Effective Quick 3-Step Morning Routine
Skincare should be fuss-free, effective and simple! We all have those days where we just want to get out of bed, do a quick morning skincare routine and jump straight into the day’s activities. This is my fuss-free and effective skincare routine to prep my combination skin for the day ahead. A cleansed face is the foundation to great skin and I start the routine with Simple Kind to Skin Moisturizing Facial Wash. Readily available in drugstores, the clean and paraben-free cleanser is suitable for daily use to provide a gentle yet thorough cleanse while maintaining skin's natural barrier. I generally lean towards a gentle cleanser in the morning and this is perfect. The creamy formula is infused with Bisabolol, from chamomile, known to soothe and calm skin along with Pro-Vitamin B5 and Vitamin E. It works into a gentle lather which allows my skin to feel clean still. However, do note that the cleanser contains sodium laureth sulfate. Skip it if you tend to get clogged pores or acne breakouts easily. US$4.89 for 5oz Simple - Refreshing Facial Wash Gel Next, I follow-up with a moisturizer to balance my skin. For quick mornings, I use Clinque’s lightweight water-jelly face moisturizer to deliver hydration repair plus pollution protection. Suitable for all skin types, the unique jelly moisturizer is easy to apply all over the skin quickly without leaving a sticky residue. My skin feels smooth, strong and healthy with a pure, clean glow. US$29.50 for 125ml. Pictured here is a 15ml tube. CLINIQUE - Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly The last step of my quick routine is sunscreen! I cannot start my day without it. It is absolutely vital to apply sunscreen, even if you are staying indoors all day. My pick is Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen Lotion - SPF 55. The broad spectrum sunscreen lotion goes on easily and absorbs quickly for an invisible, weightless feel. It leaves zero ashy or white cast which I really like. The lightweight formula is oxybenzone-free and made with Helioplex, which provides superior sun protection against UVA/UVB rays. US$15.99 for 8oz Neutrogena - Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen SPF 55
CLINIQUE-Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly
I vividly remember my first trip to a beauty counter. My mom took me to the clinique counter to shop for skincare and this began my obsession with all things beauty. I haven’t tried much from their range over the last few years, so I was feeling nostalgic when they reached out to see if I wanted to try their new Clinique iD + Concentrate. The concept is simple - choose your hydrating base, then choose a serum cartridge based on your needs. I chose the Hydrating Jelly, because I’d tried a sample and knew it worked for my skin and went with the white cartridge for uneven skin tone. Pop the tube into the base and “voila” - Moisturizer & serum in one step! The Uneven Skin Tone cartridge contains Japanese Angelica to even skin tone, Ascorbyl Glucoside to reduce the appearance of discoloration and Salicylic Acid for brighter, smoother skin. Clinique also offers options for fatigue, irritation, lines & wrinkles and pores & uneven texture, in addition to three hydration base options. All formulas are allergy tested and 100% fragrance free with no phthalates or parabens. I can’t speak to it’s long-term effectiveness quite yet, but I do enjoy being able to essentially skip a step in my routine. I’ve been using this in the mornings and I do enjoy the way it feels on the skin. It’s almost weightless and leaves a non-greasy, natural base for makeup. My skin, however, is extremely dry this winter. While this particular combo may have a place in my spring/summer routine, it’s not quite hydrating enough for everyday use during the winter months. Those of you with normal to oily skin types would likely get along better with this duo. I’ll definitely be setting this aside and giving it another try when the temperature rises and my skin isn’t so finicky. Visit your local Clinique counter to find your Clinique iD.

