My top non-toxic (and affordable) skincare line!
Versed is my favorite, non-toxic affordable skincare line! I love that they’re clean, fun, and won’t break the bank. Here are my thoughts on my latest Versed haul! VERSED - PRESS RESTART- I’m 35, so you better believe I have been on my retinol game! Retinol is great for acne, dryness, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and blemishes and also known to effectively plump your skin. This one from Versed is super lightweight and even has a green tint to it due to the chlorophyll ingredient. I like using this as part of my nighttime skincare routine and wake up with clean, even skin. VERSED - JUST BREATHE Clarifying Serum- I’ve been breaking out and suffering from maskne and am on my 2nd bottle of this clarifying serum. It feels super light, isn’t sticky, and I like to mix it in with my moisturizers. It has willow bark, niacinamide and zinc in it which helps decongest pores and soothe any redness I have. I started noticing my pores felt a bit cleaner after day 7 of using this consistently! VERSED - THE FIX Emergency Eye Mask - Love that this mask feels so cooling from its aloe vera properties. I like to apply this mask after I cleanse my face and answer emails in the mornings. If my eyes are feeling puffier than usual, I’ll use this as more of a sleep mask at night and since it’s non toxic, I don’t feel bad about having it on all night. VERSED - Day Maker Microcrystal Exfoliator - I love the gesture of this! It feels super fine but also a little creamy. This exfoliator is great for removing dead skin cells and any dullness and sensitive skin friendly! I like to use this as a pre-cleanse to get rid of the dirt and grime in my pores before I follow up with another cleanser. VERSED - FOUND THE LIGHT Powder With VC- I love a good vitamin c powder and have been this in with my serums.!In general, Vitamin C is great for hyperpigmentation, unevenness and overall redness. I love vitamin c powders because they tend to stay fresh the longest (versus liquids that can turn into an orange-y color over time) and have noticed my skin has been super soft, bright, and smooth. VERSED - Game Over Acne Drying Treatment: This spot treatment is made with 10% sulfur so it unclogs pores without stripping my skin. This treatment is great for whiteheads that are ready to pop and doesn’t feel like it’s drying out the rest of your skin. I like using this at night when I need it but it can also double as a mask on my congested areas. Have you tried on products from Versed yet? I highly recommend them!

Post-Holiday Detox Essentials
The holidays are finally over and I’m reeling 🥴. I ate too much bad food and drank too much alcohol. My face is paying majorly for my bad mistakes. Thankfully I’ve got some products in my back pocket that really make me look and feel better than I do: VERSED - THE FIX Emergency Eye Mask this is a thick gel mask formulated with both caffeine and cucumber juice to bring some vivacity back to your under-eye area. I love the consistency, and always lather way more than necessary when I need it. It absorbs quite nicely after a few minutes and I have no problem layering concealer or other products over it. Depending on how bad the bags are it’ll seemingly reduce puffiness, but I don’t know if that’s just me wanting the product to work for me or if it actually does anything. Bonus: keep it in the fridge for that extra cool feeling ❄️. I’ll definitely repurchase when I’m done with this bad boy, solely for post-night out purposes 😉 Fourth Ray - After Hours Detox Face Oil Fourth Ray makes some lovely facial oils and After Hours is no different. It’s formulated with charcoal, salicylic acid, tea tree, and watermelon seed that absorbs excess oil and supports skin clarity. It has a slight fresh fragrance that doesn’t irritate my skin thankfully. It absorbs beautifully in a few minutes or so and leaves my skin looking hydrated and glowy. The only con to this product is the damn dropper. I hate it so much. You have to turn the bottle completely upside down and then it’ll slowly drop product into your palm. Annoying. But at least the product itself is lovely. This is my second bottle of the stuff and it’s only $10, so I will continue repurchasing for sure!! What are your detox faves?

