Why You Should Be Exfoliating Once a Week 🖤
Why You Should Be Exfoliating Once a Week 🖤
Exfoliation is the process where we remove dead skin from the surface of our skin. It is so important to remove these dead skin cells so they don’t build up. If they do it’s very easy for sebum to get trapped underneath without being able to escape which in turn causes break outs. It also creates a barrier where your products don’t properly penetrate the skin making them less effective than they could be. I have oily yet dehydrated acne prone skin so my favorite way to exfoliate is to use Glycolic Acid. It is an AHA which helps loosen up the bonds that keep dead skin cells on the face. It also has the ability to really get down in the follicle and loosen up any built up sebum that could lead to break outs making it great for oily or acne prone skin. So far my favorite product with this ingredient is the StriVectin - Glycolic Skin Reset Mask . It’s really pricy at $59 but I’ve seen really good results using this weekly. ALWAYS read the instructions on the back when working with acids. I only leave this mask on for 5 minutes once a week. The first time I used this it felt a little uncomfortable but it’s something your skin has to get used to if you’re new to acids (I would also always patch test when using acids). I’ve been using this weekly for months (a little goes a long way) and I barely have break outs anymore. A lot of texture has left my face and it’s super smooth. Another cheaper option is the pixi - Glow Tonic and the pixi - GLOW Glycolic Boost Brightening Face Mask Sheet . This is a leave on treatment I would do after my cleanser. They advertise it for daily use but I wouldn’t purely for the fact this dried my face out if I used it daily. I did see decent results with it but it wasn’t worth the continued use. It also has a lot of fragrance as well that I’m not a fan of for leave on products. If you have sensitive skin a more gentle option is the GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon + AHA Glow Sleeping Mask . I absolutely love this for night time. If you have oily skin like me you can get away with using this as your moisturizer. If you don’t and still want to use it I would recommend this be the last step before your moisturizer so it can still penetrate the skin and your moisturizer locks the product in. It’s a very unique textured gel moisturizer. For me personally it doesn’t feel sticky or tacky once it’s absorbed but you do have to work the product in til it is absorbed. It’s super gentle and can be used nightly. It does have fragrance (which smells like amazing jolly ranchers) but with its Clean At Sephora seal it has less than 1% fragrance which I’m okay with unlike the Pixi Toner. There are definitely other exfoliating acids out there (like lactic or malic) but for oily, acne prone skin I prefer glycolic. If you have any questions about acids please let me know 🖤 and always patch test before you use them as well as read the instructions!

pixi - GLOW Glycolic Boost Brightening Face Mask Sheet Product Functions: Herbal extracts, collagen, peptides, glycolic acid and more help brighten and improve skin elasticity! Product Type concerns: Safe for all skin types! Super short and clean ingredient list. And that is saying a lot because I typically steer clear of some pixie products due to fragrances they use, however this one seems good! Texture/Consistency: This was hard to photograph, as it is a sheet mask! However the liquid the mask is soaked in is super hydrating. Bit more viscous than water, but a watery texture! Thoughts: I love that this is easy to find! This is one of my go tos! I’m a big fan of sheet masks! They help me get the moisture/hydration my skin craves. Especially in winter! I have many more I need/want to try, so I’m not repurchasing these yet..however I definitely will! Great, easy to find mask for anyone!

Battle of the Glycolic Mask 🖤 Wash Off vs Sheet
Battle of the Glycolic Mask 🖤 Wash Off vs Sheet
Exfoliation is everything! Personally, I prefer chemical exfoliators over physical ones. They are a lot more gentle on the skin and more effective! They help slough off those dead skin cells so your products are more effective. They also get rid of the places dirt, debris, and sebum hid under and clean out the pores so you’re less acne prone. With having oily skin glycolic acid is my favorite. This one removes the outer most layer of dead skin to reveal brighter, fresher skin. It’s used to treat scarring, hyperpigmentation, and signs of aging. My favorite glycolic acid product is the StriVectin - Glycolic Skin Reset Mask . This mask has a light, cream consistency that you apply to the face, leave on for 5 minutes (Seriously. No longer. I always set a timer), and wash off. I feel like this is one of the stronger products I’ve used. The first time my face was a little red (but faded quickly) but as I continued to use it weekly it wasn’t anymore. You just have to be careful to only leave it on for 5 minutes because you don’t want to chemically burn your face. It’s always left my face smooth, brighter, and has helped get rid of a lot of hyperpigmentation I have from healed acne break outs. It’s quite expensive though at $59 but I do find it’s worth it. I’ve yet to find a product that’s so effective. You only need a little bit and I’ve had this for months and I’ve barely made a dent. While going through my skincare stock pile I came across some pixi - GLOW Glycolic Boost Brightening Face Mask Sheet I had. I wanted to give them a shot since I had had them so long. This mask comes in a 3 pack for $10. This claims the same as the Strivectin, to exfoliate the skin to bring forth a brighter, more even complexion. It’s in a sheet mask form and was easy to apply onto the skin. It does have a weird soapy smell which I’m not a fan of. After 15 minutes I removed it but I still had product left on my face that hadn’t absorbed. I’m not the hugest fan of these because it didn’t really do much for my skin. I didn’t see much of a difference and in order to see a difference I would have to spend so much on masks in order to do it weekly. My skin felt the same whereas the Strivectin I can definitely see and feel how soft my skin is. Even though the Strivectin is more expensive I would recommend it more. It’s a stronger, more effective formula and in the long run will save your more money because you can get more out of the bottle than you can the masks. I also prefer the mask form compared to the sheet mask because it’s quicker and less messy. 5 minutes and you’re done compared to the sheet mask where it’s 15 minutes, you have to lay down or it slides off, and you have all that extra packaging to dispose of.