Oily skin moisturizer awards 🤩
To piggy back on my “oily skin still needs a moisturizer” post I thought I’d present my oily skin moisturizer awards to give a boost to three of my favorites. I wanted to start this out by stating I do have very oily skin. My main concerns are large appearing pores, uneven skin tone, dullness/dehydration. My Holy Grail Moisturizer - FARMACY - Daily Greens Oil-Free Gel Moisturizer with Moringa and Papaya If I had to pick one moisturizer to use for the rest of my life this would be it. For $38 you get 1.7oz of whipped hydration. Despite it being a whipped gel texture it’s very lightweight on the skin. A little goes a very long way as it smooths on to give your face the hydration it needs without it feeling heavy. Farmacy claims it has moringa seed extract and moringa water to remove skin impurities while papaya extract gentle exfoliates the skin. I have seen a little difference in the appearance of my pores while using this. I think the only turn off to this product is the very strong sweet smell it has. Best Moisturizer for Oily yet Sensitive Skin - CLINIQUE - Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly This is my go to moisturizer for myself when my skin is freaking out and I need to take a step back from my routine. It’s also what I recommend to customers at work if they have oily yet sensitive skin. It’s one of the best no nonsense moisturizers on the market. It’s fragrance free, dye free, sulfate free, and oil free. The jelly is super lightweight and feels very hydrating on the skin. It contains sunflower seed cake, barley extract, and cucumber fruit extract to help strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier which is paramount of sensitive or compromised skin. For $28 you get 4.2 oz of product which will last you a while. They also have iD cartridges you can put into it which dispense serum into the moisturizer. The one I have above targets pores which is a concern of mine. It helps bring my skin back to its normal state when irritated while delivering the hydration I need. Best Exfoliating Moisturizer for Oily Skin - GLOW RECIPE - Watermelon + AHA Glow Sleeping Mask Exfoliation is important for oily skin! When I do take a step back from my normal exfoliators I like to use this product in its place. The texture of it isn’t for anyone. It does have a more gloopy formula but I feel like once I work it into the skin it absorbs really nicely. For $45 you get 2.7 oz of product. It has hyaluronic acid and glycerin to hydrate the skin and glycolic and lactic acid to help exfoliate. When I do use this I tend to use it every other day because I don’t want to over do it (even though it is more on the gentle side of chemical exfoliators). When I do use this I notice my skin is extremely soft and hydrated in the morning. It also smells of watermelon jolly ranchers which is amazing!

The Truth Behind Propylene Glycol
You may have read articles about this ingredient used in both kitchens and beauty counters - Propylene Glycol (PG) but what exactly is this chemical? I decided to do some research on credible sources online to find out if the ingredient is beneficial for my combination skin. A colorless and odorless liquid that is completely water-soluble, PG is mainly regarded as a moisturizing agent used in skincare products to attract hydration and locks it into the skin. Generally, anyone who is seeking deep hydration and smoothness of the skin can use products containing the ingredient. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review board (an organization of scientists who review the safety of cosmetic ingredients) have confirmed that it’s ”safe for use in cosmetic products when formulated to be non-irritating.” This means that companies need to conduct skin irritation testing on new formulas to ensure PG does not cause irritation when mixed with other ingredients, which is a standard test that many skincare companies run before launching any new product. As long as you do not have an allergy to PG, it is a safe ingredient to use regularly. Due to its multiple functions, PG works well with almost all other ingredients. While I do not specifically seek products that contain PG, I find that products that contain PG helps to hydrate my combination skin well, giving it a dewy glow throughout the day. Other than its main function as an emollient, there are also various other benefits, including addressing visible signs of aging, enhancing penetration of the skincare product, and prevent skin hydration loss. I have two products containing PG in my bathroom counter now. I use Nivea Oxygen Boost Micellar Water as a make-up cleanser before my gentle facial wash. Micelles in the liquid cleanser help to attract water, oil and the dirt that comes with them, which is effective when combined with a cotton pad or wipe work to remove stubborn make-up. Micellar water works well for my combination skin as a gentle and hydrating cleanser that is powerful to remove water resistant make-up at the same time. My skin does not feel too tight and taut after using this, thanks to its water based formula of hyaluronic acid, golden algae, Hydra IQ and marine salt. Another product containing PG is CLINIQUE - Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly. The lightweight water-jelly face moisturizer looks and feels different than most creams. The unique clear water-jelly texture feels fresh and penetrates quickly into my skin, especially for hot summer days. It delivers round-the-clock hydration repair, plus pollution protection with the formula’s “Clean Shield Technology”, formulated with a moisture barrier blend of sunflower seed cake, barley extract and cucumber fruit extract to strengthen skin’s barrier and retain skin’s moisture levels. On days when I want a lighter and more refreshing moisturizer, this is a nice change of texture.

