HOW I FIGHT ACNE WITH MY SKINCARE ROUTINE
Acne comes from so many different reasons. But generally there are a few tricks that really help to prevent and treat them. SALICYLIC ACID: PAULA'S CHOICE - Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliator Known for: combating whiteheads & blackheads by penetrating into the pores of the skin and unclogging them This exfoliating toner is amazing at preventing future breakouts because it’s so effective at unclogging pores and keeping them clear. My blackheads have also diminished so much since using this toner and I definitely can’t turn back. It’s quite strong so even I don’t use it every day and night. I’ll take it out only when I feel like my skin is getting congested (around 1-2x a week). AZELAIC ACID: PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Azelaic Acid Booster Known for: gently exfoliating the surface and refining texture of the skin This is a great booster to mix in with moisturizer whenever I feel like my skin is breaking out a lot and very congested. It’s not super strong especially mixed into the last step of my skincare routine but definitely helps to smooth texture. RETINOL: SKINCEUTICALS - Retinol 0.5 Retinol Night Cream Known for: speeding up our skin’s natural cell turnover to reveal newer and clearer skin I’ve used a retinol for more than a year now and I’ve seen the biggest improvement in my skin regarding breakouts and texture. I use it as the last step of my skincare routine every other day now and it’s just a great way to keep my skin healthy over the longterm. NIACINAMIDE: THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Oil Control Serum Known for: helping to control oil production by renewing and restoring the surface of the skin against moisture loss Especially with living in a humid climate currently, my skin has been freaking out a lot. But this serum helps so much with promoting my skin to be balanced and self-regulating. My T-zone doesn’t get as oily but doesn’t feel dry either! SUNSCREEN: SKINCEUTICALS - Physical Fusion Uv Defense SPF 50 Okay sunscreen doesn’t DIRECTLY correlate with breakouts, although, there are definitely some that can cause breakouts for some people, mainly physical ones (so find one that doesn’t break you out)! This sunscreen doesn’t break me out and in fact helps with my skin durinf breakouts so much because it protects my skin from hyperpigmentation! The scarring that comes after a breakout can be just as annoying as the breakout itself but sunscreen helps so much to speed up the recovering and healing process! Do you have more tips for preventing breakouts to share?

THE RETINOL FOR ALL BEGINNERS
SKINCEUTICALS - Retinol 0.5 Retinol Night Cream Retinols always sound so scary, right?! But as someone who has now used retinol for 6 months, the difference I’ve seen in my skin is incomparable to any other skincare product I use. This product was my introduction to retinol. SkinCeutical’s retinol cream in 0.5 potency never irritated or dried out my skin. It’s not the gentlest or most potent out of the three retinols that SkinCeuticals offers and but one of the more gentle retinols on the market as a whole. When I first started using this product, I added it in to my routine once a week, and then once every 6 days, 5 days, 4 days, 3 days and then 2 days. I determined the pace by observing my skin and looking out for any reactions or dehydration from the retinol. Everyone’s skin is different so listening to your skin and learning how to recognize certain signs in your skin is very important. The texture is just a medium-thick cream that you squeeze out of a metal tube. It’s not particularly hydrating but I found that if I pair a hydrating oil or cream with it (and making sure to apply it once the retinol cream has really sunk into my skin) that my skin never gets dry. The results I got from using this product included less breakouts (I now get occasional breakouts only around the time of the month), smoother skin texture, refined pores and the clarity and tone of my skin improved. I have recommended this product to many of my friends because of what I’ve seen it do to my skin. It’s definitely worth the price tag because of the results and because a little goes a long way! I’m still on my first tube and am halfway there to finishing it (after using it for 6 months)!

Top Tips for Treating Hyperpigmentation!
I have combination, oily skin that is prone to breakouts, the breakouts lead to hyperpigmentation which is my biggest skin concern. I've been dealing with hyperpigmentation for what seems like forever and have learned some important tips when it comes to it! Tip #1: Use SPF religiously! For anyone dealing with hyperpigmentation this is the most important tip because the sun's UV rays can cause pigmentation to darken. SPF is also essential because many treatments for hyperpigmentation, like acids, can cause the skin to be even more sensitive to the sun. My top SPFs are: elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 Supergoop! - 100% Mineral Smooth & Poreless Matte Screen SPF 40 SKINCEUTICALS - Physical Fusion Uv Defense SPF 50 Tip #2: Use Vitamin C in your routine! Vitamin C is an antioxidant that lightens dark spots, it also contains an enzyme that helps to prevent melanin production - effectively preventing hyperpigmentation! My Vitamin C products are: SKINCEUTICALS - Phloretin Cf FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherry URBAN SKIN Rx - Even Tone Smooth & Glow Enzyme Mask Tip #3: Niacinamide is a powerhouse at fighting pigmentation! Similar to vitamin C, niacinamide fights and prevents hyperpigmentation. It also helps to treat acne which for many of us is the main cause of our hyperpigmentation! My favorite products with niacinamide are: PETER THOMAS ROTH - Pro Strength Niacinamide Discoloration Treatment THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Oil Control Serum Tip #4: Add a retinoid to your routine! Retinoids speed up the cell turnover rate, which for pigmentation means it helps to fade dark spots faster. I use a tretinoin, which is a prescription you can get from your dermatologist, but there are other great options like retinol! Here are my favorite retinol products: SKINCEUTICALS - Retinol 0.5 Retinol Night Cream DIFFERIN - DIFFERIN Acne Treatment Gel Additional Tips: Acid is your friend, but don't overdo it! Protect your moisture barrier! Healthy skin will heal the fastest! If your breakouts are hormonal, you may need to do some research into your diet! I've cut dairy and eggs because my body doesn't tolerate them and they were leading to hormonal breakouts.

