Hey guys, so recently bleached and coloured my own hair at home and I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the products I used. Let me start off by saying I have thick/medium- fine type 4 (a) natural hair that was previously box dyed once to a light brown colour but was mostly grown out. I completed this entire process in one weekend and it’s been about a month and my curls are still healthy and intact due to a consistent hair care routine (I’ll share that in another post) The products I used: This is a VERY strong bleach powder but it’s infused with wheat protein so it protects your hair from some damage while processing, my hair was able to lift to a brassy light blonde in an hour. Since the bleach powder I bought was so powerful I opted for a weaker developer which I think played a role in my hair staying intact, it was a nice clean smell and my scalp didn’t get irritated at all. Honestly this hair colour smells like battery acid. It made my eyes water so bad while I was using it. I applied the colour #611/6N- Dark Neutral blonde at my roots to create and more natural look, then applied #711/7N -Medium Neutral Blonde to my mid lengths and left my ends UNTOUCHED. I also used both dyes to create some low lights and medium lights throughout my head as well. The gel consistency made it very easy to distribute the colour evenly. This toner was perfect to ice out my brassy blonde hair, 4 weeks later and I still don’t need to touch it up. As precaution is did the two step treatment since I did a lot to my hair and I do think it helped keep my hair healthy. for maintenance I’ve used once and will continue to use it once a months since i only co wash. I apply it the. Leave it on for 5-10 mins before rinsing.
Need color-safe products?
Hello everyone! Today I wanted to talk about something extremely important to me... HAIR! More specifically, what customized routine I have in place for my severely damaged, dry, brittle and breaking hair. I’m confident that most blondes can agree that the maintenance of this particular colour can be incredibly damaging. Hopefully my tips can be of use to some of you guys, because as a student hairstylist, helping people achieve the luscious locks they dream of is one of my top priorities! Haircare Routine I wash my hair every two nights using Surface’s Bassu Shampoo & Conditioner. What is Bassu? It’s an oil extracted from the seeds of babassu palm. The benefits it can provide for your hair is deep moisture, which brings back the elasticity of your hair. This is exactly what you need after a high lift chemical service to prevent breakage. The vitamins and fatty acids contained in babassu regenerates the hair. Every week, or whenever I feel like I need it, I wash my hair with Surface’s Purple Shampoo to kick out any unwanted yellow tones to my hair. It is important to give yourself a really good scrub to make sure the purple pigment is on every strand of hair. Leave the shampoo on for a good 5-10 minutes. If your hair is super yellow, consider applying a generous amount of shampoo onto your dry hair and leaving it on for no longer than 15 minutes. Once I get out of the shower, I like to apply a hair moisturizer such as Lush’s R&B Hair Moisturizer to my mids and ends first, then working up to my roots. This product has never failed to make my hair feel super soft and healthy once dry, AND it smells amazing! Another product that I really love is Surface’s Bassu Oil. All you need is a dime sized amount for your whole entire head. This is the same oil that I’ve mentioned at the beginning, so you will receive the same benefits AND it acts as a heat protectant if you wish to style your hair. It leaves your hair looking silky smooth and shiny. Lastly, about every 2 weeks or so (or whenever I feel like my hair needs it), I love to use Davine’s Renaissance Circle Hair Mask in the shower. It contains Babassu (shocker, right?) and yellow clay, which helps to re-compact the hair structure to make it look healthier and stronger! It is very important to leave this mask on for a minimum of 15 minutes or else you will not get the results you’re looking for. I can’t stress enough how much I love this product, guys. My hair literally feels like butter and so strong after using it! And that’s about it! If you guys enjoyed this post, please let me know in the comments below! I have so much more knowledge to share so feel free to ask any questions you have about hair. I’d love to make more posts like these! Thanks for reading. 🌸💕@JameiLauren
Ladies one of our Curlfriend idols, Tracee Ellis Ross has dropped a hair care line for us girls with all types of curl patterns!! The line is called Pattern Beauty and she just released the Phase 2 launch of the line which has expanded giving us curl friends something worth talking about! I have tried all but one product from the line so this is my honest feed back. Today I will be talking strictly about the Phase 2 portion of the line. This part of her collection consists of a mist, two gels, edge control & styling cream. I think the fact that she has expanded is amazing because I was really waiting for the growth of this brand. Personally only a couple of the products worked on my hair. I liked the shampoo , conditioner, the mist, styling cream and the edge control. So let’s get into those products. *The shampoo has a lot of slip and hydrated my hair the way I like so it’s amazing and the smell is nice. Light but fresh smelling. *The conditioner is my absolute fav! I use the medium one and honestly it does wonders for my curls! Hydrates, conditions, and keeps my hair feeling soft after my wash. Smell is also very light and wonderful. *The hydrating Mist is great also because it gives the hair the moisture it needs to make the comb through process easy and manageable. Smell is similar to the rest of the products. So you’ll love it. *The styling Cream is very nice. It give my hair the soft texture it needs with the hydration boost. Helps to also make my comb through and brushing process easy for me. Smell is light but pleasing. *The edge control is AMAZING, with a capital A! I have tried several edge controls and this one is by far one of my favs! It gets these baby hairs in order and In Line honey and I love it! It’s definitely a must try item! *The Gels( meaning both) were not my favs. I love a good strong hold when it comes to gel and this didn’t do that for me! It also did not keep my fly always down. Not saying it won’t work for you just me personally, it did not. I recommend this whole line because it is worth a try and the message behind the brand and products is very inspiring for Black women and just women in general! I hope my review helps you make a decision! *Disclaimer- these are my own personal opinions and reviews. Each hair pattern is different and products work different for persons hair so I recommend trying all of her products until you find what works best for your hair type! Just have patience and know curls need love and require time. Keep going to you get your desired curls! #cheriepartner #beautywithoutbarriers Until next time beauty queens💕
Want to learn more about the Curly Girl Method?
