I have somewhat of an obsession with beauty devices. The idea that some gizmo or gadget can do amazing things for my skin always lures me in. It's the idea of beauty and technology that makes these devices so intriguing, and why I've tried almost every beauty device trend I've seen. After all the devices I've tried, I've come to the conclusion that they are, for the most part, unncessary. Most beauty devices aim to do something you already can, but "better". While you can massage your face with your hands, the addition of a great facial roller can make the experience that much better. When it comes to facial massagers, quality really makes a huge difference. What makes this facial roller amazing is it's weight; it's heavier than it looks and because of that weight, it creates a comforting pressure when used on the face. I love how relaxing this tool is sooo much that I keep it by my desk to use throughout the day. It's also a staple in my travel case because it is THAT good. 2. NuFace Trinity

Micro-current devices are a popular way to lift your face without getting a facelift. The way it works is by sending electric currents to your facial muscles which essentially exercises them (in a way that you wouldn't be able to without the device). Over time, your muscles lift the rest of your face up, which is why devices such as the NuFace Trinity are so popular!

4. DMH LED face mask

I'm sure you've seen an LED light mask selfie somewhere on your social channels, and it's for good reason. LED light therapy was first developed by NASA to help grow plants on space shuttles and other missions. Along the way, they found that LED light was promising in healing wounds. It was then picked up by estheticians and dermatologists in treating acne and other skin ailments. So how does it work? LED light has a smaller wavelength than other light, and is free of UV rays. This small wavelength can penetrate the skin to target layers where certain ailments can first occur. For example, blue light is suggested for acne because the blue light can penetrate to the layer of skin where bacteria can form acne. I use my mask almost every single day and, while I can't thank it for my acne improving, I do enjoy the idea that it's working! It's one of those devices that you only know it works after quite some time.

5. NuFace FixA micro companion to the NuFace Trinity or Mini, the NuFace Fix is a small but mighty device that helps diminish fine lines in delicate areas such as the undereye, lips, and around the nose. It's a lot more casual in use as well; you can use the fix throughout the day for a few moments to add a little pep to your skin as needed! I love using the Fix for days when I feel a bit stressed out or did not have a good night's rest—it gives me an instantly refreshed look!

6. PMD CleanNow, when it comes to cleansing devices, I would honestly say they are not entirely necessary. Washing your face with your clean hands does the job just fine, but if you want a little extra something, a facial cleansing device can be a nice addition to your routine. I use my PMD Clean every day, twice a day, and while I don't particularly think it makes my skin any cleaner than my hands would (as the device claims it does) I love using it because it feels so nice on my skin! It's pretty expensive, though, which is why I wouldn't recommend it unless you really, really want a facial cleansing device.

7. Gua ShaGua Sha's can be amazing for flushing out toxins from the skin and getting blood flow going. If done properly, it's an amazing tool to have in your skincare routine! Key words; done properly, something I can admit I wasn't doing. I personally think using a gua sha is a bit tiring; I rather use something easier, like my gold roller in the number one spot. I do love how accessible and classic a gua sha is, though, and consider it a great starter tool for any beauty lover looking into beauty devices.

8. PMD Personal microdermabration - aka the PMD. This at home device is a physical skin exfoliator that leaves your skin incredibly soft. It's almost like sanding your skin, but loads more gentle. If you use chemical exfoliants, there's no need for a PMD. I originally purchased the PMD to help with my skin's texture but I find myself rarely using this device because AHA's and BHA's helps so much more with refining my skin.

9. Facial Steamer - Dr. Dennis GrossThere was a time when this steamer would've been #1 on my list. The warm steam is so relaxing, and the "clean" feeling you have after steaming is unmatched. But is it useful? Meh. While steam can help deep clean your skin, it isn't necessary to have a separate device just for it. If you like steam, it's much easier (and cost efficient) to fill a bowl with hot water, place your head above the steam, and cover your head with a towel. Besides that, there are much cheaper alternatives to the Dr. Dennis Gross steamer that you can find!
