guess I'm just a PLAY DATE to you
This shade is called Play date, which I think is an adorable name for a nail paint. It is a really pretty purple polish. You just need 2 coats for an ultimate finish. I love to top it off with Essie gel top coat.

3 Most Common Nail Mistakes You’ll Want To Avoid &How To Fix Them!
Since the pandemic started, I’ve had to do my own nails more often. My go-to nail salon has been closed for months. DIY manicures can be a little annoying if you don’t know what you’re doing. I’m telling you my mistakes so you can learn from what I did wrong.
My Top 3 Nail Mistakes:
1. Only using one coat of polish
I’m the first to admit it, I can be pretty lazy, but one coat of nail polish just doesn’t cut it. I know doing two coats takes more effort and adds to the drying time, but it’s so worth it in the end.
2. Not focusing enough on nail care
Nail care is a game-changer! You need to buff, file, and cut your nails before applying polish to get the best results. Buffing really helps smooth out any ridges or inconsistencies on the nail bed.
3. Using a bad top & base coat
Do you know that glossy top coat you get from at salons that makes your nails look super shiny and perfect? I didn’t use to care about which base or topcoat I used. I would just use the cheapest one available at the drug store. What a mistake!
My Must-Try Nail Products:
● Seche Vite Base & Top Coat - The Sechevete base and top coats give you that salon-worthy shine you want from a DIY mani. Plus, it helps dry the nails super fast so you can get on with your day!
● Nail Buff - This thing was only $1, and it’s helped transform the way I give myself manicures!
● A glass nail file - Did you know glass nail filers are supposed to be healthier for your natural nails?
The Final Look
I did this fun look for the 4th of July! I filed and buffed my nails with the white buffer and topped them with two coats of my favorite nail polishes by Essie!

Easy Halloween/Fall Nails 💅🏻
I love this color combination for fall or Halloween.
The burnt Orange glitter color is by China Glaze and called Payback’s A Witch.
The Black color is by OPI and is called Black Onyx.
It took 2 coats of each polish to achieve full coverage. Since neither polish is gel, I used a Gel Top coat by Sally Hansen to achieve the longest lasting look possible.
I got both of these at CVS for $9.99 each

When did OPI become so lame????
When I was growing up and would go near a place that gave many and peddles, they used OPI products. I tended to avoid it because it is more expensive. But I really wanted some olive green nail polish because I wear that color a lot and decided to buy this.
First, this color is not blue; it appears in the photo. Its a dark, iridescent teal green. Still pretty, but not at all the light blue as depicted. But its a pretty color. The purple one is nice, too.
However!! 2 coats flaked off after less than a day!! I don't know if it's because it was baking in a warehouse for too long or the actual polish isn't made well. I have never been so disappointed in nail polish before. After three coats of barely-there coverage, it finally started to look like my nails were painted. I put on a topcoat, as I always do, and one day later, the polish had already started chipping. I applied a few more coats, and again, one day later, chipping and wear on the tips. And the polish was not of quality whatsoever. I thought OPI was a high-quality nail polish. This was not. I purchased the third color with the same problem—the polish streaks. There was no smooth application period. What I did get on my nails looked terrible. It was blotchy & I removed it. I was disappointed in light of what I paid. I don't recommend OPI & will not purchase their brand again. I think I'll stick with my much cheaper and more reliable Sally Hansen Miracle Gel or Insta Dry from now on. Just goes to show you that price does not always mean better quality. I will not buy any product from OPI anymore.

Perfect nude colour for fair/light skin tones
I was really surprised with this nail colour, and how much I love it. This is going to be my every day nude colour for when I’m being indecisive about my nail colour. This is in the shade “buns up”. I have very fair skin, and I feel like this could work for fair to light skin tones. They also have a darker shade in this line called “take the espresso” which I feel like that could work for darker skin tones pretty well. The polish performed average, a few chips by the end of 7 days. Overall, I will continue to wear this!!essie - Expressie Quick-Dry Nail Polish

💅🏽The Best Quick Dry Nail Polish💅🏽
I used to swear by the Sally Hansen - Insta Dri Nail Color And to be fair I never painted my nails too much, but this was the most available quick drying nail polish. This polish actually takes quite awhile to dry and begins chipping in 2-3 days. I usually do 2 coats and I have to wait 30 mins- 1 hour or so to make sure it’s completely dry.
Today I tried the essie - Expressie Quick-Dry Nail Polish and omg, it dried so quick and application is so very easy. The formula is thinner than the sally Hansen but still contains a lot of color which helps with how quickly it dries. I was able to do a second coat in 10 mins and the second coat dried quickly. Bc of the quick dry time I find the nails just come out so much better and there’s less of a chance to smudge.

