bakuchiol - I like this a lot. It sinks right in and doesn’t leave a residue, but it isn’t quite hydrating enough for me. I do think I’ll need to incorporate an oil on top, but I don’t mind. The only negative I have with this so far is the packaging. I hate this packaging. The product is too thin for this kind of tube. •Brighten-i Eye Cream - I’ve seen nothing crazy with this, but I don’t see anything crazy with any eye cream. I do like this a lot though and I like the applicator. •Hyaluronic Acid - this feels very nice on the skin. It feels velvety on the skin and soaks right in for me. It leaves no residue and I’ve been enjoying it. I don’t know that it’s helping much with keeping my skin hydrated though. •PHA Toner - I think I’m liking this a lot. I feel like it’s helped my texture and made my face feel softer. It doesn’t seem to be causing any issues, but I think it is a little drying for me. A heavier moisturizer would solve this problem, I think. •Vitamin C Serum - I’ve only been using this for a little over a week and I’m uncertain about it. I do not like the smell and and it leaves my skin EXTREMELY sticky initially. Like, I could stick a spoon to my face and it would probably stay, sticky. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem to linger and sinks in after a few minutes. Even if there is a teensy bit of tackiness if I get impatient, after putting on a moisturizer it’s gone. •Salicylic Acid Cleanser - I feel like this does work well and is very gentle. It doesn’t irritate my skin or feel drying, so I really like it. It seems to help with blackheads a lot and with any active breakouts I have, so I’ve definitely been enjoying it. “NO FAIL” RETINOL ROUTINE - PM
“NO FAIL” RETINOL ROUTINE - PM
I shared earlier this week my “no fail” AM skincare routine the products seen in that post I’ve used time and time again. They’ve never let me down and along with the ones listed here, are repurchases that keep my skin happy and healthy! Milk MAKEUP - Vegan Milk Cleanser I like to use this cleanser when my face needs a little extra pampering. Milk Cleanser is super soft and gentle and leaves my face feeling very nourished. INDIE LEE - CoQ-10 Toner same as used in the AM. I'm from - Rice Toner I honestly cannot get enough of hydrating products, especially when I am using my retinal. I have probably five open at this time and will use them all or a few at a time. This Rice Toner is so soft and smooth. If you’re into essences or toners this is a must try! I splash a few drops into my hand and then pat it onto my face leaving it wet until I add.... THE inkey LIST - Hyaluronic Acid Serum I lock the Rice Toner in with HA. I am indoors most of the time, a bit of a recluse, but my skin still get very dry so I lock in the hydration first and end with the moisturizer! Medik8 - Crystal Retinal this is a bit expensive but well worth it to me because within weeks of use I saw significant changes. I’ve been asked my so many what I use for skincare as I have hardly any lines and I used to worship the sun with no sunscreen (⚠️) But I’ve been lucky and take very good care of my skin now. You only need a pea size amount of retinal for your face and add it to DRY skin. YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask last up is my new favorite (on my second bottle), the YTTP Dream Mask. You only need a small amount with this and I go through about two a year as I use it every night. It’s gentle enough to use nightly but if you’re using other treatments you may want to alternate nights (if you have sensitive skin as it has vitamin c). You can put a light layer of moisturizer on before applying this but for me, this is plenty. The Crystal Retinal I use is non-drying so I am good with just the mask. But if your retinol tends to dry your face, I’d recommend adding a light layer of moisturizer before the dream mask. ⭐️ That’s it! You could eliminate the 2 toners (Co-Q10 & Rice Toner) and simplify it down to 4 steps. I’ll be sharing my PM exfoliating routine soon! One of my favorites!!! I never thought I’d love exfoliating so much 😂 Much ❤️ my @cherie family! 🍒 #cheriecreator

MY MOST USED “NO FAIL” AM ROUTINE
MY MOST USED “NO FAIL” AM ROUTINE
The products you see have been products I’ve been using time and again for two years, around the time I got serious about my skincare life. These steps I never skip although I have added others or tried different brands. I will say again that I have used a more expensive version of Hyaluronic Acid and while it truly felt soft and comforting to my face, I don’t feel this is where my high dollars need to be spent. INDIE LEE - Brightening Cleanser best cleanser around! You can even leave it on longer and use it as a mask! This helps target dull, uneven textures, dark spots and pores. It’s a gel like texture. I am all about products that brighten my skin. INDIE LEE - CoQ-10 Toner next up is to tone and what better with one that will hydrate, soothe and protect your skin with the antioxidant coenzyme Q10 and Hyaluronic Acic! Plump that face up! I like to splash just a few drops of water on my face first then come in with Co-10. All we can do to help seal that hydration 💦 THE inkey LIST - Hyaluronic Acid Serum Then comes HA to really lock in that hydration. So may find it hard as people claim it can be “sticky” or “tacky” but I go right it after spraying my Co-Q10 and do a quick rub and then immediately tap it in. Then let it completely dry. If you don’t, you can have your following products pill, and believe me, that’s not fun! I believe everyone should have HA in their routine. There are so many variations out there at many different cost points but if you do your research and are comfortable using what works for you, go for it. Mine costs me $6.80 a month. I use it both am & pm. FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherry depicted in the picture as the cute little 🍒 is VCB. I am currently out and my order is taking much longer than I’d like. But I have probably used almost 10 different brands of vitamin C (in comments) and I’ll still be goin back to Farmacy. I love the light scent and I had seen results pretty quickly, never any side effects. TATCHA - The Dewy Skin Cream I have a handful of creams I do adore and I could really probably spend less than dear ole Tatcha, but oh I do so love this cream. It just makes my face so happy. It’s a bit richer but my mother who has oily skin loves it! If I am hanging inside - tbh that’s 90% of my life - I do a light amount and then follow up about 10 mins later with sunscreen. Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 I do wear sunscreen indoors although I’m never near direct light. Life of a migrainer! 🤯but I figure one can’t aver be too careful. Plus I have ones open unfinished from the summer. But it is my stance that, yes, you should weat sunscreen indoors. It’s your best line of defense! Unseen Sunscreen makes me feel as if I have nothing on! My most used, never fail AM routine! ❤️ @cheriefam 🍒

💧 The Moisturiser Battle is Real
💧 The Moisturiser Battle is Real
🤷🏻‍♀️ Loving both the DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream and the CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream They both seem to be doing the job of hydrating and strengthening the skin! I’m a Cerave newbie, and this is my 3rd jar of the DE cream DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream Polypeptides and Amino Acids strengthen the skin while giving a good dose of moisture. It does not feel heavy, and I love the pump style packaging! It’s the expensive option, but might be better for those with acne prone skin CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream Ceramides and Niacinamide are also super beneficial, and i feel like it’s on the heavier side but I don’t mind that. I love how it’s so inexpensive, but I highly suggest getting the one with the pump included because I feel I’m contaminating the product everytime! No breakouts so far, it’s been about 2 weeks REVOLUTION - 2% Hyaluronic Acid Serum Only $10, and word on the street is that it’s less sticky than The Ordinary. I can definitely see my skin plump up and lines less noticeable! I will be trying THE inkey LIST - Hyaluronic Acid Serumafterwards because it’s such a well loved product!
