Battle of the chemical sunscreens! ☀️
I’ve been trying different chemical sunscreens over the past year or so, and here are my thoughts! Bioré - UV Aqua Rich Watery Gel SPF 50+ PA++++ I bought this after seeing that it was a cult favorite on r/AsianBeauty. The texture is reminiscent of the Neutrogena Hydroboost Gel-Cream, except maybe a touch lighter. It’s a jelly-like gel-cream and has that same occlusive feeling. It has a light sunscreen-y scent, but not as strong as drugstore sunscreens. This didn’t irritate my skin, but I didn’t like the occlusive feeling. It made me feel oily, especially during the winter when I wore this over heavier moisturizers. However, my boyfriend has dry skin and loves this product. I would recommend it for people with dry skin as I would definitely consider this a moisturizing sunscreen! Supergoop! - Everyday Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 PA ++++ Supergoop is also a cult favorite for sunscreens and was recommended to me by my Curology provider. I really enjoyed this sunscreen! The texture is like a watery cream. It has a light scent (I’m not sure how to describe it? Vaguely floral?), but no synthetic fragrance. It’s water and sweat resistant—I’ve worn this sunscreen while hiking and skiing, and had no problems with reapplication. The only downside for me was that it is quite dewy and the shine doesn’t really die down. Might be better suited for dry skin rather than oily or combo skin. PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ I love this sunscreen! The texture is similar to Supergoop and is also a watery cream. It is scentless. The ingredients list is amazing and has soothing ingredients like glycerin, niacinamide, and madecassiside that you would normally find in a moisturizer. The finish is dewy, but unlike the Supergoop one, the dewiness does fade throughout the day. If I use a lot of hydrating layers before applying moisturizer and sunscreen, or reapply it throughout the day, this product can be a bit too dewy/occlusive for me, but overall I love this product and would repurchase! Krave - The Beet Shield This is my holy grail sunscreen! The texture is like a lotion-based serum—it’s watery and very light. This product is scentless and has antioxidants like beet root extract and resveratrol to help fight free radicals from sun damage. What I love about this product is that it doesn’t feel like you’re using a sunscreen, it feels more like an antioxidant serum. The finish is dewy, but it dies down pretty quickly and leaves you with a more natural-looking dewiness. Even after reapplying multiple layers throughout the day, I haven’t experienced any pilling. Liah Yoo, the founder of Krave Beauty, has said this sunscreen is not sweat resistant since they wanted to make a lighter formula that people would be encouraged to use everyday, but I don’t mind as this is so pleasant to apply for general daily use. Highly recommend this product!

Face Sunscreen that Hydrates & Protects! ☀️
It can be hard finding the right face sunscreen. There are SO many out there! Well let me tell you about PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ What is it? - A water-based sunscreen formulated with Centella extracts that help protect your skin from UV rays and harmful environments without stickiness or white residue left on the skin. It does not contain any essential oils or artificial fragrance, making it suitable for sensitive skin types. It uses SPF50+ PA++++ and photo-stable UV filter to provide soft yet powerful protection from ultraviolet rays. Is it safe for sensitive skin? - Purito excludes all the components of most common chemical UV screens that aggravate acne and irritate sensitive skin, such as Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, 2-methylbenzylidene camphor, Oxybenzone, and Abobenzone. Instead, they exclusively use EWG Green Level Grades 1 and 2 ingredients, making sure the product is suitable for all skin types. How does it work? - Unlike other sunscreens that form a physical layer to ensure UV protection, this product is absorbed into the skin where it transforms UV rays into harmless heat, so you don’t feel it on your face. Moreover, with its 70% moisture base and 4 different types of essences, it works like a moisturizing cream, making it even easier to apply natural makeup. What’s in it? - This product contains Hyaluronic acid that helps retain over 1,000 times its weight in water within the skin cells, as well as Centella asiatica extract that restores the oil/moisture balance of the skin and helps the formation of collagen which gives the skin its elasticity. In other words, it has all the necessary ingredients to keep your skin healthy and well moisturized. My review- - I purchased this product after seeing Skincare by Hyram and Whatsonvisface recommend it! I had been using Rodan and Field’s Soothe Sunscreen, but wanted something that did not sit on the skin, yet still provided hydration. I am treating my acne with clindamycin and tretinoin so I needed a sunscreen that hydrates and soothes my skin, while not clogging my pores. This sunscreen does exactly that! It rubs onto my skin so easily. It’s the perfect consistency, not too thin but not too thick. It provides hydration and protection, without being sticky or sitting on the skin. The lack of essential oils/fragrances, plus the addition of centella, means it’s non-irritating. It also contains niacinamide, which is perfect for acne-prone skin! Since I have dry skin, I use it in addition to my moisturizer, but I think if you have oily skin you could just use the sunscreen since it’s so hydrating!

