🍚Is Rice Water for Hair Growth Really the Next Big Trend?

We all want stronger, shinier and more resilient hair, and we often feel as though the only way to achieve our dream hair is to spend a lot of money in the salon on treatments.
Whether it’s due to clever marketing or simply because we’re dubious about inexpensive products, it’s easy to imagine that the most nourishing and hydrating products for our hair are the most expensive! While of course many of these treatments really are spectacular (collagen treatment, anyone?), there are inexpensive ways to get luscious, healthy hair.
Sometimes the most effective treatments can be bought for next-to-nothing, or even found in our kitchens! If you’ve only just heard about rice water for hair growth, stick around, because this is definitely something you need to hear about!
Is Rice Water for Hair Really Just Rice Water?
Okay, we know what you’re thinking: is this hair treatment really about the water that comes from rinsed rice? Yes, it really is.
In ancient Japan, women used to wash their hair with the rinse water of rice. This practice was known as Yu-Su-Ru and was said to reduce the hair’s surface friction and increase its elasticity. These women had incredibly shiny hair that often reached the ground (although we’re not promising that rice water will do that!), and they were the envy of all those who encountered them. This hair treatment remained a secret for a very long time until some Westerners ventured to Japan and noticed the incredibly long, shiny hair of the Japanese women and simply had to find out their secret!
Why is Rice Water So Effective for Hair Growth?
When information about ancient Japanese hair traditions became more mainstream, scientists were intrigued and decided to delve into further research on the topic.
They soon discovered that Inositol, a carbohydrate that is found in rice water, can penetrate and heal dry, damaged hair. Not only this, but Inositol also works over a long time, offering protection against future heat and environmental damage. Is there anything this little carb can’t do?

Analysis of rice water has also found that it is rich in vitamins, B and C specifically, as well as many minerals such as magnesium, zinc, selenium, among others, and plenty of fiber. All these nutrients work to revitalize damaged hair and bring life back into your follicles and scalp, helping to make your hair and scalp healthier.
Rice water is also full of antioxidant properties, which can even help prevent hair loss and early grays. The combination of the nutrients and antioxidants create the perfect environment for strong, healthy hair growth.
Now that we know why this unsuspecting hero is so amazing for our hair and hair growth, let’s look at how you can prepare it.
How to Prepare Rice Water for Hair Growth?
Firstly, you’ll need equal parts rice and water. And then… nope, that’s it! Just rice and water. Start off with 1 cup of each, and make more if you find you go through a lot of it.
  • Rinse and strain your rice, just as you would if you were about to cook it. This will rid the rice of any dirt, impurities or excess starch. You don’t want to rinse your hair with starchy water!
  • Mix your rice and water in a medium bowl until the water becomes muddy-looking or cloudy.
  • Strain the rice, but this time reserve the water. Set aside your rice for later cooking!
  • Place your rice water in a plastic container, cover it and let it sit at room temperature for any time between 12 and 24 hours. Any less time than this and the rice won’t ferment and fewer of the vitamins will be released. Any more than this and it will go bad!
  • Refrigerate your rice water until you are ready to shampoo and condition your hair.
  • Fill a small container with the rice water for shower application and keep the rest in your fridge for up to a week.
  • (You can cook and freeze your rice to microwave for meals later!)
How to Apply Rice Water for Hair Growth?
You can apply your rice water treatment at any time – even after you’ve shampooed and conditioned. (Just don’t apply it before your shampoo, as it will likely strip it right out.) What’s great about this treatment is that it doesn’t matter how often you do it, you won’t get build up or residue.
When you’re applying the rice water, pay particular attention to your scalp as this is where you make or break your hair growth. Massage the skin at the top of your head and work your way out. Let the rice water sit in your hair for a couple of minutes, then rinse it out.
Ta-da! It’s such a simple process. Okay, it may seem a little cumbersome at first, but it’s so worth it for the extra-shiny and glossy hair you’ll have at the end. Plus, after doing it once, you’ll realize that it’s just one extra step in your hair care routine, and the payoff is huge!
Now, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and try it out for yourself. Get that rice rinsed and hop in the shower!

Double Your Lash Length With Sky High Mascara!
I bought this mascara after seeing a post about it on Facebook. I love trying out new mascaras but rarely do I find one that I will use regularly like my beloved tarte - Maneater Mascara However this stuff is good. MAYBELLINE - Lash Sensational Sky High Waterproof Mascara It gave my lashes so much volume & length they literally doubled in size! My lashes are already pretty long to begin with but this made them look amazing. The photo is after applying only one coat so I can only imagine how good they will look after two or three coats! It also didn’t clump up my lashes at all. I applied it really quickly & lazily too because I was in a rush to get ready & I was still amazed! I honestly think this is going to be my new daily mascara. It is waterproof but not the annoying kind that leaves your eyes completely black when you go to take it off. It came off really easily with my POND'S - Facial Moisturizers Dry Skin Cream which is what I’ve always used to remove my eye makeup, since I was a kid! @cherie@Cheriebeauty@CheriePick

