How is a dark spot formed?
Hyperpigmentation (or dark spots) is something everyone deals with. It can happen at any time to anyone. The most common cause of hyperpigmentation is sun damage but it can also occur from stress, inflammation, acne, or health concerns in general. To understand how a dark spot is formed you have to understand a few terms. Melanocytes are melanin producing cells that are in the bottom layer (you have 5) of your skin’s epidermis (the outer layer above the dermis). Whatever the cause is it triggers hormones to stimulate the melanocyte. This causes the melanocyte to product melanin (pigment). As the melanin travels up the 5 layers of your epidermis it will form a melanin cap as it deposits into the outermost layer. This deposit is what we consider a dark spot. How do we fix this? There are a few ways we can prevent or fix this. Firstly, WEAR SUNSCREEN!!! Protection is key in skincare. Currently I’m using the KINSHIP - Self Reflect Probiotic Moisturzing Sunscreen Zinc Oxide SPF 32 which is a gel probiotic sunscreen. It has a peach tint that goes clear once applied. This mineral sunscreen doesn’t feel heavy or give a white caste making it perfect for all skin tones. It also gives the skin a little bit of a natural glow. With sun damage being the major cause of hyperpigmentation this will be your key player in prevention. Another route to go is exfoliation. I use the The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution once a week to help shed that outer layer of dead skin. I have other reviews where I go more in depth into this product but for the purpose of this post AHAs will help exfoliate the outer layer of skin which helps to lighten the pigment deposit. This mask is very strong so I would only use it once a week. It should tingle but it shouldn’t burn. Please only follow up with hydrating and sensitive friendly ingredients as your face will be more sensitive after use. And finally you can use skin brightening products. Currently I’m using the GOOD MOLECULES - Discoloration Correcting Serum . This serum highlights a form of tranexamic acid and 4% niacinamide to help brighten the appearance of hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and sun damage. This serum has a little bit of a slip compared to most others I’ve used but once worked into the skin it absorbs nicely. I’ve seen huge results in the brightening of post acne hyperpigmentation. Another amazing option for this is The Ordinary - Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% . This has a cream formula that can be used all over the face or concentrated in certain areas. This this acid helps the skin renew itself more quickly reducing blemish formation. It also kills the bacteria that cause acne. It also contains brightening agents to help with pigmentation. Personally, I think all three should be incorporated into a routine to treat unwanted pigmentation spots but sunscreen and exfoliation are the most important.

5 Step Skincare Routine?!?!
Everyone always asks me what is your skincare routine. I get a little hesitant to tell them because I do not want to overwhelm them with my 5-6 step routine. But who am I to make the decision for them. Here is my full skincare routine with my favorite skin care products at the moment. Step 1: I cleanse with my @tatchabeauty Deep Cleanse. You can use this gel cleaner everyday. It's great for normal to oily skin and has a natural fruit exfoliant to get deep and clean out all the dirt in your skin. Step 2: I use the @goodmolecules Caffeine Energizing Hydrogel Eye Patches I do not do this step all the time but maybe once or twice a week. These eye patches are amazing. They hydrate, firm and energize tired eyes. They come in handy whenever I've had a long without sleep. I put these babies on the next day and I look like I’ve had a full night of sleep. Step 3: I tone my skin with the @goodmolecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner. This tone is my holy grail. I have seen a major difference in the brightness of my skin. I usually gently swipe the toner over my skin with a cotton pad and let dry before I move onto the next step. Step 4 : Serum. My go to serum at the moment is the @goodmolecules Discoloration Correcting Serum. This has helped me tremendously with the hyperpigmentation around my mouth and cheeks. I do not know what I would do with this serum and definite must have. Step 5: Last but not least I finish my routine with @tatchabeauty Water Cream. I love how light weight it is. It does not leave the skin weighted down with product not to mention the amazing scent of wild rose. I’m obsessed. This is perfect for normal to oily skin and great for minimizing your pores.

Goodies from Good Molecules
I am sooo skeptical when trying out skin care products. I saw so many good reviews on this brand so I decided to try. I only been using these products for 3 weeks and I am shook!! They are really good products and they actual work. Let’s start off with my favorite product so far GOOD MOLECULES - Discoloration Correcting Serum My dark spots have faded soooo much. I can’t believe it’s not even a month and it’s doing the damn thing. I haven’t had a pimple n a few months after clearing my acne and once the pandemic began I have been getting maskne. I would say 1-3 pimples a month. I have been using this serum in my AM/PM routine and once my pimple heals there is no mark left behind. If you have a hyperpigmentation you will love this! It’s key ingredient cetyl tranexmate mesylate is what helps even out the skin. It also has niacinamide, and is fine to use with Vitamin C. GOOD MOLECULES - Niacinamide Brightening Toner I been on a hunt for a good toner and I think this is the one!! This is a toner is sooooo good! It has vitamin C ,abrutin, and licorice root extract which helps brighten the skin. I think it works really well with the discoloration serum. Being that my dark spots have faded so much I know these two products will leave no dark spot behind 🙌🏼🙌🏼 GOOD MOLECULES - Pineapple Exfoliating Powder This is a very gentle exfoliator. It doesn’t irritate my skin in any way. After using my skin looks so nice and smooth and I see a glow. It truly brightens the skin and doesn’t leave it feeling dry. After using I follow up with the toner, then discoloration serum. This exfoliator can be used up to 4x a week and a little goes a long way. GOOD MOLECULES - Overnight Exfoliating Treatment This is a pretty good exfoliating treatment. I only gave it 4 stars because I haven’t used it much. I use tretinoin at night and it shouldn’t me mixed with this treatment. So I do try to use at least 1x a week. I can say its pretty good. It’s very gentle and does not leave my skin feeling dry or irritated. Have you guys used these products or anything from Good Molecules?? If so what have you tried and how do you like them?

