Why It's SpecialI read a blog post that mentioned this skincare line, specifically raving about the CoQ-10 toner. I had to try it! My skincare routine is very simple and I wasn't using a toner previously. My skin was oily in the T zone and dry everywhere else. Since using the toner for over a month I can really see a difference. My skin truly seems more balanced! I use it morning and night by just putting a little into my palm and patting it on (no cotton ball) before applying moisturizer.
What It IsIndie Lee CoQ-10 Toner hydrates and balances the skin with Hyaluronic Acid and Aloe Vera leaving the skin primed and protected.
What Else You Need to KnowInspired by Japanese essences, this non-drying, hyaluronic acid- and aloe vera-based formula is your perfect post-cleanse step. Antioxidant coenzyme Q10 and sage protect skin against environmental stressors, while chamomile, cucumber, and papaya extracts leave skin feeling calm and refreshed.

The system that replaced my retinoid!
Hey Cherie fam! So as some of you know I embarked on a new skin journey around adult acne. I was on a Derm prescribed regimen of cerave, epiduo, and spironolactane (see my posts from sept-October 2020 for more deetz) to help combat my acne. By October, my skin had improved a lot! Texture was down significantly, but I felt like the retinoid (epiduo) was making my skin super sensitive. I was prone to inflammatory acne (you know just red bumps, nothing to pop type) and I felt like the retinoid also destroyed my skin barrier because my eczema was really flaring up on my face. So I made the scary decision to drop my retinoid! I was scared to do so because it helped with my acne so much, and I really did not want it to come back. But I needed something less damaging to my skin, and better for my eczema. I did a bunch of research and knew to keep my acne at bay I needed: acids in my routine still to exfoliate nourishment like ceramides or niancinamide to help my skin barrier deep moisture but NOT pore clogging So, one thing I did was add Heraux - Heraux Molecular Anti-Inflammaging Serum in the AM to help repair my skin, but I still needed something for my acne! Enter CLEARSTEM an acne system developed by a dermatologist duo who both suffered from acne in their adult lives. This duo wanted to create a skincare line that treated acne and aging at the same time! The line is also cruelty free, vegan, has no hormone disrupting ingredients I was lucky to receive a PR package from them, so I dedicated the months of December and January to really give this system a shot! My routine was: AM: wash with CLEAR STEM - GENTLECLEAN – Vitamin Infused Calming Wash this wash had a nice citrus scent and is super gentle on the skin. I use it with my PMD clean for 60 seconds and it’s helped with inflammation ! tone with INDIE LEE - CoQ-10 Toner more daytime antioxidants! serum Heraux - Heraux Molecular Anti-Inflammaging Serum to help repair damaged skin and do day time anti inflammaging moisture/SPF EVERYDAY HUMANS - Rosé S'il Vous Plait SPF30 Gentle Mineral Sunscreen I LOVE this sunscreen. It’s actually quite hydrating and I don’t really need to use a moisturizer before! PM: wash with CLEAR STEM - VITAMINscrub – Antioxidant-Infused Scrub Cleanser lightly exfoliates skin and smells so fresh serum CLEAR STEM - CLEARITY – AHA Mandelic Acid Serum + Vitamin C this baby does a lot of the work in keeping acne at bay. It has a nice consistency and I leave it on for 15 mins before I use the next serum. serum CLEAR STEM - Cellrenew Collagen Infusion Serum ( Anti-Acne + Anti-Aging Stem Cell Serum) this serum is so hydrating I love it! I feel like I’m putting nutrients right back into my skin YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream

How-To: Heal and Protect Skin After Picking! ❤️
Skin picking generally affects most of us. From popping one pimple, scratching an eczema patch too hard, or dermatillomania, many of us have experienced the dread of making a pimple worse than it was before. These are some of my favorite products, tips and tricks for healing skin and keeping it safe during this gentle state. After the deed is done, it’s important to avoid actives and wash with a very gentle cleanser. My preferred is Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser due to the minimal and skin healing ingredients list, lack of fragrance and no harsh stripping feeling. I wash for 60 seconds and rise with cool water, patting dry very gently with a microfiber towel. Next, I ice my skin for around four minutes to bring down the swelling and inflammation (similar to icing a burn or a sprained ankle). I constantly move the ice cube as facial skin is delicate, but concentrate it in areas that I picked or that experience redness and inflammation or pain. Bonus tip: you don’t have to just use water. Freeze green tea and aloe cubes for the added bonus of healing and inflammation fighting ingredients. After icing, I use a gentle hydrating toner. The key is to introduce humectants (hydrated skin is happy skin) and other inflammation fighting ingredients like green tea and COQ10 (an antioxidant) to the skin to help the healing process start immediately. I then layer on my favorite moisturizer or oil— use something you trust with no essential oils, drying ingredients, actives or fragrance. My fav is pure jojoba oil, it’s super gentle, pure, and antimicrobial, with no additives. It leaves my skin healthy and supple, as it has high amounts of vitamin A and E. It locks in the hydration I’ve added with the toner, and acts as a gentle occlusive. Furthermore it doesn’t overwhelm my picked skin with additives that burn and sting. Lastly, I layer on a variety of thicker products in areas that need it to heal my skin depending on the damage. If the pimple is still active, I use a peach slices - Acne Spot Dots to keep it clean from further bacteria and to suck any remaining gunk out. If I have scabs or scratches, I use either skinfix - Eczema+ Dermatitis Face Balm or TOPICALS - Like Butter Hydrating Mask which both employ collodial oatmeal along with other barrier repair ingredients to heal, hydrate, and further protect skin.

