The HGs of facial mists that change the game!
The HGs of facial mists that change the game!
Ok— ill start this by saying: you’re either a mister or you’re not. You either love using a facial mist, or could care less and do not see the point. I’m here to tell you: no matter the skin type or concerns you have, you can always benefit from added hydration and locking in your precious skincare routine you just spent however long doing. Introducing my two favorite mists, that I use for two entirely different purposes: YTTP adaptogen soothe + hydrate activated mist and AOS molecular savior probiotics repair mist. YTTP Adaptogen soothe + hydrate activated mist is a HOLYGRAIL, game changing, mist for me. This is perfect for sensitive and irritated skin types but oily/normal/combo/& dry can benefit from this one! It claims to be an ultra- fine mist that hydrates, calms visible redness, and evens the look of skin tone with antioxidant- rich adaptogens, hyaluronic acid, and soothing peptides. It is to be “like a serum” in a mist. It definitely has a really refreshing, slightly milky, texture that comes out of the finest mister that I have ever experienced. I really love how cooling and soothing it is on the skin right away and it has really sturdy, beautiful, glass packaging. I use it a few different ways: as a mid day pick-me-up, right after cleansing as more of a toner, in between serum steps to keep my face damp, at the end of my routine to seal everything in, OR my favorite is as a layering serum spray. I like to apply a serum and then layer on this mist as a plumping essence-type delivery. It leaves my skin so hydrated! I highly recommend this for any and all skin types. Allies of Skin molecular savior probiotics repair mist: claims to be a godsend for thirsty skin. It is composed of an alcohol free aloe and rose water base and a reparative blend of probiotics and 6 antioxidants that leave your complexion glowing and dewy. This mist is actually so unique and I will never stop reaching for it. I have never had a mist KEEP THE GLOW like this one does. I religiously use it as a toner after I cleanse, to really pump up the hydration and help my following layers absorb deeper, and also to seal in my routine at the end. I swear nothing keeps my night routine locked down like this mist! I always wake up glowing and still deeply hydrated! That is huge for a dehydrated/dry girl like me. It is also packed with a super complex of brightening ingredients. It does have a slight floral scent to it, but no added fragrance. It comes out of the packaging a little aggressive— so I like to spritz it into my hands and pat into the skin. I highly recommend this mist as well, for all skin types. Do I love both of these mists? YES. But, I have two very different purposes for them and they will both forever be in my collection. Brand Review: Youth to the People
Brand Review: Youth to the People
Hey dudes! Today I’m doing something a little different, by reviewing a BRAND instead of a bunch of products. I wanted to talk about a few key points that this brand values, as well as why I support them and keep buying their products. Keep reading to find out more! PS — this is not sponsored or paid, and none of my YTTP products were gifted by the brand. We’ve never worked together, but I do really enjoy them. You can find most of this info on their website, but I wanted to pull out a few talking points that I find important. When Greg & Joe founded YTTP, they had help from their grandmother Eva & their Aunt Lisa, as well as Greg’s mom, Lisa. Women have always been important to their growth! Youth to the People has always been about the community, supporting non-profits and activists. They work towards inclusion and social change, and often challenge the “status quo.” They work to reduce their carbon footprint and also support young artists in communities! Ethos: — skincare for all, meaning all genders, all skin types, and all people! — consciously sourced ingredients, all made in California and paired with vegan actives — conscious consumption: leaving the world better than you found it — vegan and cruelty free: animals are not ingredients! Sustainability: — glass packaging means it won’t leech chemicals into the product like plastic can, and it can be recycled and reused way more times than plastic! — sustainable formulas that are safe for the environment, even after they are washed down the drain. They always feature diverse groups of people, including ethnicity and age variants, on their website and social media. During the current Covid-19 crisis, they are making appropriate comments online and supporting healthcare and frontline workers. Their products are consistently fantastic. I have used the cleanser, toner, both moisturizers, the oil, and the dream mask. All of them hold up as some of the greatest products I’ve tried, and I am always excited for new launches. The adaptogen cream is rich and soothing, and hydrating like their adaptogen mist. The mist is the perfect pick me up for any time of day! And the dream mask is, well, dreamy. It plumps my skin overnight and doesn’t leave me greasy. The kombucha toner is my holy grail exfoliant as of now, and I don’t see that changing soon. The cleanser is a staple I haven’t had in my routines in a while (I do own a back up) as well as the kale moisturizer. Sometimes I just like trying out new brands! If you haven’t tried anything from YTTP, I suggest you pick up some minis or a kit from their website. They’re truly a remarkable brand, and supporting them = supporting tons of organizations that help marginalized communities and people in need. 5/5 would recommend this brand to everyone!

