Ingredient Breakdown: Peptides
Ingredient Breakdown: Peptides
Collagen is a protein made up of amino acids, imparting bounce and firmness. But collagen can be broken down by free radicals (hello, oxidizing fragrance/volatile essential oil compounds), smoking, UV rays, and age. Age contributes to collagen loss also because your body makes less collagen peptides after some time in your 20s. Topical collagen-containing products don’t work, as collagen molecules are too big to pass through the epidermis. Instead, use peptides to help it act younger and make more collagen! Peptides (also made up of amino acids) are small enough to get to the dermis where collagen is made. In response, skin should start making more peptides to form more collagen. Copper peptides are considered particularly beneficial, though the main benefit over normal peptides is their wound healing capability, making them wonderful for those with acne, on top of their anti-aging benefit. DRUNK ELEPHANT - Protini Polypeptide Cream contains 9 varieties of peptides, including copper peptides, as well as a variety of amino acids, fatty acids, and humectants. I love this gel-cream, it’s wonderful as a multifaceted moisturizer that is light enough for oily skin and helps fight signs of aging. PAULA'S CHOICE - Peptide Booster contains 8 peptides, amino acids, fatty acids, and a variety of humectants. No copper peptides, instead incorporating a variety of antioxidants, helping to contribute to the calmness of skin and prevent free radical-induced breakdown of collagen. An amazing anti-aging serum with a texture that sits between creamy and silky, sinking in quickly and giving my skin quite a bit of plumpness. This would be the best of the bunch for a multifaceted anti-aging peptide product. The Ordinary - "Buffet" + Copper Peptides 1% contains seven peptides -one of which is a copper peptide- plus a variety of amino acids and hyaluronic acid. It’s a simple yet effective serum that is a bit tacky and smells of metal, but the results are worth it. Applying it to a scab/large acne lesion nightly speeds along its healing noticeably- plus I see less hyperpigmentation develop afterwards. I can’t recommend this enough as a budget-friendly entry into peptide serums!

Which peptide is for you ❓
Which peptide is for you ❓
Peptides are one of the best anti aging ingredients out there. Unfortunately there isn’t too much scientific studies yet but the ones that have been conducted have been very positive. The great thing is that there tons of peptide options for different steps in your routine or different concerns which means you can try out different options. The Ordinary - "Buffet" + Copper Peptides 1% This is an anti aging power house with a combination of peptides, including copper peptides that are proven to be widely effective. This serum also improves over all skin texture including fading acne scars. THE inkey LIST - Hepta-Peptide Anti-Aging Serum This is a creamier serum that feels soft on the skin and has a variety of peptides. Mature Skin Night Routine
Mature Skin Night Routine
So with al the products out there, I enjoy shaking it up and trying new things!!! I have begun a new routine!! DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil this is my start. It does an excellent job of removing al my makeup, without striping my mature skin of moisture. Murad - Renewing Cleansing Cream I use this as my second cleanse. I love the cream to foam feel. It too does an excellent job at keeping my skin hydrated. The Ordinary - "Buffet" + Copper Peptides 1% I use this every other day! I rotate this with the next product. I have been using this for about a month and I am loving how my skin is responding. The Ordinary - Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion I use this alternating days of the “buffet”. This is a thicker consistency and I like it. This is so far a bonus to my routine. THE inkey LIST - Hyaluronic Acid Serum this is my favorite hyaluronic acid at the moment. I’m sure I will try others along the way, and love them too. This absorbs well and does not leave my skin tacky. e.l.f. - Superhydrate Moisturizer I layer this right after my hyaluronic acid, which pulls moisture to the skin. This gives my hyaluronic acid the extra boost. This is a gel texture. I keep mine in my skin fridge and it feels like heaven on my skin. CeraVe - CeraVe Moisturising Cream this is my final step!!! I can’t live without this. This makes my skin so happy!! Mature skin peeps.... game changer! This keeps my skin full of hydration, gives my skin barrier exactly what it needs, and frankly since using this... my skin continues to look better and better! LANEIGE - Lip Sleeping Mask - Mint Choco Chip I finish with this little gem! This comes in several varieties, this one is the one I was gifted. I’m glad I was. Gives my kid hydration all night. Hope my tips help! If you have any, I would love to hear them. Taking care of ur skin is a journey we all seek to perfect!!!

