Dermatologist @dermdoctor Gives A Great Ingredient Breakdown
Aug. 5, 2020
I am a huge fan of Rihanna and I was extremely excited (and honored) to be chosen to review this product in advance. I've only had a chance to use it for a few days, but I'm going to break down some of the ingredients for you all from a dermatologists standpoint and let you know if I think it's worth it! ' The cleanser is my favorite product in the entire starter kit from Fenty Skin. It's very hydrating, initially has a balm-like texture, that then foams after rubbing it into the skin. It has gentle cleansing ingredients that won't be too stripping to the skin. Unfortunately, this product does have fragrance in it, so it's not ideal for sensitive skin. However, fragrances in cleansers are generally safe because they're not in contact with the skin for long enough to cause sensitization. I would recommend this product to my family, friends, and patients! The toner is probably my least favorite part of the starter kit. In general, I don't think toners are necessary to a simple skin care routine unless they add an active ingredient that's beneficial to the skin. I do like that this product has niacinamide in it, which is great for oily skin, acne, and hyperpigmentation. However, witch hazel, which is a large component of this product, is very stripping to the skin and does not have benefits long-term. I would personally avoid this product, especially if you have dry or sensitive skin. I would not recommend this product! I really like that the skincare line has a sunscreen with SPF 30 in it. It blends extremely well with the skin and is very hydrating, while protecting from the sun. It has the texture of a very light moisturizer. It is a chemical sunscreen, however, it does not contain oxybenzone, which is an ingredient that I have been telling my patients to avoid in their sunscreens. Unfortunately, it does have a small concentration of fragrance, limonene, and linalool, which are known to cause allergy and irritation in some people. Overall, I did enjoy using this sunscreen and I think many people will like it too! In summary, there are many aspects of this product that I really like. The packaging is my favorite part of the entire product line. It's very aesthetic and I really like the refillable sunscreen container. However, given the price point and the ingredients list, I think there are better products out there that will be more beneficial at a lower price point!Esthetician @SoSonaSkincare Shares How Each Product Can Help (or Hurt) Your Skin
I want to start off by saying that I love Rihanna and feel honored to be the select few to receive the skincare line before the launch to offer my honest opinion and review. Before getting into the products I have to rave about the packaging. The color is a beautiful matte purple. The cleanser and toner have a twist-top lid so that means no more juggling with tubes and their tops. The sunscreen comes with a refill cartridge that slots right into a pump. #FENTY SKIN - Total Cleans'r Remove-It-All Cleanser[products]#[FourStars] The texture is really rich and creamy and you don’t need a lot of it so a little goes a long way. As soon as some water is mixed with the creamy texture you get an amazing luxurious lather. It contains Barbados Cherry (so appropriate for Rihanna) which is going to help brighten the skin. The cleanser also contains Ginkgo Biloba which helps to control surface oils and clarify skin. The Green Tea and Fig are very rich in antioxidants which help defend against environmental stressors. I love how the cleanser felt on my skin and did not leave it feeling dry and stripped of oils With this being said the cleanser does contain fragrance, dyes, and sulfates. This can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions to sensitive and acne-prone skin types. The scent is also fairly strong and for me too much to handle. If you wanted to pick 1 product to buy it would be this one. #FENTY SKIN - Fat Water Pore-Refining Toner Serum[products]#[TwoStars] So one of the top ingredients is niacinamide which can help neutralize free radicals and help to improve discoloration. It also contains Barbados Cherry so it contains antioxidants to protect your skin. What I didn’t like to see was witch hazel on the ingredient list and as the main ingredient. Witch Hazel can completely strip the skins barrier and with the fragrance and dyes included I do recommend my sensitive skin types to steer clear. #FENTY SKIN - Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen[products]#[ThreeStars] This is the product I was most excited to receive and looking forward to. The fact that Rihanna included sunscreen in her first three products launched makes me very happy. I love the fact that it comes in refillable packaging. I am obsessed with the fact that it is a moisturizer and sunscreen in one so it saves you an entire step. Which that being said it is a chemical sunscreen, but does not contain oxybenzone so I can live with it. It’s an amazing sunscreen especially for people of color because it rubs in beautifully with no white cast. The sunscreen contains niacinamide and hyaluronic acid so it’s very hydrating but again I personally am not a fan of chemical sunscreen. It can be irritating to sensitive skin and make acne worse for acne- prone skin Overall ,Rihanna really tried to create a skincare starter kit for the majority and her focus was to create especially something that worked for people of color. She focused on great ingredients for the skin. The bottom line “ it’s not for me”Skincare Enthusiast @shannon Gives Her First-Hand Experience of Each Product
I was gifted this in PR. As someone with oily, dehydrated acne prone/sensitive skin, I love cleansers that don’t strip my skin, feel great and provide a thorough cleanse with added benefits. This cleanser is claimed to be a total all in one, meant to remove makeup and cleanse the skin. Personally, I didn’t enjoy using it to fully break down my SPF and makeup. I much prefer balm or oil cleansers for that job, purely because oil attracts oil and it nourishes my skin better before a second cleanse while also completely removing all the grime off my face. However, as a second cleanse, it’s amazing. I fully enjoy it for this. It’s creamy and does not strip my skin, but because of the surfactants, I admit it can be a little dry than I am used to. I wish it were more hydrating, but I can see most people loving this, especially if you don’t have dehydrated skin. I should mention it’s also fragranced, which I love. This didn’t irritate my skin. The antioxidants and unique packaging are an added bonus and definitely makes the price worth it.
