MUST-HAVE Curly Hair Tools Every Curl Girl Needs
Sep. 2, 2020
Diffuser : I mainly use the diffuser to help with my curl definition and volume after styling on wash day.. If I don’t diffuse, my hair still gets definition but stays a little flat and I don’t like that. My favorite diffuser (and the one shown) is the Xtava Diffuser . Since it's big, it dries my hair faster than other smaller diffusers. I prefer to diffuse 1 hour after air drying, and diffuse for about 15 minutes.
Detangling brush : I usually finger-detangle but there are times where I do need the extra help. The Behairful Brush is a must-have! Honestly it melts my tangles away like butter. It saves me from using too much conditioner/product to detangle when I only use my fingers. Not all detangling brushes are the same. I've tried others where I feel it's too rough on my hair and actually causes more breakage. But this one works so smooth and instantly! This detanling brush also works as a styling brush (give you amazing clumps!)
PuffCuffs: The Puff Cuffs are clips you can use in place of hair scruchies or ties. I LOVE the puffcuff because it never leaves a dent in my hair like hair ties sometimes do. I use the puffcuff mainly to sleep and when I workout! (I use it with bobby pins when I workout to secure my hair better) My curls stay intact throughout the whole time!
Shower caps: Saves my hair from getting too wet in the shower when I’m not planning on washing it just yet. I also use it along with my Deep Conditioning Heat Cap 😁
Thermal Heat Cap: The is a MUST-HAVE deep conditioning tool. Heat is important when deep conditioning since it opens the hair cuticle and allows the product to absorb better into your hair. There are other tools that offer the same functionality such as sitting under a hooded dryer but doesn't offer the same freedom as when using a heat cap! (Do you really want to sit there for 30+ mins? Didn't think so!)
Scalp massager: I mainly use the scalp massager as a volumizing tool. There are times where I feel my fingers are too big and can ruin my curls that are stuck at the scalp if I start massaging it, causing frizz. The scalp massager is gentle enough to lift and loosen my roots which brings out the rest of my curls and makes my hair look bigger.
Satin pillowcase, bonnet, hair scruchies: ALL are must-haves for sleeping! If you have curly hair, just switch to satin pillowcases completely. Satin is gentler on the hair compared to cotton since helps prevent breakage and TANGLES, minimizes frizz, and preserves curls better overnight. The bonnet helps to lock in moisture so it prevents me from waking up with really dry curls. I also wake up with most of my curls still intact with minimal frizz! If you’re going to get any of these items, you HAVE to get them from NPTressTreats! (Super cute and customizable options! All hand-made!)
Spray bottle: I use this for my refresh days. Just wets my hair without the risk of over-soaking my hair lol. Or turning on the shower head.. You can get the mist bottles at Amazon.
Microfiber towel: A microfiber towel (A t-shirt also works too) absorbs the excess water out of my hair when I finish styling. I find that my hair clumps better after scrunching the water out with the towel. It also prevents my hair from getting too weighed down with all the extra water.
A Journey of Self 🌹
I figured Black History Month was as good as any opportunity to talk about my self finding. Growing up in a small yet old family, I always had questions about my roots and family history. I also struggled with self conscious doubts about my appearance. Why is my nose this big? Why is my hair this curly? Why am I taller than average? These weighed heavy on my mind growing up because honestly, sticking out sucked. So, I finally dove deep into my family’s origin and decided to do an Ancestry DNA analysis. I immersed myself with every corner of the site. I only got the chance to finish my maternal grandmas side of the family tree, but even that has plenty of gaps. Yet, when I received my DNA results I was stoked. Then I realized, I don’t know much about any of these places. So I dug even deeper. I have a little journal of things I’ve learned and want to know, but this was quite the experience. It was heartbreaking and satisfying at the same time. I highly recommend for every race and background to do this DNA Test. The best part of this was scrolling through photos of the people of the respected countries I was DNA matched to. I swear I saw a girl who looked like me, but everyone else thinks I’m tripping lol. In the end, I’m satisfied with my results and findings. Relatively speaking, this way of self discovery has been the most effective.
