BEST Acne Spot Treatments and How They Work
👩🏻⚕️Everything you ever wanted to know about acne spot treatments, ingredients and more! 🔑P. Acnes/C. Acnes is the bacteria responsible for causing acne. 🔑Rx Retinoids, Differin (Adapalene,) and retinols should not be used as spot treatments. See my previous post for information about these. So what's in spot treatments and how and why do these ingredients work? proactiv - Emergency Blemish Relief ✅Rating 9/10 ✅More penetrating, less drying 5% BPO formula ✅Goes on clear and can be worn under makeup ✅I’m allergic to BPO but can sometimes use this sparingly 🧪Benzoyl peroxide (BPO) is considered the gold standard in treating acne. BPO works by penetrating clogged hair follicles to kill the bacteria that causes acne within the pore, P. acnes. In addition, BPO is anti-inflammatory, and continues to fight acne after it has cleared. New studies show lower concentrations of BPO are just as effective as higher concentrations and cause less irritation. ✅Best for: inflammatory acne, blackheads, whiteheads, pustules/papules, mild cystic acne ORIGINS - Super Spot Remover Acne Treatment Gel (1.5% SA) ✅Rating 9/10 ✅More concentrated formulation ✅Works quickly ✅Goes on clear and can be worn under makeup 🧪Salicylic acid is (SA) a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that acts as a skin exfoliant. It works to clear acne-causeing debris from pores, such as dead skin cells. Dead skin cells then shed and pores appear smaller, tighter, clearer and more youthful. It's important to note that it does not kill P. acnes, the bacteria that is linked to acne. ✅Best for: oiliness, blackheads, whiteheads, large and congested pores Kate Somerville - EradiKate Acne Treatment ✅Rating9/10 ✅Dries quickly and doesn’t flake ✅Works quickly ✅Combines sulfur (10%), salicylic acid and Zinc Oxide 💁🏻♀️I like it better than MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion (Combines sulfur, salicylic acid and calamine) 🧪Sulfur works similar to benzoyl peroxide and fights P. acnes. However, it appears to be more gentile and has less irritant effects. Sulfur also promotes the top layers of skin to dry and peel off. The effect dries up pimples and prevents future breakouts. In addition, sulfer reduces excess production of sebum oils that can cause acne causing debris when they mix with dead skin cells. Overall, sulfur is excellent at unclogging pores. ✅Best for: sebum-induced acne, blackheads, whiteheads, large and congested pores yesto - Triple-Threat Acne Treatment Kit ✅Rating 9.5/10 ✅Combines charcoal, sulfur (4%) and which hazel ✅Dries and works quickly ✅Smells heavenly boscia - Charcoal Spot Corrector ✅Rating 8.5/10 ✅Combines charcoal, willow herb extract and salicylic acid ✅Dries and works quickly ✅Good for sensitive skin 🧪Activated charcoal works by picking up and removing bacteria, oil, toxins and other cellular debris. It is a good anti-inflammatory, exfoliant that clears pores, increases pore tightness and reduces pore size. It works similar to sulfur in that it can balance sebum production. But, like salicylic acid, activated charcoal has no effect against P. acnes. ✅Best for: inflammatory acne, blackheads, whiteheads, large and congested pores 🚨All of the ingredients and products can have side effects such as dryness, itching, redness, flaking, irritation or allergy. Be sure to test a small area on skin 24 hours before applying to your face.

