What’s up with chickpea flour & acne?
Today we are getting DEEP with Drunk Elephant’s Babyfacial & it’s star ingredient chickpea flour. Now...you might be thinking “Why chickpea flour? Why is chickpea flour listed right on the front of this bottle?” & I am here to TELL YOU about it. Buckle up. We have a story time! I have sensitive, acne-prone skin so I was really excited to use babyfacial—in fact, so excited that I used to use it every single week for months...I ultimately destroyed my skin barrier by overusing acids and had to rebuild it over time, but I still like using babyfacial every month or two and chickpea flour is one of the reasons why. So let’s get into it: WHAT IS CHICKPEA FLOUR? Chickpea flour is also known as “besan.” It’s actually usually used for cleansing purposes. Besan has anti-inflammatory properties, can stop excess sebum production, and has ZINC in it which can kill infections/bacteria that cause acne. WHAT! I think mentioning chickpea flour makes total sense for Drunk Elephant since it’s a chemical exfoliating mask—the chickpea flour is present to help soothe any irritation the mask may bring. I do have to be completely honest with you guys and say that I don’t believe the chickpea flour is a savior in this formula. Even when I use this as a flash mask I almost always experience a burning sensation after 5 minutes so I usually have to use it as a 2-3 minute mask. I still really enjoy it otherwise though! It is very powerful, with a high concentration in acids. I believe chickpea flour or “besan” is a great ingredient and I look for it now in beauty products because of Babyfacial. Due to my experiences with Babyfacial I must rate it 4/5 stars.
Get That Baby Skin!
I adore and support vegan beauty products and I have been using a few from Drunk Elephant for the past two months now and I have really enjoyed them (obsessed with the Virgin Marula Facial Oil) . One of my favorite is this TLC Sukari Babyfacial mask who contains AHA and BHA. For the ones not familiar with these two hydroxy acid, AHA helps to gently peel the surface of the skin for more evenly skin, when BHA can go deeper in the skin to remove dead cells and excess sebum. You will need 2-3 pumps out of the jar to cover your whole face with the mask. My skin is a bit sensitive and I definitely experienced tingling the first minute (packaging mentions it can happen so I wasn’t too worried) I left the mask on for 20 minutes as indicated, but honestly I would recommend less time for very sensitive skin, then rinsed it with warm water. Et voila! My face was a little pink for a couple of hours afterwards as you can see on my last picture (so I’d rather do the mask at night), but my skin totally felt smoother and brighter as a result. I woke up the day after with a baby skin! It was so worth the redness!! 😘

My nightly routine w/retinal
Every night I choose a facial wash depending on how my face is feeling and what I’d like to be using. When I will be working with retinal in my routine, I like to start with a nice gentle exfoliation like TATCHA - The Deep Cleanse Exfoliating Cleanser It’s a gentle enough cleanser to use every day but I choose to use it 3-4 times a week. It’s a beautiful light scent and I love how soft it is on my skin, yet manages to exfoliate. I definitely recommend this cleanser if you’re a bit worried about working with physical exfoliants. It’s nothing to fear. 💜 Then again as I stated I’m using my retinal tonight so I want to be sure to have a very hydrated face. Hydration is key for me as retinal can be very drying for my skin. I use a lot of hydrating toners and essences to really plump up my skin before adding the retinal. These would be TATCHA - The Essence Plumping Skin Softener & INDIE LEE - CoQ-10 Toner & YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superberry Hydrate + Glow Oil (these are just some I use) They all give my face the layer of hydration needed to move forward. Then I come in with Medik8 - Crystal Retinal I’m loving the retinal as I’ve only had small white heads surface and easily disappear. I did notice my skin becoming drier when I went up to level 6 but again, found