2 Skincare Tips I Learned On TikTok💕
☀️I have sensitive combination skin that is acne-prone. Normally I get my information from Paula’s Choice’s skin ingredient dictionary but I like seeing other skincare lovers share their tips on social media. I found these two tips on TikTok that have actually worked for me that I hadn’t heard of before! ✨1. Cleansing with oil based cleanser for 10-15 minutes I was scrolling on TikTok and saw that this girl had been massaging oil into her face for a longer period of time and was having lots of success removing blackheads. This of course makes sense because oil removes oil and that’s essentially what blackheads are. In the past I had just massaged it around for a minute or two but now I really take my time and I do find that massaging oil on for a longer time period is very effective for cleaning my pores! For this, I like Farmacy’s Green Clean cleansing balm but it has microplastics in it so I’m planning to switch to the one by Then I Met You or Deviant Skincare for my next purchase. Besides that, I love this formula. A liquid oil-based cleanser would work too! ✨2. Reapplying sunscreen with beauty blender over make-up I’d struggled a lot in the past with the idea of adding sunscreen over make-up. Besides the sprays or powders with SPF, it just didn’t seem realistic until I saw this video on TikTok of someone wearing a full face of makeup and using a beauty blender to reapply. I’d never thought of that before and it didn’t mess up her make-up at all! Reapplying sunscreen is so important for skin health but I think a lot of make-up wearing people don’t do this because it’s so tricky and this is a game changer! Purito Unscented Sunscreen is my current favorite but I’ll be trying Beet Shield by Krave Beauty soon too which is also supposed to be amazing. ✨What tips have you gotten online? Protect your skin from sun damage☀️🌝
The most crucial step in our everyday morning routine is sunscreen. It should be worn daily to protect our skin from harmful UV rays and help slow down signs of aging. It doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. In fact, I think the best ones out there are from the drugstore. Most sunscreens I have tried are all below $35. In this post, let me share my thoughts on some of them. Eucerin - Daily Protection Moisturizing Face Lotion Sunscreen SPF 30 combination, spf 30 | A staple product. One of my top favorites. This is a moisturizer + sunscreen. I especially like using this alone on hotter days. It’s very moisturizing. Skin may look a lil shiny after applying but fades as it settles. May leave white streaks if not blended properly. It is lightweight so it’s perfect for oily skin. sun bum - Face Lotion SPF 50 chemical spf 50 | this sunscreen is oil-free and water-resistant. Very lightweight and I think has the thinnest consistency among all sunscreens I have tried. Sinks in beautifully and leaves no white cast. DIFFERIN - Oil Absorbing Moisturizer SPF 30 chemical spf 30 | affordable moisturizer + sunscreen. Good for oily skin. It moisturizes well but dries down matte. It doesn’t leave white cast. You get 118ml of product for its price $10.49 which I think is a great deal. CeraVe - InVisibleZinc Sunscreen Face Lotion SPF 30 mineral spf 30 | Overall a good sunscreen. Has ceramides and niacinamide to provide additional benefits. If you don’t mind a lil white cast, this would still work well for you. It is non-comedogenic, oil-free so would work well with oily skin. It may pill slightly throughout the day. Does not work well for very dry skin or with dry patches. CeraVe - Ultra-Light Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 For Normal To Oily Skin chemical spf 30 | compared to the InvisibleZinc, this would work better for most skin types. It dries down to a matte finish while still being moisturizing enough. It also is very lightweight - as the name implies. It comes in a 50ml pump bottle which is not much. If you’re applying enough sunscreen daily, you’easily go through it in 2-3 weeks. CeraVe - AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 