Empty! Youth to the People Adaptogen mist! 😌
Empty! Youth to the People Adaptogen mist! 😌
I know we’re in 2020 but this product was definitely my favorite of 2019 and I need more this year. My skin is d-ry! The ingredients for this mist blew me away when I read through them such as hyuralonic acid, holy basil, aloe leaf juice, and lactic acid. *chef kiss* The star ingredients to me are ashwagandha, reishi, and rhodiola. (Side note: I take ashwagandha supplements for stress and anxiety) so Ashwagandha is amazing btw. The adaptogen mist is great for moisturizing the skin, calming the skin, and refreshing the skin. You can use this mist in your morning and night skincare routine. I use it in both of mine. The YTTP website suggests 3-6 sprays three times a day. I do 3-4 sprays in my morning routine and 3-4 sprays in my night routine. The way the mist feels on my skin after I wash my face is rejuvenating especially since my skin is dry. It’s very light and has no fragrance. I feel like a misted lil baby plant when I use it. I love it so much and I need a new bottle right now. I’m in tears as I type this. Vegan 🌱 Cruelty free 🐰 Recyclable packaging ♻️ 10/10 tell a friend :D

INGREDIENT SPOTLIGHT: Adaptogens ft YTTP 🍄
INGREDIENT SPOTLIGHT: Adaptogens ft YTTP 🍄
When I accidentally stumbled into Youth To The People’s location on Traction Ave in the LA Arts District last year, I thought I had discovered an artist’s gallery. I didn’t think too much of the brand again until I joined the Cherie community. Because YTTP is basically homegrown in the backyard of my favorite LA neighborhood, I WANTED to love this brand. I wanted to love it when it said it was sustainable and vegan. I loved it more when it donated its proceeds during Covid-19’s early stages and still managed to dish out funds for LGBTQ+ organizations last month. Ethically, I love what YTTP is trying to stand for. After doing some research and trying a couple of their products, however, YTTP is starting to feel more like the “Moon Juice” of skincare. Expensive. Cult-y. Unsubstantiated. Okay but first, what are adaptogens? If you wondered this and struggled to find an answer as I did, you are not alone. As it turns out, “adaptogens” have been adopted by the wellness world as herb/supplements used in alternative medicine to regulate stress and hormones (Maca, Ashwagandha and Reishi to name a few). Dietary supplementation with Ashwagandha have shown to reduce stress. Reishi is a mushroom used in Indian and Chinese medicine as dietary anti-oxidants. While studies may support these adoptogens’ dietary benefits, very little data supports its use in skincare. I didn’t get to try the Kale cleanser but if you want a salad to soak into your face, it’s definitely not going to be in the 15 second cleansing step. I paid $26 for the following sampler bundle: YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Adaptogen Soothe + Hydrate Activated Mist with Reishi + Ashwagandha I didn’t know what to expect from a mist that could be used up in a matter of days, but aside from the fine mist nozzle that I actually enjoyed, I found the ingredients to be overwhelmingly unimpressive. The peptides and Reishi mushroom extract are there. But water is the first ingredient and that’s essentially what I paid for. No changes to my skin at all. The feel didn’t bother me but the product was forgettable. YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream with Ashwagandha + Reishi I actually thoroughly enjoyed the feel of this moisturizer upon application! It feels occlusive enough for a summer moisturizer and is the perfect balance of heaviness. Other than the Ashwagandha + Reishi extracts, the product is formulated with allotoin (soothing), peptides and squalene. The formulation is well thought out but didn’t give me superior results. $58 for 2oz just isn’t justified- it would drain my pocket too quickly! Is YTTP really for its people? While I am impressed by YTTP’s mission, the brand doesn’t really consider the inaccessibility of their price points in the name of giving youth “to the people”. If skincare really is for all skin colors and types, it would consider the socioeconomic disparities that plague our communities. Cheers 🥂

Brand Spotlight: Youth to the People
Brand Spotlight: Youth to the People
