So much so that when I had to get dolled up for a socially-distanced birthday celebration, I realized just how much my makeup muscle had atrophied. My foundation was cakey and highlighting my imperfections (ahem maskne), and for it being my first time out in public after a while, I was so self-conscious. Now, I'm a true believer in embracing your imperfections, but if I'm putting makeup on, I want it to go to work for me. If not, I might as well step out bare skin! So, I started looking at tips, tricks, and hacks to achieving that flawless foundation look we all love so much, and I found... A LOT of info. From wet brush hacks to layering powder BEFORE liquid to concealer tricks, I tested them all out, and I still looked caked up. And then I realized that the common denominator in all of this was my foundation. If you have a bad foundation, there is no trick or tip to appease that! So the one thing you truly need for a flawless canvas? A GOOD FOUNDATION. Ok, technically before that, you need flawless skin, but we're human and our skin goes thru ups and downs, so a good foundation doesn't hurt to have. What makes a good foundation? The key to a perfect foundation is a skin-loving formula and color-matching. When I say skin-loving, I mean you want a foundation that can also actively contribute to your skin health instead of just covering it up. And when it comes to color-matching, that's even more important. If it doesn't blend seamlessly into your skin, the jig is up right away. For me, I found my holy grail foundation in Orcé's Come Closer Skin Perfecting Serum Foundation. Now, this foundation is not like any other. It truly has a serum feel, but the medium to full coverage is IMMACULATE. I initially was drawn to the foundation for its formula alone, which, according to Orcé's site, includes: - Tahitian Pearl to target hyperpigmentation, brighten complexion, and stimulate collagen production - Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate, firm, and plump skin while diminishing wrinkles - Evodia Rutaecarpa to boost radiance, improve texture, and protect skin from environmental stressorsThe claims alone were enough to convince me, but it was better than anything I could expect from a foundation once I tried it for myself. For me and my current skin struggles, including acne and hyperpigmentation, I appreciate how this foundation covers them up flawlessly without taking layers and layers of product to do so. This foundation allows me to have a flawless canvas without multiple steps as well; I apply it after my moisturizer and voilà! It looks so good, I don't even feel compelled to top it off with a powder—but then again, I love the dewy look over a matte one any day. Orcé's foundation is proof that a good foundation matters—when you experience how great your foundation can be, it becomes worth every penny! This foundation is inspired by Asian skin but works for anyone with golden or yellow undertones! If you fit the bill, I recommend giving Orcé a try—it could just be your next holy grail foundation, too.

Why I Decided to Ditch My Clarisonic Brush
Back in the day, my clarisonic - MIA 2 FACIAL CLEANSING BRUSH was my go to. I started using it religiously (daily). Well, deciding that once a day was way too much to use an abrasive electronic brush on my face, I decided to only use it when needed. When I would use it here and there, almost every time I would breakout. I tried using brand new heads, replacing the heads regularly, etc. In contrast of my personal experience with this brush, much research is shown that these brushes can damage the acid mantle, protective film and natural oils, and amino acids that are on our skin. Abrasive skin tools to me were just a fad and now that we have come so far with knowledge on a healthy skin care routine, we should focus on products that effect the skins beauty from within by using appropriate ingredients that penetrate the skin and change it from the inside out. To me, a deep clean from a brush is not worth me breaking out. I would rather use a chemical exfoliant (such as The Ordinary - AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution ) or a gently microdermabrasion paste/wash (such as philosophy - The Microdelivery Exfoliating Facial Wash ) when needed. What is the go to way to exfoliate your face? Also, has anyone had the same experience with Clarisonic brushes or face brushes in general?
My well-loved drugstore makeup essentials
These are the drugstore makeup picks I ACTUALLY use! Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Tarte Shapetape Concealer. Even the latest launches from Rare Beauty have me swooning. But drugstore makeup holds a special place in my heart. Walking through the aisles of Target or CVS gets me giddy. Quite honestly, I count those trips as my therapy sessions. Plus, these are the places were I started getting essentials to experiment with when I was younger! My favorite brands to score from are no doubt Pixi, NYX, Essence Cosmetics, Sonia Kashuk, Maybelline and Covergirl. They’re just my go-to’s! They’re the brands constantly putting out dupes for cult favorites. Everything in this picture, I use on a daily basis. I’ve been going through Maybelline Lifter Glosses like they’re going out of style. I actually was responsible for my local Target running out of stock once...oops. Another new essential that’s crawled its way into my everyday routine is the Covergirl Cooling Glow Stick. It’s part of their new Clean Fresh line and I use it on my WHOLE face. Top tip: try it under your eyes over your concealer 👀 I’m still in search for the perfect drugstore CC cream, does anyone have any good recommendations?
are pore bubbling masks worth it? 🧼🛁💬
since COVID has started, I know many people are on new (or refining old) skincare journeys and I’ve recently been experiencing some dryness/dehydrating as the winter rolls around, which also aggravates my already oily skin. I’ve worked in the beauty industry for a while and also was formerly an esthetician, so I can get picky with skincare and ingredients. ‼️for reference, my skin type is: combo (oily/dehydrated), formerly acneic, hyperpigmentation prone, and sensitive 🔬I’ve used Dr. Jart in the past and love that it’s a Korean, science-backed brand so I was stoked to try this Porecting Solution Mask! this mask promises fresh, clear glowing skin that deeply cleanses and purifies pores. the mask contains charcoal and saponine, which creates the bubbling effect you see in the above photo. this product does not contain sulfates, paragons, are phthalates. 🛁when I first took it out of its package, I thought there were *two* masks per package instead of one, but if you read the instructions, there’s actually a “mask film” on the actual mask itself that you’re supposed to remove, so make sure to do that! the actual mask is thick and full of product while the mask film is thinner and lighter in color. the directions also give you a tip to massage the mask to release the bubbling/foaming effect - I did this mask with my mom at the same time in separate rooms and she totally didn’t read the instructions so her mask didn’t bubble at all, so I would suggest to definitely massage the mask. 💬I left it on for 20 minutes and it continued to bubble about 5-10 minutes in, then stopped bubbling. you can hear the bubbles pop as the mask sits on your face, which is kinda weird but cool. the mask didn’t slip off AT ALL which is also a huge, even when I put a sweatshirt on over my head. after taking it off, the serum took about another 10 minutes to soak into my skin and my face felt super smooth and my pores looked tighter and more clean. I have a few sebaceous filaments on my nose that I sometimes pick at and as I was rubbing the serum into my skin, I saw that some of the sebaceous filaments on my nose were sloughing off (which is gross, but speaks to how well the product worked)! overall, I would definitely recommend and use this again! if you have oily skin or otherwise clogged pores, sebaceous filaments, blackheads, etc. I would suggest this for you. even if you have dry/normal skin, this would be a good option since my skin didn’t feel dried out at all afterward, even in my dry spell now, and felt rather hydrated and plump. five stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
