7 Steps to a Perfect Pro-Style Pedicure Right at Home

Jul. 31, 2020
Going to the salon for a pedicure these days can get pretty pricey. However, leaving the house with ghastly-looking toenails is ill-advised in the summertime. Those cute sandals are meant for showcasing perfectly-polished toes and smooth as silk feet. If going to the salon is out of the question due to time or budget constraints, you can turn your own space into a salon-spa oasis to give yourself the perfect professional pedicure!
It's much easier than you think, and these 7 steps will take you from start to flawless finish!
1. Set the stage
First, you’ll want to find a comfortable space for your home pedicure. You should gather everything you need too so you can settle in without having to get up once you start. A nice glass of wine, some candles, and chill music help to set the mood too. Make this fun, as it should be. In addition to nail polish remover and cotton pads, you’ll need nail clippers, a nail file, a pumice stone, something to soak those tired tootsies in, a dry towel, and your polishes including the base and quick-drying top coat.
2. Get rid of old polish
If you habitually paint over old pedicures, please stop. It’s so much easier to remove old polish if you haven’t layered it over 10 times. Especially if your polish has glitter in it. Make sure every last trace of nail polish is gone so you can start fresh on your pedicure. Any stains can be removed with fresh lemon juice.
3. Give your feet a glorious soaking
Submerge your feet in a foot bath with warm water. You can also sit on the side of your tub if you don’t have a bucket or basin big enough for both feet. But don’t just leave it at that. Use a dedicated foot soak or even plain Epsom salt which will soften your skin and draw out toxins.
4. Buff your feet
After a good soaking of about 10 minutes, you can take to buffing your feet to a soft and smooth appearance. This may take some work but with a pumice stone, you’ll get there. You want to remove the dead, rough skin to soften up the balls and bottoms of your feet.
5. Trim nails and soothe cuticles
Now, turn your attention to your nails and trim them down to the right size. File the rough edges away and shape them. You should also think about your cuticles. While a pro may opt to cut your cuticles, it’s not recommended, especially if you are trying to do it yourself. Cuticles can do with a quick massage of cuticle oil to keep them healthy but refrain from cutting them as they can easily get infected.
6. Add back some moisture
After you’ve trimmed, filed, buffed, and all that good stuff, make sure you put a good moisturizer on your feet. This seals in hydration and keeps that softness from all that buffing intact. Take a moment to sit back and enjoy your wine and music though since you should wait until it soaks in and absorbs so it doesn’t interfere with your polishing steps.
7. Start painting
You’re almost done! You’ll start with a thin base coat and then let it set. Quick-drying options are always the best for a speedier pedicure. Next, you’ll move onto your chosen nail polish. You can roll the bottle in your hand to unify the consistency of the paint within. Add one coat and let it set a minute before following up with a second coat.
Strokes are key here so make sure to swipe up the middle and then one on each side of that for a uniform appearance. After the second coat, wait a minute or two before applying your top coat.
Voila! Your Perfect Home Pedicure is Done!
While there’s no denying a trip to the salon for a pedicure is a wonderful way to treat yourself, it’s not always doable in your budget or when you can’t get an appointment in time before a big event. With these 7 steps though, you’ll have perfectly polished toes that are ready to go whenever you are!

Hi Army!
Hi Army!
Beauty is always evolving. That's why I'm never afraid to switch up and thing or two. When I started my beauty journey, I only wore eyeliner. I was so afraid to try other products because of the stigma that was on "makeup" and how it would make your skin look, etc! But once I realized my passion for Beauty such as makeup, skincare & hair, I asked myself "Why am I listening to everyone else?" and from that day forward, I've been discovering so many great things about my skin, what products are my favorite and what I do & don't like. Finding the perfect products for you can be a mission, but lately It's been a bit easier on my friends & I by using the Cherie beauty app. Not only do I get to explore products that I'd probably walk past in the store, but I get to read reviews and watch people with the same skin & hair type as me express their love or hate for the products! Now instead of listening to people say beauty is bad, I get to be in a community full of people all around the world who share the same passion. It's exactly what I wish I had at the beginning of my journey! Can’t wait to share more with you guys! 💕

I had milia under my eye and this combined with my night routine has cleared it up ! KINSHIP - Self Reflect Probiotic Moisturzing Sunscreen Zinc Oxide SPF 32 This is the ONLY mineral sunscreen I’ve tried that didn’t give me a ghastly white cast. It has a slight tint but it honestly barely noticeable 😭 What in your morning routine ?
Self Care: Skin Roller & Sheet Masks
Self Care: Skin Roller & Sheet Masks
My new year skin-resolution is to use more sheet masks. Sheet masks are the best way to treat yourself to a moment of wellness and to give your skin a boost of hydration along with any treatments. I personally cannot stay still for 10-15 minutes, so my esthetician friends recommended that I use a facial roller with my sheet masks. This will not only keep my hands busy but enhances absorption, drain lymphatic nodes, and sculpt and tone my face. I found this great article from @SkinGym that shows you how to properly use facial rollers: 1. Start by using the larger stone and rolling upward (neck to jawline) 2. Sculpt the Jawline: Roll from chin to ear with upward rolling motion 3. Cheeks: Roll outwards from nose to temple 4. Under eye are: use the smaller stone roll gently outward from inner eye to temple 5. Forehead: use the larger stone roll outward towards the hairline. I repeat each step 2-3 times on each side of the face and repeat until serums in the sheet masks fully sinks into the skin. According to the article to get the best result you should be incorporating rolling into your daily AM and PM routine... but I’m still working on 2-3 times a week. Maybe in a month or so I can work my way up to once daily. Dr. Jart+ - Dermask Water Jet Vital Hydra Solution @cherie gifted this to me and I’ve loving this extra bit soothing hydration. They’re pretty inexpensive, ranging around $6-$9 for 5 masks. They’re formulated with patented aquasil component, hyaluronic acid and seaweed extract to provide intensive hydration. 🚫Dr. Jart+ is not cruelty-free they do test on animals when required and they do sell to mainland China which requires animal testing. #Blush Wellness - Rose Quartz Facial-Roller[products]#[FiveStars] This was gifted to me from Blush Wellness. They’re actually having a sale right now for $10. I usually pop it in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes to get them nice and cold whenever I want to get my “roll-on.”🤪 MICHAEL TODD BEAUTY - Soniclear Elite Antimicrobial Sonic Skin Cleansing System and MICHAEL TODD BEAUTY - Soniclear Replacement Serum Infusion Head I’ve also used the sonic clear serum infusion head and it works wonder as well!
