Whats better than a smooth makeup finish? A smooth makeup base aka clear skin! Lets talk about the ideal routine: The ideal skin routine contains a double cleanse, an exfoliating product (or two), a vitamin c product, a hyaluronic acid product, a retinol, antioxidants and a good moisturizer and of course SUNSCREEN. My double cleanse compromises of a cleansing balm VO BEAUTY - Milky Melt-away Cleansing Balm and following with a salicylic acid gel cleanser because I am oily and slightly acne prone BIODERMA - Sébium Gel moussant . This combo has kept my oils in control, and cleanses my skin and removes all residue. My antioxidants come from my LANCÔME - Énergie de Vie Intense Essence , an essence I use in both my day and night routine, but it is more important to fight free radicals during the day, so ideally, use your antioxidants products in your AM routine. Vitamin C is also another great antioxidant, and another must-have in any routine for the brightening effects and ability to smooth the skin. I’m currently using three ships - Dew Drops Mushroom Hyaluronic Acid + Vitamin C Serum , a new product that I’ve been loving because of the beautiful texture and finish. I do not currently use a retinol, but was using a retinol alternative HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Anti-Aging Serum however it is now discontinued and I am on the lookout for another bakuchiol product/ retinol alternative. Exfoliating is super important to me. I have pretty oily skin and one of my biggest concerns is my large pores and I feel like HERBIVORE - Prism 12% AHA + 3% BHA Exfoliating Glow Serum has seriously changed my life in terms of pores and akin texture. I also use exfoliators in my masks or toners, but you want to make sure you dont overdo it with exfoliation, because it can disrupt your moisture barrier. My hyaluronic acid product is and will always be VICHY - Minéral 89 Face Serum . Hyaluronic acid is leading hydrating ingredient in skincare as it has powerful humectant properties and can retain 1000x its weight in water. This in terms hydrates and plumps the skin and fights dehydration. Another hydrating product I’ve been testing is VOLITION - Snow Mushroom Water Serum which I love the texture of. Currently I’m using my Vichy serum during the day because its lighter and thinner and my Volition serum at night, and like it so far, but I do not think I would replace my Vichy serum with the Volition serum (price difference), Of course you’ll want a moisturizer for your specific skin type and concerns, but with the point is to protect and moisturize your skin. I’m loving my GROUNDED SAGE SKINCARE - Raw Radiance Facial Moisturizer because of the texture and the niacinamide in it fore my pores. And do NOT forget about sunscreen. That is going to protect and repair your skin! #cheriepartner

Budget Brand vs High-End: $10 vs $54
Budget Brand vs High-End: $10 vs $54
Bakuchiol is a new, trending ingredient that has growing research behind it. Sourced from the babchi plant, it’s an antioxidant that is thought to offer benefits similar to retinol: smooth texture, even tone, diminish fine lines. The research isn’t as long-lived and consistent as that supporting retinol use, but it does seem promising. Its benefits as a soothing antioxidant have been established, which alone makes it worth trying out in your routine! But as for which product I’d recommend, as someone with super sensitive combination skin... 🌱 HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Anti-Aging Serum Cost: $54 USD/30mL Texture: Jelly Serum; not thick enough to be a gel, more viscous than most liquids; soaks in quickly. Finish: Dewy; no shine, no stickiness, but more visibly hydrated. Skin Types: All! Results: Positive; but underwhelming. Overall: I had very low expectations for this serum- this one of only two Herbivore products I would ever repeatedly put on my face after disliking almost their entire line. But. This is actually pretty nice. The texture is unique, a gelatinous sort of almost-fluid that stretches and jiggles but soaks in quickly. The packaging is absolutely gorgeous, almost pretty enough to make it worth $54. But, it’s not. It is hydrating and does plump any fine lines that are worsened by dryness, but otherwise I only saw minor improvement in redness and no signs of any resurfacing or long-term lessening of fine lines. No acne aggravation or improvement. I wouldn’t purchase a full-size, but do enjoy the hydrating aspect enough to finish the other mini bottles I own. 🔬 THE inkey LIST - Bakuchiol Cost: $9.99 USD/30 mL Texture: Thin Lotion; silky and light; soaks in quickly. Finish: Satin; no shine, no stickiness. Skin Types: All; though it’s only moisturizing enough to be a stand-alone moisturizer for pretty oily skin. Results: Positive; as expected. Overall: Due to my experience with the Herbivore Bakuchiol, I had low expectations again- but this lotion surprised me! It doesn’t make my skin “dewy and bouncy” as the Herbivore did, but it did lightly moisturize and do something the purple serum did not: soothe. I used this alone as well as alongside retinol (like the Herbivore) and saw significant reduction in irritation from retinol use when using, enough so that I plan to use this every night that I’m applying Tretinoin or in the day when I apply benzoyl peroxide. It diminishes redness, flaking, and makes my skin not “itch” from the benzoyl peroxide. I didn’t see acne reduction or lessening of fine lines, but the soothing aspect alone is enough to get me to repurchase. Definitely worth it if you often experience skin inflammation and/or redness, retinoid-induced or otherwise!