This was gifted to me in PR. I was most excited for this toner and had very high hopes because of previous reviews I’ve seen and the ingredients sounded amazing. I have oily, dehydrated, sensitive/acne prone skin, and this unfortunately does not suit me. I’ve been using this for three days. The second ingredient is witch hazel- very unusual given the other amazing ingredients this is masking. It claims to brighten, protect and perfect pores with niacinamide, barbados acerola cherry, cactus flower, and green tea - all of which are under witch hazel on the inci list. The witch hazel dehydrates my skin, and I woke up the first night with a flaky nose, which never happens to me, even being on drying acne treatments. In order to use this product, I have to add more hydrating/repairing products into my routine and it’s just not worth it for the upkeep. I’d rather use a hydrating niacinamide serum. Unless you don’t have dry/dehydrated skin, definitely look into this because you may like it more than me!
This was gifted to me in PR. I have oily, dehydrated, sensitive/acne prone skin. This SPF 30 is chemical, reef safe, and refillable, which is absolutely amazing! I was hoping to love this formula, but unfortunately it makes my skin red and irritated, and after a few days of use I decided it wasn’t for me. While I am so happy there is an SPF in this line, it could have been better to suit more people - aka sensitive skin. Chemical SPF filters are already a higher risk for irritation than mineral, and with the high amount of fragrance this has, I believe the two are what caused my skin to be irritated. On the plus side, it’s extremely hydrating, and I think would best suit those with normal/dry skin types that are non reactive. I hope she comes out with a fragrance free, mineral option!

this is a DRAWSTRING ponytail 👀🔥
Drawstring ponytails have come a lonnnnng way! I have to admit, I never thought drawstring ponytails could look good, but bay-bee I was WRONG! I’m loving the #Indique - Remix Organic Curl Ponytail[products]#[FiveStars] First of all, it’s human hair, unlike a lot of ponytail extensions. All of your hair is protected in a little cap, which I love, and it’s versatile! One major note: when you receive this hair it’s not fluffed. I tried to finger comb it, and that wasn’t the best method as I had some shedding and tangling. However, when I sprayed this hair down with water I had NO issues! This hair is dyed, so some of the dye may transfer to your fingers while styling it. All of these styles were created with this ponytail 🙌🏾 It’s the perfect way for me to turn a bad hair day around real quick! I really appreciate seeing quality textured ponytail extensions on the market. Swipe through to see the styles! I even did a braid out on this ponytail 😍 BOMB! What’s your favorite style? CMON MADDIE..... Really ? 😒
okay so i’m sorry for the light this week but i’m working on a work station. However this Morphe Maddie palette isn’t doing it for the me. In my opinion I believe to pull a good palette together is blend ability and good shimmer or glitters. The shimmers on the is so trash 🗑 sorry to say. i literally had to dig for a good creamy shine. However it isn’t a complete miss. The other colors did have some good pigment and my fav shade is the black shade. It was really dark and blendable. I would probably recommend this to someone with more fair skin because they pigments and shimmers would work better in their favor. Have you used this palette if yes tell me all about below, if no would you still wanna try it out and why ?
this isn't a lipstick 👀💋
I did a little video with some of my favorite reds a little while ago, but I feel like NYX - Intense Butter Gloss in Apple Crisp deserves its own post! It's glossy, pigmented, AND affordable... we love to see it! 🙌🏾
My well-loved drugstore makeup essentials
These are the drugstore makeup picks I ACTUALLY use! Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Tarte Shapetape Concealer. Even the latest launches from Rare Beauty have me swooning. But drugstore makeup holds a special place in my heart. Walking through the aisles of Target or CVS gets me giddy. Quite honestly, I count those trips as my therapy sessions. Plus, these are the places were I started getting essentials to experiment with when I was younger! My favorite brands to score from are no doubt Pixi, NYX, Essence Cosmetics, Sonia Kashuk, Maybelline and Covergirl. They’re just my go-to’s! They’re the brands constantly putting out dupes for cult favorites. Everything in this picture, I use on a daily basis. I’ve been going through Maybelline Lifter Glosses like they’re going out of style. I actually was responsible for my local Target running out of stock once...oops. Another new essential that’s crawled its way into my everyday routine is the Covergirl Cooling Glow Stick. It’s part of their new Clean Fresh line and I use it on my WHOLE face. Top tip: try it under your eyes over your concealer 👀 I’m still in search for the perfect drugstore CC cream, does anyone have any good recommendations?