a way to combat that. I’ve only been working with retinal a short few months so I have no results to share at this time. And finally when I am working with a strong active (such as retinal) I lather my face in moisturizer. I had yet to find a night time face mask that worked for me until I discovered this beauty YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask It’s the perfect consistency for my skin. Never a heavy, oily, sticky feeling. Just sinks in and keeps my face locked in moisture. And all the added benefits, it’s heart throbbing 💗 get excited over this one ya’ll! It’s good! And I always use an eye cream, day or night. And am loving FARMACY - Cheer Up Brightening Vitamin C Eye Cream with Acerola Cherry I’ve noticed a remarkable difference in the dark circles and just tone of my skin all around my eye. Hope me sharing my night time retinal routine can be helpful for some of you. I’m always here to answer questions
My Youth to the People Collection
•Adaptogen soothe + hydrate activated mist: a very fine hydrating mist. I use this as a toner and love how it makes my skin look! •Kale + green tea spinach vitamins superfood cleanser: this is my new favorite cleanser! It cleanses my skin without drying it out! •Kombucha + 11% AHA exfoliating power toner: I use this toner every other night and I wake up with such nice bright skin! One of the few toners I feel actually does something. It does apply slightly sticky but when I put all my other products on it goes away. •Adaptogen deep moisture cream: I’ve only tried this out a few time so I don’t have a full opinion yet but it definitely felt lightweight and sunk into my skin nicely. •Superberry hydrate + glow dream mask: this is by far my favorite night mask. It makes my skin so hydrated and glowy. These are all super star products and essentials in my skincare routine! I recommend these products 100%!

Do’s and don’ts of dry skin
As I’ve posted previously we all know at this point that I have dry skin. I’d love to talk about some do’s and dont’s for others with skin like mine! Do layer moisturizers! I usually start with a light gel like cream. I let that sink in then go for a heavier richer cream before topping off with an oil Don’t be afraid to use oil in the summer! My skin is dry year round, it gets worse in winter but I still benefit from a nice light oil to lock in moisture Don’t use drying clay masks too often! I love a good clay mask but nothing sucks the moisture out like a clay mask. Use sparingly! Do use chemical exfoliators, just because your skin is dry doesn’t mean you won’t breakout or have closed comodones (I know I do) I use an aha/BHA mask to clear out pores Don’t cleanse with hot water. Cool water is better and doesn’t dry out the skin as much. I’m still guilty of this one on occasion 😆 Do use hydrating masks! I love a good leave on mask that really takes its time to sink into the skin. Wash Your Face the RIGHT way!
Everyone says the Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser is very affordable and cleanses well, but I don't think so. I will not repurchase this product. I use LANCÔME - Advanced Génifique Yeux Light-Pearl Eye Illuminator Youth Activating Concentrateevery morning and night and I'll pair it with the double extract serum at night to accelerate its absorption. I haven't really had any acne breakouts since starting to use it. clarisonic - MIA 2 FACIAL CLEANSING BRUSH I wash my face with this device about 1 to 2 times a week. I cannot use it too often because overusing it will damage my dry skin. Every time I use it, I focus on drawing circles around the nose area and after using it for a while, you'll find a reduction in blackheads. I use FARMACY - Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask twice a week. You can use Saborino's face mask sheets daily. My skin feels great after using them. Although the Saborino face mask is supposed to be used in the morning, I use it mostly at night because I think using masks before applying makeup is harmful to the skin. I try to keep my morning skincare routine as simple as possible and perform thorough skincare at night.
Worth the hype?
Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque dermalogica - Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque This is a must-have all year round. It is great as an SOS face mask for instant recovery after staying up late, making my skin feel delicate and translucent.👍 The masque cream will gradually oxidize and deepen in color when used. Filorga Meso-MaskFILORGA - 'Meso-Mask' Anti-Wrinkle Lightening Mask It brightens up my skin but not as naturally as how the Dermalogica mask brightens it. I will not be repurchasing it because it contains titanium dioxide.👎 Farmacy Honey Mask FARMACY - Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask The mask emulsified after massaging it as instructed. It felt warm when applied, which made me excited to see the results. However, it started to tingle a little as I was washing it off. It might be due to its deep cleansing properties but it's too irritable for sensitive skins. After washing it off, I felt no difference, while the tingling sensation lasted a few minutes. I will not repurchase this product.👎

Not worth the hype
Am I the only one who thinks this 'Jet Lag' mask is somewhat overrated ? I don't like the way SUMMER FRIDAYS - Jet Lag Mask is advertised. Many buy it because it's name is appealing (& perhaps buy it bc they think you can wear it on the plane, like I did) and it's trending, but it's literally just a thick mask. The founders of this product claim to use it as an "overnight mask" or as a "hydrating primer under makeup", but I'd disagree: 1) It is way too thick to be used as a primer and I don't see how any makeup would stay on top of this mask without moving around. 👎🏻 (also it just feels like my face is being suffocated and needs to breathe) 2) It contains peppermint oil, orange peel oil, and corn mint oil which are known to cause irritation to the skin. 🚫 (if left on too long) Many claim to love this product but if you have sensitive, easily irritated, or acne prone skin it's not the best product to use. I'd only leave it on the face for 10 minutes and follow by a thorough rinse. I will honestly say that it does leave your face looking hydrated and glowy when it's on the skin. But there are better products out there that are cheaper (luckily I got the travel size). Again I'm not saying it caused acne or redness on my skin but it easily can if I were to leave it on too long. I will say that the color and packaging are super cute and I love the aesthetic Summer Fridays is going for. What are your thoughts about this mask?
Fixin’ for some Jet Lag
“Drench your stressed out skin in antioxidant rich hydration for an instant spa glow. This one of a kind hydrating cream face mask featuring proven, skin-loving ingredients that deliver hydration and a radiant complexion in just one application.” performance | full star | hydrate, oh yes for sure! I honestly didn’t have luck using this as a 30 min mask on clean skin. Definitely prefer using this as a moisturizer or sleeping mask. I only use this about once a week, or if I’m feeling dehydrated texture | full star | literally the perfect thicc, yet not heavy; sinks in yet provides a protective barrier; everything you look for in a cream, yet six times better scent | full star | subtle fresh minty, so lovely, no weird lotiony smell packaging | full star | okkk you know how I feel about this branding, but I actually am growing fond of the tube, and love their recycling program (actually get a free $25 jet lag after returning five empty whatever’s from them) ingredients | .9 star | natural exfoliation by chestnut seed extract! dis baby is paaacked with ceramides, which help form the skin’s barrier and help skin retain moisture. No synthetic fragrances 🙌🏼 would love to see some organically sourced ingredients though value | .8 star | 1oz $25 , 2.25oz $48, comparably priced to most products, but actually on the lower side if compared to the higher end of the spectrum which is where I believe this product belongs. Already have my second(and third) on order 🤭 Total 5.7 out of 6 stars

Are you troubled by acne, blackheads, and coarse pores? Follow the weekly skincare routine, and you may solve it!
Do you know the skin type could be changed? I was oily-skin type 4 or 5 years ago but now combination type with only T area oil while another area normal. If you are trouble by oily skin, or acne, blackheads, and coarse pores caused by it, you can try my skincare routine. Firstly, you have to know why the skin goes oil. One of the factors is sebaceous glands. When sebaceous glands go active, your skin will secrete oil. Except for metabolism, sebaceous goes active when the skin dehydrated. The other factor is cleansing. If you can not remove the dirt or makeup altogether when washing face, the skin will also secrete oil. Thus, choose the right cleanser and hydration product! You can do deep cleansing once a week (Twice a week is also excellent if needed). My weekly skincare routine is: EVE LOM - Cleanser Multi-award-winning product. The key ingredients are clove oil, eucalyptus oil, hops oil, Egyptian chamomile oil, and cocoa butter, which are all-natural ingredients that are good for cleansing and smoothing. You can put some balm on face and massage for a while (feeling the lotion spreading over as oil). Then, use the muslin cloth of the same brand (In some promotions, you could receive it as a gift) or wash your face with hands. ORIGINS - Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask to Clear Pores It is specialized for clear pores. Active charcoal can draw out deep-dwelling cloggers from the pore. It works better if you use warm towels to open pores first. You can wear the mask for a while. When you start to feel dry, you can wash the mask away. Normal skincare routine. Use product signature for hydration, for example, ORIGINS - Mega-Mushroom Relief & Resilience Soothing Treatment Lotionand Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Cream For me, I stick to the routine for a month; the skin showed much better than it was. Sometimes it even stayed oil-free for a whole day! Also, to improve the skin condition and make it healthier-looking, it will be useful to eat less fried food and sweets at the same time. Try it for a month, and you will see the difference!
