A dermatologist’s recs for maskne 😷✨
Let’s talk maskne, the most common chief complaint I’m seeing these days. There are many different causes ranging from acne mechanica (acne caused by irritation/pressure from the masks) to actually being allergic to the mask material. Consider seeing a dermatologist if the following tips/products don’t seem to help: If possible wear a clean surgical mask daily however with PPE shortage, this may not be possible. I use a n95 + surgical mask at work and a breathable, cotton mask outside of work. Avoid unnecessary makeup, don’t forget sunscreen, and don’t skip out on moisturizing. Whether you have dry or oily skin, you still need moisturizer. Oily/combination skin: use a benzoyl peroxide cleanser, a gentle retinoid such as adapalene gel, and spot treatment with either BP or salicylic acid. Start slow and increase as tolerated. Dry/sensitive skin: use a gentle cleanser, gentle moisturizer, and if tolerated consider a spot treatment with either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Consider slowly adding a gentle retinoid like adapalene gel two to three times a week while using adequate moisturizer. What are your favorite types of masks/maskne treatments?

My skincare detox!!
Hey awesome people!! It's been a while since I last posted because I was on a skincare detox (and ridiculously busy). Sensitive vs senstized skin: If your skin feels like it burns with the mildest products (for me, even spf and lactic acid) when it's usually not this sensitive - chances are your skin is getting sensitized. Sensitive skin is something we're born with, sensitization happens due to external factors. It's not necessarily due to just rigorous skincare but also external factors like stress, diet, UV exposure etc. So while skin detox is great, also remember to take care of yourself 💜❤️ What and why? I'm no skincare expert by a long shot. I keep things mostly simple and I believe we can tell what our skin needs. I started serious skincare around January this year (I know, suuuper late but better than never lol). My skin before that was mostly normal with bouts of dryness but no major sensitivity. So I was wondering why after skincare, my skin felt like it was hurting when it should feel better. Answer: I needed to give my skin break once in a while! The products, especially the ones with active ingredients, can sensitize skin - even if it is not already sensitive. So I took a break for about 3 weeks. I don't think you need to break for that long, I suppose 10ish days should be enough. I just got lazy to start again. BUT - I can definitely see a difference. For example, now if I use the The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, it tingles less than before! How did I detox? Again, not saying this is the only way. I stripped down to basics. Cleanse, moisturize and spf. That's all. In detail: AM: Cleanse with either DERMA•E - Anti-Wrinkle Cleanser or SOAP & GLORY - Face Soap And Clarity Facial Wash (nothing technically wrong with either cleansers, they're both a bit drying with a bit of fragrance and I'm still on the hunt for The One™) Moisturizer: #Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Water Gel SPF: Australian Gold - Botanical Tinted Face Sunscreen SPF 50 PM: Double cleanse (because of spf): BANILA CO - Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm Original (love this Btw) And then DERMA•E - Anti-Wrinkle Cleanser (soap and glory is too harsh for double cleanse) Moisturize: FIRST AID BEAUTY - Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration And that's it! No actives, no exfoliation - just the bare mininum. Info: The selfies are somewhere around week 2 of my detox (not a selfie person so I probably suck at taking selfies but oh well 🤷🏻♀️) Hope this helps!! Cheers ✨

A Simple Morning Routine with a View 🏙
Since moving to Honolulu, the name of the game has been hydration! Despite what you would think about tropical climates, it’s not unusual for hot and humid weather to dry you out with UV rays and dehydration. So I’ve really whittled down my morning routine to 3 steps (and a coffee, of course!) CLEANSE: MARIO BADESCU - Enzyme Cleansing Gel I’ve been using this cleanser every morning for the last month and I saw results after the first wash! It’s a super gentle non-foaming cleanser claims to gently buff away oil and impurities while papaya and grapefruit extracts brighten. My skin actually glows after cleansing with this! It’s sulfate, pthalate and paraben free, making it the perfect morning cleanser for my dry sensitive babes! Highly recommend this as a staple on your shelf. TONE: fresh - Rose Deep Hydration Toner I just bought this toner, but I am loving it so far! Most toners leave my skin feeling tight and itchy and this does none of that! It’s gentle and my skin feels nice and soft and smooth when I use it, plus it smells amazing! Rose is one of the few scents that doesn’t irritate my allergies, so I’m definitely going to make it a regular. HYDRATE: Neutrogena - Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel Moisturizer This moisturizer has lived on my shelf since I was 16 years old and I don’t plan on getting rid of it any time soon. Though I admit it falls by the wayside sometimes, it’s tried-and-true for me and when i need a reset I always go back to it. It’s so lightweight and soothing, the product sinks right into my skin with zero residue and leaves behind a smooth, soft surface. It’s perfect when my face is feeling just a little dry and needs a mid day refresh. I usually have to put a layer on, wait 5 min, and apply a second time to my cheeks because the formula is so lightweight and I need just a little more hydration. But for only $15 it’s well worth it!

