11 Tips for Bouncy and Beautiful Curls in 2020

Aug. 31
Selecting the right products and following best practices for curly hair can significantly improve curl definition. You can also change up your haircut to flatter your curls more.
If you’re struggling to bring definition to curly hair, you aren’t alone. So, how to get defined curls?
There are plenty of techniques and tricks you can try to make your curls pop. Whether you have 4C curls or bountiful corkscrews, check out our tips for curl definition.
#1. Wash Gently
Are you an aggressive scrubber who likes to make sure your hair is pristine from root-to-tip? Maybe you go with the flow, and rub shampoo throughout your hair?
Unfortunately, you could be contributing to unwanted frizz.
Instead, try not to tangle or stress your mane out while you wash it. Don’t do the classic hair flip—stand upright and gently massage shampoo through your locks.
#2. Always Moisturize
Parched curls will never look as defined as healthy, moisturized ones. A monthly deep conditioning mask won’t cut it.
It might take time to discover your perfect conditioning schedule, but don’t be afraid to experiment.
Use a leave-in moisturizer after each wash like SheaMoisture Curl & Style Milk.
If your strands are parched, try a deep conditioning mask such as Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Moisturizing Mask.
#3. Dry Carefully
There’s a reason why the classic wash-and-go is a popular style for curly hair! Overdrying your hair can deplete moisture, which can cost precious definition.
No need to go rough with a towel: gently squeeze water out of your hair, and then start applying products.
If you must towel-dry, dab at it with an absorbent microfiber one like /kit·sch/ Microfiber Hair Towel.
#4. Apply Products to Wet Hair
When your hair is still wet, it’s the perfect time to start adding your styling products. Use a brush or comb that’s curl-friendly, or use your fingers to prevent clumping.
Make sure you distribute your product evenly by sectioning your hair. You can’t do your whole head at once or you’re bound to miss patches.
This way, your tresses will dry with a near-perfect curl definition.
#5. Use Oils on Dry Hair
Oils can weigh down wet hair, so you should save them for when your hair is dry. You can use them for a hydrating boost in-between washes.
Ideally, try not to overdo the ultra-heavy oils or serums: you don’t want a greasy look. Lightweight, healthy botanicals such as argan or jojoba oil are the way to go.

#6. Consider Your Cut
Don’t look so shocked—a fresh cut can bring new life to poorly-defined curls. If you’ve tried everything and your locks are still lackluster, your haircut might be the culprit.
Seek out a stylist who holds experience working with curly hair. Shearing off volume isn’t always the right tactic and can cost you the precious definition you crave.
Flattering styles for curls usually have layers and movement. If your hair looks more like a helmet than anything else, your hair isn’t at its best advantage.
#7. Invest in Quality Hair Cosmetics
If you cheap out on your hair care products, you’re only hurting yourself. Now, that doesn’t mean you should splurge like a Kardashian-Jenner—but buy quality.
Look for items that are highly-reviewed and appropriate for curly hair. Better yet, purchase products for your specific curl type, e.g., dry and curly, 4C, etc.
#8. Don’t Overdo Styling
A major advantage of being blessed with curly hair is that you don’t have to style it. In fact, messing with your locks too much can sap definition.
Apply your conditioners and oils, but don’t touch it after that! Playing with your hair frequently or brushing it all the time will take you straight to frizz-town.
Similarly, heat is a major no-no. Not only can curlers and straighteners suck the moisturize out of your hair, but they can also cause damage with time.

#9. Scrunch Carefully, or Not At All
Scrunching isn’t as essential as you might think it is. If your hair on the wavier side, it can be a useful technique—but for curls, it can be unnecessary and result in frizz.\
If you think scrunching can help, wait until your tresses are fully or nearly dry. Scrunch up the ends rather than the body of your hair to lower the risk of a frizz-splosion.
#10. Try Twist Outs
Twist-outs are fun protective styles that can have you waking up with ravishing curls. From single-strand twists to flat-twists, there’s a bunch of options to get creative with.
The downside is that twist-outs are time-consuming to do, although they can yield epic results.
#11. Cool Curl Accessories
Flexible rods like this Jumbo Spongy Rod Hair Rollers from HOT TOOLS are optimal for curly and kinky hair. They’ll help your wet hair set to reveal defined curls—leave them in until your hair is 100 percent dry, or it’ll likely clump.