Skincare on a Budget: Best Drugstore Eye Creams
Eye creams are always pretty pricey, but for some of us they can be a necessity. They can be good for students like me that pull all-nighters studying or doing homework often then wake up with dark circles and tired eyes. They can also be good for puffiness. These are the best drugstore eye creams that are very effective. e.l.f. - CBD Eye Cream This product has a lightweight creamy gel texture that absorbs very quickly and leaves the under eye area feeling soft. The under eye area is very delicate so it’s really good that this product is fragrance-free. This product’s star ingredient cannabidiol (CBD) soothes skin and reduces inflammation. -Formula includes three forms of peptides which stimulates the skin to produce collagen for more firm and younger looking skin. -Contains allantoin and aloe, very soothing ingredients. -Also contains hyaluronic acid for plumping and panthenol which is a humectant. CeraVe - Eye Repair Cream CeraVe comes through once again, but this time with their eye cream. Like their other products, this one contains three ceramides which are great anti-aging ingredients. It also contains plumping hyaluronic acid along with niacinamide to brighten skin and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. -It also contains soothing and hydrating ingredients such as aloe, almond oil, jojoba esters, and glycerin. -It is very inexpensive seeing as it retails for $12.99. VERSED - THE FIX Emergency Eye Mask The texture of this product has a slightly thick gel consistency that applies easily. It dries somewhat quickly, but since it has a thick texture, it’s better to use at night. The gel has a cooling effect but this isn’t due to any potentially irritating, cooling ingredients like menthol. -This is also very different from other products since it is a mask that is meant for the eye area. -Contains cucumber which is great for its hydrating and antioxidant abilities. -Includes two peptides which is helpful for fine lines around the eyes and such. -Non-fragrant rosehip oil, moisturizing pantheol, vitamin C, and two forms of Vitamin E are included which help strengthen the eye area. -Caffeine is included which can help soothe redness, but there isn’t much research that proves it can help puffy eyes. bliss - Eye Do All Things Eye Gel This is a great product from bliss that has a lightweight gel texture. The gel is very moisturizing but not too heavy and it absorbs very quickly with a light dewy finish. The formula has great skin replenishing ingredients such as squalane, glycerin, and panthenol. -The formula also contains three forms of peptides for its anti-aging benefits. -Antioxidants in the forms of vitamin E and C work to protect skin and aid in brightening the under eye area. -Caffeine is included which can help soothe redness, but there isn’t much research that proves it can help puffy eyes. Always apply SPF!!!

The BEST of Versed Skincare
I first saw this brand at Target and was super excited to try some of the products. I was very surprised with quite a few of these products, but also disappointed with others. I’ll talk about the disappointing products in another post though. VERSED - PRESS RESTART This serum has a lightweight lotion feel to it which is great for most skin types. Those with oily skin may find that this product is too hydrating. This serum also works well with other products. -Contains a good amount of retinol along with bakuchiol which helps stabilize the formula and it has the same effects as retinol. -Fragrance-free. -The formula includes moisture-retaining sugars such as xylitol. -The formula also contains antioxidant plant extracts such as prickly pear, aloe, as well as sea buckthorn, rosehip oils, and shea butter. VERSED - FIND CLARITY Purifying Mask This mask has a creamy texture which is comfortable for all skin types. It is fragrance-free and unlike other clay masks, it is free of other irritants. -After rinsing, this product leaves skin smoother and softer. -Uses kaolin and bentonite clays to control shine absorb excess oil. VERSED - ON THE RISE FIRMING SERUM This is a lightweight serum that is suitable for all skin types and leaves a non-greasy finish. The formula also includes sodium hyaluronate for hydration. -Contains many antioxidants in the forms of vitamin C, E, and A. -Includes a very soothing combo of peptides that help to improve signs of sun damage and replenish the skin’s surface. VERSED - Silk Slip Conditioning Lip Oil This product is described as an oil but is a little thicker than that which helps it to stay on the lips. There is a noticeable shine after application, but nothing too dramatic. This lip oil is free of fragrance, flavor, or other irritating ingredients. -Includes a great amount of antioxidants such as non-fragrant jojoba, soybean, sesame, macadamia olive, and sunflower oils. -The formula also includes shea butter which is a good emollient. -All ingredients listed above contribute to hydrating and smoothing that help the appearance of healthy, plump lips.

