Which moisturizer is right for my skin type?
A little bit of moisturizing a day keeps the dry skin away!
Moisturizing is crucial to a healthy skin barrier. All 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 help with dry skin. Yet, not all moisturizers are created equal. So, how do you choose the 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿 for your skin?
I am breaking it down today for #WinterSkinReliefDay.
In general, 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 provide a little bit of water to the skin and contain a greasy substance that holds it in.
𝗠𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 are formulated in 𝟯 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀:
✅ 𝗢𝗰𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀: greasy/oily and block the evaporation of water from your skin.
💦 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀: pull water into the top layer of your skin both from the air and from deeper layers of the skin.
🧖🏾♀️ 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: not really moisturizering but rather to make the skin feel smooth by replacing absent skin the lipids and oils to fill in all the cracks on the skin, helping smooth out the surface of your skin and repair your skin’s barrier.
Here is a cheat sheet to help you select the appropriate moisturizer for your skin.
𝗣𝗿𝗼 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀
📅 𝗠𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆, regardless of your skin type. Even oily skin needs moisturizing every day with the right type of moisturizer. Please avoid moisturizing reactively, aka moisturizering 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 when your skin is dry.
🚿 Always apply to 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻. P.S I keep my moisturizer in my shower to apply right after I towel off gently.
🔑 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿. This is key for the winter 🥶 months. You need both a humectant which draw moisture to the skin and occlusive ingredients which keep water from evaporating off of your skin.
🌓𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗿. This is really important in the winter if you are using humectant heavy moisturizer. The dry air can pull the water out of your skin. Sounds crazy right?
🚫𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. Even if you do not have sensitive skin. Fragrance and coloring are just a set up for possible irritation/allergy and no one has time for that.
🦶🏾 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗸. They too need some TLC.

What it means to blowdry down the hair cuticle!
Let’s simplify what it means when a hairstylist says to blow dry down the hair cuticle:
When you think of your hair, think of the shingles on a roof. They’re all laying down but on top of each other. The cuticle of our hair is doing the same!
When we blow dry up or at the hair cuticle, it causes all those little shingles to stand up- causing frizz, loss of moisture, and hair damage. When we blow dry down the hair cuticle, all the shingles can lay flat against each other and be the protective barrier that they’re supposed to be.
If you’re having trouble with extra frizz or loss of moisture pay attention to the direction that your blow drying. This could make all the difference!
Colourpop will always have my fave liners
Colourpop is definitely one of my favorite brands and they’ve now worked on a new #Colourpop - Creme gel color vault[products]#[FiveStars] and I’m obsessed! It’s their best colors from their COLOURPOP - Crème Gel Liner and made into pots for better use in graphic liner designs like this one I did! If you love their gel liners you’re going to love these little pots 😍
Heatless waves make for healthy hair!
2021 means extra self care! All month I will be doing masks, skin, and hair treatments to get myself on track. This includes avoiding using any heat on my hair!
A great way to avoid heat but also give my straight hair texture is by using silicone hair curlers!
My hair is very long so the easier way for me to use is by putting my hair in a ponytail and wrapping the ends of my hair around the curlers. I added OUAI - OUAI Wave Spray before i curled for extra texture.
I left these in my hair for about 20 minutes and was pretty happy with the results. Definitely not a perfect curl and yes I do prefer heat - but for a no damage solution, I’ll take it! I’ll be reaching for these more often this month!
What are some self care things you are doing in the new year?
So Do All Cleansing Balms Suck?
Cause this one sure did. I wear very waterproof mascara L'ORÉAL - Unlimited Length and Lift Waterproof Mascara which I have found to be better than any high end brand. So, I really need to work hard to get my face actually clean. I've been double cleansing with oil cleanser for many years. I use BURT’S BEES - Cleansing Oil with Coconut & Argan Oils and it actually does a great job I'm just not really a coconut oil fan. So when I saw all the hype about cleansing Balms I knew I had to try. All this talk of it dissolving your makeup sounded amazing and I was so sold. k beauty is my fav and this Zero cleansing Balm seemed like an easy and popular choice. But unfortunately it does not get my makeup off, it also gave me super cloudy eyes. Like super cloudy, it literally blinds me when I use it. I find even after using a bamboo wipe to try to get the extra off, it's not dissolved enough to get it to glide off. I wonder if I'm not using it right, because it's that bad.
