Fight Acne with Retinoids and Retinol to GLOW ✨
🚨If you suffer from stubborn acne (like I have) you may want to consider adding OTC retinoids to your routine! 🔑Retinoids, a vitamin A derivative, are a key player in the skincare industry. Many studies have proven retinoids fight acne, promote collagen, reduce wrinkles and hyperpigmentation to give skin a healthy glow. The good news is now there are plenty of options for Rx strength one now available OTC! 💁🏻♀️I only mentioned products I’ve use and that work! Best OTC Rx Strength Adapalene 0.1% proactiv - Adapalene Gel 0.1% Acne Treatment DIFFERIN - Acne Treatment Gel LA ROCHE-POSAY - Effaclar Adapalene Gel .01% Topical Retinoid Acne Treatment This former prescription-only retinoid works to unclog pores by slowing pore lining growth and reduces the skin’s sensitivity to inflammation! This is a great introductory retinoid if you’ve never used any before. ✨Prevents pimple formation ✨Speeds blemish healing time ✨Reduces inflammation and redness ✨Evens skin tone and texture ✨Anti-aging benefits Best OTC Retinol Serums Why do I like OTC retinoids better than retinol? Retinol actually takes much longer to work. In fact, because retinol must convert at the cellular level of the skin, it can take 6 months to a year before seeing results. Retinol can be 20x less effective than a Rx strength retinoids. Murad - Retinol Youth Renewal Serum dermalogica - Retinol Acne Clearing Oil SUNDAY RILEY - A+ High-Dose Retinol Serum The Ordinary - Retinol 0.2% in Squalane The Ordinary - Retinol 0.2% in Squalane DRUNK ELEPHANT - A-Passioni Retinol Cream ✨Gentle formulas - good for sensitive skin ✨Decrease fine lines over time ✨Serums contain other skin hydrating ingredients Myths True and False: ⚡️Retinoids thin your skin - FALSE They actually strengthen your skin by promoting collagen production. ⚡️Retinoids have drying side effects - TRUE and FALSE When you start using retinoids, skin may go through a process of Retinization, the adjustment period in which dryness, flaking and redness can occur. Symptoms subside in about 4 weeks and are almost eliminated my using a great moisturizer. ⚡️You should wait till your older to use retinoids - FALSE Retinoids and retinol are safe to use ages 12 and up! 💁🏻♀️Right now, I personally use Proactive adapalene 0.1% for acne fighting and anti-aging at the same time! How save retinoids improved your skin?

Honest thoughts on Curology 🧐
𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 is a customized skincare subscription service - i’m sure we’ve all heard of it! Ever since I learned about prescription tretinoin, I knew I had to try it. I like that Curology can prescribe Tretinoin through an online consultation so it saved me a lot of money. I signed up and I received my first bottle in the first week of 2020. 𝐌𝐲 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞 & 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬: I have combination, sensitized, acne-prone skin with PIH 𝐌𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 & 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐈 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐭: I used two formulas: First month (January): Tretinoin 0.01% , Clindamycin 1%, Azelaic Acid 4% Next two months: Tretinoin 0.018%, Clindamycin 1%, Azelaic Acid 8% *NOTE: I specifically asked for tretinoin and azelaic acid * I have been using Adapalene for two months before I started Curology and was at the purging stage. 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡: My free trial arrived the first week of January and I tried it right away. As per the instructions, I washed my face with a gentle cleanser, applied moisturizer then the cream. I used it 2x a week. I was alternately using it with Adapelene. For the first month, the effects weren’t super obvious - other than my skin becoming smoother and softer feeling than it ever had before. 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡: I think my skin was at its worst in my second month of Tretinoin (4th month adapalene). I had more cystic acne and I was literally red all day -- I like to call it my full-on purging stage. I just stuck to it anyway. By this time, my skin was also feeling dry and I had slight peeling. My routine was: cleanser, thick moisturizer, and tretinoin. I was using my formula 3x a week. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡: The last weeks of the third month was when I saw the big changes in my skin. I was able to use the cream nightly by this time. Only word I can use to describe it is - shocked. I went from having cystic, red acne and rough patches to having smooth and completely calmed skin. Though left with hyperpigmentations, my skin was better than ever. 𝗪𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐈 𝐚𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐰: After 3 months with Curology (with simplified skin care routine and adapalene) almost all of my cystic acnes were gone. Something I had thought months ago never would be possible. In April, I started my Triluma journey (tretinoin 0.5% + hydroquinone +mild steroid) to treat the hyperpigmentations left behind. I finished my tube last May and from then on used another brand of tretinoin (0.5%) for maintenance and to treat PIH. 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: All I gotta say is that Curology is a great service, for most people. Unfortunately there are some of us for whom the base and/or certain ingredients simply won't work, and I believe that's no fault of Curology. I thoroughly recommend Curology. It’s a great option to get our hands on prescription strength products, like Tretinoin cream, without paying for an expensive private consultation.

