Protecting Your Skin
🌼 I have combo skin leaning more dry (probably because I live in Southern California which is essentially a coastal desert and also full of smog and sun so I need all the protection I can get) 🌼 My skin is currently in a pretty good place where it falls more in the normal range but I do still get occasional breakouts and bouts of oiliness and dryness 🌼 Here’s some of my favorite products for protecting my skin: 🌼 Krave Beauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser: This is a great affordable gel cleanser that’s packed with antioxidants. Anything which Matcha in it is going to be packed with antioxidants. Hemp is also a great ingredient for keeping the skin soothed and hydrated. I like to use this as a morning cleanse or a second evening cleanse. 🌼 Youth to the People Suberberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask: This stuff is magic. It contains Maqui Berry which is actually the most antioxidant rich fruit in the world as well as vitamin C and moisturizing Squalane. I use this at night after my moisturizer and it leaves my skin feeling so soft and bright. My favorite mask of all time. 🌼 Farmacy Very Cherry Bright Serum: This is an awesome vitamin C serum to protect your skin during the day from pollutants, UV rays, blue light, etc. I really like this for my combo skin because it’s a lightweight gel that contains four different types of hyaluronic acid and keeps my skin hydrated and plump but not oily or sticky. I use this every morning after my toners and before oils/moisturizers. 🌼 Purito Green Level Safe Sun: Never forget sunscreen. It’s the absolute most important product you can use to protect your skin. I love this because it’s affordable, lightweight, and doesn’t leave a white cast. I apply this after moisturizer in the mornings (and don’t forget to reapply every 2 hours)

Top Tips for Treating Hyperpigmentation!
I have combination, oily skin that is prone to breakouts, the breakouts lead to hyperpigmentation which is my biggest skin concern. I've been dealing with hyperpigmentation for what seems like forever and have learned some important tips when it comes to it! Tip #1: Use SPF religiously! For anyone dealing with hyperpigmentation this is the most important tip because the sun's UV rays can cause pigmentation to darken. SPF is also essential because many treatments for hyperpigmentation, like acids, can cause the skin to be even more sensitive to the sun. My top SPFs are: elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 Supergoop! - 100% Mineral Smooth & Poreless Matte Screen SPF 40 SKINCEUTICALS - Physical Fusion Uv Defense SPF 50 Tip #2: Use Vitamin C in your routine! Vitamin C is an antioxidant that lightens dark spots, it also contains an enzyme that helps to prevent melanin production - effectively preventing hyperpigmentation! My Vitamin C products are: SKINCEUTICALS - Phloretin Cf FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherry URBAN SKIN Rx - Even Tone Smooth & Glow Enzyme Mask Tip #3: Niacinamide is a powerhouse at fighting pigmentation! Similar to vitamin C, niacinamide fights and prevents hyperpigmentation. It also helps to treat acne which for many of us is the main cause of our hyperpigmentation! My favorite products with niacinamide are: PETER THOMAS ROTH - Pro Strength Niacinamide Discoloration Treatment THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Oil Control Serum Tip #4: Add a retinoid to your routine! Retinoids speed up the cell turnover rate, which for pigmentation means it helps to fade dark spots faster. I use a tretinoin, which is a prescription you can get from your dermatologist, but there are other great options like retinol! Here are my favorite retinol products: SKINCEUTICALS - Retinol 0.5 Retinol Night Cream DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel Additional Tips: Acid is your friend, but don't overdo it! Protect your moisture barrier! Healthy skin will heal the fastest! If your breakouts are hormonal, you may need to do some research into your diet! I've cut dairy and eggs because my body doesn't tolerate them and they were leading to hormonal breakouts.

VITAMIN C PRODUCTS
🍊 Let’s talk about one of my favorite skincare ingredients: Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that works to firm and brighten the skin while protecting against environmental stressors. Here are some of the Vitamin C products currently in my rotation and some pros and cons. (Left to right) 🍊 Farmacy Very Cherry Bright Serum is a blend of four Vitamin C derivatives and four types of hyaluronic acid. This is a great serum if you are sensitive to vitamin C and prefer a gentler derivative. I’m not sensitive to vitamin C but I find this to be just as effective as my abscorbic acid serums. I love the texture of this because it’s not thick or sticky at all like some vitamin c serums can be. This lightweight gel sinks in quickly and leaves my skin soft and plump thanks to all the hyaluronic acid. If you have dry, dehydrated, or sensitive skin you will love this vitamin C. 🍊 Sunday Riley C.E.O. Glow is a facial oil containing the Vitamin C derivative THD Abscorbate as well as other brightening ingredients such as turmeric, ginger root extract, and bisabolol in a blend of botanical oils. Another great option for those who may be sensitive to vitamin C because this product does use a derivative and is buffered by the oil base. I like this when I’m dry or traveling and find it gives me beautifully glowy and soft skin. However this is a little rich for me on a daily basis. If you are dry or live in a dry climate your skin will probably love this. Wouldn’t recommend for oily skin though. 🍊 Drunk Elephant C Firma Day Serum is a 15% Abscorbic Acid serum and is the most potent of the three this product also contains firming peptides and enzymatic exfoliators. This one helps so much with brightening my skin and lightening hyperpigmentation the texture is a little bit thick and sticky but sinks in relatively quickly. If you are sensitive to vitamin C this will probably not be the one for you but if not it’s amazing.