combination spf 30 | good sunscreen but my least favorite of all Cerave sunscreens. It feels heavy on my oily skin and leaves me feeling a lil sticky. This is great for dry skin but may leave white cast - especially if not blended well. CLINIQUE - Pep-Start Daily UV Protector Broad Spectrum SPF 50 mineral spf 50 | this has been my most favorite lately. It is a tinted sunscreen and I think would work well even for darker skin tone. Formula feels weightless and blends so easily. Honestly, you could barely feel it. It’s perfect for no-makeup days. It is oil-free and non-comedogenic. It comes in a small bottle of 30ml for $20, which is the only catch. But overall, awesome sunscreen. I highly recommend. PAULA'S CHOICE - Resist Smoothing Primer Serum SPF30 chemical spf 30 | Wonderful primer + sunscreen. I have to say I liked this better than I expected. I initially underestimated it but I eventually found myself reaching for it on days I have to wear foundation. This gives a flawless finish and even works well with powder foundation. Gives you extra sun protection plus makes your makeup last longer. It retails for $30 but I think it’s worth the price. The 30ml tube lasts a long time. elta md SKINCARE - UV Physical Broad-Spectrum SPF 41 mineral spf 41 | has to be one of my top favorite mineral sunscreens. It comes in a tinted formula so slightly helps hide imperfections. It’s oil-free, great for post-procedure, and never irritated my sensitized skin. This is a lil heavier compared to the Clinique one but definitely still light enough for oily skin. Great for all skin types and dermatologists’ no. 1 brand recommendation, you can never go wrong with this sunscreen. elta md SKINCARE - UV Shield Full-Body Sunscreen Broad-Spectrum SPF 45 combination spf 45 | sheer, oil-free facial sunscreen. This goes on smoothly and sinks in quickly. Works well under makeup and does not leave a greasy residue. Oil-free and safe for sensitive skin. This may leave a slight white cast for deeper skin tone. I have also previously used korean sunscreens from Neogen, Cosrx and Purito. The NEOGENLAB - Day-Light Protection Sun Screen SPF 50 PA+++ has heavy fragrance so overall not a fan of it. The PURITO - Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ has a great consistency but left me with red irritated skin. The COSRX - Aloe Soothing Sun Cream SPF50 PA+++ worked better but the PURITO - Comfy Water Sun Block is one I really loved.

Products I Use Instead of Drunk Elephant
Yes I’m a fan of DE products but at the end of the day, their prices are SO high and it’s unnecessary to have a good skincare routine. Over time, I’ve found myself preferring other brands for specific items and they also happen to be cheaper. I wouldn’t call these exactly dupes, but they’re not the furthest from it. 🐘 Lala Retro Sure. This moisturizer is nice and heavy and the new formula now has Ceramides in it. It also has 6 rare African oils too. But it’s also $60 for 1.69 oz and for something I need to use nightly, that’s just not an ideal price point for what you’re getting. 💙Alternate: Healing Ointment by CeraVe Yes. You read that correctly. I was skeptical at first but after seeing glowing recommendations and noting that it has Hyaluronic Acid and Ceramides, I gave it a try. For $12 for 5oz this is HIGHLY affordable and honestly, it rocked my life. This product is highly hydrating, doesn’t break me out at all, and even seems to be a great partner for my drying retinol. My skin looks better than before and I give this little drugstore find serious credit for that. The product is still on after a full night’s rest too and has helped me with dry spots on my body as well. Seriously try this! 🐘2. TLC Framboos At $134 for 1.69 oz, I look back on this purchase and genuinely feel like I let myself be robbed. Sure, this product is packed with lots of acids that are great for resurfacing the skin including AHA, BHA, lactic acid, etc. but honestly, my results were never to die for and that price tag is insane. 