Are These Hyped Up Skincare Products Worth It?
You ever get to a point with your skincare stash where you start asking yourself if certain products were worth the hype or not? After a certain point of using them you either see the hype or wonder what everyone is seeing that you’re not. One item I completely found not worth the hype was the Milk MAKEUP - Cooling Water . I had wanted to try this for the longest time and I finally got the chance with the Sephora birthday gift last year. Above I have the mini which is $15 for .21 oz of product (the full size is $26 for 1.2 oz). Milk claims this cooling under eye stick helps reduce the appearance of puffiness and dark circles with caffeine while hydrating with seawater (which sounds weird to me). My issue with this product is the stick doesn’t have enough glide. It skips across the skin and I feel like I have to tug too much at the delicate under eye area. It’s just too much trauma to the under eye. It’s a little cooling but not enough for it to be in the name. I don’t find it hydrates well either. It has no detectable smell. Overall this product is completely not worth the hype. Another product that is super hyped up is the MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion . I bought last year around Christmas after hearing all the buzz about it. It was $17 for 1 oz of product. I will say that for the most part it does work but as I went to esthetician school I realized how bad this is for your skin. Yes, this will dry out a pimple but it also dries out your surrounding skin and can in turn damage it. When I did use it I used to spot treatment by sticking a cue tip in the suspension and grabbing some of the pink solution and applying to the blemish. It has this very STRONG smell of alcohol I didn’t like. I like to spot treat before I go to bed and I found when I was sleeping this would just flake off. It just irritated the skin and made it inflamed. I would not recommend this at all for acne. Like the whole range is really bad. Salicylic acid is a lot better of an option. This definitely was not worth the hype.

If you’re like me and don’t have overly spotty skin but when those pesky spots crop up you know they can be very annoying! There are many products on the market that claim to target spots as and when they crop up. I put two leading brands to the test to see who comes out on top. MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion This cult favorite is made with a blend of Calamine and Salicylic Acid. You apply the lotion overnight to help soothe and clear up pimples, blemishes and whiteheads without irritating the surrounding skin. This is suitable for even the most sensitive skin types, is super gentle and effortless to apply. I really love this product. I've been using it for a few days and I see the spots where I apply it to, getting smaller each day. This is my new beauty bestie - as I saw results literally after the second use, it’s my new go to, my skin is completely changed, I’ll never be without my drying lotion ever again! LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Duo Dual Acne Treatment This multi award winning acne spot treatment claims to reduce the number and severity of acne blemishes and helps clear blackheads and whiteheads. It's backed by dermatologists and includes 5.5% micronized benzoyl peroxide and micro-exfoliating lipo-hydroxy acid which provides fast, visible results in 3 days. This product is best used in the total range to see the full effects. It's recommended to use it in between the facial wash and facial cream. A little goes a long way. I use it on my entire face, and have seen a big difference in the surface and texture in my skin since I began using it. My skin hasn't been this clear in a long time thanks to this 3 step regimen that I'm using.

MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion Key Ingredient list: . Isopropyl alcohol: This is a simple alcohol (vs fatty alcohol) which can dry out the skin in large concentration. . Calamine: Helps dry out pimples caused by excess oil faster and can also help soothe the skin from mild irritation. . Salicylic Acid: This is a BHA, which is a chemical exfoliator. It helps unclog your pores by penetrating into your pores to get rid of dead skin cells, bacteria, and grime. . Sulfur: Helps dry out the surface of your skin to help absorb excess oil. It also dries out dead skin cells to help unclog pores. . Zinc Oxide: It has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties, helping to heal wounds. . Glycerin: This is a humectant which helps draw water from the air into your skin, keeping your skin hydrated. . Camphor: Has antibacterial and antifungal properties which helps heal pimples. . ✨Removing excess oil can help heal acne quicker. However, overdrying acne can also make it worse. I think @mariobadescu got their formula right with this spot treatment. They’ve used the right concentration of each “drying” ingredient so your acne does not get worse. I’ve never experienced worsened acne after applying this spot treatment. It truly dries up my acne overnight! My acne generally looks less inflamed or smaller the next day. They hardly ever become pus-filled the next day because the spot treatment dries them up. . There are two nit-pick cons to this spot treatment: . 1. You have to store the bottle vertically so that the layer of pink sediment remains on the bottom of the bottle (ie the good stuff). If you look closely at my picture, the solution is a cloudy pink because the bottle would not remain in a slanted position and kept dropping! When stored properly, you’ll see a distinct separation between the pink sediment layer and the clear solution. The pink sediment resettles once you store the bottle vertically again. . 2. You need to dip a cotton swab into the pink sediment, which settles on the bottom of the bottle. I am trying to imagine how I am going to fully use up all the pink sediment since the tip of my cotton swab does not even hit the bottom of the bottle.