Target Blackheads With A Skin Clearing Mask + Custom-Made Serum
Products: ORIGINS - Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask to Clear Pores CLINIQUE - Smart Custom-Repair Serum I wasn’t very much of a mask person as I thought they left the skin dry and parched. That was until I got my hands on Origins masks, specifically their active charcoal mask that’s targeted to unclog pores to clean them thoroughly thus, tightening and helping to shrink their size. I particularly love using a serum that’s specially formulated to target dark spots, lines, and uneven skin texture after unclogging my pores. Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask I use this 1 to 2 times a week, during nighttime, after I clean my face thoroughly. I love leaving it on for about 15 to 20 minutes before I tone my face and layering all the other skincare products I use at a given time. I also love using it as a spot corrector when I have the occasional pimple. I love that it really works in getting rid of my pimple when I have one. I also saw that it literally takes out the blackheads that sit on top of my nose. I still have yet to see its effects on shrinking down the size of my pores though. It doesn’t dry out my already dry combination skin, and I feel my face is super clean after leaving this on. It feels clean and detoxified but not dry and tight. I love this mask and will continue to use it! Clinique Smart Custom-Repair Serum Clinique products will always have a spot in my shelf as their products have been working for me since my college years. Now that my skin has since changed and I have developed specific concerns, Clinique helps me in navigating this adult life filled with hyperpigmentation, unsightly huge pores, and uneven texture. I specifically love using this serum on evenings when I mask as it helps me target the premature aging situation I have going on in my skin. I feel that the Origins mask unclogs my pores, and it then helps my skin prepare to receive all the goodness of the products I use after it. Since using this product, I’ve noticed that my skin texture became smoother and softer. I don’t have any fine lines yet so I can’t attest to that, but this product has definitely helped in smoothing out the uneven texture of my face. Definitely a must try.

Nightly routine saved my Dry skin 🌙🌙
These have saved my skin. These are great for my sensitive skin and has helped prevent dry flaky patches The glossier milky jelly cleanser feels amazing on the skin. It doesn’t foam up which is great since it feels like a moisturizer. Glossier. - Milky Jelly Cleanser conditioning face wash After washing my face I love using the ordinary hyaluronic acid, it helps keep my skin moist. When you first apply it it soaks into your skin quick so make sure you follow with moisturizer immediately. Pro tip✨✨: make sure you pat it into your skin instead of rubbing it in. It prevents wrinkles and goes into the skin evenly. The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 I follow with the kiehls ultra facial cream and it’s my holy grail. On initial application it feels amazing. It’s so soft and it’s not super heavy or thick. I’m almost out of this and I will definitely buy another one. Kiehl's - Ultra Facial Cream I apply the drunk elephant f-balm as my last step for the night and it locks all the moisture in without my face looking greasy. It’s my holy grail. DRUNK ELEPHANT - F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask Lips need some loving too so I love using the glossier balm dot calm in mint. It feels amazing and the scent is very delicious. I am obsessed with mint scents. Glossier. - Balm Dotcom Also make sure you drink lots of water everyday, it’s amazing for your skin and also for your health. Yes everyone says you should do it but once I make the switch to drinking more water everyday I definitely see the difference. It takes time so you gotta do it all your life.