Skincare Line-up: Combo Skin Nighttime🌜(simple)
When my skin is already looking and feeling pretty good, I like to simplify my routine a little just to not over compromise my skin barrier. This routine really helps me nourish, treat and target any skin issues without layering too many products. Background info: My skin is combination and acne-prone. It’s also pretty tough so I don’t get irritation from “harsher” actives and ingredients! SKINCEUTICALS - Hydrating B5 Gel My go-to Hyaluronic Acid serum! It’s my favorite hydrating product because the Hyaluronic Acid seriously plumps up the skin and brings hydration to the surface of the skin. I apply a few drops of this on my palms and press into the skin. SKINCEUTICALS - Retinol 0.5 Retinol Night Cream Retinol! This night cream contains 0.5% pure retinol which helps to promote cell turnover, improves the appearance of lines, wrinkles, discoloration and pores, and reduces breakouts! This particular cream is formulated with a Soothing Complex that calms the skin with Bisabolol and Boswellia Serrata Extract which soothes and comforts the skin. I apply two pea-size amounts on my finger tips, rub them together and press into my skin (focusing on problem areas). THE inkey LIST - Brighten-i Eye Cream Eye cream is one of those things that I have a love/hate relationship with. It’s undecided if I really see a difference as technically my serums and moisturizers should do the same thing- but I recently started using this one from the Inkey List that has brightening properties. I haven’t seen much brightening yet but it has a very lightweight, hydrating formula that I like. YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream with Ashwagandha + Reishi To lock in all the active ingredients in my toners and serums, I love this cream from Youth To The People because it feels thick and nourishing. The key ingredients in this cream include Squalane, Ashwagandha, and Fermented Reishi which together helps boost skin hydration, minimizes risk of clogged pores, reduces visible signs of fatigue and detoxifies and combats signs of aging. THE inkey LIST - Rosehip Oil Rosehip Oil is one of the most nourishing antioxidant oils. This 100% pure rosehip oil helps to promote softer, smoother skin and the fatty acids help to nourish. I use this as my last step to seal in all my products because it’s so emollient. It always leaves my skin GLOWING✨

VINTNER'S DAUGHTER - Active Botanical Serum This is a powerhouse serum full of botanical oils and extracts that really help the skin. There’s a full list of ingredients on their website but this serum basically heals, balances, fights free-radicals with antioxidants, strengthens with ceramides, nourishes with fatty acids and brightens with vitamins to renew, repair, protect and tone skin. Like what else could I ask for?! I use their push/press method to apply! RETINOIDS: TIPS FOR FIRST TIME USERS
Hello👋everyone! If you are someone who’s interested in starting Retinoids or just needs to understand more about it then this post is for you!!! 😀 Retinols are topical treatments that help stimulate cell turnover, bringing healthier, more smoother and radiant✨skin to the surface. Retinoids is the umbrella☂️term for any cream derived from vitamin A basically! Here’s what you need to do: - Start with a low strength concentration (say 0.3%) and let your skin adjust to it before increasing the concentration to 0.5% and then further to 1%. - Buffer with moisturizer by either mixing retinol directly with a moisturizer or applying moisturizer first and then adding retinoids. - Use SPF 30🧴or more during the day. - Start by using once a week for two weeks and then increase to 2 times for upto 2-3 weeks. Increase gradually! - Use with Niacinamide as it can make retinol easy to use and help in minimizing skin irritation! - Avoid putting retinol around eyes👀, mouth and upper lips as it can potentially cause irritation and dryness. Follow these⬆️ tips if you’ve just started your Retinoid journey to make your transition much smoother! Here are the two Retinol products I use: SKINCEUTICALS - Retinol 0.5 Retinol Night Cream REVOLUTION - 0.5% Retinol Super Serum with Rosehip Seed Oil Let me know in the comments if you’ve got questions about Retinoids and I’ll be more than happy 😊 to answer! 💕 DISCLAIMER: I’m a licensed esthetician but not a doctor!
