How-To: Heal and Protect Skin After Picking! ❤️
How-To: Heal and Protect Skin After Picking! ❤️
Skin picking generally affects most of us. From popping one pimple, scratching an eczema patch too hard, or dermatillomania, many of us have experienced the dread of making a pimple worse than it was before. These are some of my favorite products, tips and tricks for healing skin and keeping it safe during this gentle state. After the deed is done, it’s important to avoid actives and wash with a very gentle cleanser. My preferred is Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser due to the minimal and skin healing ingredients list, lack of fragrance and no harsh stripping feeling. I wash for 60 seconds and rise with cool water, patting dry very gently with a microfiber towel. Next, I ice my skin for around four minutes to bring down the swelling and inflammation (similar to icing a burn or a sprained ankle). I constantly move the ice cube as facial skin is delicate, but concentrate it in areas that I picked or that experience redness and inflammation or pain. Bonus tip: you don’t have to just use water. Freeze green tea and aloe cubes for the added bonus of healing and inflammation fighting ingredients. After icing, I use a gentle hydrating toner. The key is to introduce humectants (hydrated skin is happy skin) and other inflammation fighting ingredients like green tea and COQ10 (an antioxidant) to the skin to help the healing process start immediately. I then layer on my favorite moisturizer or oil— use something you trust with no essential oils, drying ingredients, actives or fragrance. My fav is pure jojoba oil, it’s super gentle, pure, and antimicrobial, with no additives. It leaves my skin healthy and supple, as it has high amounts of vitamin A and E. It locks in the hydration I’ve added with the toner, and acts as a gentle occlusive. Furthermore it doesn’t overwhelm my picked skin with additives that burn and sting. Lastly, I layer on a variety of thicker products in areas that need it to heal my skin depending on the damage. If the pimple is still active, I use a peach slices - Acne Spot Dots to keep it clean from further bacteria and to suck any remaining gunk out. If I have scabs or scratches, I use either skinfix - Eczema+ Dermatitis Face Balm or TOPICALS - Like Butter Hydrating Mask which both employ collodial oatmeal along with other barrier repair ingredients to heal, hydrate, and further protect skin.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser
Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser Review First things first I love the packaging and the design, secondly I love its texture its something between gel, balm, oil. 🌸I love that its very soothing and doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin, I use it as a part of my double cleaning routine or on its own. It hasn’t broke me out, it didn’t irritate skin or the area under my eyes. I think it one of my favourite cleansers currently, I would put in the line of dermatological cleaners such as La Roche Posay, Avene, Dr Sam Bunting. Its a really no fuss cleanser that works. Its interesting that you either love it or hate it. I honestly not a fan of the smell as its reminds the smell of something plastic. But it works for my skin so the smell is secondary. 🌸Interesting ingredients: 🌸Poloxamer ( mild cleansing agent used in contact lens solution) 🌸Rosewater 🌸Comfrey Root Extract(allantoin, which heals dry, stressed skin) 🌸Aquaxyl (Refills skin’s water reserves and improves its barrier to prevent dehydration) 🌸Pro-Vitamin B5 (Moisturising Agent)

Second installment of retinol
Second installment of retinol diaries! I kept usage to 2x/week since that was working well, and I wanted to reincorporate acids without overtaxing my skin. Switched to drunkelephant a-passioni*, which I really like so far, though I still mix it with an HA serum. I did skip a week or so when I was sick, so I had a tiny bit of purging when resumed, but otherwise it was fine. Here are some of the products I used: ▪️for chemical exfoliating, I reintroduced DE framboos serum or katesomerville liquid exfolikate* (only one per night), or just some pixi glow tonic to be gentle, on non-retinol nights (combining the two will be my next test). Conversely, I'd skip all treatments (save a hydrating serum) at least once a week to give my skin a rest ▪️ then I tried a resurfacing mask, once every 2-3 weeks, either peachandlily reboot mask or DE babyfacial*, spaced out a day or two from retinol, and my moisture barrier has felt fine! ▪️ continued with lots of hydration, especially in layers like adsorb moist essence*, jurlique herbal recovery serum*, paulaschoice peptide booster*, and olivarrier squalane oil* ▪️ same for cleansing- focused on gentle/nourishing ones like glossier milky jelly cleanser and elemis pro-collagen cleansing balm* ▪️ I also resumed using a vitamin c serum in the mornings, 4-5x/week, recently DE c-firma*, and it's yet to cause any irritation ▪️ SPF all day, every day! The superscreen* by supergoop is great for days with minimal sun exposure (since you have to reapply a lot), or the coola sun silk drops since it wears well under makeup ▪️ after retinol but before moisturizer, I'd supplement with iope cica cream* when needed, great for soothing and hydration

