Body Care Tips from Dermatologists to Keep Your Skin Healthy and Strong This WinterCold and dry winter weather doesn’t have to get in the way of your glow this season.
Even though the sun may be going down earlier these days with winter approaching, there’s still a way to glow this holiday season. Dermatologists weighed in with Cherie and said that there’s a product for each and every one of us as we switch our seasonal body care products. It just depends on what you’re looking for and the goals that you have for your skin in the coming months. But in order to understand your skin aspirations, it’s important to recognize that the skin on our face is different from that of which is on our body. Dr. Erum Ilyas told Cherie that facial skin is oftentimes oilier than body skin, and can require different care and attention. “We have a higher density and higher concentration of oil glands on the face and sometimes on the upper chest, shoulder, and upper back area,” she said.

flamingoflamingo Deep Nourishing CreamAlthough we often categorize our facial skin into four categories (dry, oily, combination, and sensitive), Dr. Angelo Landriscina - also known as Dermangelo on social media and YouTube - said that he instead likes to classify body skin on a spectrum. “Very few people will have super oily body skin so there’s not a truly “oily” body skin type,” he said. “Most people sit on a spectrum from well moisturized to very dry.” The dermatologist also mentioned that body skin can be sensitive and recommended showering only once a day in many cases. Skin type classification according to Ilyas is simply a marketing tactic to allow consumers a better way to “understand what they’re going to get out of their product.” She said that buyers should pay attention to ingredient labels on the backs of products rather than solely committing to something based on what the front says that it will do.

Landriscina said that the winter season brings dryer air with less humidity, and he isn’t just talking about the air outside, either. The doctor said that hot showers and dry heat from heating systems can all work together during the winter months to give many of us dry body skin. Because of this, Landriscina said that a focus on moisture in winter body care is essential for maximizing glow potential. “All skin types should be looking to amp up barrier function and HYDRATE body skin during the winter,” he said. “This includes using humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid to add water to the skin as well as lipids, ceramides and occlusive like petrolatum to help seal that water in.” His biggest body skin secret for the season is utilizing a humidifier in his bedroom while he sleeps.
Olive Kisses SKIN CAREBeauty Balm Coconut & Olive OilAs for ingredients to avoid in the coming months, Ilyas said that alcohol-based products, those with an abundance of fragrance, and heavy oils can actually be potentially harmful for the skin. In an analogy, the dermatologist said that she imagines skin to be like a cobblestone street rather than a smooth wall. The bricks that hold it together, she says, are like our skin cells and look like cracked porcelain when it becomes dry in the wintertime. “If you put fragrance on top of that cobblestone, the skin becomes filled with that fragrance and it becomes irritated,” Ilyas said. “Your immune system starts to feel like there’s some sensory overload going on.”
LUSHDream CreamAnd despite the cold weather, shorter days, and more time spent inside, both skin experts said that wearing sunscreen is key during winter. Landriscina said that UV radiation is still present even in winter months and mentioned that even skiers still get sunburnt. Ilyas agreed and said that UV rays, which can be responsible for skin cancer, can actually be magnified by snow. “I caution people to not think that they’re in the clear during the winter,” she said. “You don’t want to get a false sense of security when you might find that that’s actually when you burn.” And as many of us still work from home these days, Ilyas warned that consistent exposure to blue lights can actually speed up aging, discoloration, and promote wrinkles. She recommends using products with niacinamide to combat our constant exposure. But no matter what the weather may have in store for us this winter, listen to the skin on your body this winter season and look for products with ingredients that will help to keep your skin strong and healthy!