Serums aren’t usually chosen based on skin types they are chosen based on skin goals and concerns. The serums I recommend in this post are good for any skin type so I will recommend them based on those goals/concerns you may have! ❤️Best Serum for Acne❤️ FIRST AID BEAUTY - FAB Skin Lab Retinol Serum A retinol serum is a really good option for those struggling with acne. This one is especially good if you’re wanting to target acne but also have sensitive or dry skin. 🧡Best Serum for Dryness🧡 GHOST DEMOCRACY - Floodgate Hyaluronic Acid Serum If hyaluronic acid works for you, try this one! Be careful not to overdo it with hyaluronic acid in your routine as it causes irritation for some people (including me), but this serum is good if you need extra hydration in your routine. 💛Best Serum for Dullness💛 Sweet CHEF - Ginger + Vitamin C Serum Shot I love the texture of this serum! It feels great on the skin and slightly brightens the appearance of your skin over time. I am sure there are more effective serums, but this is gentle and I recommend it. 💚Best Serum for Dark Spots💚 GOOD MOLECULES - Discoloration Correcting Serum This serum improves the appearance of acne scars, hyperpigmentation, age spots, and sun damage. It is a great product and very affordable. 💙Best Serum for Pores/Oilyness💙 The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% This serum didn’t personally work for me, but I know it has done great things for a lot of people. It helps with the appearance of pores, overproduction of oil, and acne. 💜Best Serum for Wrinkles💜 NATURIUM - Retinol Complex Serum This serum is a great anti-aging product. Retinol works for so many skin concerns, but this one especially is good for wrinkles and aging. If you have tried any of these products or have any product recommendations please let me know in the comments!

My favorite serums for every need!
Ones for skin texture. Ones for firming/hydration. Ones for discoloration. I have acne combo skin! One of my biggest difficulties is acne and the marks that they leave behind! NATURIUM - Niacinamide Serum 12% Plus Zinc 2% is for skin texture and controlling oil/sebum, and pore reducing. It also can have some moisturizing benefits so I like to use when I use my rerun-A. The texture is gel-like and it isn’t sticky at all. It’s pretty smooth and creamy. I like using this as an active, right after my toner. primera - Wild Seed Firming Serum is new to me but so far I love it so much! It is creamy and almost milky but it goes on the skin so well and gives a really pretty glow to the skin. It has a ton of skin loving ingredients and is packed with nutrients. I use this as an extra hydration step and I also put it under my eyes to help with fine lines. It is supposed to help with firming the skin and boosting elasticity. GOOD MOLECULES - Discoloration Correcting Serum is a holy grail already! It’s a newer product to the brand but this stuff works SO good. It is tranexamic acid (cetyl tranexamate mesylate) and 4% niacinamide, this lightweight serum improves the appearance of age spots, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage. I mainly use this at night and if my skin is irritated I will use it as a spot treatment on my hyperpigmentation spots. #cheriepartner

My Go To Serums 🧖🏻♀️
I’m coming to you all straight from my living room super excited to share with you all about my two favorites serums! Just to give you some insight according to an article from Today.com , “serums contain topical antioxidants including vitamin A, C, and E. They also contain topical retinols and ingredients that even out skin tone. When layered underneath moisturizers, serums act as targeted treatment for wrinkles, pigmentation, and redness.” The first serum I’m sharing is OLE HENRIKSEN - Truth Serum (0.5 oz - $24.00). I’ve been using this serum for the last three years after I saw one of my favorite YouTube influencers hype this product up and you know what she was right! This baby here is like a super dose of multivitamin (Vitamin C) to promote collagen. The serum helps brighten and firm the skin. Sometimes when I have a dull spot on my face, I will spot treat it with this product to supercharge the brightening component. The only con is that after a few hour it peels and you need to remove it before going out or seeing people 😄. This does have a faint scent and has an orange shade to the serum (see pictures). I use this serum 2-3 times a week since I also use the next serum in rotation! You can find value bundles at Sephora to get a better deal for your buck! The next serum I’m featuring is the GOOD MOLECULES - Discoloration Correcting Serum ($12.00 - 1 fl oz). Sometimes I get bad pimples or blackheads that didn’t get removed properly 😳 and once they’ve healed they leave a red blemish color behind on my skin. And since I want to have the best skin ever, I bring this discoloration correcting serum into my routine. This serum improves the appearance of age spots, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage. It’s a vegan, fragrance free, and white pearly consistency. The two main ingredients are tranexamic acid and Niacinamide! I’ve only been using this serum for a month now since I didn’t any area that I wanted to target but two weeks ago I dealt with on horrible pimple on my upper cheek. Once it healed it left a pink spot on my face. Two weeks in and I see a slight difference in my that spot of my face! The best thing about this is that it’s an overall affordable skincare line, so I definitely recommend this one! I hope these two serum reviews help you out and that you check them out for yourself 😉. #CheriePartner

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
