WHY I always use serum WITH foundation ⭐️
OK so this may be a little tricky to MASTER but with some experimenting, and following basic rules, you won’t want to wear foundation alone ever again! Here’s why: 🧚🏻♀️Hyaluronic acid serums are lovely on their own but mix them with foundation and you’ve just added a super punch of plumpness 🥊 to the finish of your skin. You tend to lose that plumpness under makeup when you only layer it on top and don’t mix it in with the serum before. 🧚🏻♀️If you’ve mixed it properly, your foundation will glide over the skin and blend like a dream. No more drying too quickly or lifting! 🧚🏻♀️The finish looks SO much more like skin than just foundation alone. I’ve tried some really good foundations like ARMANI beauty - Luminous Silk Foundation and YVES SAINT LAURENT - Touche Eclat Le Teint Radiance Awakening Foundation and STILL, mixing them with serums always gave me better results. 🧚🏻♀️This is the most exciting one - you ready? Your foundation lasts the whole damn day ☀️ and the whole damn night 🌚. What?!? It doesn’t pool, cake, flake, separate, oxidize or disappear as the day goes on. It only looks BETTER! I know, I know. I know that’s hard to believe, but if you wear makeup 5-6 times a week for long periods of time you have nothing to lose! I dare you to tell me your makeup doesn’t look better by 10 pm with the serum! Because it will... Now, this is the least fun part but not following these BASIC RULES 📝 can mess everything up: 1) Use water-based serums with water-based foundations. Oil-based serums with oil or cream foundations. If your foundation and your serum do not have the same base, your foundation will separate when mixed and look patchy. You might have to try a few before you find one that works. 2) MIX WELL. There is no such thing as mixing too much. Mix it with your finger on the top of your hand or in your palm and then sweep it with a blender or brush to apply. Not mixing it together properly will result in patchiness regardless of base! 🔑 3) a LITTLE serum goes a long long way. I’m talking a tiny amount of serum - 1 DROP. That’s all you need. Any more than that and you risk diluting the coverage or colour of your foundation. 4) NO TINTED serums. It doesn’t matter if they told you the blue in that blue tansy serum is from fairy farts, you still can’t use it! It’s going to tint your foundation. Stick to clear serums. 5) no “deep absorption” serums. These serums often contain ingredients that help the active ingredients penetrate the skin, which is amazing for a night time routine but bad for mixing with foundation. It will drag the foundation deeper into your pores which is not what you want! That messes with the coverage and can cause breakouts if you have slow cell turn-over or acne prone skin. It can also cause irritation if you’re sensitive. I like a simple hyaluronic acid. Simple right? Maybe not but it’s 💯 worth it if you like your foundation looking bomb!
CLINIQUE-Even Better Foundation Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15
Holy grail alert If you’re looking for the most skin-like, dewiest, long-wearing, silky foundation that blends like a dream - look no further. I’m almost mad at myself for how much I love this foundation because its literally $58 but you guys it’s so good. Now I’m not that crazy, I don’t wear it on an everyday basis - I save it for more important days or when I’m going out. This foundation is a light to medium coverage which is exactly what I look for. I prefer to have a light base and then just use a good concealer over problem areas. This is a good way to keep your skin looking like skin and not cakey. It never clings to dry patches and just makes my skin look so juicy and plump without being too slippy if that makes sense. I hate feeling like my foundation is sliding around my face, but this guy stays put and looks good doing it. I also have worn this foundation for over 20 hours (please don’t ask lol) and it still looked AMAZING...so the wearability is just as good as the finish.

The One Product I Will NEVER!! Stop Using
Ya’ll....my all time favorite product in the world. I can’t even fathom the idea of using another foundation. I have been buying the YSL Touche Eclat for about 4 or 5 years. It is lightweight, has great coverage, a decent SPF, blends perfectly, covers up EVERYTHING, and is the only foundation I’ve ever used that has a very subtle but nice fragrance to it. It smells of roses ever so slightly and I love it. It is a bit more expensive but it lasts me a couple of months and it is more than worth it. It comes in a beautiful bottle and now - the best part. I wouldn’t do this anymore, but in college (and this is embarrassing to admit), after some long nights out, I would skip washing my face before I got into bed....every morning when I woke up and washed my face, my skin actually looked great as if I had put a mask on before bed. It has Ascorbyl Palmitate in it, which promotes the formation and maintenance of collagen, and Ruscus Aculeatus Extract, which is a skin-conditioning agent for anti-redness, a source of refreshing, skin-soothing hydration. Once you go Touche Eclat, you never come back ✨

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
