How is a dark spot formed?
How is a dark spot formed?
Hyperpigmentation (or dark spots) is something everyone deals with. It can happen at any time to anyone. The most common cause of hyperpigmentation is sun damage but it can also occur from stress, inflammation, acne, or health concerns in general. To understand how a dark spot is formed you have to understand a few terms. Melanocytes are melanin producing cells that are in the bottom layer (you have 5) of your skin’s epidermis (the outer layer above the dermis). Whatever the cause is it triggers hormones to stimulate the melanocyte. This causes the melanocyte to product melanin (pigment). As the melanin travels up the 5 layers of your epidermis it will form a melanin cap as it deposits into the outermost layer. This deposit is what we consider a dark spot. How do we fix this? There are a few ways we can prevent or fix this. Firstly, WEAR SUNSCREEN!!! Protection is key in skincare. Currently I’m using the KINSHIP - Self Reflect Probiotic Moisturzing Sunscreen Zinc Oxide SPF 32 which is a gel probiotic sunscreen. It has a peach tint that goes clear once applied. This mineral sunscreen doesn’t feel heavy or give a white caste making it perfect for all skin tones. It also gives the skin a little bit of a natural glow. With sun damage being the major cause of hyperpigmentation this will be your key player in prevention. Another route to go is exfoliation. I use the The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution once a week to help shed that outer layer of dead skin. I have other reviews where I go more in depth into this product but for the purpose of this post AHAs will help exfoliate the outer layer of skin which helps to lighten the pigment deposit. This mask is very strong so I would only use it once a week. It should tingle but it shouldn’t burn. Please only follow up with hydrating and sensitive friendly ingredients as your face will be more sensitive after use. And finally you can use skin brightening products. Currently I’m using the GOOD MOLECULES - Discoloration Correcting Serum . This serum highlights a form of tranexamic acid and 4% niacinamide to help brighten the appearance of hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and sun damage. This serum has a little bit of a slip compared to most others I’ve used but once worked into the skin it absorbs nicely. I’ve seen huge results in the brightening of post acne hyperpigmentation. Another amazing option for this is The Ordinary - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% . This has a cream formula that can be used all over the face or concentrated in certain areas. This this acid helps the skin renew itself more quickly reducing blemish formation. It also kills the bacteria that cause acne. It also contains brightening agents to help with pigmentation. Personally, I think all three should be incorporated into a routine to treat unwanted pigmentation spots but sunscreen and exfoliation are the most important.

Is this truly a miracle product? (Long Review) ❤
Is this truly a miracle product? (Long Review) ❤
The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution Everyone is raving about the Ordinary Peeling solution on social media. And today I’m gonna review this product for you guys, so that it does not spoil your skin and you get know how to actually use this product and what to expect. So, a little about this product. The ordinary aha + bha peeling solution has both AHA ( Alpha Hydroxy Acid) and BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid). Alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) exfoliate the skin’s topmost surface for a brighter and more even appearance. Beta hydroxy acids (BHA) also exfoliate the skin with an extended function to help clear pore congestion. A little about my skin : My skin is acne prone and a bit dry. I usually get hormonal acne near my periods. I stopped using physical scrubs as they started to make my skin more dry and they are harsh for the skin too. So, let’s talk about the product. I’ve been using this peeling solution for a long time now. First things first, DO NOT use this product after vigorously scrubbing your face or using a washcloth or any kind of harsh cleanser on your face. You just need to wash your face with normal water and pat it dry. Again, DO NOT put this product on wet or damp face. It’s going to irritate your skin for sure. And also, only use it at night while doing your skincare routine. So when you put the peeling solution on to your face for the first time, you will feel a tingling sensation on your face especially when you’ve never used any acids before and that is absolutely normal. You need to apply it evenly on your skin, keeping away from eye area, and then leave it on for 10 minutes. DO NOT leave it on for more than 10 minutes as it will start to tingle more and can irritate your skin. Wash your face with lukewarm water. Results: As I have acne prone skin and get hormonal acne from time to time, the blemishes that the acne leaves really started to stress me out. With the first use itself, I started noticing a glow on my skin and with time I noticed that my acne marks are fading and the texture of my skin started to change. You just need to use this product correctly for seeing the results you expect. It really helped me to fade my acne scars and my skin really started to glow. I don’t use physical scrubs anymore. I highly recommend this product for all skin types. As I also have sensitive skin myself, I can say that I never had any problem with this product. Just start using it guys, you will thank me later. After Care You have to make sure you moisturize your skin really well after using the ordinary peeling solution. I suggest to avoid any acne treatment/cream on the same night you use it. Use sunscreen DAILY. I cannot stress this enough. Guys, this solution acts as an exfoliant. And as a result it makes your skin sensitive to the sun. You have to make sure you apply sunscreen every single day. Have a great skin day 🥰🥰 thanks for reading! Plz comment a 🔥 if you read the whole thing 😱