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion 🧴
The product: The Mario Badescu drying lotion is a salicylic lightweight product that is designed to help dry up surface blemishes for a shorter recovery time. Not to mention it is also an award winning solution! 🥇 My impressions: I had first tried this product after it was referred to myself from beloved family and friends. They claimed it as their holy grail and when I first tried it, I was so surprised with how well and quickly it worked. In the bottle, it is half the drying lotion and at the top, salicylic acid. The process is super simple by which you dip a cotton swab into the pink colouring and dab it on to any blemishes. It did sting for around 5 seconds the first few times, but my skin became immune to the product. The drying lotion also dried within 10 seconds, so it is not like a face mask where you are waiting for it to dry, which is a bonus. When it does dry, it becomes chalky and essentially flakes off after a while. You can then wash it off or sleep with it on.This Mario Badescu product smells minty and lasts along time, since a little bit goes a long way! And one thing, DO NOT SHAKE IT! 🤍 How it worked on combination skin: Considering this is a drying lotion product, it did not over dry my skin. If you stick to putting it on your blemishes, you should not have an issue. It also did not strip the natural oils from my face or cause any unwanted imperfections! 💕 Skin type for Mario Badescu, Drying Lotion: 🙌🏼 Normal 🙌🏼 Combination 🙌🏼 Dry 🙌🏼 Oil Length of Use: 11 months Cost: $18 / 29ML Target Areas: Blemishes! 🎯 Recommend: If you are one struggling with any blemishes or imperfections, I highly recommend trying out this product. It is a true life saver and works so quickly and effectively. No matter the skin type, there has been positive results for everyone! 💕 Overall Rating: This Drying Lotion definitely deserves the five star rating. It is not too costly which is always a positive, as well as the process is simple, yet effective! ⭐️ MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion

Trending: spot treatments ✨
With maskne being a common occurrence lately I’ve seen an increase in demand for spot treatments. What used to be just for acne prone individuals is now popular for most individuals. A spot treatment is usually a topical cream or gel that is used to treatment blemishes. Typically these contain salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or sulfur. My holy grail spot treatment is the CLINIQUE - Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel . This is a gel formula contain 1.5% salicylic acid. Salicylic acid goes into the pores to clean out any dirt, debris, or sebum blocking it. It also helps to reduce pimple size and inflammation within a few hours. This gel absorbs so easily into the skin so a little goes a very long way. It comes in two sizes (.5 oz and 1 oz) which I have the bigger one and it was $27.50. This tube easily lasts me all year. I had a really bad bout of chin acne two years ago and this was the only thing that helped. A new product to me is the VERSED - Game Over Acne Drying Treatment . This is a cream formulation with 10% sulfur. Sulfur helps dry out the blemish and absorb excess sebum. It helps fight bacteria in the pores while removing dead skin cells. It only comes in one size (.5 oz) and retails for $16.99. It also is made out of 79% post consumer recycled plastic. This cream formulation dries down on the blemish which makes it easy to night time use. I’m a side sleeper and a lot of dry down acne products wipe right off. It’s definitely helped with some acne spots but it’s not as good as the Clinique. Lastly, I’ve used the MARIO BADESCU - Mario Badescu Drying Lotion in the past and despite it being a cult product I don’t like it. It’s a calamine lotion suspended in an alcohol formula (it also contains salicylic acid and sulfur). The alcohol smells so strong and stings the skin. It dries out the blemish but alcohol is so stripping to the skin it has potential to increase inflammation which also can lead to hyperpigmentation. It does dry down but as I sleep it wipes right off my face. This is a brand I tend to avoid all together.
