Let’s talk: The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner!
This has marked my 3rd night of use for this product.
I have combo/oily skin & no sensitivity to ingredients.
Glycolic acid?
This is an acid categorized under AHA (alpha-hydroxy acid). This is the strongest among the AHA family, so it also makes it potentially the most irritating (if this product irritated your skin I recommend starting with lactic acid)!
Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane, it has the smallest molecular makeup (getting sciency with it).
Benefits of glycolic acid:
Stimulates Collagen production
Minimizes fine lines & wrinkles
Refines skin texture
Treats hyperpigmentation
🚨 How to use:
The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution
The maximum recommended amount of Glycolic Acid *at home* is %10.
use this product at night: this is to avoid sun damage that can occur during the day.
I apply this product to a cotton pad and gently swipe/pat it into my skin.
I use this currently every night:
I have a tolerance towards acids! If you do not have a tolerance I would suggest building into this routine.. using it every other night!
🚨** I am slowly moving to every 3 nights, I find this to be a little too strong for my skin at the moment**
DO NOT USE WITH RETINOL/RETINOIDS:
Please, I’m begging you.. just don’t if you have sensitive, dry skin, or active breakouts.
I use Differin Gel at 0.1% Adapalene to treat (which is a high concentration for OTC retinoid).
DO NOT USE WITH OTHER ACIDS:
Salicylic acid, lactic acids, mandelic acid... any acid! This is a sure way to cause irritation.
DO NOT USE WITH PEPTIDES:
I made the mistake of using CeraVe PM MOISTURIZR & that was a mistake! I switched over the the daily CeraVe Lotion and was fine on night two!
In my experience, I experienced flushing, but not burning! (These are two noticeably different feelings). According to dermatologist this takes,
1 week for skin texture to improve
4 weeks-8 weeks for fading dark spots
4 weeks for clogged pores and blackhead
My routine:
CeraVe - Hydrating Face Cleanser For Normal To Dry Skin
The Ordinary - Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution
The Ordinary - Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
SKINFOOD - Aloe Vera 93% Soothing Gel this product is great for irritation! I use this before my moisturizer and my skin feels so much better!

HOLIKA HOLIKA - Aloe 99% Soothing Gel
I read that aloe is supposed to help soothe dry skin and I had an Ulta coupon so I bought both of these and the HOLIKA HOLIKA - Aloe Facial Cleansing Foam because I already know I like that one (separate review to follow).
I’ve used both of these for my morning and night time routine and there’s one that is slightly better than the other.
I used the Skinfood first, right after I had washed my face and put toner on, and it actually burned a little which is weird for a product that should be soothing. I tried it in the morning after I put on toner and it didn’t burn, and I’m not sure if it having 93% aloe rather than a higher percentage made that difference or not. This also has a slight scent, so maybe that’s what that other 7% is. 🤷🏻♀️ I still like it but maybe it’s for more like a soothing sunburns type of product than a face product.
The Holika Holika Aloe I’ve use before and I love it! It’s 99% aloe which is great, it feels like the closest thing to aloe straight from the plant. It has a scent but I think that’s it’s natural. This didn’t sting at all and felt really soothing. I definitely prefer this one to the Skinfood one, but I’d prefer the Skinfood over like Walmart or Target brand aloe by far.

Sensitive Skin Ingredients
This is a great guide to show skin sensitive issues ingredients!
When I was dealing with skin barrier inflammation, some of these products saved my life.
Ingredients I swear by:
Aloe Vera: this is great for inflammation and red skin. The plant is amazingly effective, but you can also buy the 100% gel at your local store as well!
Fruit of the Earth - Aloe Vera 100% Gel
SKINFOOD - Aloe Vera 93% Soothing Gel
Green Tea: The tea is a favorite I drink every morning, but I also love this in mask form!
TONYMOLY - I'm Real Green Tea Sheet Mask
Vitamin C Derivative: There’s many forms of Vitamin C. The strongest, L- Ascorbic Acid, is mostly toted for their effects, but there are other options. Sodium Ascorbly Phosphate, Magnesium Ascorbly Phospahte, etc. If you have skin sensitivity (burning, tingling, etc) to Vitamin C I recommend :
Seoul Ceuticals - 20% Vitamin C Hyaluronic Acid Serum
Mad Hippie - Vitamin C Serum
Lukewarm Water to Rinse: I recommend this no matter type of skin you have. Hot water can dry your face out, making you skin more irritable and sensitive.
Less is Key: When experiencing sensitivity it can often be associated to new products and the amount you use on your face. You do not need a 10 step routine to treat skin issues I found when I was using 3-4 steps my skin was treated just as effectively, you just need to find what works for your skin.
Mineral sunscreen: There are two types of sunscreen physical and mineral. Physical are usually chemical based and can cause irritation. Some great mineral sunscreens I’ve tried:
Supergoop! - Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40
Neutrogena - Sensitive Skin Face Liquid Sunscreen SPF 50
My skin is not as sensitive as it was before but this is great photo I got from (babeandbeauty on IG).
Fruit of the Earth- Aloe Vera 100% Gel
Aloe Vera: You Need This Year Round 🍃
Aloe Vera is A M A Z I N G.
I usually get it from the supermarket and cut it up and store it, but since I’ve been in to K Beauty, purchased this from Ulta.
SKINFOOD - Aloe Vera 93% Soothing Gel
I originally bought this for irritation from my acids and to help my skin barrier. Since then, I’ve used it for just about everything else!
Post wax/shaving soothing
Acne scarring
Relief from cold winds (moisture)
Bug bites
Other benefits:
Sunburn relief
Redness relief
Irritation relief
Rash relief
Chafing relief
This product was $8.00! Of course a little goes a long ways! It doesn’t have much of a smell and it’s very moisturizing. It does have added ingredients (which keeps it preserved). It does have fragrance so if you have skin sensitivity to fragrance I would avoid. I would also recommend Aloe Vera plants (you can get them for $3 a piece). The only downside to buying natural plants, is they have a tendency to go bad.
This jar has lasted me about a month and I still have plenty left.

My holy grail moisturizer!
This is my holy grail of moisturizer! I use it after the Dr. Dennis Gross peel pads, in the morning after I rinse with water, and as a base after toning. It is a very light gel. They also sell a peach aloe gel that I love too, that one definitely has a strong fragrance. If you don’t want to smell like a fresh summer peach I would try this one instead. I have very sensitive skin and wish I had this when I used accutane. SKINFOOD - Aloe Vera 93% Soothing Gel
