Dermaplaning Do's and Don'ts
Aug. 14, 2020
Have you ever heard of dermaplaning? It can be tricky to understand the true concept of this when you see tools everywhere that claim to promise you professional results. According to skininc.com, “Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz).” This treatment will make your skin appear brighter and smoother after each treatment.
Look, I’m sure the idea of having the tool against your face is terrifying. Trust me, the idea worried me too. A lot of my friends show videos of their clients getting it done and the results continue to amaze me. You may see products in the market that claim to provide the same results as you would as a professional dermaplaning treatment. Unfortunately, the results are not the same. You are at risk of scratching or creating microtears into your skin if anything. Plus, it is difficult to properly disinfect a razor blade.
What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning tools you see in stores are more like razors and do not provide the same results as professional dermaplaning. Healthline.com states, “ Dermaplaning is a skin treatment that uses an exfoliating blade to skim dead skin cells and hair from your face.” A new blade is used for each treatment to avoid the spread of bacteria and contamination. Count me in!
Benefits of dermaplaning treatments
As we age, cell turnover rate decreases, which means exfoliating 1-3 times a week becomes crucial to help shed dead skin cells. Another benefit of dermaplaning is that by removing “vellus hair” (peach fuzz), your makeup can blend easier. Not only that, but you will notice your skincare products penetrate into the skin more effectively after doing this professional treatment.
Safe for pregnant women
This treatment can be a great option for women who are pregnant looking for safe skincare treatments. Dermaplaning can also be a gentler alternative to waxing. Oftentimes, waxing or threading can irritate your skin and cause acne breakouts.
**Disclaimer: Please consult with your esthetician or dermatologist before considering dermaplaning treatment if you have sensitive skin or are pregnant. This treatment may cause irritation to acne-prone skin, those with rosacea, or sensitive skin.

Thank you @cheriefor this amazing gift 🤩🤩 Something thing I am very particular about is my moisturizer. My skin barrier tends need the extra TLC and the best thing to give it is moisture. So when I look for a moisturizer I need something that gives me instant hydration and doesn’t clog my pores. So when I received the : BASE BUTTER - Radiate Face Jelly Aloe Vera Gel Face Moisturizer I was so excited! The Brand : ✨Black Owned ✨Women Owned ✨Cruelty Free ✨Non-Comedogenic ✨Vegan ✨Paraben Free 🔑 Ingredients : ✨Aloe Vera Juice ✨Shea Butter ✨Evening Primrose Oil Okay, as you can see your girl woke up DULL! The only thing I did for this video was wash my face and use this to show y’all the transformation! I was using this EVERY night but last night I used my acne treatment routine and your girl FELT THAT (salicylic acid can be so drying to my combo skin). What’s my favorite part? This baby doesn’t have a smell or heavy greasy feel, so it perfect year round! At $21 this is a DEAL ! (The line I used on my cheek covered the entire bottom portion of my face!) Have you tried this brand?
Black Owned Makeup Look
So I decided to use the products I pictured in my first photo (minus my highlight shade and lipstick) I used the #Ace Beaute - Nostalgia Palette[products]#[FiveStars] for my entire eye look. I definitely enjoyed these products. My only advice is to shake the UOMA BEAUTY - Say What?! Foundation before use (because it can come out watery) but the coverage is absolutely flawless. I was shocked with the consistency the coverage I got. What’s your favorite black owned brands? (I do not own right to the song)
