Definition? Gone. Shine? Takes a back seat to frizz. While I can’t promise my tricks will work for every curl type, these are my tried and true methods for lasting definition. Overnight Bantu knotsThis requires some prior planning, but the results give incredible definition. I section my hair as I go, and typically make about 10-14 knots around my head, depending on the size of each knot. Smaller Bantu knots give tighter curls, and larger knots give looser ones. To combat summer humidity, I recommend making slightly smaller knots. The curls might be tighter than you like at first, but they will loosen over time and ultimately last longer than starting off with a looser curl. To make a Bantu knot, I first take a section of hair and make a double strand twist. Then, I curl the twist around my finger until the hair becomes taut, and wrap the twist around itself like a little mountain. My hair texture allows me to secure the knot just by wrapping the end of the twist underneath, but if you find your knots come out easily, you can also use small rubber bands to secure them. Frequent moisturizingMy best curls come when I oil my scalp every two to three days! My favorite hair oil is Design Essentials Hair & Scalp Treatment—it smells good and leaves my hair looking soft and shiny without being too oily. Holding spray or leave-in conditionerThis is a quick method for maintaining definition and keeping your curls poppin’! I just put a quick spritz over my hair before putting it in Bantu knots, or spray a little bit before I take the knots out. I haven’t gotten a keratin treatment in almost two years, but when I got them regularly, supplementing with It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Conditioner worked wonders for making my hair less frizzy (I have yet to encounter a product that actually makes my hair “frizz-free,” no matter what the ads promise). I would spray it onto my hair before putting it into Bantu knots at night, or spritz some over the Bantu knots about half an hour before taking them out. Hair holding sprays have also worked with varying levels of success, and in the past I’ve just sprayed them directly onto the Bantu knots before taking them out, or sprayed my curls directly before leaving the house. However, the brands I’ve tried so far have left my hair feeling a little greasy, so I’m still perfecting this method! If anyone has a hair holding spray that they love for curls, I would love to hear about it!

What it means to blowdry down the hair cuticle!
Let’s simplify what it means when a hairstylist says to blow dry down the hair cuticle: When you think of your hair, think of the shingles on a roof. They’re all laying down but on top of each other. The cuticle of our hair is doing the same! When we blow dry up or at the hair cuticle, it causes all those little shingles to stand up- causing frizz, loss of moisture, and hair damage. When we blow dry down the hair cuticle, all the shingles can lay flat against each other and be the protective barrier that they’re supposed to be. If you’re having trouble with extra frizz or loss of moisture pay attention to the direction that your blow drying. This could make all the difference!

My Top 5 Foundations for Oily Skin
Here are my top 5 foundations for oily/combination/acne prone skin! These are by no means my only favorite foundations, just the ones I keep going back to. 1. ESTĒE LAUDER - Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation This matte, oil-free foundation controls oil all day. It’s sweat, heat and humidity-resistant, waterproof and 24-hour colour true. With buildable, medium-to-full coverage that feels lightweight and so comfortable. No touchups needed. Best for hot weather/ holidays. The only Downside is that it doesn’t come with a pump 2. MAYBELLINE - Fit Me! Matte & Poreless Foundation This foundation is a must have if you are looking for a good drugstore option for oily skin. It’s super affordable and gives a beautiful finish without feeling heavy on the skin. 3. HUDA BEAUTY - Fauxfilter Foundation is perfect for you if you are looking for full coverage. Just a couple of pumps go a long way. However, the formula isn’t ideal for anyone with dry skin or for people sensitive to string fragrances. 4. L'ORÉAL - Infallible Pro-Matte Liquid Longwear Foundation This formula blends unbelievably well and you can build this to completely full coverage! ! I'm beyond impressed for this being drugstore. 5. The Ordinary - Colours Coverage Foundation with SPF 15 this is my everyday foundation and gives good enough coverage. I just have to mix two different shades to get my color as the range is quiet limited but for the price I pay, I don’t mind. Always stay away form words like “dewy”, “luminous”, “shiny” , “glowy” if you have oily skin. Let me know if you have any questions.