IS THE ORDINARY WORTH THE HYPE?
IS THE ORDINARY WORTH THE HYPE?
As most of you may know, The Ordinary Peeling Solution has gone viral on social media this year. Why wouldn’t it? At $7.20 a bottle, I’d say it’s a great deal for a skincare product! I wanted to try this out for myself. It supposedly offers deeper exfoliation to help fight signs of pore congestion and improve skin radiance. In addition, it improves the appearance of skin texture and reduces the look of fine lines. So how did it work for me? I applied a light layer to my skin and left it on for 10 minutes. Please do not leave on longer, it is not good for the skin! (Itching, tingles, etc.). Once I removed the product, my skin was visibly more radiant. As for fighting pore congestion and improving skin texture, I’m not so sure about that. I’ve been using it for two weeks now and have not been able to tell a huge difference. My pores are still large and my skin texture is the same. I enjoy this product before applying makeup because it does brighten my skin and give me a nice glow. Would I repurchase? Probably not. The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution Let me know how you feel about this product in the comments. 😊

MY SECRET WEAPON AGAINST BREAKOUTS! 😱
MY SECRET WEAPON AGAINST BREAKOUTS! 😱
I have one word for you: ENZYMES! I call these my secret weapon because they are not discussed enough! In this post I'll be going over why I made the switch from chemical exfoliation to enzymes! Chemical/Acid exfoliation completely stripped my skin... I used to be a St. Ives scrub user. Anyway let's talk about why I have broken up with chemical peels & exfoliation: Agressive treatment — deeper treatments can require recovery time. Like surgery, your skin will be very delicate & sensitive. pH changes — the biggest issue is that chemical exfoliation keeps working until a solution or change in pH occurs, it also has no way of differentiating healthy skin from dead skin so you may be losing perfectly good skin in the process. Best candidates — those who have sun damage, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, etc. can use this treatment to help hit restart on the skin. Risks — scarring and infection can happen if time to recover isn't taken seriously or no/incorrect hygiene treatment is done. Product Example: The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution Sometimes you really don't realize what you're doing to your skin may actually be affecting it in an adverse way. Chemical exfoliants can work great for other people it's just important to do as much research as you can to find something that works for your skin. Now onto the secret... enzymes! Let's talk about how benefits work for your skin: Accelerate skin cell turnover — enzymes help increase skin cell turnover by working on specific areas and targeting dead skin cells, they work to dissolve the molecular glue that keeps your dead skin cells attached! they will take away the bad and leave behind the good. Many benefits — fresh fruit enzymes have so many benefits! besides having no effect on your pH balance they are able to unclog pores, brighten complexion, promote even skin tone, etc. Your skin will never stop loving this — literally! your skin will not recognize enzymes no matter how much you use them, meaning that they will continue to work over time and still produce amazing results. Also it's SAFE for sensitive skin types! All skin types as a matter of fact. Product Example: CLARISMA - Cool Ocean Breeze Daily Cleanser I think the best way to explain the differences between chemical and enzyme exfoliation is that chemicals work to give you a fresh new base but enzymes work with what you already have. I use additional products like Bakuchiol serums & collagen promoting products to continue boosting the elasticity in my skin! It's changed my life & made me feel beautiful without makeup. I have a fresh, smooth base for when I do want to apply makeup too! It's a win all around. Try it out for yourself & see what I mean! Thanks for reading. ❤️

Two Additions to my Autumn Routine 🍂
Two Additions to my Autumn Routine 🍂
🌻 Hello to the cuties of Cherie 🌻 This year is my very first time living in a city with a real deal Autumn !! I moved to Manhattan in the middle of July and the heat was no joke! I kept my routine light and focused on barrier repair. But now it’s finally beginning to cool off and my combination skin is going to need a bit more TLC to get me through the coming months! 🍁 It was past time to add an oil cleanser to my routine and after doing quite a bit of research I went with DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil I’ve used this the past two nights so this review is just first impressions. Because I’m acne prone I wanted to find a cleanser with oils low down on the comedogenic scale. The main oil in this is Olive Oil (which is a two on a scale of one to five). This has no added fragrance which I love and it felt lovely on my skin. I used CeraVe - Foaming Facial Cleanser For Normal To Oily Skin after this which sometimes feels a bit stripping, but since adding the Deep Cleansing Oil it has left me feeling clean bit still hydrated, which is a MUST for the cooler months!! 🍄 After spending so much time repairing my moisture barrier I realized that some of my methods of exfoliation in the past have just been too harsh for my skin. I’m going to be repurposing them; specifically The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution and replacing with The Ordinary - Mandelic Acid 10% + HA Mandelic acid is a much more gentle form of chemical exfoliation. The molecules are bigger so they don’t penetrate as deeply! It’s also great for treating hyperpigmentation. I have only used this once since receiving it, so I’ll post an update in a month on how it’s been working for me! I plan to use it 3x a week. Do any of you guys use these products ? 🍂 Happy Fall Equinox 🍂
