A quick Cheat guide to choosing the right Acid ✨
I find this Flowchart to be a cheat guide to start with your Chemical exfoliation routin. 😊✨ Exfoliation is one of the steps in your skin care routine that can elevate your current routine from good to great. So often I find my skin starting to feel a little bit dull, and I realize that I have been leaving out exfoliation. When I wake up after a night that I have applied a chemical exfoliant, (I really like The Ordinary’s 7% Glycolic Acid, Sunday Riley's Good Genes) The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution SUNDAY RILEY - Good Genes All in One Lactic Acid Treatment I notice my skin has a much more rested and fresh look. Also, my skin has that 'Glass skin' look and feel. My textural irregularities get even and my skin tone is evened out! Some of the skin concerns that exfoliation is great for targeting include: 🌻Enlarged pores 🌻Uneven skin tone/Hyperpigmentation 🌻Rough skin texture 🌻Fine lines So… back to the big question: ✨What does exfoliate mean? Skin is consistently renewing its cells, by shedding its surface layer. When dead skin cells are flushed away and a fresh layer of cells comes to the surface, the new layer is younger and smoother in appearance. This process is frequent in younger skin, however slows with age. The process of exfoliating is advancing the process of removing dead skin cells and revealing the fresh new layer of healthy skin either physically or chemically. Physical exfoliators are granular, using natural beads or crystals that are rubbed on the skin, sloughing away the dead cells on the top layer of skin. Chemical exfoliants work by targeting the bonds between cells, breaking these bonds, allowing the dead skin cells to break away. Chemical exfoliation is able to penetrate deeper into the skin, targeting congestion that is associated with clogged pores leading to acne. In short exfoliation simply means to shed away dead skin cells with the help of a product. Want to know which exfoliating acids are best for your skin? Follow through the flowchart in Image above to figure out which is best for you! My Acne Fighting Skincare Routine
I’ve struggled with cystic breakouts for almost three years now (they started popping up when I was 22) and I’ve finally found a routine that works for me and my skin—unfortunately for my bank account, most of the products that actually work are on the pricey side. For me, I’ve noticed that chemical exfoliants perform the best for my skin. Since they contain harsh acids, I use them at night and make sure to use sunscreen every morning since they make your skin more sensitive to the sun. But since my skin is slightly sensitive and can be reactive, I’ve learned that hard way that I have to rotate in the heavy-duty ones to keep everything calm. After cleansing my skin, here are the nighttime products I use to fight acne: **In general, it’s better to go thinnest to thickest when layering skincare products** 1. Allies of Skin - Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector Night Serum This serum has made the biggest difference in the overall smoothness and evenness of my skin. Another anti-aging serum, it’s powered by alpha hydroxy acids (mandelic, lactic and salicylic acids) which speed up cellular renewal and lighten dark spots, while a natural retinol alternative (bakuchiol) reduces multiple signs of aging. Like retinol, bakuchiol is great for smoothing the skin and is effective in reducing the appearance of acne - only it’s much more gentle and better for people with sensitive skin. 2. OLE HENRIKSEN - Invigorating Night Transformation Gel This product is designed to target the signs of aging, but its AHA complex (glycolic & lactic acids) has been a great chemical exfoliant for my acne-prone skin. In addition to targeting wrinkles, it acts as a solution for dark spots, dullness and unevenness. 3. C&C by Clean & Clear - Persa-Gel 10, Maximum Strength When there’s an active pimple on my face that’s super red and irritable, I always apply this powerful gel to help speed things up. This spot treatment contains 10% benzoyl peroxide and goes to work quickly by penetrating deep into the skin. All of these products can be drying, so I also make sure to mix in a hyaluronic acid serum and hydrating facial oil to keep everything balanced.
