As someone who has had eczema since I was a child, my hunt for the best products to help treat it has become well-refined, though seemingly never-ending. Eczema is an inflammatory skin disease where people experience itchy skin that can show up in different varieties of flaky, dry, patchy, and red. For myself, the hardest part of eczema is often the discomfort of the itch, and the soreness of the inflammation. Personally, I learned to accept the way it looked, but I know that sometimes that can be a blow to one's self confidence. On my 20-something years of trying different products to treat my eczema, I wanted to make sure my products and practices contributed to my entire well-being, and would be something I could maintain for the rest of my life. I also wanted to put an end to topical steroids that are prescribed to me by my doctor, because they don't help much in preventing flare ups than they do in temporarily treating them. My Practices for Preventing Eczema Flare-UpsBecause eczema is an inflammatory skin disease, the biggest culprits that can cause it are anything that can bring on stress to your body. Remember, stress=inflammation! So, the best thing in preventing eczema flare-ups is to prevent stress. A few things I like to do to reduce inflammation are:1) Take evening primrose oil supplementsPacked with omega-6 fatty acids, evening primrose oil can help reduce inflammation in the body. 2) MeditateFind peace admist your stressors with a meditation practice! 3) Swap coffee for teaSometimes, drinking coffee can give you the jitters, and even more myself, I tend to feel a lot more anxious on caffiene! Swap out coffee for calming teas to help reduce eczema flare-ups. 4) A fruit (and veggie)- full diet! You are what you eat! Consuming less anti-inflammatory foods and more alkalizing ones can help your body in preventing eczema flare ups. Products I Love for Treating EczemaFor new inflammation: Tower28 SOS Save.Our.Skin Spray
Nov. 2, 2020
TOWER 28SOS Daily Rescue Facial SprayI love this spray so much for treating new inflammation! It's even replaced my use of hydrocortisone, a topical steroid that reduces redness and itchiness. The star ingredient of Tower28's cult-favorite spray is Hypochlorous Acid which soothes redness, cleanses, and nourishes skin. I like to spray it on newly inflammed eczema to calm it down and help prevent itching. For everyday upkeep: La Roche Posay Lipikaur Balm AP+
LA ROCHE-POSAY Lipikar Balm AP + Body CreamI first discovered this in Paris when my friend suggested it to me after I shared with her that I experience eczema. This body lotion is formulated for dry and irritated skin and it's niacinamide and shea butter enriched formula helps soothe and protect irritated skin. I love using this everyday to keep my skin strong, silky, and smooth. For intense spot hydration & protection: Cerave Healing Ointment
CeraVeHealing OintmentThis healing ointment does it all! With essential ceramides and niacinamide, this ointment has become a go to for protecting and hydrating any eczema flareups. If I have an inflammed patch of skin, I'll spray Tower28's SOS to soothe and cleanse the area, then seal in hydration with the healing ointment. To cool an itch: BEBOE Body Balm
·BEBOE·High-Potency CBD Body BalmCBD is one the buzziest ingredients from the last few years, and while I haven't found it incredible for my face, I absolutely love it for my eczema. The CBD balm I have from Beboe has a cooling effect, so I've found it to be a perfect alternative to hydrocortisone when I have itchy-beyond-control eczema. Bonus points for CBD balms because they are also anti-inflammatory! For nourishment and repair: My Topicals Like Butter
TOPICALSLike Butter Hydrating MaskMeant to be an ultra-nourishing and hydrating mask for eczema experienced on the face, I also like to use this amazing topical for the rest of my body, too. It's packed with soothing ingredients like anti-inflammatory turmeric, wound-healing madeassoside, anti-microbial Chinese rubharb root, and soothing colloidal oatmeal. If I have a particularly gnarly patch of eczema, I use a thick-layer of Like Butter to accelerate healing.

A Journey of Self 🌹
I figured Black History Month was as good as any opportunity to talk about my self finding. Growing up in a small yet old family, I always had questions about my roots and family history. I also struggled with self conscious doubts about my appearance. Why is my nose this big? Why is my hair this curly? Why am I taller than average? These weighed heavy on my mind growing up because honestly, sticking out sucked. So, I finally dove deep into my family’s origin and decided to do an Ancestry DNA analysis. I immersed myself with every corner of the site. I only got the chance to finish my maternal grandmas side of the family tree, but even that has plenty of gaps. Yet, when I received my DNA results I was stoked. Then I realized, I don’t know much about any of these places. So I dug even deeper. I have a little journal of things I’ve learned and want to know, but this was quite the experience. It was heartbreaking and satisfying at the same time. I highly recommend for every race and background to do this DNA Test. The best part of this was scrolling through photos of the people of the respected countries I was DNA matched to. I swear I saw a girl who looked like me, but everyone else thinks I’m tripping lol. In the end, I’m satisfied with my results and findings. Relatively speaking, this way of self discovery has been the most effective.