At home dermaplaning
At home dermaplaning
I’ve been doing a lot of research on at home dermaplaning because it’s something I’ve wanted to try but needed all the information first. What is dermaplaning? Dermaplaning is a skin treatment that uses an exfoliating blade to skim dead skin cells and hair from your face. It's also called microplaning or blading. Dermaplaning aims to make your skin's surface smooth, youthful, and radiant. ... It's also used to remove “peach fuzz,” the short, soft hairs on your face. Estheticians may do this as part of a facial or as it’s own service. But, with the proper tools and some patience, you can do this treatment at home. While looking for information on dermaplaning, I found that it could be done on a dry face or with facial oil. I was a title nervous to try it with oil for the first time, what if I slipped?! So dry skin it was for my first attempt. I sprayed my face with HERITAGE STORE - Rosewater Spray and wiped it with a cotton round to remove excess oils. Then, once my skin was dry I started dermaplaning on my cheeks. Using light downward strokes, avoiding my sideburns. After my cheeks, I moved to my forehead. I was surprised how much flaky skin was being removed from that area!! Once the broad areas were complete, I moved to my jaw line, around my mouth, and finally around my nose. My skin is most sensitive in this area, so I think next time I’ll avoid it all together. It was a fairly quick process. I went slow as to not nick my skin. A light hand is key. And don’t go over the same area again and again, as it can lead to irritation. When I was finished, I rinsed my face with warm water and immediately applied The Ordinary - Matrixyl* 10% + HA as it is a humectant and I also used The Ordinary - "Buffet" + Copper Peptides 1% along with a generous amount of The Ordinary - Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA and The Ordinary - 100% Plant-Derived Hemi-Squalane once all of that had soak in thoroughly, I lathered on my SPF for the day. Be cautious about applying any acids the first day as they may irritate your skin. But let me tell you, my makeup looked fantastic all day long. I had way less breaking up around my nose and mouth than I normally encounter. The foundation laid so smoothly and lasted much longer. I’m very happy with the end result. When I attempt dermaplaning again in a few weeks, I’m going to try it using oil and I’ll let everyone know how it goes! *I’m not a professional esthetician or make up artist. This is just my personal experience and I am in no way encouraging others to try this or any other procedures at home*

For a better oily skin, you cannot miss these!
For a better oily skin, you cannot miss these!
Summer is about to end but not my oily skin! I truly wish my oily face can go away with endless hot days and weather. For people with oily skin, it is always a long journey when figuring out the best way to control oil and keep it clean and clear. My way to survive the summer is these two simple products that work for me. The one thing I cannot agree more is that: less is more. We need to decide our own routine and products we are gonna use. What I am currently using is this La Roche-Posay DUO+. This little tube is so famous and I bet it is the best seller. It targets skin imperfections, which are spots and acne marks here, and like other La Roche-Posay products, it is also non-comedogenic. When I stay up too late, there will always be some new red zits, and what I do for the following days is just applying this all over my face like a moisturiser after the cleansing, morning and night, and nothing else. I have to say that I am so amazed by it: my face is brighter and the spots are reduced. Its fresh smell is so adorable and the texture is smooth yet light, which is so suitable for me. Recommend this to everyone! The Ordinary is another brand that holds a lot of great products. I checked the webpage of this product on its official website and the introduction just gives me an " I must have this" vibe. It is a serum, a little thick like all the other hyaluronic acid products, but totally breathable on face. The ingredients include copper peptides, amino acids and hyaluronic acid to help erase fine lines, fight inflammation, and control excess oil. These sound nice, but I doubt if it will work.  For a whole week, I apply nothing but this serum and a Clarins cooling gel I usually use in summer, and when I touch my T-zone before bed (I sometimes look at computers for hours after my night routine and it becomes super oily), there is nothing on except for these products I apply. My face is still very comfy the next morning. I don’t know how it works but it is effective! If you have heard this product but haven’t tried it yet, it is time now!