If you’ve been following my posts, you know how much love I have for Youth to the People’s skincare products, and I’m here to say that love extends to the brand itself. ♻️ environmental consciousness ♻️ All of YTTP’s packaging comes in glass bottles that are reusable or recyclable, and their box packaging is made from post-consumer, recyclable paper. The clean glass bottles let the gorgeous products speak for themselves while minimizing waste. In addition to all this, I love how straightforward their packaging is - if drives me crazy when the volume of a product looks doubled because of all the extra packaging a brand threw on to make it look fancy. YTTP also strongly encourages their customers to reuse packaging by refilling travel containers from the full size product and even offer a 16oz refill bottle for their cleanser so you don’t have to keep buying new pump bottles. YTTP also places a huge focus on sustainably sourcing the products inside their bottles! 🌈 social consciousness 🌈 One of YTTP’s mottos is “skincare for all.” They actively work to find models of all different ages and skin colors to ensure that everyone sees themselves represented by their skincare products. They don’t shy away from difficult conversations and seek out ways to give diverse voices a platform. Every June, they create a pride month collaboration fundraiser produc and year round, they are committed to giving a percentage of their proceeds to support non-profits and working in their local LA community. 🥗 ingredient consciousness 🥗 YTTP isn’t just out here trying to crank out new products for us to fill our shelves with. They are very ingredient focused and take their inspiration from the same foods that are good for us when we eat them. They craft each new product taking inspiration from these ingredients and working to target specific results. Their products are vegan and cruelty free - basically an organic salad for your face. 💫 my superstars 💫 YTTP has three starter sets for oily/combo/dry skin that can get you started with a regimen specialized for you, but used correctly, all of their products are formulated to work for all skin types (so you could be like me and just use them all...sorry wallet!!) That said, my all time favorites are the Superfood Cleanser and the Hydrate and Glow Oil. If I had to, I could probably get by with just these two products. They are so simple, gentle and effective. The cleanser nourishes and cleans with no stripping and the oil is lightweight and packed with SO many hydrating ingredients like prickly pear, maqui, and squalane. More realistically, when I travel I bring these two and a mini size of one or both of their moisturizers which is also my fallback routine anytime my skin is flaring up! Have you tried youth to the people? What’s your favorite product? Any questions about the brand? PS. @CheriePicksince you asked - if I haven’t made it clear already, YTTP is my favorite skincare brand 😉

💻 my workday essentials 💻
💻 my workday essentials 💻
Being at a desk all day can be a real drain on our bodies for so many reasons. We all know sitting for long periods of time is bad for health, but air conditioned office environments can also be extremely drying and hard on our skin. In addition to starting my day off with a hydrating routine, there are a few things I keep at my desk to keep myself refreshed and pampered all day long. 1) Face mist Face mists are the perfect mid-day pick me up. They’re a great way to keep your face hydrated and when I use a face mist I really feel like I’m taking care of myself. So many of them are packed with hydrating ingredients that it’s almost a whole mini skin care routine in itself! 2) Hand Cream I love a good hand cream all the time, but especially these days while we’re washing our hands and sanitizing SO often. I prefer hand creams that are really thick and take a minute or so to sink in...i mean you have to take a break from typing for that right? 3) Lip Balm I use lip balm liberally all. day. long. Hydrated lips make me feel instantly healthier and like my whole body is hydrated! I keep one with me absolutely everywhere I go. In addition to these three essentials, I always have a water bottle on hand because all this external hydration would be wasted if I weren’t also hydrating internally!! I also keep a mini spf at my desk to make reapplying throughout the day easy, especially right before I begin my commute home. How do you practice self-care at your desk or on the go?!