My Favourite Hydration/Moisture Products
Hydration and moisture are so, so important! I had the most oily skin for years and it never occurred to me to use a cream- so when I found my oil production subsiding a bit after introducing a hydration serum and moisturizer, I was amazed. Excess oil production can be the skin trying to moisturize itself via sebum. Here are my rec’s: PAULA'S CHOICE - 10% Niacinamide Booster contains such a variety of humectants that I consider it a hydrating serum. Hydrating while also balancing oil production, this is amazing for every skin type. stratia - Liquid Gold is packed with emollients and some humectants, making it a good serum for dry skin and the perfect moisturizer for oily skin. DRUNK ELEPHANT - B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum helps to reduce oil production but primarily gives skin the hydration it craves. This is a good serum for all skin types but lacks the emollients to be a moisturizer. DRUNK ELEPHANT - F-Balm Electrolyte Waterfacial Mask is the perfect cream to use after an acid if your skin is sensitive. It’d be a great moisturizer (thanks to squalane) for oily skin and is a nice add-on for dry skin. DRUNK ELEPHANT - Lala Retro Whipped Moisturizer with Ceramides worked for my skin when I was an oil slick and it saves my flaky face when my eczema goes Sahara desert. This fluffy moisturizer is perfect for all skin types, though dry skin in the winter may need to add an oil. The Ordinary - Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 is a hydrating serum that is just what dehydrated and/or oily skin needs- however I’d caution users that hyaluronic acid can be drying if you live in an arid environment. It also doesn’t have the most elegant texture, so give it an extra minute to soak in! PAULA'S CHOICE - Probiotic Nutrient Moisturizer moisturizes without shine, managing to be rich yet soaking in very quickly. It may be a bit too light for dry skin in the PM but oily/combo skin will love it. PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega + Complex Serum If you have sensitive, combination, and/or dry skin, buy this. It contains emollients, humectants, and is perfect for soothing skin. Oily skin will also likely enjoy this serum for its surprising lightness, but in my experience it is too light to be used as a moisturizer.

I wasn’t going to initially write a review, because I didn’t feel as though this product was worth my time. However - looking at all these 4 or 5 star reviews...no way. Uh-uh. I need to be real for a minute. I’ve used other skincare products from this brand, and never have I been more disappointed with results like I’ve been with this mask. So for my sample (because, let’s be real, it would have been ugly had I bought this as a full-size). 1. Packaging for the mini was awful, but I don’t usually let that influence my score. However, upon application, there’s a super intense, bordering on uncomfortable tingle. Luckily, I decided this needed to be applied as spot-treatment on my T-zone, oily patches, because dear Betsy, this would have ruined my whole face otherwise. Unless you’ve got acne city or skin as oily as Snape’s, you have no business using this on your entire face. 2. I thought I loved the way it dried...until it came time to wash it off. I scrubbed, and scrubbed, grabbed a washcloth, scrubbed some more, and there were still annoying patches in weird places - and keep in mind, this was spot treatment. 3. Some reviews raved about how good it is at clearing pores, ridding blackheads, blah blah blah. I’m not buying any of that nonsense. I’ve been doing the 10-step Korean routine, because hello, pandemic life, I’ve got time, but what do I get? More blackheads than I had in high school, pores the size of Texas, and weeks worth of beautiful/getting there/smaller pores just absolutely ruined in a mere twenty minutes of using this product. And keep in mind - this was after my trusty toner and moisturizer. I’m so not happy and scared to see my pores in the morning, as I’m afraid this might take weeks to “ unclog”, but here’s the bottom line - You only have business using this on truly oily complexions with moderate to severe acne. Don’t even bother wasting your time otherwise.