the time has come... REVIEW MY ROUTINE!
hey Cherie fam! i finally decided it was time to post my daily/weekly routine!! i’ve curated this routine over a looooong period of time, and i think i’ve almost got it right! so here it is: TWICE DAILY: i like to double cleanse, so i always start with the FATCO - Cleansing Oil for Normal/Combo Skin i’ve used this oil on and off for the last few years, and i’ve really been loving it lately! it moisturizes and helps remove makeup, dirt, and any oils my skin has produced during the day. then i go with my Neutrogena - Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser i like this cleanser a lot because i feel like it actually cleanses my skin, unlike a lot of cleansers i’ve tried that only feel like they’re cleaning the top layer of my skin. this one gets deep! next, i use a few drops of the no b.s. - Vitamin C + E Serum i really like this serum because i feel like it’s helped even out my skin tone and texture and it doesn’t take forever to soak into my skin! as the packaging recommends, i leave this to sit for about 5 minute for moving on to my next step. however, during those 5 minutes, i’ll apply my VERSED - VACATION EYES Brightening Eye Gel this is the FIRST under eye product i’ve ever used that REALLY WORKS to get rid of my dark circles!! magic in a tube if you ask me. after those 5 minutes have passed, i’ll use 3-5 spritzes of the INDIE LEE - CoQ-10 Toner this is the newest product in my routine, but i’m in LOVE! i’ve been looking for a great toner for a while now, and this one, which happened to be a gift, is so great! it moisturizes and sets my skin without leaving me feeling stripped or sticky. finally, i moisturize with my all time fave: Neutrogena - Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel Moisturizer this moisturizer keeps my skin hydrated without being sticky or oily. i would highly recommend for those with dry, tires skin! EVERY MORNING: in the morning, i like to use the Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Water Gel Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 it’s a really great, really affordable SPF that doesn’t make my skin feel greasy or grimy. ONCE A WEEK: i’ve seen a lot of mixed opinions about The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution , but i’m a fan! i think it leaves my skin feeling great, and not stripped at all which is pretty common for me with most chemical exfoliants. i usually use this peel after cleansing, but before the rest of my routine. so, what do you think?? i’d love to hear your compliments, comments, and critiques on my routine.

Soothing Sleep Mask for Oily Skin!
LANEIGE - Special Care Water Sleeping Mask I have oily acne prone skin and I was on the lookout for a nourishing night cream that wouldn’t break me out. I am a huge fan of lavender scents, so when I saw this product I really wanted to give it a try! This is a super light gel formula with the gentle smell of lavender, hyalauronic acid, hunza apricot, and evening primrose. Its advertised as a nighttime mask to be used along with a moisturizer, but I use this as a moisturizer in the morning and night without issue. It’s extremely cooling when applied to the skin and a little goes a long way. The packaging feels expensive and hefty without being overly heavy. I think this is an amazing product for those with oily skin looking for a bit of hydration, but this just isn’t enough for dry skin. The results aren’t life changing, but it makes my skin just look happy, healthy, and a tad glowy in the morning without making me oily. I’ve also had no increased breakouts which is huge. I think this formulation is really similar to the Neutrogena - Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel Moisturizer , but it’s actually cheaper! The Hydroboost retails at $12.64/oz, while the Laneige Sleeping Mask retails for $10.86/oz. The Laneige mask also has a less intense scent to it, but does leave a slight stickiness on the face (which can be annoying to sleep with if you’re a side sleeper like me) which the Hydroboost doesn’t have. Overall, I’m happy with this product and will use it up completely, but if I could find something similar without the stickiness I would purchase that. Hope this helps my oily gals! #CherieCreator #laneige #sleepingmask #moisturizer #lavender #sleep #purple #oilyskin

baby’s first skincare routine
taking advantage of quarantine to finally put together a grown-up skincare routine! i have oily skin and recurring acne, so i’m still trying to figure out how to curb breakouts. anybody else like these products? or have any other recommendations? 💕 • CLEANSER • CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser this just feels good to put on. silky smooth, clean, refreshing. GARNIER - SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Cleanser & Waterproof Makeup Remover i only use this when i’ve been wearing makeup, which hasn’t been much lately, but it does the trick. it’s also good for when i feel like double cleansing at night. • TONER • THAYERS - Witch Hazel Astringent love this for helping minimize my pores. sometimes i swab it on mid-day if my skin is feeling extra oily. • ACNE TREATMENT • Neutrogena - On-the-Spot Acne Treatment i’ve been using this for a million years and it’s great for getting acne to disappear as quickly as possible. just an awesome little spot treatment. Clearasil - Rapid Rescue Deep Treatment Wash this is a nighttime acne wash and it seems to work pretty well. it does have an intense chemical smell, which isn’t my favorite. • MOISTURIZER • Neutrogena - Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel Moisturizer i love this stuff. my roommate thinks it’s an alien serum since it’s so pretty and blue. putting this on at night just makes my skin feel so hydrated and fancy. plus, it’s super light, which is a godsend for oily skin. Neutrogena - Facial Moisturizer i put this on in the morning because i know i need some spf, but it still leaves me feeling oily even though there’s no oil in it! still hunting for an spf moisturizer that doesn’t smell so sunscreen-y and feel heavy in my skin.