No-Heat Style
No-Heat Style
Let’s learn a no heat style! Start by gathering your hair to one side Begin a rope braid in the front by twisting two pieces. Add hair to each section and twist again. Continue this pattern until you reach your ear. Split the remaining hair into two. While holding the section pop index finger and thumb through. Grab through the other section and repeat! Secure with an elastic. Xo
Kylie x Grinch - Worth the Hype?
Kylie x Grinch - Worth the Hype?
Review time!!! I just received the entire Kylie Cosmetics Grinch Collection in the mail this week & I want to break down each product and tell you what I loved and didn’t love. Palette: I’m not one that reaches for tons of colour usually but all the greens in this palette are gorgeous! There’s a mix of matte and shimmer shades, and as usual, the shadows blend like a dream! The good thing about this palette is that there are still some neutral shades rather than just greens. I definitely appreciate the mixture of shades. Shadow Sticks: The Kylie shadow sticks are probably one of my favourite products they have ever released. They are so extremely pigmented, and so easy to apply. They’re basically fool proof, and they set as a shadow. If you haven’t tried them out, I highly suggest you do! In this collection we have a super pretty light shimmery green, light gold, and two rosy toned shadow sticks. Shimmer Eye Glazes: This product is insane. They are a super intensely pigmented eyeshadow that leaves the lids looking wet & dripping in glitter! One swipe of these on the lid is literally all you need for that intense shimmer. If you’re someone who loves super shimmery eyeshadow, I recommend giving the Kylie Cosmetics Shimmer Eye Glazes a try. This collection came with 2 shades: a minty turquoise green and a gold - & I’m obsessed and so happy to be adding these to my collection!! Olive Kyliner: My go to liquid liner is the black Kyliner, so i wasn’t surprised when i loved the easy application and long wearing quality of this olive Kyliner! The liner applies a lighter olive green and dries down to a deeper olive shade. It’s definitely not something I’d reach for everyday, although it’s definitely cute for the holidays or even for a pop of colour to a neutral eye! Blush: I am a huge fan of the Kylie Cosmetics Blushes as opposed to the other blushes I’ve tried from the brand this one had some shimmer in it! It’s quite similar to the NARS “orgasm” blush but with a stronger pink hue. I love the shimmer in it, it adds a pretty glow to the cheeks, perfect for the holidays.. or any day really :P Highlight: Def on theme, but probably my least favourite product in of the collection :( Don’t get me wrong, it’s super blinding and glowy. Although, once I applied to my face it showed off as very green. Personally I don’t want a green glow on my face! But hey, if that’s your vibe that’s cool! Definitely not a highlight I’d reach for everyday. Lip Kit: Obsessed. This red is EVERYTHING! This Lip Kit is one of the best reds I have ever tried. It has a matte finish and is extremely long wearing. I know it’s sold out but a similar shade would be “BOSS” by Kylie. Lipsticks: These shades are gorg for the holidays and I love the shade range! Long wearing & comfortable on the lips. High Glosses: Kylies high glosses are high shine, but very sticky! So if you’re not a fan of sticky glosses you won’t love these. These shades are perf for the holidays and everyday!

Tips from a dermatologist on sunscreen ☀️
Tips from a dermatologist on sunscreen ☀️
Let’s talk about sunscreen ☀️ What’s a good sunscreen to wear? One that is: * Broad-spectrum protection (protects against UVA and UVB rays) * SPF 30 or higher * Water resistant This will help protect your skin from early skin aging, sunburn, and skin cancer. What is the difference between chemical and physical sunscreens? Chemical sunscreens work like a sponge, absorbing the sun’s rays. They contain one or more of the following ingredients: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, and octinoxate. These are often easier to rub into the skin without a white cast. Physical sunscreens (aka mineral sunscreens) act like a shield, sitting on the surface of your skin and deflecting the sun’s rays. These can come on white. They have the active ingredients zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide Reapply every 2 hours when outside in the sun ☀️ Some of my favorites: Tinted: Cerave tinted, la roche posay tinted, alastin CeraVe - Face Sheer Tint Hydrating Sunscreen SPF 30 LA ROCHE-POSAY - Anthelios 50 Mineral Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50 ALASTIN SKINCARE - HydraTint Pro Mineral Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 36 Not tinted: colorescience, drunk elephant colorescience - Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield SPF 50 Sunscreen DRUNK ELEPHANT - Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 What’s your favorite sunscreen?