{empty}{will repurchase} YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream Skin type: Young (22), combination sensitive skin. Primary concern is clogged/wide pores Product purpose: Hydrate! Moisturize! My love… isn’t she beautiful? The best cream I have ever used. She has the most beautiful texture, so airy, gel-like and light. It goes on so very smoothly, smells wonderfully green, and sinks in almost immediately. Due to the hyaluronic acid, it instantly plumps skin and gives you the dewiest look. When I had her, I used her every day. The jar is now empty, and OF COURSE I’ll repurchase this in 2020. This cream kept my skin SO hydrated, and never broken me out even in the slightest. I always knew that even if I got rid of everything in my routine to track down some sensitivity or reaction, I could always keep applying it because it would never hurt me <3 This is not a cheap cream, but for me, it’s worth it because I have not yet found another cream that would work so well for my skin. IMO, anyone could use this cream in their routine, whether you have oily skin that could use some help from a Kale/HA cream, or dry skin that could use some hydration-first cream before applying a thicker oil.

Say Hello to PHA’S 👋🏻
Say Hello to PHA’S 👋🏻
PHA stands for polyhydroxy acid. PHA’s are nothing new but they don’t get as much attention as the AHA’s and BHA’s we see everywhere. To figure out exactly which one the product contains you’d you have to read through the full ingredients list. And even then it may not be obvious. Instead of gluconolactone, for example, the ingredient may be listed as gluconic acid, zinc gluconate, or copper gluconate. (Technically gluconolactone is a sugar alcohol while zinc gluconate is a salt.) They all do basically the same thing when it comes to exfoliation, but the research that exists on these chemicals usually only focuses on one at a time. So it’s important to remember that any conclusions about one compound may not be applicable to another. The two most important things you need to know about PHA’s are that they are both an exfoliant AND a humectant!! So not only do they get rid of the dead skin cells, they also hydrate your skin at the same time!!! This means PHA’s are gentle and can be used to help sun damage, acne, and have anti-aging properties!! PHA’s work to dissolve the bonds they hold dead skin cells together so they can be easily washed away. PHA’s have a large molecular structure so they do not penetrate as deeply into the skin as AHAs or BHAs. Although that sounds like a drawback, it’s actually a really great thing for sensitive skin types because it means that PHAs work more gently than other types of chemical exfoliants. **In a frequently cited 2004 study published in Dermatologic Surgery, researchers found evidence that gluconolactone could prevent some UV-induced damage in mouse skin cells. These same researchers also looked at the effects of gluconolactone in 11 human participants who applied two lotions to specific areas of their backs six times a day for four weeks. One lotion contained glycolic acid, one contained gluconolactone, and a third designated area didn’t get any lotion. After that time the researchers exposed a 1 cm area of the application sites to a device that simulates UV rays from the sun and then those areas were biopsied. Using the biopsied tissue, the researchers saw that the skin areas where the glycolic acid lotion had been applied showed an increased number of sunburn cells compared to the control area whereas the areas where gluconolactone had been applied did not. The big takeaway here is that gluconolactone in this study didn’t contribute to photosensitivity, something that’s a known issue with AHAs and BHAs!!! ** Some products with PHA’s Glossier. - Solution Exfoliating Skin Perfector COSRX - Low pH PHA Barrier Mist Dr. Jart+ - Dermaclear Micro Milk Peel HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Anti-Aging Serum

💜 WHAT THE HECK IS BAKUCHIOL💜
💜 WHAT THE HECK IS BAKUCHIOL💜
