Why I’ll Never Stop Double Cleansing
Why I’ll Never Stop Double Cleansing
I learned about the double cleansing method while browsing a skincare subreddit a few years ago, and it has changed the way I understand my skin. If you’re not already familiar, double cleansing is a two-step method of cleansing your face: first, with an oil-based cleanser, then with a water-based cleanser. Basically, the oil-based cleanser breaks down makeup and sunscreen while also drawing out excess oil and impurities from your face without stripping moisture from your skin. Then by following up with a water-based cleanser, you’re able to more deeply and effectively cleanse the skin. I have oily/combination skin, and I’ve found that double cleansing has really helped me control my oily skin. Instead of using harsh cleansers that leave my face oil free but also tight and dry, double cleansing actually keeps my skin hydrated, which helps reduce the overproduction of sebum that leads to overly oily skin. I only double cleanse at the end of the day, as it’s just not necessary to cleanse your face that much in the morning. Instead, I gently rinse my face with water so I don’t mess with all the hard work my skincare routine did overnight! Here’s how I double cleanse: Step 1: Oil-based cleanser My go-to cleansing oil is the KOSE COSMEPORT - SOFTYMO Speedy Cleansing Oil It’s affordable and emulsifies really well, so I don’t have to struggle to rinse it off before the next step. This is when I take the time to give myself a mini face massage — so soothing and relaxing at the end of the day! Step 2: Water-based cleanser My current favorite cleanser is the Avène - Cleansing Foam It’s not harsh like other foaming cleansers can be, and it gently cleanses my skin without leaving that uncomfortably tight and dry feeling after I rinse it off. I also don’t pat my face dry after cleansing. I just let it air dry for a bit and go right in with my hydrating serums so I can lock in that moisture. Step 3: Cleansing tool (optional) I think using a cleansing tool every night is too harsh for your face. I save my FOREO - LUNA Mini 2 Facial Cleansing Brush Fuchsia for days when I’ve exercised or spent a lot of time outside and reapplied sunscreen many times. I also really like the Boie Face ScrubberBOIE USA - Face Scrubber which is a more affordable silicone face cleansing tool that’s gentle but effective. Have you tried the double cleansing method before?

I’ve been using the Avène - Cleansing Foam for years now. It’s a beautiful, soft foam that is only for cleansing the skin without stripping it of any of it’s natural oils. All avene products are designed for sensitive skin, so they don’t contain any harsh ingredients. I highly reccomend this to anyone looking for a basic cleanser without any added flair. When I was struggling with acne, I turned to this cleansing foam to gently cleanse and calm my skin. It did just that. It helped tone down redness and over time, reduced acne. You can buy this for around $20 on amazon and it’s 100% worth it.

I bought this from Shoppers Drugmart a while ago and had been using it in the shower of I had any leftover makeup residue still on. 4/5, would repurchase, I just have other cleansers to work through and see if I like them more or not