My favorite at home “gel” manicure!
I’ve gotten so much better at painting my nails after not going into a salon in months, and this combo of products allows my manicure to last a full 2 weeks. I haven’t ventured into gel polishes that require a UV lamp, but the OPI Infinite Shine formula is the same quality.
OPI - Infinite Shine Prostay Primer
I had never used a nail primer, or even really a base coat, before trying this one, but I definitely feel like it helps the polish stick to the nail better. I’ve tried the infinite shine polish without the primer and my nails chipped much faster.
OPI - Long Lasting Nail Polish Infinite Shine 2 this is the shade “engagement to be” which is described as a pale lilac, but appears more grayish purple in person. It’s a beautiful neutral shade and very glossy. The wide brush helps with easy application, and the formula is thick enough to not run, but still allow for buildable coverage through multiple coats. With this particular shade I use 3 coats, but most of the collection only requires 2 coats
Seche - Vite Dry Fast Clear Top Coat
Super quick drying but also super chip resistant! Makes my nails super glossy but isn’t thick or gummy at all. My nails dry significantly faster with this top coat than any other I’ve ever tried

Pumpkin Patch Inspo nails
The polishes I used are ranging between main stream big box and indie companies.
OPI is usually very consistent, this orange is from their fall 2019 collection. It screams pumpkin orange to me and applies effortlessly.
Cirque Colors has been one of my favourite indie brands, I love how interactive they are on IG. There was a learning curve to working with their polish but once you master it, they’re a dream to work with.
I have to admit my bias with Holo Taco, as the brand creator, Cristine (Simplynailogical) is a idol of mine but she knows how to create great products. Orange drink is from her Rainbow Summer collection, while at the time I felt more pumpkin vibes than summer vibes, it reflects fall to me beautifully. It’s also is easy to work with. Linear holo polish can be thicker than the average polish do to the pigments they are trying to pack into it but, again, once you get the hang of it, it’s a solid polish to work with.

Fall Nail Wardrobe 💅🏻
With fall here, I love switching up my nail colors to compliment my outfits and keep my hands on theme with the seasons. Here are my favorite polishes for fall!
Starting, deborah lippmann - Gel Lab Pro Nail Color I love a cool/neutral toned red, and this delivers on all fronts. It’s creamy and opaque and glides on nails easily with little running, meaning little clean-up. It compliments all skin tones, and looks great from light to deep nails. It’s very festive, but classy for all occasions and can be dressed up or down— it looks so cute with fall neutrals like caramel or camel colours! I go about 12-13 days without chipping or peeling, and it stays very shiny.
Next is OPI - Infinite Shine Nail Polish Strengthening in Ginger’s Revenge. This is a deep blood red, one of my favorites for fall. I love the bougie and spooky feel it gives, while being dark and neutral enough to match with all of my outfits. I love wearing it with black and gunmetal/silver accessories to really amp up the cool vampy vibe.
Third, a nice berry is a must! essie - Longwear Nail Polish is super shiny and doesn’t chip until about 11 days in. It looks polished and put together, but still super fun. If I want something pink hued I’ll go for this, as it’s still red enough to not look out of place with my other fall colours. It looks super professional, and I love wearing it on my shorter natural nails at the start of fall for a nice transition shade into darker colours without feeling too vampy. Chipping is not an issue I noticed, I took the colour off before any happened.
FLOSS GLOSS - Candy Paint Job is a deep sparkly grape purple, and is to die for. I love this for holiday parties or New Years when I don’t want a traditional red. I always get comments on how pretty this is, it looks like liquid glitter on the nail even when dry. Wearing white or black with these nails is elite and really lets them stand out with sparkle and shine. Chipping appears around day 8.
For lighter colours, gray and sky blue are a must. Here I have butter LONDON - Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer in gray, and OLIVE&JUNE - KMC which is a light cool blue. Both of these go great with warm tones, as the cool of the gray and blue plays off of more orange-y spice tones and looks super luxurious. Chipping doesn’t appear until about day 12.
Lastly, neutrals! I’ve included two— one super sheer that goes with everything, and a warmer brownish-mauve colour. Though they’re titled OLIVE&JUNE - The Spring Set I use them as transitional neutrals for fall as well. They can be played up in warmth, or made to look sheer and natural on all nails. These colours immediately give a classy natural look to all nails during the season of neutrals, and remind me of a nice warm sweater or scarf.