brand spotlight: farmacy
Ugh. Where do I start with this brand? I had a hard time picking a favorite product, and I don’t hate the one I picked for my least favorite, I’d just not purchase it for myself! I’ve been using farmacy since I got into skincare through an Ipsy subscription. I tried honey drop out and fell in love! Since then, I’ve placed countless orders and tried most things they make. When I love a brand, I really love them — and I support them! FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherry — key ingredients: acerola cherry, vitamin c, hyaluronic acid — claims: help dullness/uneven texture, fine lines and wrinkles — price: $62 for 1oz — my thoughts: First, it smells like cherries; but it’s not overly sweet and it fades quickly upon application! I have noticed a reduction of breakouts since I started using this, and and my skin tone overall looks brighter! Doesn’t irritate my skin as some VITC’s do, but is kind of soothing. It has kind of a juicy texture, not watery but not thick either. I know it’s a little pricy but I will probably exclusively use this unless I am given something else to test out. I am a Farmacy loyalist for sure, and this is one of my favorite products from them! My skin looks and feels so good when I use this. I use it in the morning (always with spf!) FARMACY - Honey Butter Beeswax Lip Balm — key ingredients: honey, beeswax, cupuacu butter — claims: 100% natural, moisturize, condition, prep lips — price: $10 for .12oz — my thoughts: I don’t hate this, it just doesn’t provide the amount of hydration I want from a lip balm. I’m not prone to super chapped lips, but I hate reapplying stuff mainly because I get so busy at work and don’t have access to my things at all times, so I don’t want to stop what I’m doing to reapply lip balm. It has a light honey scent/taste, but not overly honey like most of their products. I just opened this recently, and I like it. I think I’ll keep it in my bag or maybe at work for emergencies, but it’s not one I think I’ll reach for often.

Farmacy Very Cherry Bright 15% Vit C Serum ($62) What it is: A potent 15 percent vitamin C serum powered by four types of vitamin C and hyaluronic acid to visibly brighten, firm, and hydrate skin without irritation. For: Normal, Dry, Combination, and Oily Skins. Skincare Concerns: Dullness and Uneven Texture, Fine Lines and Wrinkles, and Loss of Firmness and Elasticity. Texture/Consistency: Lightweight Serum. My Experience: I have been using Very Cherry every morning for about 3 solid months. For starters, the pump packaging is so cute and hygienic. But I try to store it away from light because exposure to light can weaken vit C and some parts of the packaging are see-through. The lightweight, pinkish-redish, silky texture is my favorite to be honest. It glides over the skin so beautiful and sinks in immediately, leaving a silky finish but not greasy nor tacky. The consistency is perfection to be honest since it can work on any skin type and feels extremely luxurious. It smells exactly like cherry flavor candy that dissipates quickly. The blend of different forms of vitamin C (acerola cherry extract, 3-glyceryl ascorbate, 3-0 ethyl ascorbic acid and ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate) help brighten the skin and minimize fine lines as claimed. It also contains hyaluronic acid derivatives that help with plumping and smoothing the skin as well as hydration. I do notice brightness, smoothness, plumpness and hydrated skin. Also, my skin has a healthy glow since I have been using it. On the other hand, in terms of hyperpigmentation I have not noticed any difference, but it is normal since my medium (brown) skin only seems significant improvement with the pure form of vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) and this serum contains derivatives of vit C. I do love that this serum delivers an effective concentration of skin brightness vit C. Therefore, people that are reactive to the pure form of vitamin C and/or their main concerns are brightness, hydration and getting the antioxidants benefits of a vitamin C serum would truly benefit from this serum the most. And I would definitely recommend it if your main concern is not hyperpigmentation. Big congrats to Farmacy for doing an excellent job with the consistency of this product!