OLE HENRIKSEN-Invigorating Night Transformation Gel
I wanted to wait a little bit longer before I gave my first impressions of these two products but I just couldn’t wait 🙈. I have been using these two for nearly two weeks and I am so in love with them, the growintoyourglow raves about alliesofskin and I can see why. I have been using the 1A All Day Pollution repair Mask most mornings and it seriously amazing, it comes out quite thick from the tube but is so easy to spread you don’t need a lot, the formula is amazing. It instantly plumps up my face. Lately people have been saying my skin has been looking really good and glowy when I have been wearing this. I have been using the Mandalic Pigment Corrector Serum on nights I am not using Retinol and it’s a lovely feeling serum with no stinging which I appreciate, not every AHA serum needs to tingle! It’s and 11% Mandalic acid, Lactic and Salicylic Acid blend that feels lovely and hydrating. Packaging is an airless pump keeping it fresh. So first impressions I am highly impressed and will report back in a few weeks after I have used these for longer.

Price Doesn’t Matter (Except That It Does)
Pause: price doesn’t matter in that it doesn’t innately affect the quality of the product. I used a (thankfully gifted) $160+ cult favourite serum and was comically underwhelmed with how horrible it smelled, how unpleasant the texture was, and how irritated my skin was despite the fact that I had used vitamin c serums just as strong previously. And then I look at a community-renowned $8 niacinamide serum that is, by all accounts, a decent serum... that my skin hated and I detested due to the tacky texture. I’ve used, and loved, skincare that ranges in price from $6-$300+, some gifted and some purchased with my own money. I’ve opted for lovely $15 moisturizers when I couldn’t afford my $60 favourites. I’ve paid extra for specific ingredients that are a bit more pricy. What I’ve Learned? Price means little to how my skin will like it. But price still matters. If your budget for skincare is small, your options similarly size down. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t good skincare in your budget. Of course, opt for prescription if you can afford it- 1% retinol from the most expensive brand can’t compare to a basic 0.0125% tretinoin prescription cream. Look at your skin, do a bit of research, and see where in your routine that you can splurge a bit, or where you can go strictly utilitarian. If you have access to CVS, they have 40% off coupons regularly and CeraVe is bangin’. If you’re international, check out the go-to The Ordinary who ships internationally, or go through CultBeauty to get ahold of similarly affordable brands like Versed and The Inkey List 💰 In the end, price really only matters in that it affects what brands you opt for and how large your routine is. You don’t need $110 moisturizers or $120 exfoliants, though they often offer better textures and more well-rounded formulas. Just cleanse, moisturize, and slap on some sunscreen, and you’ve got your bases covered 💕

Night Time Skin Care for Humid Weather
So I know everyone is gearing up for their winter skincare switch but I type this for the babes that are drenched in sweat day in and out! I type this for the babes who only know humidity 😭😭 My first step is always to double cleanse. I use an oil cleanser/cleansing balm followed by a gentle face wash. My tops have been fresh - Seaberry Skin Nutrition Cleansing Oil Mamonde - Micro Deep Cleansing Oil BANILA CO - Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm Marble Edition fresh - Soy Face Cleanser Jumbo NEOGENLAB - Real Fresh Cleansing Stick Green Tea Now THIS is the important part! After cleansing I go in with my toners ! Yes you heard me plural Toners. First is the YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner this is just magic in a bottle I only use it at night and it leaves the skin with a visible glow. Second Toner is the FENTY SKIN - Fat Water Pore-Refining Toner Serum THIS is amazing. I’m usually skeptical of dual action skincare but this works so well on my normal skin. Whenever my skin feels dull I always reach for it. I follow those 2 with my LANEIGE - Water Bank Hydro Essence this is a life changer and an instant boost of lightweight hydration and allows any products following to soak even deeper into the skin. For the Eye cream I have been testing out the ERNO LASZLO - Erno Laszlo Multi-Task Eye Gel Cream and so far so good. I prefer to apply it with my fingers over the applicator that comes with the product. To finish off this hydration party I use the Allies of Skin - Mandelic Pigmentation Corrector Night Serum I suffer from dark under eyes and this serum is 100% necessary to make them less noticeable! I’m scared to run out; it’s that good. Do this routine and you are certain to be glowy in no time!
