The 5 best home treatments for dry and damaged hair

You thought you could get away with shampoo and conditioner. “But it says ‘for dry and damaged hair!’” you protest. If you’ve got dry and damaged hair, your hair deserves a lot better. And this means developing a whole course of treatment that starts before you shampoo all the way to day-to-day treatments like hair masks. If your skin was dry you’d do something to give it some heavy nourishment and moisturization, and the same goes for your hair.
Go nuts with coconut
Funnily enough, if your hair soaks up too much moisture it could end up looking duller and drier. Why’s that? Not only does water absorption cause hair strands to swell, it’s because your hair needs a healthy balance of natural oils that are secreted by your hair follicles, and if you deprive your hair too much of this oil, you’ll damage its health, making it dry, dull and brittle.
Enter coconut oil. Apply it to the shaft of your hair 20-30 minutes before shampooing to form a barrier that prevents too much water absorption when your wash your hair. For all its coconutty goodness, you will want to shampoo and condition thoroughly though, because coconut oil left on hair for too long can cause greasy, heavy strands which can damage your hair in other ways. Best to avoid.
Cold water
I know how good it feels to splash hot water all over your head. It’s what they do at salons anyway right? But it’s actually a well-known fact to many hairstylists that a cold water rinse leads to shinier, more lustrous locks. That’s because cold water closes and protects your hair cuticle, which is the opposite of what hot water and humidity does. If you’re a bit shy of the cold, don’t cut your cold rinse short; that can lead to hair residue being left in your hair, making your cold rinse treatment good for making your hair shiny, but bad for actually cleaning your hair. If you’re not quite sure how to do this effectively, try this: wrap a wet towel with cold water around your hair, and let the towel return to room temperature. Then shampoo and condition your hair, and rinse with cold water. Finally, gently comb your hair shaft from root to end. I promise you that you’ll find your hair softer and shinier.
Extra virgin olive oil
With extra virgin olive oil. Yes, that stuff belongs on your salad, but can also be applied to your head. It is no secret for folks who live under the Mediterranean sun just how nourishing extra virgin olive oil can be. It has anti-inflammatory effects and many healthy fats that are perfect for conditioning and nourishing your hair. If you’re gonna put anything in your hair though, make sure it’s extra-virgin. Any other types of olive oil won’t make the cut, because the extraction methods are different and the other types of olive oil may have nutrients stripped out and also contain unwanted ingredients for your hair.
Hello, aloe
As well as being an after sun, aloe vera can actually be an absolutely awesome hair treatment ingredient. Use it on its own, or mix it in with other nourishing ingredients like honey and coconut oil. Leave it in your hair for about half an hour before shampooing and you’ll find not only your hair softer, but your scalp more tender. If you’re not feeling aloe-ed out yet, go crazy with an aloe leave-in conditioner spray.
Shower with potato flour
As boring as potatoes look, they pack tons of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B, vitamin C and iron that can go a long way to improve your hair’s health. And if you’re not a fan of mash, I’ve got some good news for you – there’s no eating involved. You can DIY your own shampoo by using potato flour. Grab your apron and let’s head to the kitchen. To make your potato flour shampoo, simply combine ¼ cup of potato flour and 2 cups of water in a saucepan, mix thoroughly until smooth, and set it on low heat for 15 minutes. Once removed from the heat, add 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and let it cool, and you’re done! Use instead of your traditional shampoo once or twice, weekly.
As with anything, a little love goes a long way. And you can show your hair that you care by going an extra mile. Although it might feel out of whack to put honey on your hair or to venture into the kitchen to cook something that you’ll apply to your scalp, every bit of effort will help kick out that dryness and restore that lustrous, nourished, glowing look you deserve.

Mineral Spring Water What is the price? $18.50CAD Where can you purchase? Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall Pharmacy and online How long have I been using it for? I’ve been using thermal water for over two years, I started off using this product on my body and now still use it on my face What is my experience ? My experience with thermal water has been good, I suffer from eczema on both my body and face. It was hard finding products that wouldn’t irritate or cause a flare up. When that happened this product saved my skin and soothed it. At first I was not exactly sure how water would help my skin, but after doing research thermal waters are meant to have healing properties for the body and skin. What are my thoughts? This product is nothing short of amazing, you are able to use it for multiple areas and it lasts so long. The mist is super fine which makes it perfect for spraying on large or small spots, and pressing into the skin similar to how you apply a toner. Would I recommend to a friend? I would absolutely recommend this product to a friend or family or even someone looking to help soothe their skin but who doesn’t want to break the bank!! My overall rating? 5/5 Would I repurchase? Is 𝗜𝗦𝗗𝗜𝗡 𝗘𝗿𝘆𝗳𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗮 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗨𝗹𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 tinted mineral sunscreen worth the hype? #Isdin - ISDIN Eryfotona Ageless Ultralight tinted mineral sunscreen[products]#[FourStars] Pros ☀️ 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 sunscreen aka physical blocker, thus broad spectrum ☀️ Contains 𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀, though unclear of percent. May provide protection against blue light. ☀️ One of the few tinted moisturizers that blends in well in skin of color. The tint is so homogenous and nice that you can away with not applying foundation after. ☀️ Contains 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗮𝘀𝗲, an enzyme, that help repair damage caused by the sun. Not too thick or too thin, apply easily on the skin. ☀️ contains 𝗩𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻 𝗘, an antioxidant as well as moisturizing Cons 🥴 𝗢𝗶𝗹𝘆, would not recommend for oily skin 😱 $$$ 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲, it is definitely a splurge when there are comparable more frugal options out there.

A Year in review!
A Year in review!
This year has definitely been a wild ride. I’ve learned so much more about my hair and skin in this last year than I ever thought I would or needed to know! All the way from using witch hazel and not paying attention to my curl pattern, to staying completely fragrance free with face products and staying away from harsh toners and paying attention to what my hair was trying to do! Using this app has really opened doors for me that I wouldn’t thought possible for my beauty process! I can’t wait to see what more years bring me, and us! Thank you @cherie!