The Ordinary Ultimate Guide to Mixing & Layering✨
The Ordinary Ultimate Guide to Mixing & Layering✨
There are a lot of myths about how to play with The Ordinary products. Some products you could mix and match, but some cannot. The followings are some notes that I took based on the research I did at Cassandra Bankson's Youtube Channel. I've also attached the link on the bottom. Hope you enjoy it.💞 Antioxidants: They don’t pair well with water. Don’t mix it with other products on your hands at the same time, and wait around 30 minutes to 1h to move to the next step of your skincare. Or you could use your antioxidants and contradictory products at opposite times a day, one in the morning and one in the evening.  The Ordinary - EUK 134 0.1%: Avoid mixing with Acids, Vitamin C, L Ascorbic Acid 100%, and Copper Peptides.  The Ordinary - Resveratrol 3% + Ferulic Acid 3%: avoid mixing with water-based formulas and Copper Peptides  The Ordinary - Pycnogenol 5%: derived from pine trees. The most stable and friendly product to play with others. Avoid mixing with water-based formulas and Copper Peptides. However, the Vitamin Cs, retinol, and niacinamide can be used with this product.  The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanseris good at everything.  The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution: use only once a day. Be careful with other acid products when you use it. Try not to use it with any retinol, won’t make either of them very effective. Avoid mixing with most antioxidants, The Buffet, Copper Peptides. If you really want to use peptides, you should use the toner first and let it soak into your skin for around 10 mins, and then go for the peptides.  Acids:  The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution: it’s very strong, don’t use it alongside with other acids. Avoid mixing with EUK 134, any peptides, and 100% L Ascorbic Acid. After rinsing it off, you can use Niacinamide & zinc, or any of the hyaluronic acid products. The Ordinary - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%: comes as a cream, which is more stable. Always patch test before putting on your face. Avoid mixing with EUK 134 and Copper Peptides. Ascorbic acid powder or non-copper peptides MIGHT also cause irritations. Except these, this plays well with pretty much everything else.  Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Mandelic Acid, and Salicylic Acid: avoid mixing with other acids, EUK 134, Copper Peptides, and 100% L Ascorbic Acid. Acid and Vitamin C can really sting and burn your skin.  All of the hydrators and oils really play well with other products, no contradictions at all.  The Ordinary - 100% Organic Virgin Sea-Buckthorn Fruit Oiland The Ordinary - 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oilhave high amounts of beneficial properties to them. Pairing with a sunscreen if you want to use them during the day.  The Ordinary - Amino Acids + B5: avoid mixing with other strong acids.  More Molecules: The Ordinary - Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA: this plays well with pretty much everything. Be aware of other antioxidants because it is a water base.  The Ordinary - Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG: no contradictions. Water based serum.  The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%: avoid mixing with any Vitamin C products from the ordinary  Peptides: The Ordinary - "Buffet" + Copper Peptides 1%: it doesn’t play well with anyone, specifically avoid mixing with acids, Vitamin C, and antioxidants. Same thing for the regular “buffet” even though it is much more stable.  Retinol: The Ordinary - Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion: contains water, no antioxidants with it, except for the pine derived pycnogenol, which works very well with it.  Retinol in squalene: oil-based. All of the ordinary’s retinoids play very well with their peptides.  Sunscreen: NO contradictions 🎉🎉 Vitamin C: avoid mixing with EUK 134, other acids, any peptides, and Niacinamide. Great with other vitamin C and sunscreens.  Check the link below to watch more details from Cassandra.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fnrqHWLS_U And let me know if you have any questions or thoughts about The Ordinary products. 💖💖💖
