Curly hair care is a craft—anyone with even an ounce of curl can attest to that! When natural hair care brand Mielle came out with their new moisturizing Hawaiian Ginger line, we asked our resident curl guru's on team cherie to put them to the test and see if they hold up against their tried & true tips, tricks, and techniques. Hey curlfriends👋🏾 just stopping by to give you the deets on Mielle’s new moisture rx collection (products are listed in order of use): Hair Type: 3c/4a gurl ➰ Moisture RX Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing & Anti-Breakage Shampoo Let’s start with this bad boy. Now I’ve used mielle’s co-wash in the past so I expected nothing but greatness from this product. In terms of functionality the pump was a struggle at first, I definitely had to put some arm strength into this one. It did take awhile to lather up, but once enough shampoo was applied I was all suddzy🧼 My hair did feel more moisturized after a single wash, shoutout to the avocado and ginger infused in this shampoo🥑 Moisture RX Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing & Anti-Breakage Conditioner When it came to moisture, this product wasn’t playing. Immediately after washing my hair with the anti-breakage shampoo I sectioned my hair and then combed this conditioner through each strand. When it comes to my curls, I am HEAVY with the conditioner. Once applied, I wrapped each section into two Bantu knots and then let it sit for about 15 minutes. Upon rinsing my hair, my hair felt very hydrated, I was quite pleased. (Don’t get me wrong, I definitely still needed more product in my hair to keep it from frizzing up🦚) It’s finally twisting time🧬 After I wash + deep condition, I then applied these 3 products to my two strand twists: Moisture RX Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner Moisture RX Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing Hair Butter Moisture RX Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing Styling Gel These three products combined had my twists SOAKED with maximum hydration. My favorite out of the three was definitely the hair butter. The hair butter was the key to unlocking the next level of protective styles🗝 My hair was voluminous, defined, AND hydrated. What more could a curly girl ask for? I’ve used these products on 3 of my twist outs so far and they still haven’t failed me. I definitely recommend these products to anyone looking to add some moisture to their collection💧 Lastly, I went in with Moisture RX Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing Scalp Treatment. A little background on my skin type, I have very dry skin & when neglected I can get dry scalp as well. Once I finished my twists, I went through each part and spritzed this product onto my scalp. The texture was a bit oily, but soothing nonetheless! I would also like to shine light on the founder ⭐️ Monique Rodriguez⭐️ for being another pioneer to bring curly hair products to the forefront of beauty. I can’t say it enough, but support👏🏾Black👏🏾owned👏🏾beauty👏🏾brands.

a lot of product for a LOW price 🤑 OKAY curly girls of cherie. Let me put you on to Mielle if you haven’t heard of them already. Disclaimer: I have not tried everything YET. But wanted to get this in front of you so we can compare notes. ➿➿I have 3a/b curlzzzzz ➿➿ If you are really looking for some deep moisture this Hawaiian Ginger line is for YOU. Moisture RX Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing & Anti-Breakage Shampoo The shampoo is a bit difficult to pump out, and you need to use kind of a lot of it to get some good suds (if you’re into that) 🧼 but overall it’s pretty nice. I thought it would be more fragrant but it’s not! It’s kind of like a calming ginger tea 🫖 Moisture RX Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing & Anti-Breakage Conditioner The conditioner is definitely THICC. Had to take a few pumps then comb it through sections of my hair in the shower. Left it in and after a few mins I rinsed it out..it felt pretty smooth. Okay here is where it gets a little tricky for me. I have very fine hair. And it needs moisture but if I go overboard it just doesn’t sit right when I dry it. So when using the leave in conditioner, I think I overdid it and left a lil too much in. I normally use the Ouidad Advanced Climate Control Featherlight Styling Cream after I wash/condition and it is perfect when I diffuse afterwards bc it’s so light. But mistakes were made on my part bc it did not look cute when I diffused it dry. I only used a bit of the Moisture RX Hawaiian Ginger Moisturizing Styling Gel after the leave in and before diffusing and it was OK but I think I had too much leave in for it to do anything cute for me. Overall, I think it is worth another shot! There is seriously a TON of product here for a really great affordable price. I would say it’s only a bit smaller than Pattern Beauty but I would take Mielle over Pattern any day for the fragrance alone (Sorry Auntie Tracee) — I really hate strong fragrance in my hair products!! I def want to try the overnight conditioner and wash in the AM then use my regular products to style to see if I can still maintain the hydration from the night before, without it weighing my curls down when they’re dry. We’ll see how it goes!!!