    Wednesday Wellness 🙏🏾
This past week has been rather hard and long for me. I ultimately decided to get back on track with my wellness plan. My main wellness goal for 2021, is to indulge in myself more. I definitely am a firm believe in “as within, so without”. I started my day with: #Four Sigmatic - Mushroom Elixir Mix with Chaga[products]#[FiveStars] I have been getting back into adaptogen and herbal medicine. What we put into our bodies is just as important as what goes on the outside. Adaptogens are apart of ancient medicinal traditions traced all over the world. I also drink Tulsi “Holy Basil” Tea. If you need a pick me up or emotional boost I highly recommend! SUNDAY RILEY - U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil is my treatment of choice I used during the day. Do not be afraid to use salicylic acid during the day. I applied plenty of sunscreen afterwards as well! This is a GODSEND for clearing up acne and acne scarring. It’s by far the best acne treatment I’ve tried and its mostly due to the immediate results I get. This is a dry oil, so it should be used before a heavy moisturizer or sunscreen. THE BODY SHOP - Spa of the World Thai Makrut Lime Firming Oil is a staple in my night time routine. When I want to relax and really unwind I use a body roller with this oil. It smells like a fresh key lime pie and it’s so hydrating. This is great for firming, especially when paired with a body tool. What do you do for wellness?

    HOLY GRAIL SPF 🌞🌞🌞
Okay guys as I have said before I am guilty of rarely ever wearing sunscreen. I just never liked the feel of it on my skin. I always felt like it made me greasy & clogged my pores. However, once I heard about this product I was very intrigued. NIOD - Survival 30 It actually isn’t sold in the United States for some reason so I had to purchase it on a UK website. (Beauty Bay) It is an antioxidant serum with SPF 30. At first, it appears to be tinted but it’s actually not. On NIOD’s website they state: “The slight tinted appearance is derived from the active technologies including Lutein, Fractionated Melanin and Pycnogenol.” It blends in with your skin so easily & does not leave a white cast like some other SPF products. However this serum literally makes my skin tone soo even & perfect! It also contains silicone so it completely smooths over my pores. AND besides all that great stuff, it’s a mineral sunscreen! So it protects against environmental & lifestyle issues. Like UV rays, blue light, etc. I have never loved a product as much as this one! I literally cannot believe how good my skin looks while using this stuff! For a 30ml bottle, I paid $33 on the Beauty Bay site. For me, that is completely worth it! It comes in this adorable packaging & pretty glass bottle. It also has a pump dispenser & squirts out the perfect amount for a single use! I really can’t recommend this stuff enough guys! It’s wonderful!! @cherie@Cheriebeauty@CheriePick
    At Home Exfoliating Facial ✨✨
    At Home Exfoliating Facial ✨✨
So I recently received the Mimi Co Exfoliating Wand via IG PR. I couldn’t wait to do a full facial and I decided to do it tonight. Order: I purchased a steamer from Amazon for $23 and I’m obsessed with it (DM me for product info). I started with UpCircle - Cleansing Face Balm With Apricot Powder As my oil cleanse to get my sunscreen from today off and any other oils and dirts. INDIE LEE - Purifying Face Wash This cleanser is perfect for getting dirts and oils from skin as well. It’s not drying and it’s totally worth it! I paired it with a face cleansing scrub brush, I also purchased from Amazon. I love it and I paid around $20 for it as well! It doubles the vibration frequency put out by Foreo. CLARISMA - Namaste Glow Energizing Face Mask This was the mask I chose for the enzyme properties. This breaks down dirts and oils in pores and dead skin cells. I also steamed my face during this time. Follain - Toning Mist: Balance + Prime This was what I sprayed over my face for the prep for my exfoliating wand. I didn’t have a true medium and I am out of Aloe Vera plants so😭 I then exfoliated with my wand starting at my cheeks and working upward and then to my forehead. I went down and to the sides of my nose. Glow slow! innisfree - Jeju Lava Seawater Lotion I used the toner to cleanse my skin and get any dirts left over from me exfoliating. SUMMER FRIDAYS - Jet Lag Mask I use this as my hydrating mask. I took the back of my Mimi Co Wand on switched to the Moisturizing Setting. I gently slid upwards my entire face for the last 2 mins only and then wiped the mask off with a damp cloth. earthtoskin - Tea Time Anti Aging Eye Cream This is the most hydrating eye cream I own. I used this with the back of my cleansing brush on the heat setting! Yes it made my eye feel so hydrated and relaxed. fresh - Lotus Anti-Aging Night Moisturizer This was the final step as a good moisturizer seals in everything! To prevent acne I use the SUNDAY RILEY - U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil as my last step. I didn’t use an astringent type toner, so I wanted to still treat my skin💚