THREE TIPS FOR SALON-WORTHY NAILS
So here’s the thing - I get asked ALL THE TIME how much I paid to get my nails done. The kicker? I don’t pay to get them done - I’ve done my own nails for YEARS and I’ve perfected my technique for making them look like I got them done in the salon - even though they’re just regular nail polish. Here are my top three tips for perfect nails (no more mistakes)
➡️Sit at a table to do your nails
You have GOT TO STOP trying to paint your nails while sitting on your couch or on the floor (unless you’re giving yourself a pedicure). Painting your nails while sitting at a table ensures that your hands are on a flat, stable surface so you have more control of the nail polish and are less likely to flood your cuticles, or look like a child tried to paint your nails.
➡️Always use top coat and base coat
A quality top and base coat will make your nail polish look better and last longer. It’s honestly what matters more than the brand of polish you use - it will make dollar store, drugstore, or department store nail polish ALL look equally amazing and salon-worthy.
Seche - Vite Dry Fast Clear Top Coat
duri - Rejuvacote 1 Nail Growth System
➡️Don’t overload your brush with polish
Trying to get a mani done quicker by painting a too thick layer on of polish is totally counter-intuitive. First, you’re more likely to do a messy paint job because you can’t control the polish and it will just go everywhere. Second, it’s going to take AGES to dry - much longer than thinner two coats of polish!
These are my three top tips for salon-worthy nails - and they’ve never let me down! The shade of polish in the photo is Essie Van D’Go, a gorgeous peach shade.

Halloween Nails on a Budget🖤
I wanted to have cool nails for Halloween but given I’m not doing anything or going anywhere, I’m not really trying to spend any money. Here’s how I got this look with the bare minimum that I had at home.
This is how to create an ombré look with polish and glitter. It’s super fast and simple.
👻 Items needed
1. Nail Polish Remover (if you have old polish on)
2. Nail Clippers/File
3. Dark Color Polish
4 Glittery Eye Shadow
5. Top Coat
✨1. Remove any old nail polish. Go on now. Take some time for YOU today. Don’t paint over it just because this color is darker. I know. It’s tempting.
🖤2. Wash your hands after that with soap because that polish remover scent is STRONG.
🎃 3. Use nail clippers to make yourself a bit more even. File if needed.
✨4. Paint your nails a dark color. It’s ok if you’re out of the lines. After a few minutes in the shower, you can use a nail and pick off any excess like it never happened. I used Aila’s Mister Pookies. It’s like a purple/brown color and I used two coats. It generally lasts awhile. It’s pretty thin as a polish but does the job.
🖤 5. When it’s no longer super wet and is touchable but still shapable, gently use a finger and lightly tap a bit of eye shadow on the tip of the nail and lightly brush up to get the ombré effect. Repeat on each finger until you’re content with the look.
🎃6. Use a top coat to seal it in and you are done!
🌙 I used Diet Cola from the Conspiracy Palette for this look. I love this palette and the colors are amazing, especially for Halloween. It’s super creamy and blends gorgeously as a shadow but also works for this!

What’s your fav thing about nail polish
Personally, I love that I can get inspired by so many talented people from around the world! It’s a great way to connect through our common hobby. 💙✨
Favorite Drugstore Nude Nail Polish 💅🏼
I’ve searched for so long to find a quality nude polish that didn’t look weird when applied and I’ve finally found it!
✨This nail polish is the Sally Hansen Insta Dri Polish in “Buff and Tumble”. It costs about $4.47 so it’s a great price for a decent sized bottle of polish (0.31 fl oz).
✨This comes in a glass triangular bottle with a thicker brush that is a great length and a wide rectangular shape which I like for more control, coverage and easier application.
✨This polish dries quickly and lasts a while even without top coat. It also goes on smoothly and is a quality polish, meaning it is pigmented properly so it’s not transparent at all with enough product. I tend to do two lighter coats but if you do one thick coat, that would work too! I also feel like this color is truly great for any occasion. I’d definitely repurchase and purchase some of their other colors too in this line. A great buy!