8 Do’s and Don’ts for Hormonal Acne
☀️I have combo skin that is sensitive and I get regular hormonal acne which makes keeping my skin fully clear very difficult but I’ve gotten a lot better at it over time so wanted to share some tips! 💕Do: 1. Wash your face daily by double cleansing. I like to wash my face with a water-based cleanser in the morning personally and then at night I’ll use a cleansing balm and then a water-based cleanser. This is called double cleansing and that extra step is important at night, especially if you were wearing makeup and sunscreen during the day (hopefully SPF!). You can also find a cleanser with Salicylic Acid in it to treat breakouts like the one from Paula’s Choice or CeraVe. 2. Wear sunscreen SPF 30 or higher Sunscreen daily helps my skin so much with redness and of course with acne. This is one of the most important things you can do for your skin! Do it do it do it! 3. Use clay masks Once or twice a week I will use my pink clay mask by Sand & Sky to pull out impurities from my skin. I find this mask helps with painful acne and reducing redness. It increases healing time from my experience too. This is the best one I’ve found and I will repurchase over and over again. 4. Use Vitamin C (with SPF during the day) Vitamin C helps me a TON with acne scars. You know after a big breakout how you’ll have redness? This ingredient helps me with that and fights free radicals during the day which is good too! Always pair it with sunscreen. I like to use this during the day and a retinol to increase cell turnover at night. Generally, the rule of thumb is to not mix the two! 5. Use a retinol This product increase cell turnover which for me helps heal acne faster and also seems to prevent big breakouts and even small ones from happening as frequently. I use A-Passioni by Drunk Elephant currently. It’s strong so like any product, patch test on your hand to see if your skin gets along with it. Then slowly add to your routine with a richer moisturizer. There are many options out there. I did experience peeling and purging when I first started and that purging where your skin breaks out from the product at first can last a few weeks but is so so worth it in the end. 🙈Don’t: 1. Do NOT use products with coconut oil. This isn’t true for everyone but for me and a bunch of skincare lovers I know, products with coconut oil make us breakout consistently. Yes, it can be hydrating but keep it to the body rather than your face. 2. Do NOT use products with fragrance! This isn’t true for everyone but for some people fragrance is extremely irritating for the skin. I think if you can avoid it, which you can, then definitely do. CeraVe has a lot of great and affordable products that fit this category. 3. Do NOT sleep in your make-up. I know. It can happen. But for my skin, I find I can breakout throughout just the course of the day from wearing make-up. SAND&SKY - Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask
CLAY MASK 💕
The product✨ Sand and Sky Australian Pink Clay Mask. This mask is meant to be porerefining, detoxifying and brightening by using ingredients like Australian pink clay, kelp, plum and pomegranate. It’s a pretty pink color and feels just like a thick clay mask and it has a slightly sweet smell. ••• My thoughts✨ I got a few uses out of this sample and I feel like my skin looked brighter after each use, but I’m unsure of the affect it had on my pores because I couldn’t use it consistently for a long period of time. This wasn’t as drying as some other clay masks and it applies nicely to the skin, so that I did enjoy. I know clay masks are great especially for oily/acne prone skin like mine, but I just never feel myself reach for them... so between this being a small sample and me having other clay masks I probably won’t purchase this product, at least not right away. It goes for $50 for 60grams which to me is kinda expensive 🥴 SAND&SKY - Australian Pink Clay Porefining Face Mask
awesome face mask
i love my face mask. it’s from que bella. it’s a lavender aromatherapy mud mask. it smells heavenly and it calms/relaxes your skin. it feels so refreshing and every time i wash it off, my skin is finally clear, clean, less red, and healthy-looking. i apply it at night for 15-20m and wash it off with warm water.
Refreshing Face Mask!
When I used this mask I did not have high hopes for it, but once I used it my face was noticing more refreshed and brighter. I would like to note however that the instructions on the back were all in mandarin and I had no idea how long I should leave it on. I left it on for twenty minutes after putting hot water on my face and it worked well! These masks are cheap and I will definitely recommend and buy this product again. It is made to refresh and brighten, and is easy on the skin.