Not your typical eye mask 😴
Versed is a relatively new brand at Target that has been on my radar. Last time I went I was amazed by the beautiful packaging but also a little bit overwhelmed by the selection they had. I decided my first Versed product was going to be the VERSED - THE FIX Emergency Eye Mask When I think eye mask I usually think under eye pads of some sort but this is actually a standard mask for your under eyes. It has provitamin B5, Vitamin E, cucumber juice (to cool and de puff), and caffeine (to perk up the area and help with redness). Versed claims this mask will hydrate and nourish the delicate under eye area. I think the most unique thing about this mask is it’s consistency. This may sound weird but it feels like you’re slathering glue your eyes. It has a thicker consistency. I usually do a thick layer and let it sit until I’m ready to take it off. You do immediately get a cooling affect under the eyes which is also surprisingly pleasant. I didn’t find that this sensation irritated my skin at all. I was really curious if this was the cucumber juice and upon inspection if the ingredients that was the only one I could find that would give the cooling sensation. I was actually really happy looking at the ingredients in general because they looked pretty solid. With the consistency of the product you wouldn’t think it would absorb well but it actually does!! When I’m ready to take it off I wet a wash cloth and I gently wipe away the excess. I would say normally 80% of the product is absorbed when I’m ready to take it off. My under eyes ALWAYS feel super smooth and hydrated afterwards. I can 100% see and feel a noticeable difference. You would think with it’s sticky consistency it would be a pain but it’s actually really pleasant to use and yields results to its claims. I would completely recommend this to anyone wanting to try Versed. I definitely want to try more from this brand in the future. If you have any recommendations please let me know! 🖤

Skincare Tweaks for Combating Seasonal Allergies
Every time my seasonal spring allergies act up, I feel like a whole year’s worth of skincare has been lost to the sheer amount of crimes I commit tugging/rubbing my eyelids and blowing my nose. I just can’t help it!! Applying product almost feel like a waste when I have to wipe it right off seconds later. I don’t see a lot online talking about this so here are some lessons I’ve learned: 1. Optimize your environment. Reduce triggers. Knowing the root cause of your allergic triggers is vital. For me, really dry Mediterranean climates (aka what I grew up in) really throw me into misery. Vacuuming and wiping down dust in my room aside, two things that have really helped is finally investing in an air purifier for filtration and a humidifier to keep the air too heavy for dust particles to circulate. 2. Another reason to wear a mask! From the few walks I’ve taken, I’ve noticed significantly fewer allergy symptoms with my 😷 on. sometimes I even wear 😎 to keep the pollen from flying into the eyes. 3. Refrigerate your skincare. While cold skincare may not drastically prolong its shelf life, we do know that cooler temperatures cause vasoconstriction of the skin, which can decrease our puffy allergic faces after a long night (or day). VANITY PLANET - Fria Skincare Fridge(tbh I just use my regular fridge) 4. Repair excessive lid-tugging with eye hydrogels. If there was ever a reason to own overpriced eye products, the time to use them is now! Restoring the skin barrier here may be priority if you’re being savage like I am. GOOD MOLECULES - Caffeine Energizing Hydrogel Eye Patches VERSED - THE FIX Emergency Eye Mask 5. Refresh and rehydrate with a quick midday routine. Sometimes that pollen just needs to be washed off more than once a day. Try choosing extra hydrating products that don’t sting around the eyes and re-trigger our sensitive tear ducts. Bringing around a moisturizer or SPF to reapply after blowing your nose might be useful too! MUJI - Anti-aging Light Toning Water High Moisture I'm from - Rice Toner 🌸 Cheers and my hearts go out to those who want to enjoy spring but can’t 😔🥂

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