Wednesday Wellness 🙏🏾
This past week has been rather hard and long for me. I ultimately decided to get back on track with my wellness plan. My main wellness goal for 2021, is to indulge in myself more. I definitely am a firm believe in “as within, so without”. I started my day with: #Four Sigmatic - Mushroom Elixir Mix with Chaga[products]#[FiveStars] I have been getting back into adaptogen and herbal medicine. What we put into our bodies is just as important as what goes on the outside. Adaptogens are apart of ancient medicinal traditions traced all over the world. I also drink Tulsi “Holy Basil” Tea. If you need a pick me up or emotional boost I highly recommend! SUNDAY RILEY - U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil is my treatment of choice I used during the day. Do not be afraid to use salicylic acid during the day. I applied plenty of sunscreen afterwards as well! This is a GODSEND for clearing up acne and acne scarring. It’s by far the best acne treatment I’ve tried and its mostly due to the immediate results I get. This is a dry oil, so it should be used before a heavy moisturizer or sunscreen. THE BODY SHOP - Spa of the World Thai Makrut Lime Firming Oil is a staple in my night time routine. When I want to relax and really unwind I use a body roller with this oil. It smells like a fresh key lime pie and it’s so hydrating. This is great for firming, especially when paired with a body tool. What do you do for wellness?
Clear Hydrated Skin The Clean Way✨
Staying in the trend of clean beauty, I have found an amazing product to add to my everyday routine. Odacité SKINCARE - Blue Aura Cleansing Water This is a cleansing water that is marketed to use in place of your cleanser for a “quick” clean. When looking for a good cleansing water, you want one that is hydrating and gets your face clean. Keep in mind not all cleansing waters are designed to clean makeup (I highly recommend a cleansing balm and cleanser). About This Brand: ✨Vegan ✨Cruelty Free ✨Certified Organic ✨ NO: Fillers | Parabens | Nanoparticles | Petrochemicals | PEG | Synthetic perfumes | Dyes | Phenoxyethanol. This cleansing water is so hydrating and satisfying to use. It smells very fresh and a little goes a long way. What is very important to me is my dry spot aren’t tight or irritated. I have been using this day and night and have seen amazing results acne and skin barrier wise. I included this in my routine after a regular cleanser and before my serums. So essentially, I use this as a “toner”. I do this to clean up anything my cleanse left behind, or the cleanser itself. INGREDIENTS: ✨Tumeric: Amazing for hyperpigmentation and overall skin brightness ✨Holy Basil: I drink the tea and can vouch this is an amazing adaptogen that can overall benefit every aspect of your life. It combats aging and free radical damage. ✨Neem: great anti aging ingredient that helps protects your skin barrier. ✨Aloe Vera Juice: this is great for your skin barrier overall. It hydrated, protects and brightens. I highly recommend this cleansing water and it is on sale for $9 at Boxycharm Pop Up 🥰🥰
Stay Young Forever? ✨
That’d be great right? Well in taking those steps, I definitely recommend these amazing serums. I was gifted the: Intoxicated Cosmetics: Snake Serum Bee Serum Snail Serum I started using the Snail Serum last night first and wow did I notice a difference. The Snail Serum mainly targets dryness. I used this in place of my usual night time serum and boy did I notice a difference. I N G R E D I E N T S : All Serums contain: ✨Niacinamide Bee Serum: Bee Venom Plant Based Stem Cells Royal Epigen Snake Serum Snake Venom Green & White Tea Extract Peptides Snail Serum Snail Peptide Hyadisine Echinacea Moronga Oil Extract I definitely will try the other serums in my routine as I get used to the Snail Serum but so far my skin is definitely happy. What serum would you like to try?
DISAPPOINTED BY THESE 100% NATURAL PRODUCTS 😩
I was so excited to try these out because I love moisturizers & I am always in search of a good one! These looked & sounded very promising! They’re from a woman owned company, completely natural, vegan, & cruelty free! However, I was quite disappointed. EARTH HARBOR - MERMAID MILK Nutrient Glow Moisturizer This moisturizer claims to give you a glow right away & it contains spirulina + matcha. I was excited about the matcha because it has so many amazing benefits for skin. It has a very whipped consistency which I like. However it always contains essential oils that were strong, although not toooo strong for my liking. But I’m really just not a fan of essential oils in my face creams. The moisturizer did make my skin appear a little brighter but the cream just sat on my face. All day long I could touch my face & still feel the cream sitting there! I hate that feeling! It also almost gave me a greasy appearance after a while? Not a fan. EARTH HARBOR - SIREN SILK Multi-Tasking Hydration Creme This one was absolutely awful. If I could give it 0 stars I would. It says to use it at night time & the apply it at least 5 minutes before bed so it can absorb on your face & not your pillow. It contains Sea Retinol + other Superherbs which normally make me love a product! But that just wasn’t enough here. First, when I put it on my face my eyes started to actually burn & I felt suffocated from the scent. It was THAT strong. Guys, I’m not being dramatic at all. The smell like attacked me it was crazy! I have never had something like that happen with a face cream! I couldn’t believe how strong the fragrance was. & to top it off, it wasn’t even a pretty smell. My husband described it as smelling like floor cleaner. But I powered through. The longer I had it on, the more “used” to the smell I got. So, I wore it overnight. But then I woke up even more upset with it! I had pilling all over my face. It almost looked like my face was peeling but it wasn’t, it was jus the cream. One thing I cannot stand about a moisturizer is pulling. That’s enough for me to throw it out! It also didn’t really even moisturize my face that well! All in all, I hated this experience. But if you want, you should try them out for yourself, don’t let my experience deter you from trying something new! I however, will be sticking with my Youth To The People Dream Mask & Superfood Whipped Moisturizer! Love those two!! YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream 💗💗💗 @cherie@Cheriebeauty@CheriePick