Top Tips for Treating Hyperpigmentation!
I have combination, oily skin that is prone to breakouts, the breakouts lead to hyperpigmentation which is my biggest skin concern. I've been dealing with hyperpigmentation for what seems like forever and have learned some important tips when it comes to it! Tip #1: Use SPF religiously! For anyone dealing with hyperpigmentation this is the most important tip because the sun's UV rays can cause pigmentation to darken. SPF is also essential because many treatments for hyperpigmentation, like acids, can cause the skin to be even more sensitive to the sun. My top SPFs are: elta md SKINCARE - UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 Supergoop! - 100% Mineral Smooth & Poreless Matte Screen SPF 40 SKINCEUTICALS - Physical Fusion Uv Defense SPF 50 Tip #2: Use Vitamin C in your routine! Vitamin C is an antioxidant that lightens dark spots, it also contains an enzyme that helps to prevent melanin production - effectively preventing hyperpigmentation! My Vitamin C products are: SKINCEUTICALS - Phloretin Cf FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherry URBAN SKIN Rx - Even Tone Smooth & Glow Enzyme Mask Tip #3: Niacinamide is a powerhouse at fighting pigmentation! Similar to vitamin C, niacinamide fights and prevents hyperpigmentation. It also helps to treat acne which for many of us is the main cause of our hyperpigmentation! My favorite products with niacinamide are: PETER THOMAS ROTH - PRO Strength Niacinamide Discoloration Treatment THE inkey LIST - Niacinamide Oil Control Serum Tip #4: Add a retinoid to your routine! Retinoids speed up the cell turnover rate, which for pigmentation means it helps to fade dark spots faster. I use a tretinoin, which is a prescription you can get from your dermatologist, but there are other great options like retinol! Here are my favorite retinol products: SKINCEUTICALS - Retinol 0.5 Retinol Night Cream DIFFERIN - Acne Treatment Gel Additional Tips: Acid is your friend, but don't overdo it! Protect your moisture barrier! Healthy skin will heal the fastest! If your breakouts are hormonal, you may need to do some research into your diet! I've cut dairy and eggs because my body doesn't tolerate them and they were leading to hormonal breakouts.

Curology or Differin for persistent acne?
So I’ve had acne since I was 13 (I’m now 24). When you’ve dealt with an issue like acne for over a decade, you try a whooole lot of different products. These two are my top picks for persistent acne, and I’ll give you a spoiler: Curology comes out on top. Differin gel was previously available only by prescription. The active ingredient is .1% adapalene, a retinoid that works by speeding up cell turnover. Basically, it’s more difficult for pores to get clogged and develop into acne. The texture is a thin gel that absorbs very quickly. It does take some time to work, since it’s a retinoid—you really need to use it consistently for at least 12 weeks to see improvements, and your skin may purge. I used Differin gel for several years, and it cleared my acne to a far better degree than the products I had been using before (proactiv). On the other hand, Curology is a telemedicine service that matches you with a medical provider. You upload pictures of your skin, fill out a questionnaire, and you get prescribed a custom cream with three ingredients, some of which are prescription. Mine is 1% clindamycin, 9% azelaic acid, and .018% tretinoin. While Differin served me well for a good while, Curology has been helping my skin over the last year in a whole new way. I’ll be honest: it hasn’t been easy. My first Curology prescription completely cleared my skin—I’m talking clearest it’s been in a decade—and then my acne came back worse than ever. The bright side is, with Curology, you can contact your provider at any time and they can adjust your formula. I did that, and my provider also prescribed me two months of oral antibiotics to help my breakout clear up faster. They helped immensely, and I’m hopeful that my skin journey is headed in the right direction, though it takes time. Currently, Curology isn’t available in all 50 states, while Differin is. If you’re struggling with acne, my #1 recommendation is Curology because it’s customized to your skin needs and it can be adjusted over time. If Curology isn’t available to you, Differin is also a solid product with proven results. Differin is $30 for a tube that lasts about 3 months, and Curology is $20/month, which is more than worth it to me. Have you used either product? How has it worked for you?