Clear skin the gentle way?
Thank you @cheriefor this amazing gift 🤩 “buh-koo-chee-all” HERBIVORE - Bakuchiol Anti-Aging Serum I’ve already become a diehard Herbivore lover. So to receive this beauty was super exciting. When I started my acne journey on Cherie I was (and still am) a Differin Acne Gel stan. This was my choice of retinol and I wanted it strong to treat acne and boost my cellular turnover. Now that my acne is currently under control and it’s getting hot again, I definitely want something smooth and gentle. Bakuchiol is a gentler alternative to the very popular ingredient retinol. So essentially you’ll get overall youthful results for your skin. I haven’t tested this on my acne theory yet, but overall my face has been smooth and irritation free. This serum does not have a smell which I love for products of this caliber. I also love that it’s light and not drying at all. I use this at night and since i have a tolerance to retinol I use it every night. I haven’t been using it long enough to see results (about 12 weeks) but I definitely can’t wait to finish this. Have you tried Bakuchiol?
Do It All Toner 🍃🍃
I have been loving the brand Truly lately ✨ I recently purchased this: 🍃TRULY - CBD Jelly Toning Solution 🍃 And it’s by far one of my favorite toners. Ingredients: 💚100MG CBD 💚Glycolic Acid 💚Tea Tree Oil 💚Organic Aloe 💚Rose Petal Extract This brand is also: 💚Vegan 💚Cruelty Free 💚Clean I use this every other night and it as tremendously helped my skin barrier and acne. I was really concerned about the glycolic acid irritating or drying my skin but it didn’t at all 🤩 I highly recommend this to combo and oily , acne prone skin. This will be a toner I keep in my night routine. I got it from Ulta (of course) for $24 (I paid $15 after coupons) Do you use CBD products? 🍃
DISAPPOINTED BY THESE 100% NATURAL PRODUCTS 😩
I was so excited to try these out because I love moisturizers & I am always in search of a good one! These looked & sounded very promising! They’re from a woman owned company, completely natural, vegan, & cruelty free! However, I was quite disappointed. EARTH HARBOR - MERMAID MILK Nutrient Glow Moisturizer This moisturizer claims to give you a glow right away & it contains spirulina + matcha. I was excited about the matcha because it has so many amazing benefits for skin. It has a very whipped consistency which I like. However it always contains essential oils that were strong, although not toooo strong for my liking. But I’m really just not a fan of essential oils in my face creams. The moisturizer did make my skin appear a little brighter but the cream just sat on my face. All day long I could touch my face & still feel the cream sitting there! I hate that feeling! It also almost gave me a greasy appearance after a while? Not a fan. EARTH HARBOR - SIREN SILK Multi-Tasking Hydration Creme This one was absolutely awful. If I could give it 0 stars I would. It says to use it at night time & the apply it at least 5 minutes before bed so it can absorb on your face & not your pillow. It contains Sea Retinol + other Superherbs which normally make me love a product! But that just wasn’t enough here. First, when I put it on my face my eyes started to actually burn & I felt suffocated from the scent. It was THAT strong. Guys, I’m not being dramatic at all. The smell like attacked me it was crazy! I have never had something like that happen with a face cream! I couldn’t believe how strong the fragrance was. & to top it off, it wasn’t even a pretty smell. My husband described it as smelling like floor cleaner. But I powered through. The longer I had it on, the more “used” to the smell I got. So, I wore it overnight. But then I woke up even more upset with it! I had pilling all over my face. It almost looked like my face was peeling but it wasn’t, it was jus the cream. One thing I cannot stand about a moisturizer is pulling. That’s enough for me to throw it out! It also didn’t really even moisturize my face that well! All in all, I hated this experience. But if you want, you should try them out for yourself, don’t let my experience deter you from trying something new! I however, will be sticking with my Youth To The People Dream Mask & Superfood Whipped Moisturizer! Love those two!! YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE - Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream 💗💗💗 @cherie@Cheriebeauty@CheriePick