Tips from a derm for exercise induced acne
Tips from a derm for exercise induced acne
With a new year comes resolutions, many involving healthier lifestyles and exercise. So why let exercise induced acne hold you back from achieving these healthier choices. Exercising can cause excessive sweating-leading to increased oils, dirt, friction, and even bacteria on your skin leading to acne. This can manifest as facial or truncal acne (think backne), often known as acne mechanica or folliculitis. Cleansing properly is incredibly important for preventing exercise induced acne. It’s important to remove all makeup prior to working out. Gently shower with lukewarm water immediately after sweating. If a shower is not available, reach for a cleansing wipe. Clean, loose-fitting moisture wicking attire is key. This helps prevent friction and additional bacteria and sweat from dirty clothing. In addition to wiping down all gym equipment, don’t forget about the stuff that hits your skin regularly such as headphones, watches, and headbands. Most importantly, don’t forget sunscreen and gentle moisturizers. NEW FIND! And I’m pleasantly surprised!?
NEW FIND! And I’m pleasantly surprised!?
It was time to get a new moisturizer. I was currently using the HONEST - Hydrogel Cream paired with the PAULA'S CHOICE - Omega+ Complex Moisturizer , RADHA BEAUTY - Rosehip Oil , and timeless SKIN CARE - Squalane Oil 100% Pure because I have pretty dry skin. I love both of those moisturizers (although I’m not fond of all the Paula’s choice Omega+ complex moisturizer ingredients, but I loooooove the texture and feeling of it ) and love my oils (I won’t stop using the oils), but knew I needed a richer cream and also wanted to keep it down to just one cream, for time and my bank accounts sake. So if you’ve seen my last post, I was deciding between 3 brands but I couldn’t decide and was also nervous to try a new moisturizer, even though I knew I needed one, because I’m also acne prone so a new moisturizer to me was just terrifying lol. I was about to just get my usual HONEST - Hydrogel Cream because I knew it didn’t break me out and I like it a lot, although not quite as moisturizing as I need, it was on the safer side and I can’t imagine going a day without a moisturizer on this Sahara desert of a face!!! But then I discovered this brand I’ve never seen before? It’s called Awake Human. It’s not even a listing on Cherie for me to add the product! I read the ingredients and was intrigued (scroll through pics to see ingredients list), but because of my fear of new moisturizers, I was hesitant.. but I decided to bite the bullet because the ingredients looked amazing, was cheaper than Paula’s choice and the honest beauty’s moisturizer, but had the same amount of product. I received it a few days ago and I am in love!!!!! Soooooo rich and creamy and hydrating feeling, and it had the same smooth, rich, texture as the Paula’s Choice omega moisturizer, that I love so much!!! It comes in a nice little pump type of packaging, which I like. Keeps bacteria and gunk out. If you scroll through my pictures, you’ll see it. And a little bit goes a long way! The picture you see of the product on my fingers is the amount I use, but you can totally use less, especially if you have more oily or normal skin. I just like a lot of moisturizer! Lol I’ve noticed my face is much less dry feeling and looks smoother with less texture. I will keep you updated, but I think this is my new fave!!!! I’m so excited lol. Here the link the purchase: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NWXJYVK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_YHI-Fb9BRJKT0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 If you’re hesitant but intrigued like I was, I strongly encourage you to just try it. And if it happens that doesn’t work for your face, because remember, everyone is different and skincare is not a one size fits all, then it would most definitely be a really really nice hand cream, that would fit nicely in your bag. Have you heard of this brand before? And if so, have you used anything from them?

HOW TO ROUND 2: EASIEST INTENSE WING LINER
Why hello there! I’m continuing on my how to tutorials. I really like this series breaking down all makeup trends and putting up how to tutorials for all makeup artist levels for makeup trends. Continuing on the wing liner, I used a liquid liner for my wing tutorial which is what I normally do. But liquid liners are not very beginner friendly. So this tutorial will teach you how to create an intense wing liner using a matte black eyeshadow. So check out the tutorial above to see how I achieve a wing liner using eyeshadow. Next tutorial will be the last of the wing liners. Hairstyles for the gym don’t have to be cute - but it’s nice when they are!! Here is a SUPER easy Dutch braid into a bun - perfect for the gym when you don’t want your hair getting in your face when you’re moving around! Begin with the Dutch braid which is a 3 strand braid taking pieces from either side of your head, UNDER the middle strand of hair. Then fluff it out by pulling on the braid strands and then take all of that and put into a half bun, wrap the extra hair and you’re done!!! Literally so easy yall and SO STINKING CUTE!! Xo, Johanna