How to get a PERFECT makeup base
Hey y’all!! I hope you’re having a great week so far. I have to be honest...I haven’t been doing my makeup much during quarantine which has been a bummer because it’s so FUN! Over the years I’ve gone through phases of full coverage makeup, light coverage makeup, no makeup, cream/powder...you know the drill. Right now my skin type is combination dry with acne and rosacea. My skin tone is very fair and pink compared to the rest of my body. Due to my conditions, I try to create a dewy base but still enough coverage to balance out my red spots without having super full coverage matte makeup that clings to my dry spots. So I decided to challenge myself to use a SUPER full coverage matte foundation to see if I could make it look skin-like...and long lasting...challenge accepted!! Here are the steps I took and the products I used to achieve this look: 1. EXFOLIATE. I usually am not a huge fan of physically exfoliation but if I plan on wearing makeup I usually use a gentle exfoliating cleanser. Today I used the Microfoliant from Dermalogica dermalogica - Daily Superfoliant which is a charcoal-like powder which, when mixed with water, turns into a super gentle paste to slough off dry, dead skin. 2. HYDRATE. I used a hydrating toner, hydrating serum, and a facial oil underneath, as well as a hydrating makeup primer. I have not been using the hydrating serum long enough to give you a rating but I really like the other products! Other than that I am no longer supporting Milk Makeup due to their internal racism in their corporate setting. INDIE LEE - CoQ-10 Toner WILD MAGIC BEAUTY - MOON LIGHT - Goji Berry + Sea Buckthorn Facial Oil Allies of Skin - Triple Hyaluronic Antioxidant Hydration SerumMilk MAKEUP - Hydro Grip Primer 3. CONCEALER FIRST. Yup. I said it. I like using my concealer underneath my foundation and letting it sit for 5-10 minutes...I learned this trick from Jackie Aina on YouTube and it has saved my looks! I conceal my red areas, under eyes, and my breakouts pre-foundation. The concealer I used today is the URBAN DECAY - All Nighter Waterproof Full-Coverage Concealer in the shade fair neutral. It’s SO DRYING. But it stays in place! 4. FOUNDATION. Ok. I used the same line’s foundation URBAN DECAY - All Nighter Liquid Foundation in the shade 1.5. I would rate this lower because it’s a little too drying but I mixed in a drop of the Wild Magic Beauty facial oil and MY GOD! It transformed and wore like a whole other foundation. 5. PRO TIP! Before moving on to the rest of your face, use a setting spray on your base. Let it dry completely!! This will make your makeup appear more skin-like and wear longer. 6. FINISH YOUR FACE. Ta-Da! Now you have a full face that will last all night and doesn’t crack or crease. #CheriePartner

the time has come... REVIEW MY ROUTINE!
hey Cherie fam! i finally decided it was time to post my daily/weekly routine!! i’ve curated this routine over a looooong period of time, and i think i’ve almost got it right! so here it is: TWICE DAILY: i like to double cleanse, so i always start with the FATCO - Cleansing Oil for Normal/Combo Skin i’ve used this oil on and off for the last few years, and i’ve really been loving it lately! it moisturizes and helps remove makeup, dirt, and any oils my skin has produced during the day. then i go with my Neutrogena - Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser i like this cleanser a lot because i feel like it actually cleanses my skin, unlike a lot of cleansers i’ve tried that only feel like they’re cleaning the top layer of my skin. this one gets deep! next, i use a few drops of the no b.s. - Vitamin C + E Serum i really like this serum because i feel like it’s helped even out my skin tone and texture and it doesn’t take forever to soak into my skin! as the packaging recommends, i leave this to sit for about 5 minute for moving on to my next step. however, during those 5 minutes, i’ll apply my VERSED - VACATION EYES Brightening Eye Gel this is the FIRST under eye product i’ve ever used that REALLY WORKS to get rid of my dark circles!! magic in a tube if you ask me. after those 5 minutes have passed, i’ll use 3-5 spritzes of the INDIE LEE - CoQ-10 Toner this is the newest product in my routine, but i’m in LOVE! i’ve been looking for a great toner for a while now, and this one, which happened to be a gift, is so great! it moisturizes and sets my skin without leaving me feeling stripped or sticky. finally, i moisturize with my all time fave: Neutrogena - Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel Moisturizer this moisturizer keeps my skin hydrated without being sticky or oily. i would highly recommend for those with dry, tires skin! EVERY MORNING: in the morning, i like to use the Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Water Gel Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 it’s a really great, really affordable SPF that doesn’t make my skin feel greasy or grimy. ONCE A WEEK: i’ve seen a lot of mixed opinions about The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution , but i’m a fan! i think it leaves my skin feeling great, and not stripped at all which is pretty common for me with most chemical exfoliants. i usually use this peel after cleansing, but before the rest of my routine. so, what do you think?? i’d love to hear your compliments, comments, and critiques on my routine.

My Mental Wellness Improved Through My Self AcceptanceWhen I was around 13 or 14 years old, I remember routinely taking one of my older sister’s black eyeliner pencils before school every morning. I’d arrive early so that I could slip away to the girl’s bathroom to apply a single black line to my eyelids. My parents didn’t allow me to wear any makeup at the time. Although this smudgy line on my eyelids didn’t make me look all that much different, I never felt comfortable at school without it. My teenage mind convinced myself that I needed some sort of cosmetic symbol in order to appropriately express my femininity. Up until that point in my life, society had told girls that looked like me - tall, Black, and with kinky hair - that we somehow weren’t as beautiful as the other girls. For far too long, I believed it too.Feb. 17