HOLY GRAIL SPF 🌞🌞🌞
Okay guys as I have said before I am guilty of rarely ever wearing sunscreen. I just never liked the feel of it on my skin. I always felt like it made me greasy & clogged my pores. However, once I heard about this product I was very intrigued. NIOD - Survival 30 It actually isn’t sold in the United States for some reason so I had to purchase it on a UK website. (Beauty Bay) It is an antioxidant serum with SPF 30. At first, it appears to be tinted but it’s actually not. On NIOD’s website they state: “The slight tinted appearance is derived from the active technologies including Lutein, Fractionated Melanin and Pycnogenol.” It blends in with your skin so easily & does not leave a white cast like some other SPF products. However this serum literally makes my skin tone soo even & perfect! It also contains silicone so it completely smooths over my pores. AND besides all that great stuff, it’s a mineral sunscreen! So it protects against environmental & lifestyle issues. Like UV rays, blue light, etc. I have never loved a product as much as this one! I literally cannot believe how good my skin looks while using this stuff! For a 30ml bottle, I paid $33 on the Beauty Bay site. For me, that is completely worth it! It comes in this adorable packaging & pretty glass bottle. It also has a pump dispenser & squirts out the perfect amount for a single use! I really can’t recommend this stuff enough guys! It’s wonderful!! @cherie@Cheriebeauty@CheriePick
Skin Barrier Skin Savior 🙏🏾
Thank you @cheriefor this amazing gift 🤩🤩 Something thing I am very particular about is my moisturizer. My skin barrier tends need the extra TLC and the best thing to give it is moisture. So when I look for a moisturizer I need something that gives me instant hydration and doesn’t clog my pores. So when I received the : BASE BUTTER - Radiate Face Jelly Aloe Vera Gel Face Moisturizer I was so excited! The Brand : ✨Black Owned ✨Women Owned ✨Cruelty Free ✨Non-Comedogenic ✨Vegan ✨Paraben Free 🔑 Ingredients : ✨Aloe Vera Juice ✨Shea Butter ✨Evening Primrose Oil Okay, as you can see your girl woke up DULL! The only thing I did for this video was wash my face and use this to show y’all the transformation! I was using this EVERY night but last night I used my acne treatment routine and your girl FELT THAT (salicylic acid can be so drying to my combo skin). What’s my favorite part? This baby doesn’t have a smell or heavy greasy feel, so it perfect year round! At $21 this is a DEAL ! (The line I used on my cheek covered the entire bottom portion of my face!) Have you tried this brand?
A Journey of Self 🌹
I figured Black History Month was as good as any opportunity to talk about my self finding. Growing up in a small yet old family, I always had questions about my roots and family history. I also struggled with self conscious doubts about my appearance. Why is my nose this big? Why is my hair this curly? Why am I taller than average? These weighed heavy on my mind growing up because honestly, sticking out sucked. So, I finally dove deep into my family’s origin and decided to do an Ancestry DNA analysis. I immersed myself with every corner of the site. I only got the chance to finish my maternal grandmas side of the family tree, but even that has plenty of gaps. Yet, when I received my DNA results I was stoked. Then I realized, I don’t know much about any of these places. So I dug even deeper. I have a little journal of things I’ve learned and want to know, but this was quite the experience. It was heartbreaking and satisfying at the same time. I highly recommend for every race and background to do this DNA Test. The best part of this was scrolling through photos of the people of the respected countries I was DNA matched to. I swear I saw a girl who looked like me, but everyone else thinks I’m tripping lol. In the end, I’m satisfied with my results and findings. Relatively speaking, this way of self discovery has been the most effective.
Clear skin the gentle way?
Thank you @cheriefor this amazing gift 🤩 “buh-koo-chee-all” HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Anti-Aging Serum I’ve already become a diehard Herbivore lover. So to receive this beauty was super exciting. When I started my acne journey on Cherie I was (and still am) a Differin Acne Gel stan. This was my choice of retinol and I wanted it strong to treat acne and boost my cellular turnover. Now that my acne is currently under control and it’s getting hot again, I definitely want something smooth and gentle. Bakuchiol is a gentler alternative to the very popular ingredient retinol. So essentially you’ll get overall youthful results for your skin. I haven’t tested this on my acne theory yet, but overall my face has been smooth and irritation free. This serum does not have a smell which I love for products of this caliber. I also love that it’s light and not drying at all. I use this at night and since i have a tolerance to retinol I use it every night. I haven’t been using it long enough to see results (about 12 weeks) but I definitely can’t wait to finish this. Have you tried Bakuchiol?