Bakuchiol is derived from an Ayurvedic plant and is a natural retinol alternative. Herbivore makes a Bakuchiol serum that is meant to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while sealing in hydration. I received my first little bottle of this as a free sample when I bought some other herbivore products and jumped at the chance to get another during the Sephora sale, in one of their ‘Sephora favourites’ kits. I’ve been known to over exfoliate from time to time 😰, and have been finding myself reaching for this guy at night to help calm my skin down and give it the plump it needs. 💪🏼 |PERFORMANCE| I think this product is great! I typically use it at night and have definitely seen an improvement in the overall plumpness of my skin. After a few too many days in a row using chemical exfoliants I was surprised how quickly my skin bounced back when I switched over to bakuchiol to give my skin a break from the AHA’s. 🤲🏻 |TEXTURE| this water based serum has a really cool jelly- like texture. It spreads easily across the skin and soaks in quickly 👃🏻|SCENT| unscented 💦 |INGREDIENTS| 💜Babchi Extract - known to smooth signs of fine lines and wrinkles to refine skins overall appearance. 💜Polyhydroxy Acids - gentle exfoliators that resurface skin to enhance absorption while strengthening skin by providing hydration and antioxidants. 💜Tremella Mushroom - helps to hydrate skin and retain moisture 💜Blueberry stem cells- vital antioxidants that protect the skin from environmental stress, and signs of premature aging. 💸 |VALUE| This product goes for $71 CAD, for a 30ml bottle, it’s a definitely a little bit steep but I’m seriously a sucker for herbivore products. I imagine you could probably get just as good results with a more affordable retinol, and even better with a prescription. But alas, I do like the natural, plant based alternative. Retinol alternative. Does Bakuchiol work?
Retinol alternative. Does Bakuchiol work?
Bakuchiol - is it really a retinol alternative? 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝘽𝙖𝙠𝙪𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙤𝙡? >>A vegan, all natural plant extract, said to be a 𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘭 𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦. Bakuchiol comes from the Babchj plant and is a compound isolated from the seeds and leaves. It is then commercially purified to become what we are seeing in skincare, Bakuchiol oil. 𝘿𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠? There is not enough studies or research on how it works particularly at this time, BUT with the few that there are, 𝙔𝙀𝙎, 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨. ✰ improves sign of aging. Has the same collagen boosting properties as Retinol. ✰ its an antioxidant! It fights against free radicals. ✰ fades pigmentation. It inhibits melanin production. ✰ antibacterial + anti-inflammatory. Fights acne! 𝙄𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙖 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙡 𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚? It’s honestly just as effective according to research. You do have to use it am and pm to achieve the same results just from nightly retinol. ✰ not sun sensitive, wear this night and day! ✰ better suited for sensitive skin types that can’t handle retinol yet. 𝙣𝙞𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮. You can find a cheaper alternative to Bakuchiol by using Niacinamide with ALMOST the same results. The two ingredients do things differently, but help with similar concerns. 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙡? USE BOTH! Bakuchiol stabilizes Retinol, helps it work longer, and also helps skin sensitivity to retinol. HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Anti-Aging Serum This Bakuchiol serum really didn’t do much for me. It will not be a repurchase. It does not compare to a lower dose/% of retinol at all for me. While it has a nice tacky yet luxurious texture, it pretty much just made my skin feel hydrated and that’s about it. I will be trying the rest of this serum with my retinol as I have read new things about them working better together, so we will see!