The Magic of Hyaluronic Acid!!
Hyaluronic acid is a major player in the skincare game because it is a humectant that adds hydration while being very gentle to the skin. It is actually found naturally in our skin that helps to retain moisture, so the skin feels plump and really hydrated. However, we tend to lose it as we get older. I love this ingredient because it has antioxidant properties that are soothing and restorative to the skin. It makes a really good hydrator because it can hold water up to 1000 times its weight. The Eaoron Hyaluronic Acid Collagen Face Mask and Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly are two products that I currently enjoy using, which contains hyaluronic acid. Eaoron Hyaluronic Acid Collagen Face Mask $18: I feel that this product is able to really exploit the benefit of hyaluronic acid because my skin becomes hydrated and soft after using it every time. The sheet mask is very thin and hugs my face tightly, without leaving any gap in between, which allows my entire face to absorb nutrients effectively. My face appears plumper and brighter afterward. I enjoy the hydration this face mask provides, but I find the essence on the sheet mask rather thick and sticky. Nevertheless, it is not overly heavy on the skin and my skin feels fine even if I don’t wash it off. I massage the residue into my skin. I would definitely repurchase it. Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly $49: This product functions as a lightweight moisturizer. It comes in a very watery, gel texture that feels very refreshing on the face. I find this to be the lightest moisturizer that I have used so far, which is very suitable for oily skin. Despite its thin gel texture, it is quite moisturizing because of the hyaluronic acid. I am impressed by its ability to hydrate the skin, given its texture, and I would use it during summer times. However, its hydration does not last long and I find myself always needing an extra layer of moisturizer to lock in my skin’s moisture. Given its price, I would not repurchase it because there are so many other lightweight moisturizers that do a better job for cheaper.

My go-to skincare routine when I’m in the awkward period🤫
Skin type: dry and acne-prone, sensitive in period The following skincare routine is specially designed for my period😆. As i mentioned before, I’m acne-prone skin but not sensitive most time. During the period, my skin would become super sensitive and easy to get pimples. Gentle and maintenance are my main concerns. Step one: Apply Clinique Dramatic Hydrating Jelly after cleaning. Even I’m in the awkward period, hydration is my first concern. Dehydrated skin is hard to absorb the nutrient from further skincare steps. This Clinique Dramatic Hydrating Jelly claims that no oil and help lock the hydration of inner skin barrier, prevent skin from outside pollution. The little amount would go for a long way. While using it, I didn’t experience any breakouts. But remember, if you want to try this serum, a little amount is enough. The more amount of it you use, the harder to rinse. And may lead to the desquamation of horniness. Step two: La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 Cream will play the role of hydration locker. As we all know, the process of water evaporation happens quickly. To build a strong wall is literally important. Most face creams are thick and nutrient. I admit that this kind of function is good. But during the period, refreshing, useful, and calming are necessary. B5 cream meets all expectations. Due to the thick creamy texture, it is strong enough to lock all nutrients. It’s doing good for calming my pimples. If I keep using it on my acne scars during the period, scars will tend to disappear or vanish, which is surprising. Step three: To apply eye cream is always my last step. Because eye around the skin is too sensitive to general care. So I choose Lancôme renergie eye. During the awkward period, my eye around the skin seems more sensitive than before. The dry lines and wrinkles are obviously during the period. Besides that, puffiness and inflamed eyes become my problems. This eye cream is not thick, creamy texture, and easy to spread. It some kind removed my puffiness. Hydration is ok. I could feel the firming function actually. Here is the simplest and most useful skincare routine for me during the period.