💛Alternate: Honeymoon Glow by Farmacy At $58 for 1oz, this is still fairly pricey but this brand unlike DE does regular sales and puts this in kits where you can save money too. This is a gorgeous resurfacing night serum with AHA, gentle flower acids and honey. It does also give me a glow in the morning! I’ve seen better and more immediate results from this product and would grab this before TLC Framboos any day. This also seems to work for my breakouts more. 🐘Umbra Tinte This just isn’t it for me. At $36 for 2 oz and SPF 30, I’m just not in love with this product compared to a few cheaper finds. If you’re going to go for tinted sunscreen Supergoop has several alternatives like Matte Screen. 💚Alternate: Centella Green Level Unscented Screen At $16 for 2oz and SPF 50, this is my favorite by far! It doesn’t leave skin feeling sticky at all, there’s no white cast and it is calming for the skin. This is also reef-safe. Like I said, this isn’t necessarily a dupe for the DE product but this is a way better sunscreen in my opinion and is almost half of the price. This is almost like a moisturizer and makes my skin feel so smooth. It also doesn’t feel gross reapplying this throughout the day. I love it! Battle of the Sunscreens!
☀️ I have sensitive combination skin that is acne-prone so I’ve used a LOT of sunscreens trying to find the perfect one. These are just some of my experiences ranked from worst to best. I always apply sunscreen after my moisturizer in the AM and then reapply during the day. ☀️4. Umbra Tinte by Drunk Elephant $36 for 2oz and SPF 30 This is a tinted and physical broad spectrum sunscreen for UVA and UVB protection. It has lots of antioxidants and has Marula oil in classic DE fashion for moisture. It is free of essential oils and fragrance. Thoughts? Meh. This is not it for me. I like a smooth finish and this in the past has made my skin feel very sticky to the touch. It has a gentle scent that isn’t distracting that I actually enjoy but it made me look really shiny and gross. That being said, my best friend loves this so I will be giving it another chance soon which I think is important to do because you may find you change your mind! It really is up to your preference but I’ve tried others that I’ve fallen for on the first try and this was definitely not that. ☀️3. Mineral Matte Screen by Supergoop $38 for 1.5 oz and SPF 40 This is a 100% mineral screen with a matte finish for all skin types. It also claims to minimize the look of pores and controls shine. The brand recently redesigned the formula to make it reef-safe! Thoughts? With this formula, I struggle to get an even look sometimes without really blending but I love how it feels! It’s so soft on the skin and gives almost a light coverage like a light foundation which I really enjoy. Because of this, I find it helps when I have any redness or breakouts too. I’d be curious to try the new formula and see how it compares but I do reach for this regularly. ☀️2. Youth Extending Hydrating Fluid by Paula’s Choice $33 for 2oz and SPF 50 This is a water-light formula with antioxidants and broad-spectrum sun protection. It also fights environmental stressors. This is a chemical screen meaning that it converts the rays into heat rather than a physical screen which deflects them. This can be sensitizing for some people but I haven’t had an issue with this. Thoughts? I love this one! It’s super lightweight and applies gorgeously almost like a light moisturizer on top. I will purchase this at some point in the full size. I think it’ll be great for summer because of this lightness. It isn’t sticky and doesn’t leave a white cast. Love it! ☀️1. Centella Green Level Unscented Sunscreen by Purito $15.90 for 2oz and SPF 50 This is safe for all skin types, essential oil free and is broad spectrum. It’s reef safe and calming for the skin too! Thoughts? YES. This is my favorite sunscreen of all time. I can’t believe this isn’t talked about more. Truly. It goes on like a moisturizer, isn’t sticky, makes skin feel smooth and doesn’t leave a white cast. This is my favorite. Hands down. Easy to reapply too! Definitely a repurchase.