Treating Acne and Minimizing Pores
Differin Gel was my first step into retinoids and is still one of my favorites! It’s first FDA-Approved full prescription strength retinoid available without a prescription, meaning that before the only way you could get it was through a prescription written by your doctor. Pros: ➕ prevents pimples, blackheads, and clogged pores from happening ➕ treats redness ➕ treats inflammation ➕ only needs to be applied once, at night Cons: ➖ can be sensitizing until your skin adjusts ➖ can be drying ➖ may cause the skin to purge I really loved Differin when I was using it, I've since switched to a higher percentage tretinoin instead, but would continue to use Differin if I felt the need to bring the percentage down. I didn’t experience any dryness or peeling, but I used a lot of hydrating products alongside Differin. If you use any kind of retinoids you just wear SPF because they all do sensitize the skin! The larger size that retails for $29 lasted me for a very long time! I did see a reduction in acne, but not in hyperpigmentation which is why I switched to a stronger retinoid. Brighter Skin, Lighter Dark Spots in 1 Week 🤯
I am shook! I have been using this skincare combination for 2 weeks and the transformation between last weeks photos and this weeks is amazing. My skin has been changing since the weather has gotten warmer. It’s gone from oily to combination. I still get oily in some areas and dry in others and my skin has been super irritated. So I’ve stated looking for products that work well with sensitive skin. The dermalogica - PowerBright TRx C-12 Pure Bright Serum and VENN - Age-Reversing All-In-One Concentrate are I have been using in my skincare routine continuously and they are amazing they are both on the expensive! The Pure Bright Serum is $100 and the Venn Concentrate ranges from $84-$184. These are the only super expensive products I own. I took a chance on them and they did not disappoint. I’ve reviewed them on Cherie before so if you are interested please do take a look. As for my new products I am so pleased with how they’ve enhanced my skin when combined with my Demalogica and Venn products. DIFFERIN - Daily Deep Cleanser BPO 5% - this cleanser is a white thin cream. It is very gentle on the skin but has benzoyl Peroxide which kills bacteria on the skin and makes dark spots and scars less visible. It doesn’t leave my skin irritate like other face washes I’ve used in the past. DIFFERIN - Acne Treatment Gel is traditionally used as an acne treatment but that’s not the main reason for me adding it to my skincare routine. It contains Adapalene which is a type of retinoid. In addition to treating acne it also can be used to + reduce appearance of wrinkles + reduce appearance of dark spots + reduce appearance of dullness + improve skin texture When I was younger this helped a lot with my extreme acne and now it has been helping to even out my skin tone and lighten my dark spots! I love this extremely versatile product. CeraVe - Daily Moisturizing Lotion For Normal To Dry Skin - This product is a gem! I always have it as my backup moisturizer when trying out different products but I’ve added it back to my daily regimen. It says normal to dry skin but I use it when my skin is oily too and it doesn’t make my skin greasy. It’s very lightweight and contains hyaluronic acid which is great for: + hydration + reducing appearance of dark spots + reduces appearance of wrinkles + smooths skin texture + tightens skin + creates barrier for the skin When my skin was oily I would use products that would strip my skin of moisture and my skin would overproduce oils this product helped to regulate my oil production now that i have dry patches it adds needed moisture back into my skin. Asterwood Naturals Vitamin C Serum - Vitamin C is always great for the skin but especially during the summer months. It is an antioxidant so it protects the skin from sun damage. It also helps to + lighten hyperpigmentation + even skin tone + enhances radiance This is a water based serum so it’s very light. My only qualm is that it gets a bit sticky as it dries. I’ve definitely seen an improvement to my skin tone, dark spots as well as dullness.