BREAD™ Hair-Oil Everyday Gloss $24/3.3 oz 🍞BREAD™ BEAUTY SUPPLY is a black owned business founded in Australia by Maeva Heim. Her straightforward line of key products for curly & textured hair types launched at Sephora a couple months ago. Formulated with simple & natural ingredients, Bread Beauty’s philosophy about “carefree” hair also had my interest. In a recent Allure article, Maeva Heim discussed her relationship with “frizz” & why it shouldn’t be a dirty word... “Women with curly or textured hair haven’t really been included in conversations around 'effortless' hair. I think there's this rhetoric that textured or curly hair is hard, time-consuming to look after & requires lots of product & manipulation... But I want our audience to feel like she can embrace lazy girl hair, too — & that goes for all curl types & textures. What that looks like & what that means will look different across the curl type range, but I want all textures to be able to embrace this carefree ideal if they want to." I love trying new hair oils! I’ll start by saying I don’t actually have a curly hair type, but this oil is well suited for dry hair like mine. With very very thick boring waves (hair type 2B) hair oils are my favorite hair product to instantly give my waves some definition & look put together. I used to use MoroccanOil a lot, but I think I like this better. It’s thinner, as you can see in the photo it ran down my arm before I could grab my phone, but even with the simple bottle design I didn’t have any mess issues. It made my hair so soft!! My hair has always been dry, but moving from sea level to 3000 ft elevation this year made my hair even dryer. I put this oil on partially dry hair after a long headache shower where I didn’t wash my hair but it got wet. That usually wrecks my hair, but this totally brought it back to life! It looked healthy & nourished, definitely not weighed down or greasy at all. Though marketed as lipgloss for hair, I didn’t feel it was overly shiny in any way. I love that it has only 8 ingredients. Some of my favorite moisturizing oils are in here like argan & sweet almond. The only ingredient you may not recognize outright is Capryl Capric Triglycerides; a compound of coconut oil & glycerin, which is valued as a more natural alternative to other synthetic chemicals. Full ingredients are in the slides. Fragrance: I feel like I have some dorky story to go with every scent I’m trying to describe.. but here we go again, it smells specifically like “Bubble Tape” bubble gum! 💗If you know that bubble gum in the circular container... imagine a more mature fainter & more natural version. I adore that smell, I used to save the containers as a kid lol. I love this product! I think it’s a great deal at $24 for 3.3 oz. The box is this gorgeous shade of mint green, the bottle would read more chic if my sticker weren’t crooked, but it’s not a huge deal considering the price point.

Which moisturizer is right for my skin type?
A little bit of moisturizing a day keeps the dry skin away! Moisturizing is crucial to a healthy skin barrier. All 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 help with dry skin. Yet, not all moisturizers are created equal. So, how do you choose the 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿 for your skin? I am breaking it down today for #WinterSkinReliefDay. In general, 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 provide a little bit of water to the skin and contain a greasy substance that holds it in. 𝗠𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿𝘀 are formulated in 𝟯 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: ✅ 𝗢𝗰𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀: greasy/oily and block the evaporation of water from your skin. 💦 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀: pull water into the top layer of your skin both from the air and from deeper layers of the skin. 🧖🏾♀️ 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: not really moisturizering but rather to make the skin feel smooth by replacing absent skin the lipids and oils to fill in all the cracks on the skin, helping smooth out the surface of your skin and repair your skin’s barrier. Here is a cheat sheet to help you select the appropriate moisturizer for your skin. 𝗣𝗿𝗼 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 📅 𝗠𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆, regardless of your skin type. Even oily skin needs moisturizing every day with the right type of moisturizer. Please avoid moisturizing reactively, aka moisturizering 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 when your skin is dry. 🚿 Always apply to 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻. P.S I keep my moisturizer in my shower to apply right after I towel off gently. 🔑 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗿. This is key for the winter 🥶 months. You need both a humectant which draw moisture to the skin and occlusive ingredients which keep water from evaporating off of your skin. 🌓𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗿. This is really important in the winter if you are using humectant heavy moisturizer. The dry air can pull the water out of your skin. Sounds crazy right? 🚫𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. Even if you do not have sensitive skin. Fragrance and coloring are just a set up for possible irritation/allergy and no one has time for that. 🦶🏾 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗸. They too need some TLC. #skincaretips #moisturizer #skincareroutine #skincareproducts #dermatologist #dermatology
