Should we give products a second chance?
Should we give products a second chance?
Do your products don't seem to work? Do you stop using them and then later after few weeks give them a second chance? Do some products work at all for you? When is too soon to know certain product isn't working? I dealt with these questions for months before finally able to answer them. I am a skincare ingredients learner, I am studying ingredients, skin science and skincare products formulation for more than a year and everyday I learn something new. The products I'm talking about and shown in picture are the ones that didn't work for me in the first run. I stopped using them and I realized I like the ingredients, like the formula, I know certain ingredients show result on my skin then why isn't these working? So, I gave these a second chance and Vola! I actually liked them! And not only liked, some of them quite actually worked amazing in giving me good results! These products may not be the exact same ones that need second chance from you but I believe if you have similar skin like me, this will be helpful. 1. Tonymoly AmpoulesTONYMOLY - Vital Vita 12 Poresole Ampoule TONYMOLY - Vital Vita 12 Brightening Ampoule TONYMOLY - Vital Vita 12 Synergy Ampoule TONYMOLY - Vital Vita 12 Ampoule Moisture I love ampoules. They are more potent form of serums that are packed with ingredients which penetrate deep in skin and work their magic. But for some reason I did not like these ampoules from Tonymoly. They didn't do a thing for my skin. After weeks, I incorporated them again in my routine but with different moisturizer, sunscreens and toners and they started to feel better. I still didn't see ground breaking results from these yet but I really enjoy the formula of these amouples. It's lightweight, watery consistency that absorb quickly and doesn't feel sticky at all. I like to use these in the morning. 🌟 2. The ordinary RetinolsThe Ordinary - Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane The Ordinary - Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion THE inkey LIST - Retinol Serum Retinol is my go-to after Niacinamide. I love the results they give. The ordinary's Retinol in squalane oil was a big No for me. It was too heavy for my liking and didn't work. Then I gave it a second chance and used it along with Niacinamide serum in my routine. Of course it's oil so it goes at the very last in your night time skincare routine and it's actually great! It is very gentle, you will have to use it for 2-3 weeks atleast to see any results. Granactive Retinoid emulsion is my most favorite formula. It not only works amazing in just one use but the milky texture gets absorbes very quickly and feels amazing. My skin feels super soft and less textured the next morning. ( I have oily, Textured skin so I really like results of products that reduce that) 3. Centella Asiatica PureHeals - Centella 90 Ampoule If you're Acne prone or have sensitive skin in general, this ingredient must have been hyped a lot about in your social life. It's actually an amazing ingredient that works amazing in reducing redness and inflammation. It's calming soothing as well as hydrating. So what went wrong? It irritated my skin. It started to burn and itch a bit and I didn't feel it calming at all. Then I used it in less amount. Just three drops for entire face and I liked it! It works better if you consistently use it for 3-4 weeks. 4. Fourthray beauty Reveal. Fourth Ray - Reveal 10% Alpha Hydroxy Acid Serum It's an interesting one. I love AHAs. This was the first product that had both Glycolic acid and Lactic acid so it was quite harsh at first when i started to use. But, later when my skin could actually handle AHA and their high potency I started using this again. I loved it! It worked amazing. It gave well known AHA results, skin felt smoother and it reduced texture and hyperpigmentation. 5. Fleur and bee Fleur & Bee - Nectar of the C / Natural Vitamin C Serum This serum is supposed to work slowly so my bad that i felt it did not work at all. It does work if you use it for weeks. Simple as that. Some products do take time than others, this is one of them. I like the feel and tecture of this Vitamin C serum It's an affordable option for anyone who wants a good Vitamin C serum. Let me know do you give your products a second chance? ❤️

I’ve never really been a big fan of Vitamin C because of how unstable I have found it to be, honestly I don’t know if I will be using Vitamin C in my routine after I use these up. I want to simplify my routine, and by simplifying I mean reducing the number of products and thus ingredients on my face, which will hopefully increase the efficacy and thus I will see better results in the future. Right now, I am using Vitamin C because it is said to be very efficient in helping protect the skin from sun damage and consequently boosting the effects of the sunscreen. DERMA•E - Vitamin C Concentrated Serum As soon as I wake up and rinse my face, I apply this serum first. It smells amazing, citrusy. It’s a good texture, a thin gel which dries quickly on the skin, you definitely feel it seeping in your skin. TONYMOLY - Vital Vita 12 Synergy Ampoule The ampoule is like any other, watery and it gets a bit sticky as you pat it into your skin, I believe the heat of palm does that! I brought this on a whim but I don’t feel like it was wasted money. It has a good texture and does a good job supporting the effectiveness of the Derma-E serum. The Ordinary - Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA Alpha Arbutin is said to be very useful for pigmentation, the Hyaluronic Acid is an added bonus. Fantastic product. Does what it is supposed to. Kiehl's - Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate 12.5% Vitamin C I like to mix this with my face cream because it’s too oily to use on its own. I think it does a decent job hydrating my skin, and I have noticed an increase in how quick my skin fades. Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Cream I feel like it’s a pretty basic moisturizer, I have no problems with it. I just feel like I could get the same benefits from any other moisturizer for much less. Neutrogena - Clear Face Oil-Free Sunscreen SPF 55 The sunscreen is absolutely wonderful, just wish it didn’t burn when it got in my eyes. The price point as well as the matte finish make it an absolute go to product! (Also makes for a phenomenal primer)

When I first started taking care of my skin pt 1
When I first started taking care of my skin pt 1
I didn’t know how to use most of these products or how to do the research to find what is right for my skin and what isn’t. This review is a colored skin friendly one and some of these may not be applicable to anyone else except for those with colored, sensitive skin. As all my melanin producing babes might already be aware, we have to be very careful of hyperpigmentation happening literally anywhere at any moment for no reason. That’s what got me into really taking care of my skin, that and the fine line I was starting to see on my forehead. The products shown on here were the result of Instagram, my grandma and lifestyle choices. Some of these I still use, others not so much SheaMoisture - Peace Rose Oil Complex Sensitive Skin Cleansing Oil I used to only wash my face with soap at nights because I had very long hectic days, the oil to milk formulation was perfect for me and I thought the smell was heavenly. However, it always left my skin feeling dry. I used to believe that means it throughly cleaned my skin, which is not true. Oil to milkformulations are great for sensitive skin types but this particular one was too harsh for me. Also, I recently learned how bad fragrance is for your skin. It sensitizes your skin leading you to develop allergies to fragrance as well as other ingredients in skin care products as your skin ages. The Ordinary - Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG I liked to follow the face cleansing with the caffeine solution for my dark circles, I have had them since childhood and they never seems to go away. It may as well just be part of my face at this point. I had really high hopes for this ordinary product, as most of them are raves about. It did nothing for me, that may be because my dark circles seem to be permanent so I don’t want to bash the product. However, I think this could really be skipped and there would’ve been no difference in how my skin looked. PACIfICA - Gem Serum Radiant Drops This serum was the most beautiful thing to look at, the mica made it magical in appearance. My skin started to look slightly brighter as well, initially I didn’t understand what it was supposed to do, I still don’t completely understand how a glitter serum will make my skin brighter but maybe the placebo effect worked here? It had no strong fragrance which I appreciated and made skincare fun because it made me feel like a fairie Princess. TONYMOLY - Vital Vita 12 Synergy Ampoule I used this mostly during the day time and it did nothing for me. I also feel that vitamin c products just haven’t reached that point where vitamin c is stable enough to even have an effect. This may not be the case with a rare few but why take the risk when other ingredients like niacinamide and retinol can deliver the same effects but more efficiently. I will create a part two because I have run out of words haha..
