Fabulous! Six foundations for mature skin worth buying !

Aug. 26
There are so many foundations on the market right now, each promising different benefits for your skin - light or full coverage, matte finish or dewy glow, hydrating or oil-control, not to mention finding a brand that has the right skin tone for you! As our skin matures, it’s even more important than ever to make sure you get the right foundation for you - because no-one wants their makeup to look heavy or cakey.
Particular challenges that our skin faces as we get older can include dehydration, the appearance of fine lines and creases and discoloration from sun damage. It’s best to avoid ultra-mattifying or full-coverage foundations, which can look heavy and settle in fine lines.
Here, we’ve found six fabulous foundations, from luxe to drugstore, that will hydrate, improve skin texture and even out skin tone, while providing sufficient coverage, and a glowing finish.
1. Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation SPF10
Although this product from Estee Lauder is a matte foundation, it’s certainly not heavy or cakey. It’s oil-free and sweat, water and humidity resistant and offers long wearing coverage, making it suitable for oilier and combination mature skin types (sadly, this isn’t the preserve of those in their teens and twenties). It helps balance out uneven skin tones and blurs imperfections, while providing long-lasting coverage. There are over 60 shades to choose from, so there’s bound to be one to suit your coloring.
2. bareMinerals Original Loose Mineral Foundation SPF15
Powder foundation on mature skin - won’t it just highlight my lines and creases and look...powdery?
bareMinerals Original Loose Mineral Foundation is very lightweight and provides buildable coverage for a luminous no-makeup makeup look. It’s suitable for sensitive skins (in fact they claim it’s so pure, you can sleep in it, but we’re not sure your pillowcases would thank you for that!), and won’t cause breakouts or dry your skin. The application technique is different to a standard cream or liquid foundation due to its powder formulation, but once you’ve mastered the 3 stages - ‘swirl, tap, buff’, you’re well away.
3. Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Long Wear Foundation
This foundation from the Lancôme stable is formulated to be durable yet lightweight for a natural, no makeup look. Although it has mattifying properties, it allows your skin to breathe, providing a light, sheer coverage to balance out any imperfections or uneven skin tone, and is available in 40 shades.
4. Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation
This iconic foundation from Giorgio Armani Beauty has added SPF 20 and a velvety finish. It feels incredibly lightweight, but it’s up to you whether you apply just a light layer to even out your skin, or build up a greater level of coverage to conceal age and dark spots. The formulation is long-lasting, and is sufficiently hydrating to achieve a glowing, dewy finish on mature skin.
5. L'Oreal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Makeup
This foundation from drugstore favorite L’Oreal Paris boasts over 45 shades, formulated as a result of over a decade’s research. It is super-hydrating and provides medium, blendable coverage that is buildable, but natural. It is formulated with Pro-Vitamin B5 and Vitamin E for healthy skin, and is oil-free so it won’t block pores.
6. IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Foundation + Skincare
This clever product from IT Cosmetics is more than just a foundation - it contains hyaluronic acid, aloe vera extract, plus vitamins E & B5 to actively hydrate and care for your skin, meaning it has many of the properties of a serum. Light in formulation, it is moisturizing and provides sufficient coverage for a natural radiant finish, and won’t settle into fine lines or creases.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a humectant that famously holds 1000 times its weight in water. It pulls in water from the environment and from the deeper layers of your skin. This ingredient seems to be ubiquitous in skincare products nowadays and it can be found in a lot of moisturizers. Benefits: -Immediately plumps the skin, softening fine lines and wrinkles -Hydrates the skin (specifically high-molecular-weight HA) -Assists in wound healing Dermatologist Tips: -Hyaluronic acid is your first step after cleansing -Must be applied to damp skin! -If you live in a dry climate, make sure to moisturize immediately after -Can be used once or twice a day -Safe to layer with most other skincare ingredients My Top Picks: VICHY - Minéral 89 Face Serum This contains a high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, which has moisturizing properties and sits on the surface of the skin without causing inflammation. This also has matrixyl 3000 peptide, which can stimulate collagen synthesis Neutrogena - Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Serum Both high and low-molecular weight hyaluronic acid for added benefits. This also contains glycerin (another amazing humectant) and vitamin B5 (an amazing anti-oxidant) NATURIUM - Quadruple Hyaluronic Acid Serum 5% A great option fragrance-free, cruelty-free option from Naturium! Let’s learn a criss cross braid!
Let’s learn a criss cross braid!
Start with your hair in 4 quadrants or sections. Begin a Dutch or French braid on either front section and continue until the end of the section When you drop your next section, drop from the opposite side. Continue braid and secure with an elastic Continue braid on opposite front section. When you reach the previous braid hop over and grab hair from the new section. Secure with an elastic. That’s it! You have a criss cross braid! Xo