comparing milky cleansers! 🥛
comparing milky cleansers! 🥛
i have been a fan of Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser for a while, but i am always looking for more readily accessible / in-store dupes. unfortunately the HONEST - Magic Gel-to-Milk Cleanser isn’t going to make the cut. i really wanted to like it - i love the philosophy of honest beauty, and i really want to incorporate more ‘clean’ beauty products (however that is defined) into my routine. the problem with this honest product is that it truly turns to milk when wet - i was trying to show that in the third pic. i usually use my cleanser in the evening and in the shower, and this product just gets too runny to be useful. i can’t actually tell if it’s on my face for long enough to actually help with cleansing. i like that the glossier product is a little more ‘jelly’ than ‘milky’ - it allows me to work the product onto my face and let it sit for a bit before rinsing. i think that i’ll stick with glossier for now - let me know if you find a good drugstore dupe! for comparison - glossier was $18 for 6 oz on their website, and honest was $15 for 5 oz at walgreen’s. #cheriecreator

Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser A lovely product with a Rosy scent and creamy texture. This is a PH balanced facial cleanser! It's great for daily use. It is a gel oil instead of a cleansing oil which is great for hydration! It is also a great addition to your routine if you double cleanse! This effectively removes makeup and cleanses without removing the natural oils of the skin. I don't recommend this for people with oily skin. This is for dry and combination skin. I have oilier skin so I wouldn't use this every day, but when I tried it I was on one of my dryer days and it made my skin beautiful. Hypoallergenic Sulphate free Paraben free Noon comedogenic What I do: Wet face and rub the cleanser into the skin. Let it sit for a few seconds and then rinse. It will melt off if you let it sit for a few extra seconds! ( Sometimes I use this for double cleansing as well). The ingredients contain a lot of moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and emollient type ingredients. There are also a lot of solvents, surfactants, and emulsifiers, which neither surprising nor a bad thing since it is a cleanser and didn't spend much time on the face. Here is a list of ingredients, let me know your opinion on these ingredients as I am unfamiliar with some of these! 💖 Water/Aqua/Eau, Rosa Damascena Flower Water, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Propanediol, Isohexadecane, Poloxamer 184, Acrylamide/Sodium Acryloyldimethyltaurate Copolymer, Xylitylglucoside, Betaine, Allantoin, Glycerin, Panthenol, Symphytum Officinale Root Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Anhydroxylitol, Polysorbate 80, Xylitol, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Isopropyl Myristate, Benzoic Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hydroxide Share your thoughts!! 💖

Easy Skincare for Days You Don’t Feel Like It
Easy Skincare for Days You Don’t Feel Like It
For those of us who struggle with mental illness, you know how hard it can be to do your skincare on days when you feel like you can’t be bothered to. On those more difficult days, I cut myself back to the basics of skincare so I’m still taking care of myself and my skin, but not over exerting my mental or physical capacity. Skipping a few days is fine, but I know my mental health is much better when I take care of my skin, so I use opposite action to get myself just to do the basics of my routine. I cleanse at night (and in the morning if i feel up to it), mostly on days like these I can’t be bothered to do things in the morning besides brushing my teeth, so washing at night is the best bet. That way you don’t go to sleep with all of the grime of the day still sitting on your skin. I skip oil cleansing and just go in with a gentle jelly or milk cleanser for a minute. If I really can’t be bothered to cleanse, I’ll use a micellar water or something similar and then wipe my skin down after that again with a toner soaked cotton round. Then regardless of how I cleanse, I rise with cool/cold water to help with inflammation, as usually I’m too tired to ice my face. This still gives me some of the positive benefits without spending too much time standing and rubbing ice on my face. Next I tone with a hydrating toner that has no actives but plenty of healing ingredients as I’m not using a serum, and lock it in with an occlusive oil or a sleeping mask like YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask all over my face and in place of eye cream. This keeps the hydration next to your skin to be absorbed during the night and treats it even without additional serums🌟 I then add pimple patches on the areas I might want to pick, a healing skin balm on irritated areas and I’m done with my skincare! Bonus points for a lip balm like BITE - Agave+ Nightime Duo which is all natural and leaves my lips feeling like silk all night! This is truly a low effort once-a-day routine for those times where you just can’t bring yourself to do anything.
